• 9.1 Concept of English News Feature • 特写（feature）是一个比较广义的名词，所包括的范围很
广，凡不属于硬新闻（hard news）这一范围的稿件都可 称为特写。在英文报纸上，特写包括的范围极广，体裁也 多种多样，它可以囊括新闻消息以外的一切报道。特写最 初是电影艺术领域中的一个术语，产生于西方，如今已成 为一种成熟的新闻文体，与纯新闻报道和评论共同构成新 闻的三大支柱。美国的丹尼尔·威廉森（Daniel Williamson） 教授对特写作了定义：“特写是一种带有创作性的，有时 也带有主观性的文章，旨在给读者以精神享受，并使他们 对某件事、某种情况或对生活中的某个侧面有所了解。”
• 美国新闻学教授詹姆斯·阿伦森（James Aronson）在他所
著的《新闻采访和写作》一书中也指出：“特写，通常指
报刊上篇幅较长的某类稿件，这类稿件没有正规的新闻导
语，写的是有关某人、某机构的一桩新闻事件，或某一政 治事件、社会事件。”（转引自梁洪浩、伍于诚，1993： 88）特写突出表现新闻诸要素中的某一个要素或几个要素， 对这一个或几个要素做详细、深入、透彻的描述。可见，
• 其次，特写与消息的写作手法、写作范围和结构等方面也
不相同。特写比消息讲究些，语言一般不会平铺直叙，而 是尽量显得生动、活泼、优美，以引起读者的兴趣。特写 的写作范围可以是有新闻价值的，也可以是无新闻价值的。 特写记者常常有足够的时间细致观察，深入调查，细细琢 磨，精心构思。无疑，写特写比写消息有更多自由发挥的 余地，别出心裁的空间。此外，特写较少受到版面的限制， 可长可短。短的几段，长的一二十页。为了保持读者的兴 趣，使之一口气读完，特写往往在结构上下功夫，既要含 而不露，又要一步步将读者引向阅读高潮，因此特写的结 构灵活多样。而消息最重要的一个特征是赶时效，消息报 道的往往是飞机失事、枪战、暴力、洪水等硬新闻。即使 再重要、再轰动的消息一旦过时就无人问津。

Feature news Most newspapers, while devoting the
major part of their space to recent events in the form of spot news, usually mange to find room on the inside pages for articles (reports) which concentrates on some single interesting topic. The English term for these articles or stories is “FEATURE STORIES”.

准角度，深入细致地表现新闻事实或人生百态，因此常常是叙述与描 写并重。特写带有一定的主观性，它的写作目的是通过对事实、人物 等的描写唤起读者的同情、激情、快乐、悲伤等感情，所以语言必须 十分形象生动。又因不少特写的篇幅较长，如何引发乃至保持读者的 兴趣都是特写记者十分关心的问题。因而，特写的语言除了要准确、 精炼外，还必须在语言修辞上比消息更胜一筹。特写的语言精雕细琢、 含而不露、蕴味无穷、精彩纷呈。无怪乎不少优秀的特写往往成为不 朽的佳作。消息的目的在于以客观的态度将完整准确的新闻事实传递 给读者。换句话说，消息的目的在于交流最新信息，至于文中是非曲 直则留给读者自己评说。因此，消息的语言以准确、客观为第一。再 者，消息特别是头版消息严格地受到版面的限制，记者必须以最少的 篇幅包容最大量的信息，所谓消息“求全不求细”就是这个道理。
凡是不属于硬新闻的新闻性稿件都可以称为特写。从广义
上说，新闻分析、人物访问、通讯、知识小品、趣闻以及 其他富有人情味的稿件，都可纳入特写的范围。
• 新闻特写主要表现新闻事实中的最具有表现力、最具特色
的片断。特写讲究文笔，强调写作手法的运用，以进行生 动刻画，渲染感觉效果，旨在更立体、更突出地表现新闻 主题。特写在新闻类文章中，很接近于文学作品，所以语 言表达上颇具文学性，也可以说，新闻特写是一种由报纸、 广播等宣传媒介手段所表现的文学作品。或者说它是以新 闻传播为表现形式的文学作品，但它不同于一般文学作品 的是，它不可以是虚构的，而必须是真实的。只是在语言 特点、情节安排、修辞手法的运用等方面，都与文学作品 相同（吕俊、侯向群，2001：201）。例如，20世纪60年 代《人民日报》关于焦裕禄同志的事迹报道、作家徐迟介 绍陈景润“哥德巴赫猜想”等文章均属于新闻特写。
9．2 新闻特写与新闻消息的区别
• 特写与消息（news）的区别主要是报道的目的不同。新
闻特写与新闻消息的主要差别在于前者的目的不是报道新 闻事件，而是从新闻事态发展的某一个角度，讲述广大读 者关心的种种情况和问题，向读者提供与新闻有关的东西。 特写的特点是有深度（in-depth）、有趣味（interest）、 有观点（point）和有风格（style），特写不像消息那样要 面面俱到交代各个新闻事实，而往往是针对新闻事实中最 富有特征和表现力的片断去挖掘素材，进行综合、思辩和 分析。新闻消息注重事实报道的全面性和完整性，而特写 是新闻消息的继续，也是一种更新，往往比消息更翔实、 更有深度和广度。特写形式多样，题材不限，篇幅随意， 从内容到形式都比较复杂，大致可分为事件特写和人物特 写两大类。特写作为软新闻（soft news）也可以与新闻无 关，但必须是读者感兴趣的东西。所以部分专栏、人物专 访、通讯、知识小品、趣闻等都可以称为特写。
