After finishing the novel, most people including me would appreciate Heathcliff for his pure, simple and untamed love which would never change until death. On the other hand, it is difficult to understand his abnormal, callous and his love for Catherine. Heathcliff was an illiberal and unscrupulous person. He loved Catherine and was willing to give up everything for her. In the north of England where the wind blew hard, the black and dirty child, Heathcliff, fell in love with a little girl, Catherine who gave him love and also misery.Wuthering Heights is an ideal heaven for those misanthropists to escape from the real life. In this beautiful but desolate world, Heathcliff as a stranger appeared. When he was 6 or 7 years old and at the edge of starving, Mr. Earnshaw, the owner of wuthering heights, saved him. Heathcliff’s childhood was unfortunate. Before he came to the wuthering heights, he was almost dead. When he was at Mr. Earnshaw’shome, he was bullied and maltreat by Mr. Earnshaw’s son, Hindley Earnshaw. However, at that moment, Catherine Earnshaw saved him, and everything became different. Compared with Catherine, is Heathcliff more forgivable for his insistence and self-abased?In the end, Catherine died. She was 19, and Heathcliff was 20. However, the story was not end. After Catherine’s death, Heathcliff was not likable. His maniac revenge seemed no endless. He even took vengeance on their children. Is this love? Is this resentment? 关于呼啸山庄的英文读书笔记Many people in the world are trying to find a perfect companion.Some of these may marry and not know what their new husband or wife islike.This kind of situation often leads to separation or hostility.Other situations may develop between two friends that stem from jealousy, desire for revenge, uncaring parents, etc. Emily Bront's Wuthering Heights displays several characteristics of destructive relationships. Three of these are uncaring parents, marriage without knowing the person, and jealousy.Uncaring or unsympathizing parents are shown throughout this storyto be an element of destructive relationships. Because Heathcliff gained all the attention from Mr. Earnshaw, Hindley became disassociated from his father. This separation continued until after Mr. Earnshaw haddied.Another example is between Hindley and Hareton. Hindley became such a drunk and a gambler that he could not properly care for young Hareton. This led to a separation between Hareton and his father as well. One primary example of an uncaring parent is shown between Heathcliff andhis son Linton.Heathcliff did not even want his son for anything except enacting a part of his revenge. This is shown by Linton's fear of Heathcliff and Heathcliff's enmity toward his son. Linton even says "... my father threatened me, and I dread him - I dread him!" to express his feeling about Heathcliff.The hostility and separation between father and son in this book shows that uncaring parents can cause serious damage in relationships with their children.This element of destructive behavior may stem from an unhappy marriage in which the husbands or wives don't know each other. This had happened between Isabella and Heathcliff. Isabella did not really know Heathcliff when she married him, but after she had married him she saw that Heathcliff was not a gentleman at all. To declare her feelings she wrote "Is Heathcliff a man? If so, is he mad? And if not, is he a devil?I shan't tell my reasons for making this inquiry; but I beseech you to explain, if you can, what I have married ...". Another example of thisis when Catherine married Edgar Linton. Although she had been happy at the beginning of the marriage, she thought having parties all the time was going to be fun. Yet, after a while, she became bored. She also realized that she loved Heathcliff more than Edgar and would always love Heathcliff.This enlightenment created separation between Edgar and Catherine during the final hours of Cathy's life. An additional marriage which was made that was doomed was the one between Catherine and Linton.Because this was a forced marriage, Cathy had not yet learned all she could about Linton.Because she did not know until after the marriagethat Linton was selfish and inconsiderate, she became distressed and grew isolated in the house.These three failed marriages described inthis novel show that knowing the person you will marry is very important.While these marriages took place, jealousy also took a hold in some relationships. One example of this is when Mr. Earnshaw starts to favor Heathcliff over his own son, Hindley. Because of this, Hindley becomes jealous of young Heathcliff and sets out to make Heathcliff's life a nightmare. Hindley's jealousy becomes evident when he says ,"... be damned you beggarly interloper! and wheedle my father out of all he has; only afterwards show him what you are, imp of Satan.". Jealousy was also found very notably in the relationship between Heathcliff and Edgar Linton.。

In a series of flashbacks and time shifts.Based on the classic text of Emily Bronte, this incarnation of Wuthering Heights sets up the all-engulfing tragedy beautifully. Since its setting, the windswept Yorkshire moors, is a desolate place at the height of summer, having to fight your way through the teeth of a snowstorm is not for the faint of heart. This is the mistake made by Lockwood (Miles Mander), a temporary resident. Seeking shelter from the blizzard he staggers through the door of Wuthering Heights, finding the atmosphere within just as icy. The master of the house, Heathcliff (Laurence Olivier), reluctantly provides a bed but seems ill at ease with his visitor. Theres a sad tale behind his indifference, one which the elderly housekeeper Nelly Dean (FloraRobson) is happy to share.Forty years ago Wuthering Heights was filled with light, warmth and happiness.(Cecil Kellaway), a congenial gentleman farmer, lives happily with his boisterous children Cathy (Sarita Wooten) and Hindley (Douglas Scott). However, being a kind and generous fellow, he cant help rescuing a poor starving wretch off of the streets of Liverpool, a gypsy child named Heathcliff (Rex Downing). In time Heathcliff becomes one of the family, loved by all except Hindley (who nurtures the feeling of being usurped). Cathy is an especially good childhood friend, spending many a carefree day playing on the moor with Heathcliff. Unfortunately when dies suddenly, Hindley is able to express his enmity with damning cruelty. Heathcliff is condemned to the stable, a position doubly harsh given his former familial state.As the years pass a single reason keeps, the now adult, Heathcliff from leaving and seeking his fortune - Cathy (Merle Oberon). Despite all that oppresses them (Hindleys (Hugh Williams) rages and their positions),there is a love between them that refuses to die. Cathy has wild, gypsy blood in her and that side of her personality loves to run through the heather with her prince, Heathcliff. Here they can be children again, far from the misery which courses through Wuthering Heights. However, the more civilised half of Cathy desires fine dresses and a respectable station in society, all things which Edgar Linton (David Niven) can provide. Such a collision of love and desire is ripe territory for the seeds of tragedy.An epic tale of wild, romantic passion, set amongst the heather and wind-swept gulleys, Wuthering Heights is stirring stuff. Presenting a vision of undying love, its genesis in the innocence of youth and resolution in the chill of death, the entire spectrum of emotions is played expertly by Bronte. Such a tale calls for a top-notch cast, players who can emote the sheer stubbornness which makes Cathy and Heathcliff destroy each other while remaining deeply in love. So staggering is Heathcliffs pain that hes willing to use Cathys sister-in-law Isabella Linton (Geraldine Fitzgerald) as a weapon, caring nothing for the poorlass. Wuthering Heights gives me a cold, withering, and lonely feeling; however, at the end the book the author shows us that the human kindness is not diminished at Wuthering heights, even though the wind can break off a tree that doesn’t mean it can break off the whole forest. Even though hatred destroyed Heathcliff , Catherine, Edgar and Elizabeth’s happiness, that doesn’t mean Cathy and Hareton’s happiness.Actually, there is no such a character I really like in Wuthering Heights, every character seems teemed with agony and animosity, especially Heathcliff. Heathcliff is an orphan before adopt him, and in the novel, itsays that treats Heathcliff even better than his own son, Hindley Earnshaw. It’s quite amazing that in spite of Earnshaw’s nice treatment, Heathcliff has no gratitude at all, he revenged Hindley and Catherine, even their heirs. After reading Heathcliff’story, my feeling is complicated, although he is the avenger who dominate the whole story by using his vengeful machinations, he is also the most pitiful guy in Wuthering Heights; he doesn’t know what is love and don’t know how to love. Heathcliff has lived with the Earnshaws for more than 10 years, but there is no attachment between him and the whole family except Catherine, but even Catherine who was died because of Heathcliff’s tournament. When he is torturing others, he is also giving himself a suffering.Catherine, who is the heroine in the book, is described by Nelly as capricious and selfish. She is just like Heathcliff, doesn’t know how to love at all.Anyways, Wuthering Heights gave me a torment, you can’t see any warm scene in the book, all you see is the fierce wind howled, and wild moor. However, at the end, the combination between Hareton and Cathy seemsa hopeful light in the darkness, and the break of the day finally coming!。
