Unit-6-How-to-write-a-rotten-poem-with-almost-no-e

Unit 6 How to Write a Rotten Poem with Almost No EffortKey to the ExercisesText comprehensionI. Decide which of the following the author is most concerned with.BII. Judge, according to the text, whether the following statements are true or false.1. T (Refer to Paragraph2.)2. F (Refer to Paragraph 2. Good poets and poems are lost forever simply because there is no market for them, or so few people read their poems.)3. T (Refer to Paragraph4.)4. T (Refer to Paragraphs 5?.)5. T (Refer to Paragraphs 11?2.)III. Answer the following questions.1. Refer to Paragraphs 1?. The problem with poetry is that people find it too difficult to write a poem, so they don't even try. And even worse, they have virtually given up reading poems. The author believes that people can be encouraged to write a poem very easily, even if the poem is really rotten.2. Refer to Paragraph3. The idea is to make it easy for everyone to write at least one poem in his life.3. Refer to Paragraphs 5?. That is a rule of thumb and the fashion of today. Unusual nouns and conflicting human senses can create profound images and feelings and a poetic atmosphere.4. Refer to Paragraphs 10?1. When you've written a poem, it will be an accomplishment, so you may feel free to read the works of your fellow poets. You will perhaps find some inspiration from their poems and therefore continue writing your poems and for this purpose keep observing the emotions of yourself and others.5. You can have a try anyway.IV. Explain in your own words the following sentences.1. Good poets have stopped writing poems, because there are fewer and fewer readers and fellow poets. They cannot depend on poetry writing for a living, and there is no more poetic society from which they can draw inspirations and stimulations.2. The point of poetry is to express and record emotions. So when you read poems, you will observe the emotions of the poet and when you write your own poem, you need to observe and organize your own.Structural analysis of the text"Once a person has written a poem, of whatever quality, he will feel comradeship with fellow poets and, hopefully, read their works. Ideally, there would evolve a veritable society of poet-citizens, which would elevate the quality of life worldwide. Not only that, good poets could make a living for a change. (Paragraph 3)"But at least it's a poem and you've written it, which is an accomplishment that relatively few people can claim. (Paragraph 10)"Chances are, you'll find their offerings stimulating and refreshing. You might even try writing some more of your own poems, now that you've broken the ice. Observe othersemotions and experience your own -- that's what poetry is all about. (Paragraph 11) Rhetorical features of the text"The last line of your poem should deal with the future in some way." Unit6Translate the paragraphs into Chinese.

A Passion for Sport

英语笔译实务3级配套训练第六单元英译汉(二)A Passion for SportAustralians have always loved sport, and excelled at it. Even before Federation in 1901, “Australia” was competing internationally as a nation. Despite its relatively small population, Australia has consistently had world champions in most sports. The most recent example of Australia’s sporting prowess is its athletes’ success at the Sydney 2000 Olympic and Paralympic Games. Finishing in fourth place overall in the Olympic competition, Australians won 58 medals. Australia gained first place in the Paralympics, with a total of 149 medals. But it is not just a strong will and a natural aptitude for sport that makes Australian athletes champions in their disciplines. Applying the newest scientific technologies to training can literally mean the difference between winning and losing in competition. The role that science plays in sport is now a major factor in Australia’s sporting success. In addition, Australia’s elite athletes have a large support network of coaches, managers, scientists, doctors, physiotherapists and nutritionists.1 / 4In 2001, an estimated 11.7 million people, or 77.7 per cent of the population aged 15 years and over, participated in at least one physical activity for recreation and sport. Australians also enjoy watching sporting events, with sporting programs the most commonly watched on television (after news and current affairs), by 55 per cent of adults. Going to sports events is also a popular pastime. In 1999, 7 million people, or 47.1 per cent of the Australian population aged 15 years and over, attended sporting matches or competitions. The late, great cricketer Sir Donald Bradman summed it up crisply and well. “Sport,” he said, “is embedded in the fabric of Australian life.” Author Donald Ho rne once made the bleak but accurate judgment that to play games and / or watch them was “to fulfill one’s role as an Australian.”

第六单元体育☆英译汉(一)Real MadridIt just might be the se00iest courtship1 in the history of European football: day after day the sports from Edinburgh to Istanbul are filled with stories about the vast sums Real Madrid, the hottest brand in world football, is offering for David Beckham of Manchester United2. Real Madrid has spent more money than1 any other football club in the world to build what Steve McManaman, a British player for the team, says is “arguably the best side4 of all time”. But it has bled euros to get there -by some estimates as much as €500 million since 2000. Three of Europe’s 10 highest-paid footballers play for Real, earning a total of nearly €20 million a year. In fiscal year 2002, Real spent €117. 2million on salaries -a whopping 77 percent of its total operating revenue. By contrast, Man U, which pays Beckham the highest footballing salary of all €6. 6million. limited wages to 48 percent of turnover. The spending spree has brought two Champions League titles since 2000. Real celebrated its centenary last year, hut as a modem business it reminds a football economist of a recent phenomenon: the dotcom bubble.Rivals tell another story. They argue that Real’s success rests on a foundation of government protectionism. Back in 2000, construction mogul and former Madrid politician Florentino Perez was elected club president by Real’s 80,000 members. He won by promising to lure Portuguese forward Figo from rival Barcelona, and fulfilled his pledge at a cost of almost €62 million before7 chasing after other stars. Zidane arrived from Juventus of Turin for about €75 million, making him the most expensive player in football history. Ronaldo of Brazil arrived for €45 million. By then some Real supporters were waxing nostalgic for the days when football was more sport than business, but the deals were done.◆课文词汇Edinburgh爱丁堡Real Madrid皇家马德里(足球俱乐部) whopping 巨大的Istanbul 伊斯坦布尔Manchester United 曼联mogul显要人物Barcelona巴塞罗纳◆参考译文皇家马德里这很可能是欧洲足球史上最引人瞩目(招摇)的选才方式1:为招募曼联的戴维·贝克汉姆,世界上最火爆的皇家马德里足球俱乐部开出巨额转会费。

Kennedy wasassassinated, I was a 13- years- old freshman attending Mount St. Joseph’s High School, a Catholic school in Baltimore,Maryland. I remembered exactly where I was when I heard the first whispered rumor ---- in the hallway on my way to a sixth period biology class. I recollect just as distinctly what I heard: “Some Cu ban guy worked for Castro shot the President!” It wasn’t long after I heard a new explanation for the P resident’s murder: “It was a Russian agent working for Khrushchev!” None of us knew which was the more shocking or potential dangerous rumor. In the blur of that first horrible day came yet another news report, this one stating that the President had being shot by a former Marine hiding in a book warehouse and using a German Mauser-type rifle. Hours later, the Dallas police took such a man for custody five miles away, in a Dallas movie theater. Two days later, by the end of that paralyzingly sad weekend, the story of JFK’s assassination had turned into 180 degrees: Now, according to most of the reports, the President had been shot in the back on the head by a Castro sympathizer using an Italian rifle.I couldn’t help but∧intrigued. 1. 13-year-old2. remember3. working4. before5. potentially6. been7. into8. /9. of10. beB.1.

Section BIn reading recent newspapers, I have come to find that people in China have become more and more interested in discussing about name cards and invitation letters. This has triggered my reminiscences of the name cards and invitation letters of the French people that I saw when I was residing in Paris. In writing down those random reminiscences, I believe that they might provide some useful information for us to learn from.In Paris, all the wine parties and buffet receptions held on various occasions provide optimum opportunities to make friends with all varieties of people. When encountering a stranger on such an occasion, an Asian would invariably hand over his name card to the newly-met stranger with full reverence, with both of his hands, even before he starts to converse with the stranger. Such an act seems to have become an indispensable formality. By contrast, an average Frenchman seldom takes the initiative to present his name card. Instead, he would simply walk away after an exchange of routine greetings or even some aimless chat. Only when both sides become deeply engrossed in their conversation and have the intention to make further acquaintance with each other would they offer to give their name cards. It would seem somehow bizarre if a French person offers his name card without saying anything to the stranger in the first place.。
