the guest﹣host relationship(关系)in China is much different than in some western countries. It seems that they are not nice guests. And western guests sometimes look rude in the eyes of Chinese guests. In China, guests are almost like gods(上帝).Whenever I enter a Chinese person's home, there is always fruit on the table for me,and someone is quick to bring me a cup of tea or water. In the west, generally the guest is not a god.Acting according to(根据)the host's way of doing things is usual behavior for a guest. My wife's mother,a very kind elderly Chinese lady, doesn't smoke. When I see some of her guests smoking in her house,as a non﹣smoker,I feel unhappy.Usually I want to stop them directly(直接地),but I must realize that in China,to be a good host, she must not do that.In most North America homes,if you country. So,if you invite international guests to yourhome, don't be too surprised if they don't bring you a gift.In China, you probably won't need to change the guest﹣host relationship very much because you will probably only be the host, and Chinese are naturally very good hosts. If western hosts invite you to their house, try not to be too surprised if their style of treating you is not what you have expected.(1)Many foreigners think that Chinese hosts are the A in the world.A.bestB.worstC.most naturalD.most difficult(2)When a western guest visits a Chinese family,he often B.A.buys some For example, the information for weather forecasts is sent by satellite. Some satellites have cameras which take photographs of the Earth to show how clouds are moving .Satellites are also used to connect our international phone calls.Computer connections of the World Wide Web and Internet also use satellites. Many of our TV programs come to US through satellites. Airplane pilots also sometimes use a satellite to help them find their exact location. We use satellites to send television pictures from one part of the world to another. They are usually 35,880 kilometers above the equator. Sometimes we can see a satellite in the sky and it seems to stay in the same place. This is because it is moving around the world at 11,000 kilometers an hour—exactly the same speed that the earth rotates.A satellite must orbit the Earth with its antennae facing the earth. Sometimes, it moves away from its orbit,So there are little rockets on it which are used to put the satellite back in the right position .This usually happens about every five or six days.Space is not empty! Every week, more and more satellites are sent into space to orbit the Earth. A satellite usually works for about 10-12 years. Scientists believe that it may be the largest dinosaur ever known. But don't be afraid: they were plant-caters.This kind of dinosaur, which is not yet named, probably once reached 131 feet in length and 80 tons in weight. Jose Luis Carballido is the leader of a team of scientists at the Egidio Feruglio Muscum. "It's as long as two trucks and heavier than 14 African elephants together in weight," Carballido said.Carballido and his team found seven huge dinosaurs among more than 200 fossils in the province of Chubut, Argentina. A local farmworker let the museum know about the fossil-filled area in 2011.Eating MachinesHow did these dinosaurs get so big? To find out, scientists like Martin Sander, at Bonn University in Germany, have studied the dinosaurs' fossils and some animals. These animals and the dinosaurs have similar features(特征). Scientists have discovered that the huge dinosaurs were built to eat.Sander says a dinosaur can grow big because of its ability to eat without chewing (咀嚼). This kind of dinosaur could cat leaves quickly without stopping to chew on them. Not chewing also influenced the dinosaur's shape. Its head could stay small and light because it didn't need to chew. Having a little head allowed the dinosaur's neck to grow very long. The long neck, says Sander, was the dinosaur's most important feature. The dinosaur could reach plants一near and far一easily. By eating quickly, dinosaurs grew to be the biggest land animals on Earth.( )13. How did the team know about the foss il-filled area?A. They found it by accident.B. Someone told them about itC. Nowadays, children get red pockets from their parents and their relatives. It is a good time for people to visit relatives and friends. Every New Year, people also get together and have lots of activities. They sing songs and share with friends or watch movies in the cinema. Besides, the Spring Festival has become a key time for Chinese living in the US. They join in a large evening party to welcome the traditional New Year. The Chinese New Year will be welcomed with three weeks of celebration across Australia. Thousands of people come to Sydney's Chinatown. They enjoy fireworks and lion dances. The festival spread to China as early as the 1980s and was widely accepted. Why did a foreign festival become popular in China? In fact,Chinese traditional culture has always encouraged filial(孝顺的) devotion to parents. There are many stories which show filial respect in ancient China. For example, the story of “Taste Liquid(液体的) Medicine for Mother” tells us the filial virtue(美德) of Emperor Wen of the Western Han dynasty. His mother had been sick for three years. He often stayed up by her bedside and cared for her day and night. He tasted the liquid medicine first before she drank it. Also, mother love is a repeated subject in Chinese ancient poems, like “Song of the Parting Son” by Meng Jiao,a poet of the Tang dynasty. Now this poem is still a must in the school textbooks. Children in China are brought up with the education of filial devotion. On special days, people often use roses or forgetmenotes to express love. Carnations are considered as the perfect flowers for mothers around the world, but few know that China has its own for mothers—the tiger lily.Love for mothers can have different ways of expression. What matters most is love, not the festival itself. What mothers truly want is perhaps just a simple expression of love from their children. ( )1. When did Mothers Day spread to China?A. It's a chance for me to get away from real life. There's nothing better than being lost in a story unless,of course, someone decides to break down the moment.Whether at a cinema or a huge theatre, someone usually decides to treat the place like their own home! There is an accepted way of behaving at the cinema which some people don't seem to understand. To start with, some people always turn up late, causing you to rise from your seat to allow them to go past. Then, when you want to enjoy the surroundsound effects, someone begins to enjoy their drinks and popcorn and thus makes a lot of noises. And what I can't stand most is people who decide to chat to their friends, sometimes not even about the film.I'm not alone in this situation. Simon Mayo,a film critic at the BBC,experienced a “new low” during a film. He says,“ The woman in front of me got a mirror out, then her boyfriend got a phone out and used the light on it to allow her to do her makeup!”Simon has helped to create a list of rules on how moviegoers should behave at the cinema. One of them is no use of mobile phones, and another is not to take your shoes off—a most serious offence(冒犯) !Of course, when we have paid for a ticket,we feel it is our right to relax and enjoy the film in the way we want to,but we mustn't forget our fellow moviegoers who want to enjoy the cinematic experience, too. The best choice for anyone wanting to break the rules of cinema manners is to get a DVD and watch it at home. But we all know that the best way to enjoy the art of cinematography is on the big screen.________.What about you? What annoys you about other people at the cinema? ( )1. Within 12 days, they made more than 1,500 yuan.Among them, the oldest is 21 years old, while the youngest is just 10. They are all cousins in a big family and eight of them are from rural areas.“Compared to traveling, such social practice connects us and makes us learn how tough our parents are,” said Dalin,18,to the City Morning Post. Dalin,a senior high graduate, and her 12yearold brother Xiaolin came up with the idea. They learned to work hard to sell their veggies. Every morning they had to wake up at 3 o'clock. Some of them went to the farmer's market to buy vegetables. Some of them went to the local market to take up a temporary stall(临时摊位). To lower the cost, they learned to bargain(讲价) with the sellers. At about 6:30 am,they began to sell vegetables. They peddled(吆喝) loudly to attract(吸引) customers. After several days, they got some experience, too. For example,it was better to put vegetables in order and bigger ones on top. When the vegetables are too heavy, they should give customers an extra plastic bag. When they finally packed up and went home, they had a small meeting. However, strictly speaking,Boxing Day is the first weekday after Christmas. Like Christmas Day,Boxing Day is a public holiday. This means it's a nonworking day inthe whole of Britain. When Boxing Day falls on a Saturday or Sunday, the following Monday is the public holiday. The exact origin(起源) of the holiday is unclear. One of the thoughts is that during the Middle Ages, when great sailing ships were setting off to discover new land, a Christmas Box was placed by a priest (神父) on each ship. Those sailors who wanted to ensure a safe return would drop money into the box. It was sealed_up and kept on board until the ship came home safely. Then the box was handed over to the priest in the exchange for the saying of a Mass of thanks for the success of the sailing. The priest wouldn't open it to share the contents with the poor until Christmas. One more thought is about the “Alms Box” placed in every church on Christmas Day. Worshippers (做礼拜的人) put gifts for the poor into it. These boxes were always opened the day after Christmas, that is why that day became known as Boxing Day.Today, many businesses, organizations and families try to keep the traditional spirit of Boxing Day alive by donating (捐赠) their time, services and money to aid Food Banks, providing gifts for the poor, or helping families in need. At the moment we're staying near Uluru—that's the aboriginal(土著) name for Ayers Rock. On the first day, we took a balloon tour over the rock, and I was surprised at how big it was: 3.6 kilometers long and 384 meters high. The colors of the rock are fantastic, and at different times of the day, they change from purple to red. The Aborigines are the first people of Australia, and the ancient aboriginal stories describe the spirits that created the world. Uluru is a center of Aboriginal culture. The Australians have many British relatives. That's why they're like us in many ways. Their family life is similar to ours, and they enjoy the same food and hobbies. The food and drink that most Australians like are grapes, lamb, ham and especially wine that they make in the south of the country. They love all sports, but football is the most popular. Most Australians live near the coast, so they also love going to the beach, swimming and surfing.Although it's December, it's summer over here. The sunshine is very bright, and near the coast the countryside is very green. There are lots of sheep in the fields and on the hills, but the outback(澳洲内陆) is more like a desert, full of rocks and sand. The next day after we arrived at Uluru, we went on a camel(骆驼) ride. The camel that I rode had a bad temper. When I sat on its back, it became very angry and refused me. 2019届中考英语阅读理解50篇( 精品训练题)1When I was a kid in Minnesota, watermelon was expensive. One of my father’s friends, Bernie, was a rich businessman, who owned a large store in St. Paul.Every summer, when the first watermelons arrived, Bernie would call. Dad and I would go to Bernie’s place. We’d sit on the edge of the dock(码头), feet dangling(摇晃), and got ready for a big meal.Bernie would take his knife, cut our first watermelon, hand us both a big piece and sit down next to us. Then we’d bury our faces in watermelon, eating only the heart—the reddest, juiciest, firmest, sweetest, most seed-free part—and throw away the rest.Bernie was my father’s idea of a rich man. I always thought it was because he was such a successful businessman. Years later, I realized that it was not Bernie’s wealth itself but his way of dealing with it that my father liked. Bernie knew how to stop working, get together with friends and eat only the heart of the watermelon. What I learned from Bernie is that being rich is a state of mind. Some of us, no matter how much money we have, will never be free enough to eat only the heart of the watermelon. If you don’t take the time to dangle your feet over the dock and enjoy life’s small pleasure, your work is probably hurting your life. For many years, I forgot that lesson I’d learned as a kid on the loading dock. I was too busy making all the money I could.Well, I’ve relearned it. I hope I have time left to enjoy the success of others and to take pleasure in the day. That’s the heart of the watermelon. I have learned again to throw t he rest away.1. We learned from the second paragraph that the writer and his father were feeling ______.A. relaxedB. worriedC. hungryD. proud2. Most readers know that his real name was Samuel Longhorne Clemens, but how many know where the pen name “Mark Twain” came from? The answer shows Clemens' colourful early life before he became a writer. “Mark Twain” was the cry shouted on a ship when the ship entered a part of a river that was two fathoms(6 feet)deep. “Twain” is an oldfashioned way of saying “two”. Twa in trained as a ship pilot on the Mississippi river for two years, a time that he wrote about in the humorous Life on the Mississippi(1883).The famous river would become an important theme in many of his works—who could forget the journey of Huck and Jim along it in his most famous book, The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn(1884)?With little education, he had to teach himself how to write stories. Whenever possible, he would go to public libraries. There he spent much time reading and thinking, which greatly helped him with his writing. On the other hand, his life experiences gave him wonderful material to write about and attract readers. Twain wrote in a style that has been called “local colour” because it shows great knowledge of local people and their customs. This gift is very clear in the two books for which Twain is still celebrated today:The Adventures of Tom Sawyer(1876) and its follow-up The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn, whichmany people call “The Great American Novel”.The most amazing invention in the book is the voice of Huck himself. Huck did not enjoy schooling. It shows in the way he uses language, in a spoken style. Only a master like Twain could copy the way a young southern boy talked so well.()1. Now they have found something new-hot cities! In the southern US, they have found that cities become very hot in summer. For example, the city of Atlanta in Georgia has rooftop temperatures of up to 50 degrees while it is 27 degrees in the streets! At night, the outsides of the building stay so hot that the heat of the city causes storm over the city.China also has the same kind of problems. Every year more farming land is used for factories or offices. More housing is needed, too. As people become richer, they buy more cars. Now roads are needed and new car parks are built in the city centers. This all makes the city hotter. It is not easy to change the situation. City planners say that we should plant more trees in the middle of cities. Every new street should have trees on both sides, they say. Trees make the temperatures lower, so we should have more trees in our parks and squares. Also we should paint our roofs white. If we do this, they do not become so hot. Every roof in a hot and sunny country should have solar roof panels. The electricity from these can be used to run the air conditioners in the building.People continue to cut down forests around the cities. This makes the problem worse. Cities are growing faster and faster. By the year 2025, 80% of the world’s population will be living in cities. If we go on like this, there will not be enough farmland to feed everyone in the world.1. The best title for the passage is _______.A. The earth is getting warmerB. More land is neededC. In other words, they have more chances to choose a good job while people with little or no education don’t. It seems that the purpose of education is to make people ge t jobs. But this isn’t accepted by all people. Some people may think that a person should spend the best years of his life to get education only for a way of living. This was probably one of the earliest reasons of education. In fact, if education is just a way of making a living, people don’t need to spend so much time in school. People can get education for a living in a short time. Subjects like history and geography need not be taught to everyone. Even language and mathematics need not be taught in detail(详细地), either. Here it is clear that education is much more than teaching a man to get a way of living.Education is well-rounded and it is mainly for improving a man. It is not only to teach him to speak, read and write, but also to develop his creative thinking and other abilities. After that, it is to make him a wise man and thankfully enjoy the achievements of humans. Education is to make a man lead a better life. Educated people are expected to be able to listen to good music, read good books, watch plays and most of all take an interest in the world.I would agree that making a good living is an important reason for education, but certainly not the most important or the main reason.1. People with little education usually _______.A. spend a long time in schoolB. have a good chance to get a jobC. spend the best years to choose jobsD. have a smaller chance to get a good job2. When I traveled across to the other side of the island, I could see the other islands, and I said to myself, “Perhaps I can get there with a boat. Perhaps I can get back to England one day.”So I decided to make myself a boat. I cut down a big tree, and then began to make a long hole in it. It was hard work, but about six months later, I had a very fine canoe (独木舟). Next, I had to get it down to the sea. How silly I was! Why didn't I think before I began work? Of course, the canoe was too heavy. I couldn't move it! I pulled and pushed and tried everything, but it didn't move. I was very unhappy for a long time after that. That happened in my fourth year on the island. In my sixth year I did make myself a smaller canoe, but I did not try to escape in it. The boat was too small for a long journey, and I did not want to die at sea. The island was my home now, not my prison, and I was just happy to be alive. A year or two later, I made myself a second canoe on the other side of the island. I also built myself a second house there, and so I had two homes. My life was still busy from mo rning to night. There were always things to do or to make. I learnt to make new clothes for myself from the skins of dead animals. They looked very strange, it is true, but they kept me dry in the rain.I kept food and tools at both my houses, and also wild goats. There were many goats on the island, and I made fields with high fences to keep them in. They learnt to take food from me, and soon I had goats' milk to drink every day. I also worked hard in my corn (玉米) fields. And so many years went by.1. To survive, the writer did the following EXCEPT _____________.A. keeping goats for milkB. making clothes from animal skinsC. working in the cornfieldsD. going fishing in the sea3. Why didn't the writer use his first canoe?A. Because it was too small for a long journey.B. Because it was too heavy to get down to the sea.C. Because there was something wrong with it.D. From the story, we can learn that _____________.A. the writer tried to make his stay comfortable on the islandB. the writer had nothing to do on the wild islandC. the writer tried to escape in the second canoe, but failedD. the writer was in prison on the island, losing his freedom5.What is the best word to describe the writer?A. excitedB. braveC. adventurousD. hard-working阅读理解答案:ADBAC。

抓住四个"W"和一个"H",就是边读边用铅笔做些标记,把What (事件),When (时间),Where(地点),Why(原因),How(经过)划出来。
