Step 1: 预习课文
1.用15分钟阅读,粗通课文的大意,回答下面的问题。

Step 2: 学习重点单词
1. suggest vt. 提议,建议
I suggested going for a walk.
我建议去散步。
拓展:suggest作“建议”讲,后接名词、动名词、从句作宾语。
其后的宾语从句用虚拟语气,即谓语动词的结构是“(should+)动词原形”。
2. flesh n. [U]肉,肉体in the flesh 本人亲身
Tigers are flesh eating animals.
虎是食肉动物。
拓展:
(1)辨析:flesh 是指(人体的)肉、(果实的)果肉和(蔬菜的)叶肉。
muscle 人体肌肉。
meat 是供人们食用的肉,但不包括鱼、禽的肉。
pork“猪肉”,beef “牛肉”,mutton“羊肉”,fish“鱼肉”,duck“鸭肉”,chicken“鸡肉”等。
(2)搭配:gain flesh/weight=put on flesh/weight“发胖,长肉”;lose flesh/weight “变瘦”。
汉语中的“血肉之躯”用英语表达是“flesh and blood ”。
3. historical adj. 历史的,有关历史的
Let's look at this from a historical standpoint.
让我们从历史的观点来看待这一切。
拓展:historical 和historic辨析
historical意思是“历史的,历史学的”,是指不管重要与否而在过去存在的所有事物,也指与历史或过去的研究有关的事物。
The film is based on historical events.
这部电影是根据历史事件拍摄的。
historic 指“历史上有重要意义的”、“历史上有名的”,也用于形容那些因与历史事件或人物有联系而有名或有趣的事物。
October 1st 1949 is a historic day.
1949年10月1日是个具有历史意义的日子。
4. imagine vt. 想象(接名词、动名词、从句作宾语)
I imagine you are tired from the journey.
我想你旅途劳累了。
拓展:imagination n. 想象;想象力
What she has in mind is beyond imagination.
她心中所构思的超乎人们的想象。
imaginative adj. 想象的,唤起想象力的
The plan is very imaginative in conception.
这个计划在构思上很有想象力。
5. pack vt. &vi. 收拾(行李),打包
We will leave tomorrow but I haven't begun to pack yet!
我们明天动身,但我现在还没开始收拾行李呢!
拓展:pack sth. into someplace=pack someplace with sth. 把……装入……
pack sb.sth.=pack sth. for sb.给某人装入……
Step 3: 学习重点句子
1. Just think, if we had virtual reality holidays, we wouldn't have any problems with the weather.
请想一想,如果我们有了虚拟现实的假期,我们将不会在天气方面有什么麻烦。
解析:本句用了与现在相反的、表假设的虚拟语气,条件从句中谓语动词用过去时态,主句中谓语动词用“would+动词原形”。
本文中多次出现虚拟语气句子,如:
What's more,we wouldn't have to spend a long time travelling on planes to get to our holiday destinations.
还有,我们将不必为了度假而在飞机上待很长时间了。
2. What's more, we wouldn't have to spend a long time travelling on planes to get to our holiday destinations.
另外,我们不必坐长时间的飞机去度假目的地。
解析:we wouldn't have to...是虚拟语气,是承接if we had virtual holiday而言的。
3. We would not only be able to travel around the world,but also go to study in any world famous universities we wanted to.
我们不仅能周游世界,而且还能到我们所想要去的任何一所世界名牌大学学习。
解析:not only...but also是一个并列连词,所连接的两部分必须一致,连接动词时,动词的时态、语态须一致。
如:
We should not only be brave, but also be careful.
我们不仅要大胆,而且要仔细。
not only...but also...连接并列的主语时,主谓一致采用就近原则。
如:
Not only the door but the windows are open.(连接并列主语)
不仅门开着,窗户也开着。
Step 4: 条件状语从句
条件状语从句可分为两种:真实条件句和非真实条件句/虚拟条件句。
真实条件句意味着句中的动作很可能发生。
两种从句的重点都在于时态搭配。
主句和从句的先后次序无关紧要。
1.真实条件句
(1)if从句:一般现在时(表将来),主句:一般将来时will do...
I will buy it if the price is fair.
如果价格公平,我会买下它。
(2)if从句:一般现在时,S.+情态动词+V.
If your documents are in order, you may/can leave at once.
如果你的证明文件都齐备了你可以马上就走。
(3)if从句:一般现在时,祈使句
If you want to lose weight, eat less bread.
如果你想减肥,少吃面包。
注意:在真实条件句中,主句不能用be going to表示将来,该用shall, will。
(错)If you leave now, you are never going to regret it.
(对)If you leave now, you will never regret it.
(4)表示真理时,主句谓语动词便不用shall(will)+动词原形,而直接用一般现在时的动词形式。
如:
If you heat ice, it turns to water.
如果把冰加热,它就化成水。
