新课标高二上学期5册Unit 5测试Class: Name: Marks: 满分(120)第一部分阅读理解(共两节,满分40分)第一节(共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分)AIt all started off with five. It was raining, and my dad told me that I had to make five free throws (投球) one after another without a break before I could go home. I was ten years old at that time. So I shot (投球) until I indeed made five free throws. Pretty soon the number of free throws increased until I got to high school and I had to make seventy-five before I could leave the gym.I used to get mad when I reached the required amount and I would miss the next one, but my dad made me start over, saying that I missed it on purpose. So in high school I would usually get to 120 before I stopped. My highest ever was 175. I never expected this would ever bring me some benefit, but one game really changed my idea. Our school team was playing basketball match with Royal High School, and we lost the game by twenty points a week earlier, so this game was all about revenge (报仇). With two minutes left in the game, my team was up by six and their coach told them to foul (犯规). Our coach immediately put forward a perfect plan — giving the ball to me every time. And every time my teammates gave me the ball, the other team would foul me. Then I went to the free throw line and made two free throws successfully. I ended up going ten-for-ten that game all in the last two minutes. The final score was 57-50 and we won.1. We can learn from the first two paragraphs that .A. the author’s father was very strict with himB. the author’s father wanted him to create a recordC. the author had to make five free throws every dayD. the author could make 75 free throws at the age of 102. He ran to the scene with his first aid kit and found an old lady sitting at the bus stop. When boarding (上车) the bus, the old lady painfully hurt her left leg, which was bleeding. He introduced himself, and asked some basic first aid questions to get a general picture of her health. Then he put his jacket on the floor, using the lady’s coat as a pillow, a nd gently laid her down so he could raise her legs and apply some bandages. Bryan said, “At first I was a bit worried about remembering to do all the right things. I made sure she was as comfortable as possible.” When he had nearly finished, he told the la dy that she was his first one. The lady said he was doing a great job.Just a week later, Brian got a second call-out to help another lady at a bus stop.Having used his new skills twice within a short time, Brian has decided to sign up as a Red Cross fir st aid volunteer. As he said, “I just thought: what’s the point in having this knowledge if I’m not going to use it? It felt really good to help those people. For men, the preferred cut is short on the sides and back but longer on top. For women, the company prefers a bob with a longer fringe (刘海) that can be swept to one side. This unusual request is its effort to help the country save energy. The spokeswoman for the Tokyo-based construction firm Maeda Corporation Chizuru Inoue explained, “Our company is eager to protect the environment and we encourage our staff to carry out many environment-friendly actions.”She added, “We are not sure of the data yet, but we believe if people have short hair, they do not need to use their hair driers for so long and they will use less water. If all our employees do this, then we m ay save a lot of power.” Some staff are confused about which style they must have and have been asking which salons (美容院) give the best cut.The energy-saving move is part of a national campaign to reduce energy consumption (消耗) following the Fukushima nuclear disaster. Japan has been struggling to produce enough electricity since the tsunami ended production at the Fukushima plants. The disaster resulted in a review of the country’s energy policy that now means less than a quarter of its remaining nuclear plants are in use. The government has talked about a move away from nuclear energy towards more sustainable (能持续的) technologies. Manygovernment departments have taken measures to save power, including a reduced use of air conditioning in offices and schools. Many employees cannot turn down the air conditioner below 27 degrees in the hottest summer months.8. The company gave the order of hairstyles to .A. keep the company offices cleanB. show a good image of the businessC. make the staff look tidy and prettyD. help reduce energy consumption9. After the Fukushima nuclear disaster, Japan .A. is building more nuclear plantsB. has to rethink its energy policyC. limits people’s daily en ergy useD. decides to close old nuclear plants10. It can be inferred from the text that .A. nuclear power forms 1/4 of Japan’s energyB. nuclear plants will soon disappear in JapanC. the company is not alone in saving energyD. other companies have copied the “hairstyle order”11. What would be the best title for the text?A. Sustainable power is welcome in JapanB. Nuclear disaster brings bad resultsC. Short hairstyles may help save energyD. Japan is lacking in energyDIt turns out that nodding off (睡觉) in class may not be a bad idea, as a new study has shown that going to sleep shortly after learning new materials is the best way to remember them.According to US lead author Jessica Payne, a psychologist at the University of Notre Dame in Indiana, nodding off after learning something new is like “telling” the sleeping brain what to remember. Along with colleagues, she studied 207 students who slept for atleast six hours per night. Students were randomly (随机地) assigned to study something declarative (陈述的) at 9 am or 9 pm, and returned for testing 30 minutes, 12 hours or 24 hours later.Declarative memory refers to the ability to consciously (有意识地) remember facts and events, and can be divided into memory for events and memory for facts about the world. People use both types of memory every day — remembering where they parked today or learning how a colleague prefers to be called. At the 12-hour retest, memory was better following a night of sleep compared to a day of wakefulness (不眠). At the 24-hour retest, with all students having received both a full night of sleep and a full day of wakefulness, students’ memories were greater when sleep happened shortly after learning rather than following a full day of wakefulness.“Our study confirms that sleeping directly after learning something new is beneficial for memory. What’s special for this study is that we have shown sleep’s influence on declarative memo ry,” Payne said. “Since we found that sleeping soon after learning benefited both types of memory, this means that it would be a good thing to go over any information you need to remember before going to bed. In some sense, you may be telling the sleeping brain what to consolidate (巩固).”12. What’s the main idea of the text?A. How to improve one’s memory is a difficult problem.B. Nodding off after learning something new helps remember it.C. Students should nod off in class after they learn new materials.D. The best way to remember new materials is to nod off in class.13. We can learn about the study that .A. Jessica Payne and her colleagues were testedB. 207 students were eager to take the testC. it tested students studying something declarativeD. people’s memory can be divided into two types14. Paragraph 4 mainly tells us .A. students’ memories are the best if they sleep for 12 hours each dayB. sleeping for 24 hours contributes to improving students’ memoriesC. a full day of wakefulness can make students’ memories improved greatlyD. students’ memories are better when sleep happens shortly after learning15. What suggestion does Payne give in the last paragraph?A. The more you sleep, the more you remember.B. Go over what you want to remember before going to bed.C. Teachers should allow their students to sleep in class.D. If you want to improve your memory, you should sleep.第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。

2018-2019学年最新人教版高中英语必修五Unit5单元测试卷四及答案解析-精编试题

单元测试卷(四)(时间:100分钟;满分:120分)Ⅰ.阅读理解(共15小题;每小题2分,满分30分)阅读下列短文,从每题所给的四个选项(A、B、C和D)中,选出最佳选项。

AWhat's your dream vacation? Watching wildlife in Kenya? Boating down the Amazon? Sunbathing in Malaysia? New chances are opening up all the time to explore the world. So we visit travel agents, compare packages and prices, and pay our money. We know what our vacation costs us.But do we know what it might cost someone else? It's true that many poorer countries now depend on tourism for foreign income.Unfortunately, though, tourism often harms the local people more than it helps them.It might cost their homes and lands. In Myanmar,5,200 people were forced to leave their homes among the pagodas (佛塔) in Bagan so that tourists could visit the pagodas.Tourism might also cost the local people their livelihood and dignity.Local workers often find only menial (卑微的) jobs in the tourist industry. And most of the profits do not help the local economy.Instead, profits return to the tour operators in wealthier countries. When the Maasai people in Tanzania were driven from their lands, some moved to city slums.Others now make a little money selling souvenirs or posing for photos.Problems like these were observed more than 20 years ago.But now some nongovernment organizations, tour operators and local governments are working together to begin correcting them.Tourists, too, are putting on the pressure. The result is responsible tourism,or “ethical tourism”.Ethical tourism has people at its heart.New international agreements and codes of conduct can help protect the people's lands, homes, economies and cultures. The beginnings are small, though, and the problems are complex. But take_heart.The good news is that everyone, including us,can play a part to help the local people in the places we visit.Tour operators and companies can help by making sure that local people work in good conditions and earn reasonable wages. They can make it a point to use only locally owned hotel, restaurants and guide services. They can share profits fairly to help the local economy. And they can involve the local people in planning and managing tourism. What can tourists do? First,we can ask tour companies to provide information about the conditions of local citizens. We can then make our choices and tell them why.And while we're abroad,we can do as follows.Buy local foods and products, not imported ones.Pay a fair price for goods and services and not bargain for the cheapest price.Avoid flaunting wealth.Ask before taking photographs of people. They are not just part of the landscape!Let's enjoy our vacation and make sure others do,too.1.What is probably the best title for the article?A.Tourism Causes Bad EffectsB.Tourism Calls for Good BehaviorC.Vacations Bring a Lot of FunD.Vacations Cost More Than You Think【解析】标题概括题。

Cath—who is 60 years old—suddenly fell and hit her head hard on the ground, then became unconscious.Given their location, Linda immediately realised she’d have to depend on her own life-saving skills to make sure her friend stayed safe.“I phoned 999 but, because of our position, they took 30 minutes—maybe even more—to reach us. I knew an air ambulance was also on the way from Exeter, but it seemed like a lifetime while I was waiting.”Luckily, Linda had recently renewed her life-saving skills at first aid in the workplace course so she stayed calm and knew exactly what to do.She said, “Fi rst, I placed my friend in the recovery position. Then I lay against her to keep her warm and wrapped both our coats around her. Then I just kept talking to her to keep her awake.”Linda’s treatment kept her friend safe and warm until doctors arrived and took her to hospital. Looking back, she said, “Being a first aider for real was scary, but I kept my cool and everything the Red Cross taught me kicked in. I’m so glad I renewed my course.”Karen added, “If it had not been for Linda’s first-aid skills, the situation could have been so much worse. She stayed so calm the whole time and I felt completely helpless. This incident has made us all aware of how important it is to have some basic first-aid skills.”Interestingly, the three friends belong to a dog charity—South West GSD Rescue. GSDR promotes safety awareness (推进安全意识) (always have your mobile phone, try and walk with another person) while his members are out walking dogs.31. Linda kept talking to Cath so that .A. Cath could stay awakeB. Cath would not lose heartC. Cath would recover quicklyD. Cath would feel comfortable32. Why could Linda remain calm during the incident?A. Because Karen was with her.B. Because an ambulance was on the way.C. Because her friend was not seriously hurt.D. Because she had just renewed her first-aid skills.33. What did Karen learn from the incident?A. Old people shouldn’t walk their dogs far.B. It’s necessary to learn some first-aid skills.C. One should remain calm during an incident.D. People should keep healthy while walking dogs.34. Members of South West GSD Rescue are asked to .A. meet other dog loversB. donate money to dogsC. give first aid to people walking dogs outD. have safety awareness while walking dogs outsideBResearchers in Hungary have confirmed that dogs understand our feelings, which many dog owners have long suspected. Scientists have made sure that when it comes to emotions, dogs’ brains are similar to those of humans.Dogs are usually not relaxed in a lab environment, but with a little petting (爱抚) and lots of treats they can be trained to sit still. That’s how researchers in Hungary’s ELTE University were able to get images of their brains at work. Research fellow Attila Andics says it helps them better understand the relationship between dogs and humans. It is known for a long time that dogs and humans share similar social environment, but now the results show that dogs and humans also have similar brain structures to process information. After training 11 dogs to stay motionless while their brains were scanned (扫描), the researchers checked their nerve responses to 200 significant sounds, from crying to barking and laughing. They then compared them with humans’. Andics says it opens up new possibilities for research. It establishes a foundation of a new branch of science, because until now it hasn’t been possible to measure the brain activities of dogs. The minds of dogs are also being studied at Duke University, in North Carolina. Co-Director of the school’s Canine Cognition Center, Evan MacLean, says that the Hungarian results are an important step forward. We’ve known for a long time that dogs have a lot of behavio ral similarities compared with humans. But we don’t know anything or very little about whether some of these behaviors are represented similarly inside the brain of the dog, so this research is providing a first understanding of it. And what that tells ordinary dog owners, the Hungarian scientists say, is to treat your companions as friends, not only animals, because they evidently understand human feelings.35. How did researchers get images of the dogs’ brains at work?A. By beating the dogs to make them keep still.B. By giving the dogs love and food to train them.C. By providing a relaxing and familiar lab environment.D. By using the dogs’ nature of obeying the command of humans.36. We can learn from the research that .A. dogs should be treated as friendsB. dogs and humans share similar social environmentC. the brain structures of dogs and humans are quite differentD. dogs have a lot of behavioral similarities compared with humans37. What’s Evan MacLean’s attitude t owards the Hungarian results?A. Cautious.B. Doubtful.C. Favorable.D. Unconcerned.38. What’s the best title for the text?A. Dogs understand how we’re feelingB. How to train dogs in the lab environmentC. Dogs can be trained to understand humansD. The relationship between dogs and humansC“How are things back at the office?” one of the gentlemen in my bicycle tour group asked me as we were nearing the end of another lengthy ride through Croatia’s scenic countryside. “I think they are going fine,” I said. “I haven’t had any contact and I don’t plan to.” “Your cellphone isn’t on?” he asked incredulously. “You haven’t checked your email?” “My cellphone is off and no, I’m not planning for it,” I said.My wife Heidi and I took our children, Daniel and Rachel, on a two-week trip to Croatia, one of the most beautiful countries in the world. We made the choice to spend some of our money on this wonderful experience so we could spend time resting and bonding with each other and the kids.In addition to sharing this wonderful experience, I wanted to take us all out of the activity-driven world that we live in. If I had my cellphone on and was constantly searching out a wireless connection to keep up with the office, I would just bring that worrying environment into this peaceful and meaningful world I was trying to create. One of the primary purposes of taking a vacation is to rest and rejuvenate (使恢复活力). How can you accomplish that goal if you simply move the source of that stress to a different location? Of course, it is one that may have a better view than your office window, but you haven’t truly gotten away.Apart from creating lifelong memories with my family, another wonderful thing happened as a result of this bike trip. As we were returning home, I was flooded with new ideas. I came up with thoughts for five new books and several ideas that I wanted to introduce into my business. It felt like I had received an unexpected gift. While it wasn’t the goal of the trip, I was rewarded with fresh insights (洞察力), ones that would never have occurred to me during the regular course of business. Taking time off rejuvenated me and allowed my creative spirit to really come to thesurface(显露出来).Vacations make us happy, give us time to bond with our families and allow us time to feel rejuvenated and inspired. Just leave your cellphone off and your laptop behind.39. The dialogue at the beginning of the passage suggests that .A. the gentleman didn’t love his jobB. the author was worried about his workC. they were unsatisfied with the bicycle tourD. the author didn’t want to be disturbed by his work40. What does the underlined word “incredulously” in Paragraph 1 probably mean?A. Unbelievably.B. Proudly.C. Eagerly.D. Coldly.41. What do we know about the author’s tour?A. Happy and fruitful.B. Necessary but boring.C. Annoying but peaceful.D. Meaningless and wasteful.42. Where can we most probably read this passage?A. In a personal diary.B. In a travel guide.C. In a business report.D. In a sports report.DEach person must find their own strength and motivation as they overcome the difficulties that stand in their way. Along the way I learned the universal unchanging keys to success that allowed me to develop in the competitive world of professional football and in my present profession as a motivational speaker and author. The first key to success is desire (渴望). As a parent we want great things for our children but unless that desire comes from within your child they cannot succeed. I saw situations where parents had taken away the opportunity for their child to develop that burning desire to succeed. When parents step in and take these decisions away from young athletes, the young never develop the desire that competition at a higher level demands.Goal setting is a training that successful people practice. Sports are great places to develop the habit of goal setting. I have found that setting preparation goals is much more effective than setting game goals. After honestly judging a performance I would pick one or two areas that I needed to concentrate on in preparation for the next game.Dedication (奉献) is hard work, constant learning, and refusing to quit. Do your children know how hard their sports heroes worked and continue to work at their desire? Your dedication and your approval, and respect for dedication will help develop it in your child.Teamwork is what the world is hungry for. In great teams the team covers up for each person’s weaknesses while it values and makes full use of each one’s strengths. A s a longtime captain of the Denver Broncos I have instant credibility in this field but the truth is that teamwork is as important in the workplace as at home.43. According to the second paragraph, parents should .A. find the desire to succeed in childrenB. have higher expectations of their childrenC. create opportunities for children to succeedD. allow children to develop the desire to succeed44. What kind of goals did the author set before a game?A. Game goals.B. Preparation goals.C. Team goals.D. Personal goals.45. How does the author emphasize the importance of teamwork?A. By providing data.B. By making comparisons.C. By giving an example of his own.D. By asking a question and answering it.46. What is the main purpose of the author?A. To argue a point.B. To recall his past success.C. To give parents some advice.D. To share some keys to success.EArianna Huffington, founder and editor-in-chief of The Huffington Post, will reportedly forbid comments made by those who do not use their real names, in an effort to cut down onthe number of trolls. Speaking at a meeting in Boston last Wednesday, Huffington told the crowd that starting from next month, anyone who wishes to comment on her online news website will have to identify (识别) himself by the name that his parents wrote on his birth certificate.“Freedom of expression is given to people who stand up for what they’re saying and who are not hiding behind anonymity (匿名),” Huffington told the audience. “Creating a polite and friendly environment for real conversations has always been the key to The Huffington Post.” At one point she admitted, “Trolls have become more and more aggressive and uglier.”I certainly can prove that. Being an online writer myself, I have been on the receiving end of some unkind, hurtful and mean words. I used to try to react strongly but quickly realized that was the worst way to handle it. Since then I have learned to ignore, ignore and ignore.Social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter also have a host of folks hiding behind their invented names to make hurtful comments on others. Here on , sometimes there is open season for trolls, who will not hesitate to make personal attacks when they do not agree with what is written or when they run out of vocabulary. It is obvious that anonymous comments put online writers at a disadvantage. These online attackers know the writers’ names but the writers do not have a clue who are a ttacking them or where the attackers come from. Hiding behind a username allows the attackers to say the kind of words that they may never have the courage to use with their real identity.Furthermore, this kind of cyberbullying (网上欺凌) has become such extreme aggression that it has caused terrible disasters, especially among youngsters — the suicide rate (自杀率) has been rising in the United States for the last several years. While the economic downturn is usually blamed by many researchers for the increase, for those under 24, experts often link the rise to bullying — especially via social media. So what do you think about Huffington’s efforts to deal with trolls?47. A troll probably refers to a person who .A. tries to annoy others onlineB. is interested in online newsC. works as an online writerD. often makes comments online48. What do we know about Huffington from Paragraph 2?A. She decides to become more aggressive.B. She doesn’t support freedom of expression.C. She is against online anonymous comments.D. She always speaks out whatever she wants to say.49. What do Facebook, Twitter and Allvoices have in common?A. They are all online news websites.B. They all refuse strong personal opinions.C. They all forbid people from commenting anonymously.D. They all face the problem of online personal attacks.50. The author believes that online anonymity .A. may result in a high suicide rateB. will help prevent cyberbullyingC. will slow the growth of economyD. will help writers express their opinions第三部分书面表达(共两节,满分50分)第一节完成句子(共10小题;每小题2分,满分20分)阅读下列各小题,根据汉语提示,用句末括号内的英语单词完成句子。

Early in the Five Dynasties, a man named Li Ye used to make and fly a kite in the emperor’s court. He once tied a whistle (哨子) made of bamboo to the kite. Sound was made when the kite was flying. The kite was named after Zheng, a kind of Chinese musical instrument. Then it was named Fengzheng in Chinese. The earliest kite in the world was made by Mo-tse (墨子), a famous Chinese philosopher, who lived 2,300 years ago, for military (军事的) aims. He spent three years making an eagle and managed to fly it. The eagle was later regarded as the first kite in the world. Kite-flying became a recreation (消遣)probably from the Tang Dynasty when the royal family and people of the highest class enjoyed it. Later, the paper-made kite was invented, which cost less and spread quickly among the common people. As time went on, kites flew to various countries in the world. A dentist (牙医) may be able to put the tooth back in for you, but you have to get to the dentist first. At the same time, you have to store the tooth so that it will stay healthy. The simplest thing to do is to put the tooth back into your mouth, or you could put it in milk. Frank Courts, a dentist at the University of Florida, worked with other researchers to find the safest way of keeping knocked-out teeth. He tried putting teeth into milk, into water, and into cell-culture medium(细胞培养液). He also tried just drying the teeth in the open air. Heused teeth that had to be removed from people’s mouths for various reasons. The result showed that the cell-culture medium worked best to keep a knocked-out tooth healthy outside the mouth. However, few people keep cell-culture medium handy at home or in school. The next best thing was milk. But Dr Courts said that the best thing of all was to wash the tooth and put it right back into its socket in the mouth. For some people, though, this is just too painful. So milk will do, until you get your tooth to a dentist.13. The passage is mainly about how ______.A. a dentist can save a knocked-out toothB. to keep a knocked-out tooth healthyC. Late one night the villagers told him that the village was rocked by what everyone thought was an earthquake. The ground shook. The houses trembled. And the earth cracked open. There had been no earthquake, however. Instead, here in this small village in the central province of Shanxi, three large coal mining operations have been digging underground for coal —day and night. While Shanxi provides the fuel that powers China’s economy, thousands of acres of land are sinking because of underground coal mining. And all day long trucks overloaded with coal run past the village, cracking the roadsand covering the roadside homes in coal dust.Today, Shangma Huangtou has no water. Villagers say the stream running through here dried up 10 years ago. Now, the wells have run dry, too. Some villagers often talk about the village’s founding myth (传说) about how the beautiful village was founded in ancient times with a small lake in its centre. But one day, according to the myth, a smart man from southern China came and stole the village frog, bringing ruin to the village.“I don’t believe this myth,”Mr Lin, the village chief, said. “I believe there’s no water because of the coal mines. Unit 1 Great Scientists单元检测Ⅰ.阅读理解AMy mom takes pride in the fact that I was talking in three and four word sentences before I was ten months old. Some say it’s a gift while others simply think I talk too much.As my thirties came to a close, I found myself reflecting on my life. I’m very happy and have no significant sadness or disappointment. However, when I looked back on those times ofdifficulty, I saw a clear common denominator(特征): I didn’t seem to know when to stop talking. Whether it was hurt ing someone’s feelings, or having carelessly told a secret, the incident could have been avoided, had I closed my mouth sooner. So I decided to practice the power of quiet. To take this step, I needed to understand how people could sit comfortably in a group and not talk. Why does my husband feelcompletely content to say nothing in a conversation? He’s highly intelligent and has wonderful opinions but he’ll sit quietly and just listen. Even when he’s asked a pointed question, he’ll answer withfew words while still communicating effectively. What a talent! Can you imagine being happy just listening? In surveying those I know who talk less than I do, I got two answers—they either didn’tfeel confident enough to speak up, or they just didn’t feel the needto participate in the conversation. Of course there were other reasons for not talking, but these were the two most popular answers. The first one didn’t work for me. I’m just fine letting people know what I think about them, and hopefully it will make the conversation much more interesting. The second one didn’t work either.I do feel the need to participate. I feel it physically like an electrical pulse through my body; sometimes it’s so strong that it causes me to behave badly in the form of interrupting or speaking in an unusually loud voice. I had to look further. An interesting thing happened on this journey to the power of quiet. During my weekly yoga class, it came to me like an answer so clear that the words rang in my head like soft, heavenly bells.I talked too much so people would know I cared about them. It was my way of taking care of those I love. I decided before myfortieth birthday, that from that day forward, those around me would know I loved them, and cared what they thought and felt, but I was going to practice the power of quiet. As my forty-second birthday comes close, I can say that deciding to talk less has been more about centering on quality rather than quantity. I’ve found that listening more shows those who I care about that I really do care how they feel. Now when I break in, it means more to them. Oh, sure, I still have my short periods of talking too much, but for the most part this has been one resolution that I can call a success.1. The writer was determined to practice the power of quiet because of ______.A.other people’s criticismsB.her reflections on her past lifeC.her mother’s adviceD.her age2. In Paragraph 3 the writer mentions her husband mainly ______.A.to show how one communicates effectivelyB.to explain the reason for his silence in a conversationC.to give her high opinion of his communication skillsD.to give an example of those who have the power of quiet3. By “I had to look further”, the writer means she had to ______.A.look into the future in order to succeed in practicing the power of quietB.try harder to prevent herself from talking too muchC.find out other reasons why she should talk lessD.survey people in other areas who talk littleBThink about vitamin D when you’re catching up on summer rays. It’s sometimes called the “sunshine vitamin” because it’s produced in your skin in response to sunlight.
