That’s what mak es America great.I am hopeful tonight because I have seen that spirit at work in America. I’ve seen it in the family business whose owners would rather cut their own pay than lay off their neighbors, and in the workers who would rather cut back their hours than see a friend lose a job.I’ve seen it in the soldiers who re-enlist after losing a limb, and in those SEALS who charged up the stairs into darkness and danger because they knew their was a buddy behind them watching their back.I’ve seen it on the s hores of New Jersey and New York where leaders from every party and level of government have swept aside their differences to help a community rebuild from the wreckage of a terrible storm.And I saw it just the other day, in Mentor, Ohio where a father told the story of his eight-year-old daughter who’s long battle with leukemia nearly cost their family everything had it not been for health care reform passing just a few months before. The insurance company was about to stop paying for her careI had an opportunity to not just talk to the father but meet this incredible daughter of his, and when he spoke to the crowd listening to that father’ story, every parent in that room had tears in their eyes because we knew that little girl could be our own. And Ikn ow that every American wants her future to be just as bright. That’s who we are. That’s the country I’m so proud to lead as your president.And tonight, despite all the hardship we’ve been through, despite all the frustration s of Washington, I’ve never be en more hopeful about our futureI’ve never been more hopeful about America. And I ask you to sustain that hope.I’m not talking about blind optimism. The kind of hope that just ignores the enormity of the tasks ahead or the road blocks that stand in our p ath. I’m not talking about the wishful idealism that allows us to just sit on the sidelines or shirk from a fight.I have always believed that hope is that stubborn thing inside of us that insists, despite all the evidence to the contrary, that something better awaits us so long as we have the courage to keep reaching to keep working, to keep fighting.America, I believe we can build on the progress we made and continue to fight for new jobs and new opportunity and new security for the middle classI believ e we can keep the promise of our founder. The idea that if you’re willing to work hard, it doesn’t matter who you are or where you come from or what you look like or where you love, it doesn’t matter if you’re black or whi te or Hispanic or Asian, or native American, or young or old,or rich or poor, able, disabled, gay or straight, you can make it.I believe we can seize this future together. Because we are not as divided as our politics suggest. We’re not as cynical as th e pundits believe. Barack Obama's Victory Speech： Change Has Come To America If there is anyone out there who still doubts that America is a place where all things are possible， who still wonders if the dream of our founders is alive in our time， who still questions the power of our democracy， tonight is your answer.
It's the answer told by lines that stretched around schools and churches in numbers this nation has never seen， by people who waited three hours and four hours， many for the first time in their lives， because they believed that this time must be different， that their voices could be that difference.
It's the answer spoken by young and old， rich and poor，Democrat and Republican， black， white， Hispanic， Asian，Native American， gay， straight， disabled and not disabled. I want to thank my partner in this journey， a man who campaigned from his heart， and spoke for the men and women he grew up with on the streets of Scranton and rode with on the train home to Delaware， the vice president-elect of the United States， Joe Biden.
And I would not be standing here tonight without the unyielding support of my best friend for the last 16 years the rock of our family， the love of my life， the nation's next
first lady Michelle Obama.
Sasha and Malia I love you both more than you can imagine. And you have earned the new puppy that's coming with us to the new White House.
And while she's no longer with us， I know my grandmother's watching， along with the family that made me who I am. I miss them tonight. I know that my debt to them is beyond measure.
To my sister Maya， my sister Alma， all my other brothers and sisters， thank you so much for all the support that you've given me. I am grateful to them.
