In 1985, two days before he died, he gave that ticket to Cave —ticket number 00001. “It created a fascination (酷爱) with the bridge that I have to this day,〞says Cave. And it started him on a long journey towards another HarbourBridge first.Cave came up with a simple but daring idea — lease (租用) the bridge from the government and allow ordinary people to climb Australia’s greatest icon. “I thought it would take two years,〞says Cave, 63. “What appea red like a simple job turned into some very complex activities. But inbusiness, you just have to keep going —it’s about having self-belief.〞Indeed, it took him nine years and ten months to convince the NSW government to allow his dream to be a reality. “Six years were wasted dealing with some very restrictive officials,〞says Cave. They threw difficulty after difficulty in his path with doubts over the safety of the climbers and the motorists below — the list went on and on.Through it all, Cave held the ticket tightly. It was a constant reminder of why, to Cave, this fight was worth winning. Finally, in 1995, came the breakthrough (突破) he’d worked for — a letter arrived from WorkCover, the state’s occupational health and safety insurer, backing his idea.Since opening on October 1, 1998, over 1.8 million people have climbed the 1,439 steps to the top of the bridge, making BridgeClimb a $50-million-a-year success and a major international tourist attraction.8. What was the restrictive officials’ attitude towards Cave’s idea?A. Cautious.B. Approving.C. Doubtful.D. Enthusiastic.10. What inspired Cave to fight for his dream during the hard situation?A. WorkCover.B. HarbourBridge.C. BridgeClimb.D. Ticket 00001.11. The text mainly tells us that .A. not every dream in our life is very easy to come trueB. you should have self-belief even faced with great difficultyC. family members always give you the inspiration for successD. life seems a long journey towards another HarbourBridge firstDA habitat is a natural area where wildlife lives undisturbed. Most animals and plants have become endangered not because they have been killed on purpose but because their habitats are being destroyed.Human activities have changed or destroyed habitats for thousands of years. The natural habitats in almost every country in the world have been affected in some way. Let us take Britain as an example. Nowadays most of the British countryside consists of fields of grass grown for cattle and sheep or crops for humans. If you had lived about a thousand years ago, the countryside would have looked very different for most of Britain was covered with forest. Now there are only small areas of woodland across the country, one of the largest areas being the New Forest in Hampshire. Throughout the centuries humans have steadily (持续地) cut down the trees to make room for the human population which has increased greatly particularly during the past 200 years or so. The trees have been replaced by houses, factories, schools, roads, farmland etc. Hedgerows (灌木篱笆) which were planted by humans as boundaries (界限) around fields have replaced woodlands. As you may imagine, the great loss of habitats has affected the wildlife that lives in them. Large animals such as the Brown Bear and the Auroch became extinct in Britain during the 10th century mainly due to destruction (破坏) of their forest habitats. Other British species of animals and plants have become extinct during the last few hundred years and many more are endangered today. Although many organizations are working to protect wildlife, natural habitats are still being destroyed.12. The text mainly tells us .A. what a habitat isB. how to protect wildlifeC. habitat destruction makes animals endangeredD. how to prevent the environment from being destroyed13. According to the text, animals are endangered mainly because .A. people kill wild animals on purposeB. the environment is seriously pollutedC. humans haven’t worked to protect themD. the human population has increased greatly14. We can learn from the text that .A. the New Forest is the largest woodland in the worldB. the Brown Bear has been extinct for many years in BritainC. humans destroyed natural habitats mainly by growing cropsD. humans planted hedgerows to make home for cattle and sheep15. Which of the following may the writer agree with?A. Setting up reserves is the best way to protect animals.B. We can hardly stop animals from being endangered.C. Things will become better for wild animals in Britain.D. Human activities began to affect wildlife 200 years ago.第二节〔共5小题;每一小题2分,总分为10分〕根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最优选项。

When things were hard, I would stand by the window and wave to the passengers who looked up. The strange looks made me laugh and stress was washed away.Co-workers began to take an interest in my behavior. They would stand from view, watch the reactions I received, and laugh along. Late afternoon was the best time — rush hour traffic filled the overpass with cars and buses. It didn’t take long to attract a group of staffs who passed the window every day and looked up at the strange waving man. After a while, waving became boring, so I changed ways. I made signs: “Hi,” “Hello,”“Be Happy!” and posted them in the window and waved. I stood near the window in various poses, made faces, stuck out my tongue, and once went into the walkway over the street and danced while co-workers pointed to let fans know I was there.Christmas approached, and job cuts were announced. Several co-workers would lose their jobs, and everyone was feeling low. Stress in the office reached a high. During the break, I hid from my co-workers, slipped into the costume, walked bravely to my desk, sat down, and held my belly, as they gathered around me laughing when my manager was walking through the door. He held his stomach, and tears formed in his eyes. It was the first time I had seen them smile in weeks. He said, “Mike, thanks! With the job cuts it has been hard to enjoy the Christmas season. Thanks for the laugh, I needed it.”24.Which of the following words can best describe the author according to Paragraph 1?A.Optimistic.B.Pessimistic.C.Generous.D.Clever.25.Why was late afternoon the best time?A.Because the author could attract many more people and make them relaxed.B.Because the co-workers would be more interested in his behavior.C.Because there were so many cars and bused then.D.ecause the author was free at that time.26.Who was/were probably interested in the author’s behavior?A.The passengers.B.The drivers.C.The manager.D.The workmates.27.How did the author finally make his workmates and manager laugh?A.By shaking and hitting the manager.B.By his humorous and funny acting.C.By letting his co-workers gather around him.D.By putting pressure on his manager.CTraffic noise can shorten your life, new research suggests. Having to endure rumbling lorries, honking horns and screeching tyres has been linked to shorter life expectancy and a higher risk of stroke.People surrounded by daytime traffic noise louder than 60db (分贝)were 4 per cent more likely to die than those where noise levels were 55db – roughly the level of a loud conversation. The extra deaths mostly involved heart or artery disease - which could in turn be linked to raised blood pressure, sleep problems and stress brought on by noise. The study also found that adults living in areas with the noisiest daytime traffic were 5% more likely to be admitted to hospital for stroke than those from quieter neighbourhoods. For the elderly, this increase in risk rose to 9%.The scientists looked levels of road traffic noise between 7am and 11pm, and at night between 11pm and 7am, across a range of different postcodes and correlated(使有相互关系) their findings with death and hospital admission rates. A number of factors - including individuals' age and sex as well as ethnicity, smoking levels, air pollution and socio-economic deprivation - were taken into account.Commenting on the findings, Professor Francesco Cappuccio, chair of Cardiovascular Medicine and Epidemiology at the University of Warwick, said: “The results do not imply a direct cause-effect relationship. However, they are consistent with other evidence to suggest a possible causal link.”“It has been well established that nocturnal(夜间的) traffic noise disrupts sleep quantity and quality. If sustained over time, these disturbances, like sleep deprivation, have been associated with a 12% increased risk of all-cause mortality, mainly due to a 15% increase in strokeevents and high blood pressure. Public health policies must pay more attention to this emerging evidence. ”said he.Given what we know about traffic emissions increasing heart disease, we should remember that travelling by foot or bike is definitely healthier - both for you and for the people around you.28.The noise of can be lighter than 60db.A.rumbling lorriesB.screeching tyresC.loud conversationsD.honking horns29.What does the underlined word “sustained” mean?A.Restrained.B.Maintained.C.Resolved.D.Mistaken.30.What can we learn from Professor Francesco’s words?A.Walking and bike-riding will not increase heart disease.B.Traffic noise in the daytime is less harmful than in the evening.C.Someone may live healthily without being influenced by traffic noise.D.Traffic noise can cause a 15% increase in stroke and high blood pressure.31.Which of the following is TRUE?A.Traffic noise directly leads to stroke.B.The extra deaths mostly involved noise.C.Traffic emissions are more serious than traffic noise.D.Traffic noise has something to do with high blood pressure.DI’m not a hater. I admire those who write, read and love first person point of view. So why did I write PRETTY DARK NOTHING in third person? The answer is simple. It’s the way the storyand the characters presented themselves to me. It’s part of my unique voice.Maybe my love of third person comes from all those years reading epic(叙事诗) fantasy. I do think my reading preferences influence how and what I write. There’s something about third person that brings a story to life in a way that first person can’t because of its limited view of the characters. I love the richness of language, the depth of the world, the exploraion of emotion and conflict on a broader range that third person allows me. It’s about diversity.I’m not saying you can’t have rich language or depth in first person point of view. You absolutely can, but it is a challenge, just as writing in third makes it harder to create the same close feeling you get from telling and reading a story in first. Where first person explores the inside out, third tends to give a little more room to pull the camera bake and explore the external. To me, you get the best of both worlds. It gives you enough distance so you don’t feel like you’re experiencing the story through a single prism(棱镜)and yet it’s close enough to help the reader connect to the character and feel as if they’re on the journey with them.In the end, there is no right or wrong. Both points of view have their strengths and their weaknesses. All writers must work to find the right balance and to seek their own voice. At the end of the day, it’s all about the story. If the story is great, it doesn’t matter which point of view it’s written in.32.What hsa an effect on the writer’s writing style?A.Her parents.B.Her life experience.C.Her reading preferences.D.Her friends.33.What do we learn about first person from the text?A.It allows the writer to use richer language.B.It is easier for the writer to create close feeling.C.It can express the characters’ feelings more diversely.D.It hels the writer to explore the world more deeply.34.What does the underlined expression “At the end of the day”mean?A.After the sun has set.B.After thinking for a day.C.When a day is over.D.When you consider everything.35.How does the writer sound when expressing her opinion?A.Anxious.B.Humorous.C.Objective.D.Reserved.第二节(共5小题,每小题2分,满分10分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。

It is about a 13-year-old girl named Elizabeth Hardy who babysits the McBride children David and Suzie. One rainy, stormy evening they walk home from school. When they arrive home, water floods the backyard, cuts the power and floods roads, which stops Mr. and Mrs. McBride from coming home. Soon the flooding begins to invade (涌入) the McBrides' home and Elizabeth, David, Suzie and their dog Daisy try very hard to escape and survive the flood. My favorite character is David because I find him very funny and brave, and although he can be stubborn (固执的) and rude at times, he is still a nice and friendly person. As much as I want to be like David I could never be like him. At least, I don't think I could ever do something as brave as he does.I think Eric Walters does a great job in describing the characters and telling the story.I really feel like this all just happened in front of my eyes. Ever since I started reading Safe as Houses I never wanted to put the book down, and considering I was not a bigfan of reading that did not happen very often. Safe as Houses changed my opinion in regard to reading and now I enjoy reading very much.Eric Walters' writing career all started in 1993 when Eric was teaching a grade 5 class. His students were not good readers and did not like reading, so Eric created a book called Stand Your Ground for his students and used some of the students' names to create the story. Ever since Eric published (出版) that book he has become a big time writer and has published many amazing different books like Camp X, Tiger Trap, Camp 30, We All Fall Down and Flyboy.28. What happened on that particular evening?A. A 13-year-old got lost.B. A terrible rainstorm broke out.C. Three children were trapped on the way home.D. What can we infer about the author?A. He is a man full of courage.B. He used to enjoy reading very much.C. He is very like David in Safe as Houses.D. He has been greatly affected by Safe as Houses.31. Why did Eric write Stand Your Ground?A. To record his students' stories.B. To encourage his students to read.C. To state the importance of reading.D. To teach his students they can be writers.DWill Hodson, a primary-school teacher in London, was reading a superhero book to his students one day when a thought struck him. “We were talking about how we can all do something heroic every day —open a door for someone, say something nice to someone,” he recalled. “I decided not t o use the day's lesson plans and asked the five-year-olds to think about, ‘What are we all good at?'”Hodson, 39, was good at cycling, and he ended up taking his lesson to an extreme: After saving up for two years, he left his job and set off on a five-year ride across seven continents to raise money for charity, including for Parkinson's disease, which his father has. Calling himself Super Cycling Man, he tries to visit at least one school per country, to spread the message that “we can all be heroes.”Starting last May, Hodson has hit 14 countries in Europe. On the road, strangers have acted heroically —Turkish gas station attendants sheltered him from the snow, and people in Serbia made a huge pizza for him.So far, he has raised about $19,000 of the $140,000 he hopes to raise. Antarctica, the most expensive continent to visit, is last on his list, after Asia, Australia, the Americas and Africa. The hardest part of the trip has been “just keeping my parents at manageable stress (压力) levels. You see so much bad news in the world, but I see a very different picture —people inviting me to their houses, people pouring me drinks on the street at night.”Along with the superhero message, Hodson hopes to show people that “life's pretty good on two wheels”—particularly in places where cycling is less popular. Tbilisi, Georgia's capital, with its shortage of bike lanes (自行车道) and its crazy drivers, “is the toughest (最艰难的) city I've seen for cyclists, but even there, young people have been receptive.”“The youth d on't want to necessarily have a big pot belly (大肚子) and drive around in a car.”32. What does Hodson's “thought” (in Para. 1) refer to?A. Being a hero himself.B. Giving up his teaching job.C. Doing something heroic every day.D. Reading more superhero books to his students.33. Hodson's cycling around the world _____.A. is a charity rideB. is intended for his fatherC. will be finished in two yearsD. began without any preparation34. What's the most difficult thing for Hodson on his trip?A. Facing the terrible weather.B. Finding cheap places to sleep in.C. Winning his parents' full support.D. Television, radio, and magazines invade(侵扰)the lives of audience with a variety of shows, information, and publications about stars and their lives. For instance, Britney Spears has become the target of paparazzi(狗仔队). In May, Britney appeared at the front page of the most popular magazines revealing that she married her best friend in Vegas, Nevada. Media also invade stars’lives because reporters know they get high profits from readers who buy and follow their favorite artists’ news.Second, some mad audience imitate their celebrities for their lack of confidence. Some people who are shy and lack personalities may find that imitating others will cause a good impression. For instance, my cousin Jenny, who lacks a social life because of her introverted(内向的)personality, believes that acting and dressing like Jennifer Lopez will make her popular in high school. Finally, several fans of stars imitate them because of peer(同龄人)pressure. In fact, when I asked Arianna, my niece, why she was part of Banderas’fan club, she replied with a doubtful tone that she did not wish to be rejected by the other teens. In conclusion, it is true that celebrities play spectacular roles in their performances in Hollywood, which entertains many people all over the world; however, modern celebrities influence the audience to the point where their fans admire and try to imitate their lives.51. It was hoped that the area would experience more funding, higher employment, better tourism and greener environment. Yet is that the truth?According to a study done on the role of sports in funding local communities, there is little evidence about the good effects of such sports events on local communities. Rather, huge Olympic projects take funding away from local communities. For example, the National Lottery(彩票)is contributing£2. 2 billion to the Olympics. Sir Clive Booth, chairman of the Big Lottery Fund, commented on that, “I regret very much that it has been necessary to shift a further£425 m of the Big Lottery Fund to support the 2021 Olympics construction.〞The Olympic Delivery Authority has promised 11, 000 new jobs, with a target of 10%~15% of the workforce to be drawn from East London. But the number of people from the East End who have receivedjobs remains low and local people see 85% to 90% of jobs going to outsiders. The largest area for work is in construction, with 30, 000 potential jobs. However, hiring is directly in the hands of the sub-contractor, who will simply use the cheapest labor, and not take the lead in hiring local people or give contracts to local suppliers. If only time can truly measure the funding and employment opportunities of the Olympics, then can we be certain that the Olympics will bring a lot of tourists to the capital, benefiting the local economy? Well, we can’t. Previous Olympic hosts have overestimated the number of tourists, most recently with Beijing anticipating over 400, 000 and receiving almost half the amount. The environment is also considered to be the pillar of Olympianism, and officials have been advertising 2021 as the greenest Olympics yet. But in reality, a lot of sacrifices have been made to see the Olympics go green. In 2000, a£7. 8 m grant was given to Bully Fen community woodland to create a green legacy(遗产)in the area. This has now been closed to the public, along with the nearby Manor Gardens, which marked the end of the vegetable beds. But whether we like it or not, London is the host for the 2021 Olympics. But perhaps the most important thing about the Olympic Games is not to win but to take part.59. About 400, 000 foreign tourists went to the Beijing Olympics.B. The effects of the 2021 London Olympics have aroused arguments.C. 85%~90% of Londoners have got jobs because of the Olympics.D. Londoners can’t benefit from the 2021 Olympics at all.DBefore leaving work, Steve Lee likes to use his cellphone to turn on his heat and air condition system at home. I did not do anything correctly, and my wife, a Russian, scolded me continuously because I usually embarrassed her very much. It was a wonderful learning experience, but it was trying at the same time and I was only there for a week. Later I moved to Russia to live with her in this radically(完全地)different culture. Each day contained moments of stress, depression, excitement, and wonder. It was like living on an emotional roller coaster(过山车), but I survived it and matured into a more stable and confident person because of it.After a year, I came back to the States to prepare for her coming to America. It was very stressful re-adjusting to the fast pace of life in America, and I had another difficult time with that, but finally I got back into the rhythm of life here again. Then she came, and my rhythm was once again interrupted. The roles were reversed this time and I was the one having to coach her about how to live in America, and the roller coaster began again. I must admit that I had learned to enjoy the ride.It is difficult enough for two individuals here in the States to combine their lives and learn to live together. Just try and imagine how much more is involved in combining two lives andcombining the vast cultural differences that exist between America and Russia. The marriage would be really difficult to be survived when it comes to cross-cultural relationships because there are many, many problems that come into the relationship due to cultural differences.I am extremely happy with my wife though, and she seems to be happy with me. We both try very hard at times to understand our differences and overcome them, but then there are times when we are just two people in love and building a family together, and we enjoy these very much. I would do this relationship again in a heartbeat, but I would sincerely like to point out the fact that a cross-cultural relationship brings more issues to the table than a like-nationality relationship would have.67. His victim, who picked up the ticket, then claimed the £25000 prize, managed to trace him, and handed over the cash. The robbery happened when maths professor Vinicio Sabbatucci,58, was changing a tyre on an Italian motorway. Another motorist, who stopped to "to help", stole a suitcase from his car and drove off. After all, the idea of children working is just unthinkable. That is, until you are told that they are all pupils of stage schools, and that the “work” they go off to is to go on the sta ge in a theatre.Stage schools often act as agenciesA visit to such schools will leave you in no doubt that the children enjoy themselves. After all, what lively children wouldn’t settle for spending only half the day doing ordinary school work, and acting, singing or dancing their way through the other half of the day? Then of course there are times for the children to make a name and make a little money in some big shows. Some stage schools give their children too much professional work at such a young age. But the law is very tight on the amount they can do. Those under 13 are limited to 40 days in the year; those over 13 to 80 days. The schools themselves admit that not all children will be successful in the profession for which they are being trained. So what happens to those who don’t make it? While all the leading schools say they place great importance on children getting good study results, the facts seem to suggest this is not always the case.9. 2019-2020年高二英语下学期第9周周练试题第一部分阅读理解(共两节,满分35分)第一节(共8小题;每小题2.5分,满分20分)阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项,并在答题卷上将该项涂黑。

AHello, my name is David and I'm a mobile-phone addict (手机迷). I am here today to face the truth about my condition and hope that by speaking out I can help others to overe their own problems. The careless observer probably couldn’t find anything wrong with me. I have a respectable appearance and my behavior in public isn’t shocking or attracting. I hadn’t even realized myself that I was a m obile addict until the past few days. But I have just spent two of those days doing an experiment that has showed the terrible reality. I have suffered mentally and physically. And my experience has made me believe that I am only one of millions of fellow addicts. When I turned the phone on after two days I found I had three messages and four texts. OK, so I was a bit put out that there were not more. I had missed the chance to do a phone interview that I had been trying to get for two weeks and an invitation to a last-minute lunch. Angry but to be honest, no more than that. However, I was relieved to have the phone back on. My fingers soon stopped twitching (颤抖) caused by not using the phone. I sent some unimportant texts and made a couple of meaningless calls and that cheered me up.I still believe that the phone is an important tool for work, but realize that otherwise it is often just a meaningless safety blanket “ Hi, darling. I'm on my way home. Just leaving the office now. Love you. Bye.”So do I have the courage to stop using it as such? Of course I do. But I just choose not to.28. The writer’s purpose in writing the text is to________.A. make people know that he is a mobile-phone addict.B. tell us the mobile phone is a kind of useful toolC. inform us of the shortings of the mobile phones.D. help other mobile addicts overe their problems29. During the two days when the mobile phone was turned off, the writer was_______.A. relievedB. cheerfulC. unfortableD. sad30. By saying “ I was a bit put out” the writer probably means “I was________”.A. gladB. angryC. confusedD. troublesome31. From the last paragraph, we can see that the writer will _______.A. throw away the mobile phoneB. stop using the mobile phoneC. still use the mobile phoneD. give the mobile phone to a needy personBMany people in high school can not wait to go to college and leave their hometowns behind. Questions arise, though, when it es to all of the decisions involved in choosing a college. One of the first considerations may be finance. State and public colleges are often the least expensive. Often, though, the better colleges are private and more expensive. It is sad when gifted students cannot attend a college of their choice just for financial reasons.Another major factor is location. Whether the college is in a small town or large city can have a major impact on its activities. A water lover probably will be more fortable spending four years near an ocean or a lake. Those who cannot tolerate heat will probably be more fortable at a northern college. Distance from home may also e into consideration. If family is a top priority, that person should stay close to home; on the other hand, if independence is desired, a campus farther from home would be more appropriate.School size also plays a major role in the decision process. If you want to get to know your teachers, a small college is suitable. For those of you who consideryourself a “people person” and want a wide ra nge of activities, a large college is more fitting. Your area of interest is another factor to consider in the decision-making process if you want to get the most from your education. The whole point of college is to learn what is of interest to you.Crucially(至关重要地), one must take into consideration the colleges by which you can realistically be accepted. An Ivy League school for an average student would probably not be a good match. Similarly, an average school for an above-average student would not work well. The college should provide enough of a challenge for the student to work hard. Although there may not be the perfect college out there, there probably will be one that is close. Those who cannot find a suitable college are probably not looking hard enough.32. When it es to going to college the author thinks .A. students will bee homesickB. students are unwilling to leave their homeC. financial situation is the first to considerD. students are eager to attend their ideal university33. What is the main idea of the third paragraph?A. The location of the college is a main factor.B. A long distance will make students upset.C. Students can be independent at college.D. The climate must be taken into consideration.34. What d oes the underlined part “people person” in the passage mean?A. A person of great capacityB. A very sociable personC. A very particular personD. A person of great importance35. Which is the most important factor when choosing a college?A. The location of a collegeB. School sizeC. The examination resultsD. the ing challenges.第二节(共5小题,每小题3分,满分15分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项,并在答题卷上将该项涂黑,选项中有两项为多余选项。

It could not be bought in shops and even those people who could afford to have it sent from Holland did so only because it was a fashionable curiosity. Some of them were not sure how to use it. They thought it was a vegetable and tried cooking the leaves. Then they served them mixed with butter and salt. They soon discovered their mistake but many people used to spread the used tea leaves on bread and give them to their children as sandwiches.Tea remained scarce and very expensive in England until the ships of the East India Company began to bring it direct from China early in the seventeenth century. During the next few years so much tea came into the country that the price fell and many people could afford to buy it.At the same time people on the Continent were becoming more and more fond of tea.Until then tea had been drunk without milk in it, but one day a famous French lady named Madame de Sevigne decided to see what tea tasted like when milk was added. She found it so pleasant that she would never again drink it without milk. Because she was such a great lady her friends thought they must copy everything she did, so they also drank their tea with milk in it. Slowly this habit spread until it reached England and today only very few Britons drink tea without milk.At first, tea was usually drunk after dinner in the evening No one ever thought of drinking tea in the afternoon until a duchess (公爵夫人) found that a cup of tea and a piece of cake at three or four o’clock stopped her getting “a sinking feeling〞 as she called it. She invited her friends to have this new meal with her and so, tea-time was born.36.Which of the following is true of the introduction of tea into Britain?A. For example, they want to know how their hearts beat. They want to know why the ocean water tastes salty. As children grow up, they become curious about different kinds of things. When they are babies, they are interested in the parts of their bodies and in the smiles of their mothers. They become interested in the physical world around them: the plants, the animals, the sky. Later, they become interested in the things that people have made: wheels, bicycles, cars. And when they are adults, their curiosity continues. Sometimes this curiosity leads to a career (生涯、) in science.Scientists spend their lives trying to find out about the world. Those who work with the earth sciences study the earth, the oceans, and the skies. Other scientists who study living things work with the biological sciences. A third group of scientists study the physical sciences, e.g. physics, chemistry .These scientists have already discovered a lot about our world. For example, they tell us why your heart beats fast when you run. They say that when you are quiet, your heart normally beats sixty-five or seventy-five times a minute. Your heart is a pump (泵) that pumps blood to all parts of the body. The blood carries oxygen and nutrition. When you run, your muscles work very hard and use the nutrition that the blood carries to them. The muscles need oxygen, too . So your brain sends asignal to the heart. The signal means that the muscles need more nutrition and oxygen. Then the heart beats fast and sends blood quickly to the muscles. It may beat 90 to 140 times a minute.Of course, scientists cannot answer all of our questions. If we ask, “Why does the ocean water taste salty〞 scientists will say that the salt comes from rocks. When a rock gets very hot or very cold, it cracks. Rain falls into cracks. The rain then carries the salt into the earth and into the rivers. The rivers carry the salt into the ocean. But then we ask , “What happens to the salt in the ocean? The ocean does not get saltier every year.〞 Scientists are not sure about the answer to this question. We know a lot about our world, but there are still many answers that we do not have, and we are curious.41.According to the passage, which of the following statements is true? A.People are curious in the same way.B.People in different countries are interested in different things. C.Men and women are curious about different things.D.People of different ages are interested in different things 42.Scientists who work with the biological sciences study____.A.the earth , the oceans and the sky B.man-made thingsC.plants and animals D.ocean water43.When you run, your muscles need ____.A.more nutrition and oxygen B.more signals C.more salt D.water 44.A rock cracks _____.A.in wet regions B.in dry regionsC.at very high or very low temperatures D.when salty water falls in45.People are always curious because ____.A.they cannot explain many things B.they know nothing about the worldC.they know little about the world D.they want to be scientists 单词拼写1. 高二英语晚练71-20 BBDCA CAACC DBACA BDCBB语法填空:1.wearing2.But3.which4.luckier5.choices6.to7.to dress8.actually9.are sold 10.belief短文改错:1.【答案】去掉far【解析】首先,far away from不能与数词连用。

“另一份工作”another job,another one。

other指单数名词时,只用于the other one(两者中的“另一个”),另外,other+复数名词,表示“其他的(复数名词概念)”。

4.【答案】classmate改成classmates【解析】名词的单复数错误。

本句中,I had to say goodbye to my…

7.【答案】增加the/ my。

一般情况下,可数名词单数出现时,其前必须有冠词、形容词性物主代词等。

这里因为中心名词day之前出现了序数词first,所以可以为the first day(第一天),也可以为my first day(我的第一天)。

AHello, my name is David and I'm a mobile-phone addict (手机迷). I am here today to face the truth about my condition and hope that by speaking out I can help others to overcome their own problems. The careless observer probably couldn’t find anything wrong with me. I have a respectable appearance and my behavior in public isn’t shocking or attracti ng.I hadn’t even realized myself that I was a mobile addict until the past few days. Love you. Bye.〞So do I have the courage to stop using it as such? Of course I do. But I just choose not to.28. The writer’s purpose in writing the text is to________.A. make people know that he is a mobile-phone addict.B. tell us the mobile phone is a kind of useful toolC. inform us of the shortcomings of the mobile phones.D. help other mobile addicts overcome their problems29. During the two days when the mobile phone was turned off, the writer was_______.A. relievedB. cheerfulC. uncomfortableD. sad30. By saying “ I was a bit put out〞the writer probably means “I was________〞.A. gladB. angryC. confusedD. troublesome31. From the last paragraph, we can see that the writer will _______.A. throw away the mobile phoneB. stop using the mobile phoneC. still use the mobile phoneD. give the mobile phone to a needy personBMany people in high school can not wait to go to college and leave their hometowns behind. Questions arise, though, when it comes to all of the decisions involved in choosing a college. A water lover probably will be more comfortable spending four years near an ocean or a lake. Those who cannot tolerate heat will probably be more comfortable at a northern college. Distance from home may also come into consideration. If family is a top priority, that person should stay close to home; on the other hand, if independence is desired, a campus farther from home would be more appropriate.School size also plays a major role in the decision process. If you want to get to know your teachers, a small college is suitable. For those of you who consider yourself a “people person〞 and want a wide range of activities, a large college is more fitting. When it comes to going to college the author thinks .A. students will become homesickB. students are unwilling to leave their homeC. financial situation is the first to considerD. students are eager to attend their ideal university33. What is the main idea of the third paragraph?A. The location of the college is a main factor.B. A long distance will make students upset.C. Students can be independent at college.D. The climate must be taken into consideration.34. What does the underlined part “people person〞 in the passage mean?A. A person of great capacityB. A very sociable personC. A very particular personD. A person of great importance35. Which is the most important factor when choosing a college?A. The location of a collegeB. School sizeC. The examination resultsD. the coming challenges.第二节〔一共5小题,每一小题3分,满分是15分〕根据短文内容,从短文后的选项里面选出能填入空白处的最正确选项,并在答题卷上将该项涂黑,选项里面有两项为多余选项。

they are in Britain,do not regard themselves as Europeans. The Europeans,to them, are those rather excitable foreigners from the other side of the English Channel, who have never learnt how to speak English.Europe is “the Continent〞:a place full of interest for British tourists, but also the source of almost all the wars in which Britain has ever been involved. Thus, although geographically speaking Britain is a part of Europe, yet the fact that it is a separate island has made its people feel very, very insular. They feel, and in many ways are, different from the rest of Europe and they sometimes annoy continental nations by failing to support them,or even to understand them,in time of need.Where did the British people come from? This is an extraordinary interesting question, since they are a mixture of many different races, and all these races invaded Britain at various times from Europe.Nobody knows very much about Britain before the Romans came during the first century B.C.,but there had been at least three invasions before that. The first of these was by a dark-haired Mediterranean race called the Iberians. The other two were by Celtic tribes:first the Gaels, whose descendants are the modern Scots and Irish, some of whom still speak the Gaelic language;and second the Britons, who gave their name to the whole island of Britain. These were the people whom the Romans conquered. The Romans gave the Britons a good deal of their civilisation, but they never settled in Britain in very large numbers,so the British race survived until the overthrow of the Roman Empire bythe “barbarians〞,i.e.the numerous Germanic tribes which overran the whole of Western Europe.21.The purpose of the passage is to________.A.talk about EuropeansB.discuss the origin of British peopleC.argue that________.A.Europeans are those who are unable to speak EnglishB.those who invaded Britain came from the other side of the English Channel C.Britain is a place full of interest for those excitable AYou may think that sailing is a difficult sport, but it is really not hard to learn it. You do not need to be strong. But you need to be quick. And you need to understand a few basic rules about the wind.First, you must ask yourself, “Where is the wind coming from? Is it coming from ahead or behind or from the side?”You must think about this all the time on the boat. The wind direction tells you what to do with the sail.Let’s start with the wind blowing from the behind. This means the wind and the boat are going in the same direction. Then you must always keep the sail outside the boat. It should be at a 90°angle (角度) to the boat. Then it will catch the wind best.If the wind is blowing from the side, it is blowing across the boat. In this case, you must keep the sail half way outside the boat. It should be at a 45°angle to the boat. It needs to be out far enough to catch the wind, but it shouldn’t flap (摆动). Itshouldn’t look like on a flagpole. If it is flapping, it is probably out too far, and the boat will slow down.Sailing into the wind is not possible. If you try, the sail will flap and the boat will stop. You may want to go in that direction. It is possible, but you can’t go in a straight line. You must go first in one direction and then in another. This is called tacking. When you are tacking, you must always keep the sail inside the boat.21. What should you consider first while sailing?A. Sailors’strength.B. Wave levels.C. Wind directions.D. Size of sails.22. What does the word “It”underlined in Paragraph 4 refer to?A. The boat.B. The wind.C. The sail.D. The angle.23. What do you have to do when sailing against the wind?A. Move in a straight line.B. Allow the sail to flap.C. Lower the sail.D. Tack the boat.24. Where can you probably find the text?A. In a popular magazine.B. In a tourist guidebook.C. In a physics textbook.D. In an official report.BMedical drugs sometimes cause more damage than they cure. One solution to this problem is to put the drugs inside a capsule, protecting them from the body—and the body from them—until they can be released at just the right spot. There are lots of ways to trigger(引发) this release, including changing temperature, acidity, and so on. But triggers can come with their own risks--- burns, for example. Now, researchers in Califonia have designed what could be a harmless trigger to date: shining near-infrared light (NIR,近红外钱) on the drug in the capsule. The idea of using light to liberate the drug in the capsule isn’t new. Researchers around the globe have developed polymers(聚合物) and other materials that begin to break down when they absorb either ultraviolet(UV,紫外线) or visible light. But tissues also readily absorb UV and visible light, which means the drug release can be triggered only near the skin, where the light can reach the capsule. NIR light largely passes through tissues, so researchers have tried to use it as a trigger. But few compounds(化合物) absorb NIR well and go through chemical changes. That changed last year when Adah Almutairi, a chemist at the Unviersity of California, San Diego, reported that she and her colleagues had designed a polymer that breaks down when it absorbs NIR light. Their polymer used a commercially available NIR-absorbing group called o-nitrobenzyl(ONB). When they catch the light, ONB groups fall off the polymer, leading to its breakdown. But ONB is only a so-so NIR absorber, and it could be poisonous to cells when it separates from the polymer. So Almutairi and her colleagues reported creating a new material for capsules that’s even better. This one consists of a long chain of compounds called cresol groupslinked in a polymer. Cresol contains reactive(易反应的) components that make it highly unstable in its polymeric form, a feature Almutairi and her colleagues use to their advantage. After polymerizing the cresols, they cap each reactive component with a light-absorbing compound called Bhc. When the Bhcs absorb NIR light, the reactive component with a light-absorbing compound called Bhc. When the Bhcs absorb NIR light, the reactive groups are exposed and break the long polymer into two short chains. Shining additional light continues this breakdown, potentially releasing any drugs in the capsule. What’s more, Almutairi says, Bhc is 10 times better at absorbing NIR than is ONB and is not poisonous to cells.25. According to the passage, which of the following could be the best trigger?A. Temperature changeB. NIR light.C. Acidity change.D. UV light.26. Why is ONB unsatisfactory?A. It breaks down when it absorbs NIR light.B. It falls off the polymer and triggers drug release.C. It has not come onto the market up till now.D. It is not effective enough and could be poisonous.27. Which word can be used to compete the following process of changes?Bhcs absorb NIR.Part of the cresol is ______Polymer breaks down.Drug is released.A. protectedB. formedC. exposedD. combined第二节:补全短文(每小题2分,共10分)(考点:理解文章基本结构,做出简单归纳,判断推理)Effective time management is the primary means to a less stressful life.
