AI clearly remember my mom telling me to drink milk every day—one glass in the morning and another at night.I also remember loving it while my sister thought quite the opposite—she would surreptitiously pour her milk into the sink or water the plants with it! I guess I should thank my mom for making us drink a lot of milk, so rich in calcium(钙), during those important years.Today, calcium shortage is one of the main concerns of women in their 30s or even early 20s.The great fear is that when we reach our 50s or 60s, osteoprosis(骨质疏松症)will set in.That is why you can see a lot of advertisements for products supposedly containing a lot of calcium.Because calcium is not that easy to acquire from the food we normally eat, busy women these days should take calcium supplements(补充物).There are a lot of different forms of these---calcium carbonate(碳酸钙),oyster(牡蛎)shell or bone-meal-based calcium supplements. You have to be careful when choosing which kind to take. This is because calcium is not easily absorbed by the body.So the fact that you are taking supplements doesn’t mean that the body is actually benefiting from them.Different supplements may have different instructions on dosage(剂量)and manner of intake. You can ask your doctor to help you determine which supplement is the best for your needs.21. From what the author’s mother did we may inferthat___________________.A.her children had osteoporosisB.she knew her children would benefit from milkC.she must have suffered from osteoprosisD.she didn’t like her daughter who didn’t obey her order22. Based on the passage, which of the following is NOT true?A.The author’s sister will suffer from osteoprosis when reaches her 50s or 60sB.Many businessmen have already been selling products supposedly containing calcium.C.We can’t get enough calcium only from food we eat every day D.Women as young as their 20s should be concerned about calcium shortage23. What does the underlined word “surreptitiously”in the firstparagraph probably mean?A.Honestly B.Frankly C.Secretly D.Curiously24. We may infer from the last paragraphthat____________________.A.what one chooses as a calcium supplement might not workB.one shouldn’t take in calcium without the permission of a doctor C.the more calcium supplements one uses, the more calcium one can take inD.it is dangerous to use calcium supplements without the guidanceBPeople living in the UK take quite a few holidays abroad and in the country each year. Choices made about where to go, how to get there and what to do can either benefit or harm the environment. While on holidayMany of the things you can do to the greener on holiday will be the same things you can do at home—but there are also some extra things too, like avoiding gifts made from endangered plants and animals. Here are some suggestions:●Making the most of locally produced fo od and drink, and local activities and attractions will support people in the area you arevisiting and reduce the need for further environmental influence from transport.●Switching off any air conditioning, heating and lights will help reduce climate change effect.●Save water—some countries suffer from water shortages and saving water can help avoid damage to our natural habitats. Endangered speciesSome gifts and foods available in some countries can be made from endangered plants or animals. Check before you buy, but if you doubt, avoid animal and plant gifts. More details of the types of products to avoid any illegal trade hotspots can be found on the Souvenir Alert webpage.Making a positive contribution to the place you are visiting. There are ways in which your holiday can help support local people and the environment.●There are many opportunities to volunteer and help with projects that conserve and improve natural habitats.●When you are away, or if you are looking for somewhere tovisit, you can support projects or attractions which protect wildlife, such as nature reserves and conservation projects.25. According to the passage, we can _______ to help reduce climate change effect.A. make good use of waterB. buy local food and drinkC. save electricityD. go around on foot26. We should check the gifts and foods before buying because______.A. sometimes they are of poor qualityB. they may not be typical local productsC. some of them will do harm to our healthD. they may be made from endangered animals or plants27We can infer from the passage that ______.A. it is not easy for people to travel abroadB. not everyone can tell an illegal souvenirC. green holidays have been accepted by peopleD. volunteer work is a must for protecting natural habitats28. The passage is mainly about ______.A. travel enjoymentB. the harm to the environmentC. protection of endangered animalsD. greener choices for holidayCIt’s said that professional footballers in the USA can make millions of dollars throughout their careers. Yet statistics show that many eventually run out of money once their playing days are over. The University of Pennsylvania wants to change that andhelpteach American footballers how to rebuild their lives when their sports careers come to an end.“All their life they have focused on football. Deciding what comes next can be difficult.”Says professor Morvarid Taheripour, the head of the athletes’project. “Some people say athletes die two deaths. You kind of die when you stop playing and you die in real life. So they’ve got to come back to life and figure out ‘How am I going to make a living at 25 for maybe another 40 years?”For Taheripour, the partnership with professional athletes is a dream to come true. “It was taking everythin g I love about teaching and yet being able to influence people who are accomplished and hard-working, yet very modest.”But even with help, figuring out the next chapter isn’t easy. Statistics show that 78 percent of professional football players are penniless, divorced or unemployed two years after retiring from their sport. The program tries to help players develop a plan for life after sport and 220 athletes have taken part over the past six years. Darwin Walker is one former student who avoided being a statistic. Today, he runs a number of successful businesses and thanks football for his accomplishments. “The concepts I learned about leadership have all come from playing the game of football,”says Walker. “The amount of study, amount of commitment, and timethat you have to put into it is very much like being a successful business person.”Shifting the skills learned on the field to the workplace seems natural to some, but the numbers show that’s not the case for everyone. Taheripour’s message to his stu dents is a serious one:This is the time to build for the future, he tells them, because no matter how long your athletic career lasts, you are so much more than just an athlete.29 By saying “athletes die two deaths”, the author means ________.A. athletes suffer too many failures in their lifeB. athletes have a sports life and a real lifeC. being an athlete contributes little to lifeD. athletes’later life can be easily rebuilt30. .Why is it difficult for professional athletes to decide what comes next?A. They might have not thought of this during their playing days.B. They have no idea whether to leave the game or not.C. They think as athletes they can make more money.D. They’re not willing to accept a new career.31. What does Darwin Walker manage to avoid?A. Making his sports career come to an end.B. Being unsuccessful in rebuilding his life.C. Going through the problem.D. Making a difference.32. What does the last paragraph imply?A. An athlete should think about more than his athletic career.B. An athlete’s sports career couldn’t last very long.C. An athlete should end his career earlier to build his new life.D. The longer an athlete’s career lasts, the more respect he receives.DDuring World War I, a German spy called Reginald Rowlandworked in the United Kingdom gathering information for Germany about the British army. 高二下学期英语期末试卷(考试时间120分钟,满分150分)一.阅读理解(共两节,满分60分,每小题3分)第一节(共15小题,满分45分)AMistakes are a part of life. To err is human. Failure is also a part of life, not the end of life. Be happy facing life’s ch allenges. When you make the effort to be happy and to improve your life, you are actually rewarded along the way.Life is like a game and maybe you can award(奖励) points for every effort that has been a success for you. Try it. Add ten points for every achievement. And when you have reached 50 points, just y ell, “ Hey, I’ve won!” and give yourself a reward. If you happen to ha ve missed your points for whatever reason, tell yourself, “Well, I tried!” which is better than not trying at all. Don’t let it be said you didn’t try. What is it that you want to make yourself happy? Actually happiness means different things to different people. For example, an athlete will be happy winning his first race. For a new mother happiness would be seeing her baby’s first steps. Happiness for a poor person would mean having a meal just for today. So happiness for you is really something simple that you want for yourself. It really doesn’t have to be big. As a matter of fact you should always have realistic expectations. Make the best out of every given situation. If you expect a certain result from a situation and it does not happen, don’t get despondent. This just means trying harder next time. We all have in us the power to succeed. Don’t let “ give up ” be a part of your vocabulary.1.By saying “To err is human”, the a uthor means that________.A. human beings should try to avoid(避免) making mistakesB. no one is perfect(完美的) and everyone makes mistakesC. mistakes and failures make up our lifeD. human beings make mistakes easily2. What’s the main idea of Parag raph 2?A. Try to reach 50 points.B. Never stop trying in your life.C. Award yourself for your successD. Don’t be afraid of missing your points.3. The author proves his idea in Paragraph 3 through_________.A. examplesB. numbersC. experimentsD. stories4. The underlined word “ despondent ” in the last paragraph means________.A. frightenedB. disappointedC. surprisedD. excitedBI am a writer. I spend a great deal of my time thinking about the power of language—the way it can evoke (唤起) an emotion, a visual image, a complex idea, or a simple nguage is the tool of my t rade. And I use them all—all the Englishes I grew up with.Born into a Chinese family that had recently arrived in California, I’ve b een giving more thought to the kind of English my mother speaks. Like others, I have described it to people as “broken” English. But I feel embarrassed to say that. It has always bothered me that I can think of no way to describe it other than“broken”, as if it were damaged and needed to be fixed, as if it lacked a certain wholeness. I’ve heard other terms used, “limited English,” for example. But they seem just as bad, as if everything is limited, including people’s perceptions(认识)of the limited English speaker.I know this for a fact, because when I was growing up, my mother’s “limited” English limited my perception of her. I was ashamed of her English. I believed that her English reflected the quality of what she had to say. That is, because she expressed them imperfectly her thoughts were imperfect. And I had plenty of evidence to support me: the fact that people in department stores, at banks, and at restaurants did not take her seriously, did not give her good service, pretended not to understand her, or even acted as if they did not hear her.I started writing fiction in 1985. And for reasons I won’t get into today, I beganto write stories using all the Englishes I grew up with: the English she used with me, which for lack of a better term might be described as “broken” ; and what I imagine to be her translation of her Chinese, her internal (内在的) language, and for that I sought to preserve the essence, but neither an English nor a Chinese structure. I wanted to catch what language ability tests can never show: her intention, her feelings, the rhythms of her speech and the nature of her thoughts.5. The author used to think of her mother’s English as.A. impoliteB. amusingC. imperfectD. practical6. Which of the following is TRUE according to Paragraph 3?A. Americans do not understand broken English.B. The author’s mother was not respected sometimes.C. The author’s mother had positive influence on her.D. Broken English always reflects imperfect thoughts.7. The author gradually realizes her mother’s English is.A. well structuredB. in the old styleC. easy to translateD. rich in meaning8. What is the passage mainly about?A. The change of the author’s attitude to her mother’s English.B. The limitation of the author’s perception of her mother.C. The author’s misunderstanding of “limited” English.D. The author’s experiences of using broken English.CThe Amazing Kids! Coal-consumption caps will also be tried out in some areas, according to the plan.“The pla n is aimed at dealing with regional air pollution—such as acid rain and smog—which have become increasingly obvious in China in recent years and caused a severe threat to people’s health,” Zhang Lijun, vice-minister of environmentalprotection, said in an interview on Monday.“The air quality in a city affects the regions nearby because pollutants (污染物) Can travel through the atmosphere,” said Chai Fahe, vice-director of Chinese Research Academy of Environmental Sciences.“So efforts to reduce air pollu tion in a single city, targeting a certain pollutant will not be enough,” Chai said.Zhang said, “The country’s m ajor industrial districts—the Yangtze River Delta, Pearl River Delta and the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei region—have recorded more than 100 misty days annually in recent years.”These three regions, home to at least 200 million people, occupy only 6. 3 percent of the country’s area but consume 40 percent of the country’s coal and produce half of its steel, according to official figures.Studies also show that the visibility (能见度) in eastern regions of China has dropped by 7 to 15 km compared to that in the early 1960s, as a result of air pollution. Liaoning province, the Shandong Peninsula, Wuhan in Hubei province and its surrounding area, the Changsha-Zhuzhou-Xiangtan region in Hunan province, the Chengdu-Chongqing region, and the western coast of the Taiwan Straits are also listed as areas to carry out such regional air pollution control programs, according to the plan. The new plan also requires an improved air quality system, which will measure the pollution levels. “The current system, which only measures some major pollutants, cannot reflect the true picture.” said Chai.12. 高二下学期期末考试(英语)(考试总分:120 分)一、阅读理解(本题共计4小题,总分30分)1.(6分)I love charity shops and so do lots of other people in Britain because you find quite a few of them on every high street. The charity shop is a British institution, selling everything from clothes to electric goods, all at very good prices. You can get things you won’t find in the shops anymore. The thing I like best about them is that your money is going to a good cause and not into the pockets of profit-driven companies, and you are not damaging the planet, but finding a new home for unwanted goods. The first charity shop was opened in 1947 by Oxfam. The famous charity’s appeal to aid postwar Greece had been so successful it had been flooded with donations. They decided to set up a shop to sell some of these donations to raise money for that appeal. Now there are over 7,000 charity shops in the UK. My favorite charity shop in my hometown is the Red Cross shop, where I always find children’s books, all 10 or 20 pence each. Most of the people working in the charity shops are volunteers, although there is often a manager who gets paid. Over 90% of the goods in the charity shops are donated by the public. Every morning you see bags of unwanted items outside the front of shops, although they don’t encourage this, rather ask people to bring things in when the shop is open. The shops have very low running costs: all profits go to charity work. Charity shops raise more than £110 million a year, funding medical research, overseas aid, supporting sick and poor children, homeless and disabled people, and much more. What better place to spend your money? You get something special for a very good price and a good moral sense. You provide funds to a good cause and tread lightly on the environment.21. The first charity shop in the UK was set up to _______.A. sell cheap productsB. deal with unwanted thingsC. help a foreign countryD. raise money for patients22. Which of the following is TRUE about charity shops?A. The staff are usually well paid.B. The operating costs are very low.C. 90% of the donations are second-hand.D. They are open twenty-four hours a day.23. Which of the following may be the best title for the passage?A. what to Buy at Charity Shops.B. Charity Shop: Its Origin & Development.C. The Public’s Concern about Charity Shops.D. Charity Shop: where You Buy to Donate.2.(8分)BWith all the wars, fighting and sadness in the world today, it’s not only necessary, but also essential to have a good sense of humor just to help us get through each and every day of our lives. Putting a smile on someone’s face when you know they are feeling down in the dumps, as the saying goes, makes me feel good and warms my heart. How would you feel if you could not joke around with your wife, husband, child, co-worker, neighbor, close friend, or even just someone that you are standing in line with at your corner store?I am always saying things that make others smile or laugh, even if I don’t know the person I’m joking around with. My Grandma always found humor in everything she did, even if it was the hardest job anyone could imagine. This not only relieves stress in any situation, but also is common courtesy to speak to others that are around you.I know of a few people that don’t have a funny bone in their bodies, as they say. Everyone around them could be rolling on the floor after hearing a great joke and they would sit there without the slightest smile on their face. They don’t get the joke that makes others laugh. I am busting a gut while they just sit there, looking at me as if I were from outer space. How can people not get a really funny joke?Laughing is essential to keep your stress levels under control. Without humor we would find ourselves with a lot of psychological problems, or on a lot of medications to keep us from going crazy. There is too much sadness in this present world. It drives people crazy. We all need to find a way to bypass the sadness and bring a little light into our lives. So, I believe our best medicine is to get together and tell some jokes and have some fun laughing together.24. According to the author, humor is useful in the aspect that _______.A. it can pick up people’s spiritsB. it makes people more confidentC. it can help get rid of the cruelty in the worldD. it can help people get on well with others25. From the second paragraph we can guess what kind of person the author’s grandma is _______.A. She is funnyB. She is humorousC. She is curiousD. She is serious26. The phrase “busting a gut” in the third paragraph can be replaced by ________.A. explaining carefullyB. laughing hardC. speaking loudD. keeping silent27. In writing the passage, the author mainly intends to ________.A. talk about his own understanding of humorB. introduce a practical way to get through daily lifeC. convince people of the power of being optimistic about lifeD. encourage people to be humorous in daily life3.(8分)Keeping a busy social life among lots of friends may keep people thinner than spending hours doing some exercises, according to scientists. They say that socializing and meeting with friends help increase levels of brown fat in the body which bums calories to produce heat.Living in an exciting social environment was found to reduce fat in mice’s belly by half over four weeks, even if they ate more. US researchers say that social excitement aids weight loss by turning white fat into brown. White fat stores calories and makes us fatter, while brown burns energy to produce heat. Turning white fat into brown is extremely difficult, normally requiring long – term stay in cold conditions or exciting part of the body’s nervous system. However, scientists from Ohio State University now think that having a busy social life is an even more effective way of changing white fat into brown. The team came up with their theory by studying the effects of various living environments on mice. Those, who lived alongside a greater number of mice, had more space and toys to excite themselves and then lost far more weight over the course of the study than their “couch potato” fellows.Study author, Dr Matthew During, whose team’s findings appear in the journal Cell Metabolism, said, “I’m still amazed at the degree of fat loss that occurs. ”explaining how new technology had threatened face-to-face socializing, he added, “It’s not just a sedentarylifestyle and high calorie foods, but an increasing lack of social activities.” Co-author Dr Lei Cao said, “Loneliness is a potential factor for cancer and death; it’s equal to cigarette smoking to a certain extent. Social activities are very vital.”28. What information can we get from the first two paragraphs?A. Brown fat stores calories and makes us fatter.B. Brown fat can burn energy to produce heat.C. This is the kind of things that means a lot to you when you are feeling like a strange person in a country that you have never been, as it was in my case.In the classes, I don’t know if I’m a lucky person, but the teachers that I have had, in my opinion, are excellent, very professional in their jobs, and they just seem to enjoy teaching, andmake the lessons useful and classes amusing.Another fact that I’ve really enjoyed is that the school is not only aimed at the English language knowledge. You can also find every kind of activity intended to entertain the students in their free time, with things like going to museums and galleries, visiting special places in the city or going to the very famous pub night to have a few beers with your friends. So here you have the opportunity to enjoy the stay in London, to meet new friends, and also to learn everything about the city and the British culture.Personally, there are some facts that have not been easy for me since I arrived, like being so far away from my family, the differences between English food and the food I used to eat, and the high prices for everything. However, I am impressed about a very developed and multicultural city, with people aware of the sense of living in community, with a public transport amazingly thorough, with outstanding tourist places, with opportunities for work and with food from every part of the world that you can imagine.I’ve experienced something priceless with my friends in London. Every time I made contact with my friends from another country, I learn about their culture. I was lucky to have such good friends. I think that time was a present for me.32. What is the passage mainly about?A. The author’s learning experience in London.B. The friends the author made while in London.C. The author’s progress in learning English.D. To keep people away from smart phones.AGive your eyes a break from that screen.Let’s face it—you’re attached to your phone. You use it to communicate, play games and surf the internet. But there’s a great way to make your smart phone a life-enriching device without hurting your eyes. Check out the world of podcasts.Think of podcasts as your YouTube channels for listeners that you can download to your phone. What’s so exciting about that? Well, you can find a lot of amazing shows! Whatever you find that catches your attention, one thing is sure—listening inspires imagination. Because you can only listen to a show and not see it, you have to pay more attention. Therefore, your imagination has the potential to become stronger and more vivid as a result!Podcasts allow you to experience the world from various angles. Take America’s NPR and Britain’s BBC for example. Both have produced several podcasts. By listening to them, you can learn to appreciate cultural or linguistic distinctio ns. Choose what you like. In the end, it’s your device—you get to decide who influences you!So what’s out there? Lots! Since podcasts are created for very specific audiences, you’re sure to find one that interests you. Podcasts have been around for more than a decade, and one that really put podcasting in the spotlight is called Serial. I t’s in the form of a story, broken up over several weeks, complete with cliffhangers. Or maybe you like listening to people discuss interesting topics. My personal favorite is White Horse Inn. If you’re a fan of informative speeches, subscribe to one of the many TED Talks podcasts. There are several language-learning podcasts too, like ESLPod. The list goes on. If you’re not sure where to start, look up “top podcasts” and give one of their recommendations a try.Whether you’re riding a bus, exercising, or just relaxing, pop on some headphones and put your listening skills to the test. Download a podcast App, subscribe to a few and get listening. Or, better yet, if you have an idea for a podcast, why not produce one yourself?5. What is the author’s attitude towards the “Green Trend”?A. Negative.B. Doubtful.C. Unclear.D. Objective.BThe Green InvasionGreen fashions, green brands, green makeup, green lifestyles. “Going green” has taken our weak planet by storm, changing the everyday lives of its citizens. Stores and companies are starting to produce greener, more natural merchandise, but has “going green” become more than just a concern? Has “going green” become a trend among corporations, therefore a fashion for consumers? Not long ago, U.S. corporations were ignoring the idea of environmentally conscious products and processes. As the green phenomenon came into the picture, however, companies have done a 180with their sales strategies. Apple Inc. launched “A Greener Apple”campaign and pledged to remove harmful chemicals from its new computer products. Home Depot Inc. announced an Eco-Options stamp for more than 2,500 environmentally friendly products in its stores. And Kohl’s Corp. said it plans to convert (转换) most of its California stores to solar power. These changes, along with being good for our environment, are intended to step up sales. Consumers like to see companies make an effort to help the environment, and by buying those products they feel as if they have contributed to the cause as well.Although everything seems to be changing its color to green, there is not likely to be another hippie era(嬉皮士时代). This conversion to environmentalism is more gradual and technology-based. Many people really care, even to the extreme, but not everyone cares quite as much as they pretend to. Teenage girls may buy a shirt that says “Hug a Tree.” Do they want to broadcast its message or did they just like the cute squirrel on it? A mother may go to the grocery store and instead of picking the packaged produce, choose the organic greens. Does she know the health benefits or did she choose them because she saw another mom put them in her cart? Some consumers care. Others just follow the lead.Al Gore is the head who helped encourage the green movement. He emphasizes, “We are invading ourselves and attacking the ecological system of which we are a part. As a result, we now face the prospect of a kind of global civil war between those who refuse to consider the consequences of civilization’s relentless(无休止的) advance and those who refuse to be silent partners in the destruction.” Reading t hose words, wheels started clicking into place in the minds of millions who want to ensure that Gore’s predictions will never become reality.Green—the word is everywhere. Trend or not, it still makes a difference. The girl in the “Hug a Tree” shirt has contributed to a cause that may save a tree she would never consider actually hugging. The mom cooking with organic veggies instead of processed goods made that night’s dinner healthier for her family and the environment. “Going green”may be a trend, but th at doesn’t mean it’s not helping. This trend will hopefully become a dedicated movement to help save our home, Planet Earth.第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,共10分)根据短文内容,从短文后的七个选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。
