(2015 年山西忻州四校联考)Have you ever heard of a great Chilean poet? He was of all classes, he is one of the most widely read and respected poets in history. And this year is the 110th birthday of Pablo Neruda(1904-1973). Born with the name Neftali Ricardo Reyes Basoalto, he was a tall, shy and lonely boy. He loved to read and started to write poetry when he was ten. The American poet Walt Whitman, whose framed picture Neruda later kept on his table, became a major influence on his work. However, his father did not like the idea of having a poet for a son and tried to discourage him from writing. To cover up the publication of his first poem, he took the pen name Pablo Neruda. In 1924 Neruda gained fame with his most wid ely read work “Twenty Love Poems and a Song of Despair〞. Yet his rich experience as a diplomat and exile made him go beyond the theme of love. His work also reflected the political struggle of the left and development of South America. He was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1971.Neruda loved the sea which he saw as creative, destructive and forever moving. Within 20 days, seven-year-old Gianessa Wride's hair was completely gone, and her doctor said the hair would never grow back. Gianessa had become one of the 6. 8 million Americans with alopecia, an auto-immune disease that causes hair loss.Alopecia isn't painful, but for kids who suffer from it, the severe pain comes from standing out from the crowd. For the most part, the students in Gianessa's first-grade class in Salem, Utah, were understanding. But the occasional jokes of "Baldy"(秃子) made her feel like an abandoned child. "I didn't want her to feel that she wasn't like the other kids," her mother said." I tried covering her baldness, but the artificial hair was uncomfortable."Then comes the school's traditional "Crazy Hair Day" in April, a great just-for-fun celebration where all the kids and their parents can express their wild sides a bit. Daniella and Gianessa decided that rather than hide Gianessa's baldness under the artificial hair, they would celebrate it. Daniella bought scrapbook-sticker (贴纸) jewels and decorated her head with flowered designs and even a deer. "They just fit her personality," Daniella smiled. "She's so lovely."On the morning of the competition, Gianessa was nervous. Would her friends think it was funny? However, with her mother's encouragement, she had nothing to fear. Impressive Gianessa was a hit and a winner of the crazy-hair competition. Gianessa is now glad that she dared to go bare. "I was sad at first when I lost all my hair," she told people. "But now I love being bald. I can do things to my head that other kids can't. I'm thinking now it might be fun to decorate my head with some colourful butterflies and flowers. "(1)Why was Gianessa different from other kids?A.She was born bald.B.She suffered from hair loss.C.She was talented in hair designing.D.She had her head fully shaved.(2)How did others react to Gianessa's disease?A.Her doctor was quite optimistic.B.Her mother gave her artificial hair.C.Her classmates were all considerate.D.Her school offered her special help.(3)What could Gianessa do on the "Crazy Hair Day"?A.She could tease others.B.She could decorate her hair.C.She could shop scrapbook-stickers.D.She could show her personality.(4)What is the main idea of the text?A.The girl faced her disease in a most beautiful way.B.The artificial hair built up the girl's confidence.C.The competition served as a way to make a change.D.The disease was cured with mother's love and care.【答案】(1)B(2)B(3)D(4)A【解析】【分析】本文是一篇记叙文,一个七岁的女孩Gianessa Wride得了一种疾病,掉光了头发还不可能再重新长出来,但是她终于在家人和同学们的帮助下,勇敢地展现她的个性,愉快地生活。

The moves were a gesture of support after the firm's chief financial officer was arrested in Canada in early December at the request of the United States.Huawei's booming sales show how major parts of its business continue to increase even as the United States tries to persuade other countries to shut Huawei products out of 5G wireless networks and pursues(追究) criminal charges against it. The company expects to overtake Samsung as the world's biggest smartphone maker by next year.Huawei sold 30 million phones in China in the last three months of 2018, nearly three times as many as Apple(AAPL), according to data published this week by research firms Canalys and IDC. Apple's sales plunged almost 20%.Huawei's success in China, the world's largest smartphone market, is more than about geopolitics(地缘政治). Chinese consumers love its flagship, high -end- phones because they have great cameras, cutting edge technology and cost less than the latest iPhones, according to analysts. And by offering a selection of cheaper phones, Huawei is able to target a bigger market. It also benefited from the troubles this year at ZTE (ZTCOF), a rival Chinese smartphone and telecommunications equipment maker. ZTE was banned by the US government from buying vital American parts for months last year.(1)Why did Huawei's China sales increase greatly according to the article?A. Because the company's devices are always popular worldwide.B. Because Chinese consumers' patriotism was aroused.C. Because the government encourages people to buy Huawei devices.D. Because the country's overall market for smartphones is getting bigger.(2)What can we conclude from the third paragraph?A. Huawei's chief financial officer was arrested in Canada due to the US's request.B. All Chinese companies showed their support to Huawei with their purchase.C. Jusy Hong thought the United States arrested Huawei's chief financial officer.D. Jusy Hong thought the arrest of Huawei's chief financial officer is unfair.(3)How do you understand the underlined word in the fifth paragraph?A. increased greatly by.B. reduced greatly to.C. dropped greatly by.D. remained steady.(4)Why is Huawei's success in China more than about geopolitics?A. Because Huawei has the largest smartphone market in the world.B. Because Huawei's success is only limited within China mainland.C. Because Huawei has the ability to target a bigger market in the world.D. Because Chinese consumers are quite satisfied with Huawei smartphones.【答案】(1)B(2)A(3)C(4)D【解析】【分析】本文是一篇说明文,介绍了华为公司在手机市场日益缩小的中国仍然火爆的原因。

For most of us, work is the central, dominating fact of life. We spend more than half our conscious hours at work, preparing for work, traveling to and from work. What we do there largely determines our standard of living and our status to a considerable extent. It is sometimes said that because leisure has become more important, the injustices of work can be pushed into a corner, and that because most work is pretty intolerable, the people who do it should compensate for its boredom, frustrations and humiliations by concentrating their hopes on the other parts of their lives. For the foreseeable future, however, the material and psychological rewards which work can provide will continue to play a vital part in determining the satisfaction that life can offer.Yet only a small minority can control the pace at which they work or the conditions where their work is done; only for a small minority does work offer scope for creativity, imagination or initiative.Inequality at work is still one of the most glaring (明显的) forms of inequality in our society. We cannot hope to solve the more obvious problems of industrial life, many of which arise from the frustrations created by inequality at work, unless we handle it determinedly. The most glaring inequality is that between managers and the rest. For most managers, work is an opportunity and a challenge. Their jobs engage their interest and allow them to develop their abilities. They are constantly learning. They are able to exercise responsibility. They have a considerable degree of control over their own and others' working lives. Most important of all, they have opportunities to initiate. By contrast, for most manual workers, work is a boring, dull, even painful experience. They spend all their working lives in intolerable conditions. The majority have little control over their work. It provides them with no opportunity for personal development. Many jobs are so routine that workers feel themselves to be mere cogs (齿轮) in the bureaucratic machine. As a direct consequence of their work experience, many workers feel alienated (疏远) from their work and their firm.(1)In the writer's opinion, people judge others mainly by ________.A. the type of work they doB. the place where they workC. the time they spend at workD. the amount of money they earn(2)According to the writer, to solve problems in an industrial society, we ________.A. should create more working opportunities for the poorB. have to get rid of the unequal aspects in workC. had better cancel all managing positions in a companyD. should encourage the manual workers to promote efficiency(3)What advantage does the writer say managers have over workers?A. They won't be out of work.B. They get time off to learn constantly.C. They can work at what interests them.D. They have complete control over themselves.【答案】(1)A(2)B(3)C【解析】【分析】本文是一篇议论文,工作是人们生活的中心和主导,工作也给人们带来很多的问题。

to do acupuncture(针灸),and I have found great relief. Now I walk unaided,so I keep coming for treatment,” she said.As Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) is gaining popularity in Ghana, many acupuncture clinics run by Chinese doctors pop up in the country. However, the China Traditional Herbal Hospital was established by 52-year-old Ghanaian business owner Bediako, after his fruitful encounter with the effects of TCM in .With the help of a Chinese lady,Bediako set up a small clinic specializing in TCM.Years on,the facility has subsequently grown into a bigger herbal hospital. The hospital treats patients with a combination of local and Chinese herbal cures. It supports this with the application of traditional Chinese medical methods.Strokes(中风) account for 1.3 percent of all hospital Smo ky the Bear’s famouswarning:“Remember, only YOU can prevent forestfires.”However, that’s not always the case.Under the right conditions, and when conducted safely, fire can create many environmental benefits as well as help preventlarger, uncontrollable wildfires. After a forest fire, many wildlife species will move into recently burned areas to feed on these newly available foods.Somereptiles and amphibians such as the pine (松树) snake prefer forests frequently burned by fire.As Herbert Stoddard put it,“One o f the most harmful things modern man has done to birds has been his attempt to e fire-type pine forests.Within a few years most forests choke up with bushes, lose their prairie-like vegetation (草原般植被) and can no longer support birds dependent on periodic burning for their food supply and proper cover.”If you are asked to picture the forest floor, what do you see?Pine needles, cones, leaves, branches might come to mind—all sources of fuel.If these fuel sources build up without any type of removal, the “fuel load”can lead to fires catastrophic to forests and people alike. In contrast, prescribed fire can be used by forest professionals every couple of years to keep forest fuels at an appropriate and manageable level. They can also minimize the spread of pest insects and disease and remove unwanted tree and plant species.Plus, they can create and maintain important wildlife habitats rich in grasses and promote the growth oftrees, wildflowers and other various plants. Many organizations and agencies work to promote fire on the landscape when and where appropriate.Smoky the Bear even has an updated warning:“Only You can Prevent Wildfires,” as the Forest Service has over the last few decades developed policies and procedures to include prescribed fire as a management tool,as well as continuing their work to prevent and fight wildfires.8.Why did the author mention Smoky the Bear’s warning?A.To introduce the topic of the passage.B.To clarify a misunderstood concept.C.To show the significance of fire prevention.D.To raise people’s awareness of forest protection.9.What can benefit birds according to Herbert Stoddard?A.Forest bushes.B.Fuel sources.C.Pine forests.D.Periodic burning.10.What is the purpose of prescribed fire?A.To put out wildfires.B.To keep the forest balance.C.To remove tree and plant species.D.To keep the fuel rich in the forest.11.What might be the best title for the passage?A.One Match Can Start A Forest FireB.Where There Is Smoke There Is A FireC.Not All Forest Fires Are Created EqualD.Why Not Keep The Forest Fire BurningDWhen I became president of Sustainable(可持续的) Spartans in May ,I had no idea how to successfully run a club on the Internet. My team and I were challenged with how to attract members and continue sustainable projects on campus while most students lived at home.Despite the circumstances,my incredible team and I pushed forward. We organized events members could participate in regardless of location.Instead of focusing on building a more sustainable campus,we thought it was more important to get more and more students to accept sustainability. In September, our Vermicomposting project began with the support from an online workshop.Vermicomposting is the process bywhich worms turn food waste and other materials into fertilizer. The workshop tied together club members and workshopstudents, educating and inspiring some to start their own worm bins at home.In October,we held our first SpartansPickUp Day,co-hosted with Spartans Sierra Club.Fourteen teams of students safely picked up trash and posted pictures online. The cooperation brought some environmental student organizations together and attracted more student participation. Our most notable accomplishment was working with the Office of Sustainability to build a pollinator (授粉者) garden on campus. The garden would improve the campus’ climate by attracting pollinators, increasing biodiversity and reducing soil loss.We posted some videos of the garden, and students were epus to visit it.Student organizations provide an important aspect of college life and I’m proud to say we’ve carried that into the digital space.Personally,I’ve discovered my club is an incredible outletfor me to dive into my sustainability passion and take a step back from the great stress of job search and online learning.I encourage all students to join a student organization to find how you can translate your passion into meaningful projects.12.What made it difficult for the author to do her work?ck of her team’s spiritual support.B.The absence of students on campus.C.The eental problems.D.Her inability to run sustainable projects.13.What was the focus of Sustainable Spartans in ?A.To create a safe living environment.B.To spread the idea of sustainability.C.To raise money for its future projects.D.To build a clean and beautiful campus.14.How did the author manage to carry out the projects?A.By attracting students back to the campus.B.By seeking financial help from authorities.C.By working with some other organizations.D.By gathering all students for some field trips.15.What does the author try to convey in the last paragraph?A.Leadership is the basis of success on campus.B.Cooperation is a quality everyone should have.C.Participating in sustainable projects is very easy.D.Joining student organizations really matters a lot.Ⅱ. Teach children to paint, and you will offer them a world of creativity that can last a life time.Start when children are young, and they will not feel Eating red meat is linked to cancer and heart disease, but are the risks big enough to justify giving up juicy burgers and delicious steaks? Probably not, according to researchers who reviewed data from 12 clinical trials involving about 54,000 people. In a series of controversial papers, the researchers argue that the increased health risks tied to red meat are small and uncertain, and that cutting back likely wouldn't be worth it for people who enjoy meat. Those conclusions go against established medical advice. They were swiftly attacked by a group of famous U.S. scientists who took the unusual step of trying to stop the papers from being published until their criticisms were addressed. The new work does not say red or processed meats like hot dogs and bacon are healthy, or that people should eat more of them. The team's reviews of past studies generally support the ties to cancer, heart disease and other bad health outcomes. But the authors say the evidence is weak, and that there's not much certainty meat is really the cause, since other diet and lifestyle factors could be at play.If the latest example of how divisive nutrition research has become, with its uncertainties leaving the door open for conflicting advice. Critics say findings often aren't backed by strong evidence. Defenders counter that nutrition studies can rarely be conclusive because of the difficulty of measuring the effects of any single food, but that methods have improved.Based on their analyses, the researchers said people do not have to cut back for health reasons. But they noted that their own advice is weak, and acknowledged that they didn't consider factors such as animal welfare and the environment. Indeed, the case that meat production is bad for animal welfare and the environment is stronger than the case that it's bad for human health, according to an editorial that accompanies the report. Not all of the report authors agreed with its conclusions. Three of the 14 researchers said they support reducing red and processed meats. A coauthor of one of the reviews is also among those who called for a publication delay. Those who pushed to postpone publication also questioned why certain studies were included in the reviews while others were left out.As for his own diet, Dr. Gordon Guyatt, a member of the international research team that conducted the reviews, said he no longer thinks red or processed meats have significant health risks. But he said he still avoids them out of habit, and for animal welfare and environmental reasons.(1)What is the author's purpose in writing the passage?A.To introduce a new relationship between health and eating red meat.B.To urge more people to keep away from eating red meat regularly.C.To present a new controversial view on impacts of eating red meat.D.To criticize nutrition studies for lacking of conclusive evidence.(2)What is the author's attitude towards the new research?A.Doubtful.B.Positive.C.Disapproving.D.Objective.(3)Guyatt's avoiding red meats has the weakest connection with_______.A.health risksB.diet habitsC.animal welfareD.environmental protection(4)What can we learn from the recent research?A.Red meats don't have significant health risks.B.Reducing meat consumption will be worth it.C.The report authors have reached a consensus.D.Consuming red meat will do good to health.【答案】(1)C(2)D(3)A(4)A【解析】【分析】本文是一篇议论文,作者对于吃红肉是否与癌症和心脏病有关引用了研究发现、结果、例子等客观数据和事实来写这篇文章。

Supported by the Ladies' Association in London for the promotion of female education in India and the East, she immediately took up the work of starting a girls' school for Chinese girls, which was soon followed by the opening of a boys' school.Mrs. Gutzlaff's comprador(买办) happened to come from my village and was actually my father's friend and neighbor. It was through him that my parents heard about Mrs. Gutzlaff's school and it was doubtlessly through his influence and means that my father got me admitted into the school. It has always been a mystery to me why my parents should put me into a foreign school, instead of a traditional Confucian school, where my big brother was placed. Most certainly such a step would have been more suitable for Chinese public opinion, taste, and the wants of the country, than to allow me to attend an English school. Moreover, a Chinese belief is the only avenue in China that leads to political promotion, influence, power and wealth. I can only guess that as foreign communication with China was just beginning to grow, my parents hoped that it might be worthwhile to put one of their sons to learning English. In this way he might become an interpreter and have a more advantageous position to enter the business and diplomatic world. I am wondering if that influenced my parents to put me into Mrs. Gutzlaff's School. As to what other sequences it has eventually brought about in my later life, they were entirely left in the hands of God.(1)How was the author admitted to Mrs. Gutzlaff's school?A. Through his father's friend's help.B. Through his own efforts to exams.C. Through his father's request.D. Through Mrs. Gutzlaff's influence.(2)Why did the author's parents put him into an English school?A. An English school was more influential.B. Foreign trade with China was developing fast.C. It met with Chinese public opinion.D. He could become a successful interpreter.(3)What did the author think of his parents' decision to put him into an English school?A. It was skeptical.B. It was mysterious.C. It was thoughtful.D.

From quiet paths by a stream in a forest to busy roads running through a city, people have created various forms of routes in different places. These now exist all around us, and their use is imperative for societies. These routes have enabled people to move, transport things, and send information from one place to another quickly and safely. Throughout history, they have been important in our daily lives.Early routes were often formed naturally on land. They gradually developed over long periods of time while people traveled them on foot or horseback. A significant turning point in their history arrived when the first wheeled carts appeared in ancient times. Once this happened, people recognized the importance of well-maintained routes. Therefore, towns, cities, and entire countries improved them. As a result, life became more convenient, communities grew, economies evolved, and cultures expanded.People have established routes on water, too. Rivers and canals have served as effective routes for people to move around and carry things. For instance, in the old, Japanese city of Edo, water routes were used for the transportation of agricultural products, seafood, and wood. People have also opened routes across the sea. The seaways were critical for the navigation of ships, particularly in the days when they moved mainly by wind power. Using these sea routes, people could travel great distances, and go to places they had not previously been able to reach.People have gone on to open routes in the sky as well. Since the invention of the airplane, they have made it possible to travel long distances easily. Eventually, people became able to travel safely and comfortably high in the sky, and going vast distances only took a small amount of time. Today, we have a new type of route, the Internet. By using this worldwide route, people can easily obtain information that once was available mainly from books and face-to-face communication. They can also instantly send messages to large numbers of people all at once.As long as there have been people, there have been routes to connect them. Currently unknown routes will surely take us even further in the future.(1)Which of the following is closest to the meaning of the underlined word imperative in paragraph 1?A.accidentalB.industrialC.essentialD.traditional(2)Why is the example of Edo introduced in paragraph 3?A.To describe the difficulty of creating routes on the water.B.To emphasize the fact that it was an important city.C.To explain the use of water routes to move along the coastlines.D.To illustrate the important roles of water routes for cities.(3)What does paragraph 5 tell us about routes?A.Routes can be thought of as existing invisibly in the world.B.Routes that move information can be regarded as dangerous.C.The fundamental functions of routes are declining.D.The importance of different kinds of routes is the same.(4)What is the main idea of this article?A.Humankind first created various types of convenient routes on land.B.Improvements in transportation have come at great cost.C.Technology has interfered with opening up routes around the world.D.The advancement of humanity was aided by the development of routes.【答案】(1)C(2)D(3)A(4)D【解析】【分析】本文是一篇说明文,介绍了从最初的陆路到水路和空路,再到如今的互联网,这些路线促进了人类的进步和社会的发展。

Part 2

It was a winter morning, just a couple of weeks before Christmas 2005. While most people were warming up their cars, Trevor, my husband, had to get up early to ride his bike four kilometers away from home to work. On arrival, he parked his bike outside the back door as he usually does. After putting in 10 hours of labor, he returned to find his bike gone. The bike, a black Kona 18 speed, was our only transport. Trevor used it to get to work, putting in 60-hour weeks to support his young family. And the bike was also used to get groceries(食品杂货),saving us from having to walk long distances from where we live.I was so sad that someone would steal our bike that I wrote to the newspaper and told them our story. Shortly after that, several people in our area offered to help. One wonderful stranger even bought a bike, and then called my husband to pick it up. Once again my husband had a way to get to and from his job. It really is an honor that a complete stranger would go out of their way for someone they have never met before.People say that a smile can be passed from one person to another, but acts of kindness from strangers are even more so. This experience has had a spreading effect in our lives because it strengthened our faith in humanity(人性) as a whole. And it has influenced us to be more mindful of ways we, too, can share with others. No matter how big or how small, an act of kindness shows that someone cares. And the results can be everlasting.1. One should take care of their bike.C. News reports make people famous.D. An act of kindness can mean a lot.

Kids will often ignore your requests for them to shut off the TV, start their chores(杂事),or do their homework as a way to avoid following your directions. Before you know it, you’ve started to sound like a broken record as you repeatedly ask them to do their assignments, clean their room, or take out the trash. Rather than saying “Do your chores now.” you’ll be more effective if you set a target time for when the chores have to be completed. So instead of arguing about starting chores, just say, “If chores aren’t done by 4 pm,here are the consequences.”Then it’ s up to your child to complete the chores.Put the ball back in their court. Don’t argue or fight with them, just say, “That’s the way it’s going to be.”It shouldn’t be punitive(惩罚性的)as much as it should be persuasive. “If your chores aren’t done by 4 pm, then no video game times until chores are done. And if finishing those chores runs into homework time, that’s going to be your loss.” On the other hand, when dealing with homework, keep it very simple. Have a time when homework starts, and at that time, all electronics go off and do not go back on until you see that their homework is done. If your kids say they have no homework, then they should use that time to study or read. Either way, there should be a time set aside when the electronics are off. When a kid wears his iPod or headphones when you’re trying to talk to him, make no bones about it;he is not ignoring you, he is disrespecting you. At that point, everything else should stop until he takes the earplugs out of his ears. Don’t try to communicate with him when he’s wearing headphones — even if he tells you he can hear you. Wearing them while you’re talking to him is a sign of disrespect. Parents should be very tough about this kind of thing. Remember, mutual respect becomes more important as children mature.1.According to the passage, it seldom happens that ________.A.kids turn a deaf ear to their parents’ requestsB.parents’ directions sound like a broken recordC.children are ready to follow their parents’ directionsD.parents are unaware of what they are repeating to their kids2.Parents will be able to deal with their children more effectively if they ________.A.avoid direct ways of punishment B.make them do things at their request C.argue and fight with their children D.allow their children to behave in their own way3.When the kid is doing his homework, parents ________.A.should provide him with a good learning environmentB.can do whatever they likeC.can stay aside watching TVD.must switch off the power4.It can be inferred from the passage that ________.A.parents should take off his headphones when trying to have a talk with their childB.it will make no difference that a kid is wearing his earplugs while talking to his parentsC.parents shouldn’t give in to their kid when he shows no sign of respect D.kids’ purposely talking to their parents with iPod gives them a sense of power 5.The main idea of the passage is ________.A.that respecting each other is more important than anything elseB.how kids behave to ignore and disrespect their parentsC.that children should make choices and decisions on their ownD.how parents can deal with their kids’ behavior effectively[答案及解析] 1—5CAACD1.
