The Great Wall
The Great Wall of China is one of the wonders of the world. It is one of the few man-made objects on earth that can be seen on the moon. All the work was done by hand. Many people were forced to work on the wall. Now, let me introduce more about the Great Wall to you.
The Great Wall is the name of a wall. It first comes from the time of the Qin Dynasty. Shihuangdi of the Qin Dynasty, united China in 221 BC. He wanted to protect China’s northern border. So he ordered his sol diers to build walls along the border. Today, there are few parts of the wall of shihuangdi left. Today’s Great Wall follows a different route. It comes from the time of the Ming Dynasty. People from the north part of China took some parts of the country. The Ming wanted to keep them out. So , at the end of the 15th century, they began to build walls along the northern border. The Ming walls run about 1,500 miles from Qinghuangdao in the east to Jiayuguan in the west. The walls followed the shape of the lan d and so it goes up and down a lot. It’s hard work for walking. On the top of the wall there was space for soldiers to march and there were watchtowers.
Now the Great Wall has become a place of interest. We all know the famous Chinese saying: “He who does not reach the Great Wall is not a true man.”
