Companionship of Books Samuel Smiles

A man may usually be known by the books he reads as well as

by the company he keeps; for there is a companionship of books as well as of men; and one should always live in the best company, whether it be of books or of men.

Books possess an essence of immortality. They are by far the most lasting products of human effort. Temples and statues

decay, but books survive. Time is of no account with great

thoughts, which are as fresh today as when they first passed

through their author’s minds ages ago. What was then said and

thought still speaks to us as vividly as ever from the printed

page. The only effect of time has been to sift out the bad prod

ucts; for nothing in literature can long survive but what is

really good.

一个人读怎样的书和交怎样的朋友通常映射出他是怎样的人。因为他和书和人之间都有一层友谊关系。而且人应该活于最好的陪伴下，不管是书还是人。

书籍拥有不朽的本质。它们是人类勤劳最持久的产物。寺庙，雕塑都会腐朽，书籍却能保存。时间与伟大的思想无关。这些思想至今仍旧很新奇，就和多年前它们第一次经过作家们的头脑一样。那是所讲和所想对于我们来说和以前一样生动。时间唯一的作用就是筛选选出劣质的产品。

除了真正优质的，没有任何东西可以再文学界中长存。

“家”是一只瓷碗

现代的“家”并不缺乏爱情，而是缺乏包容和珍惜。

妻子洗碗时失手打碎了一只碗，丈夫说一句：“怎么搞的，一只碗都拿不牢。”妻子不服气，顶一句：“一只碗值几毛钱，也值得你

心疼半天，怎么不心疼我割破了手？”丈夫一听来气了：“你这人怎

么这样无理，做错了事说你一句都不成。”妻子便一蹦老高：“我又

不是你家的保姆，凭什么要让你说，你也有手有脚，你怎么不洗碗？”

丈夫一拍桌子：“你这人简直不可理喻，胡搅蛮缠。”女的一叉腰：

“我就这么蛮，你怎么着？当初怎么不把眼睛睁大点！怎么啦，后

悔啦，又想起先前的小情人了吧……”话音未落，男的一杨手，“呼”

的一巴掌甩过去。女的捂着脸：“你这个畜生，你竟敢打我，老娘不

跟你过了。我要离婚！”“离就离，吓唬谁呢？”

第二天，真离了。就这么简单。一个家庭的毁灭，就如一只瓷碗，只是不经意地一摔，便碎了。

许多家庭的毁灭，往往就是缘于这种貌似潇洒貌似现代的轻率和冲动。家是一只瓷碗，拥有这只瓷碗的人便有了生存的“凭

据”。这碗里虽然只是粗茶淡饭，但也足以营养人之一生，因而这

只瓷碗就值得人们好生爱惜。瓷碗易碎，毁之极易，成之艰难，

即使我们有回天之术，可以将破碎的瓷碗重新粘合，但那一定是

一件呕心沥血、异常简单的苦差事。并且粘合之后，那曾经破碎

的痕迹也许就是永远也不能消弭的疤痕。

Family Is a Porcelain Bowl

Mordern family does not lack love,but forgiveness and cherish. The wife broke a bowl carelessly while washing dishes,

____“How does it happen? You can not hold a bowl?” her husband said. ____“How much does a bowl value that takes you so much careness? Why do not care a little about my injured fingers?”the wife could not stand what he said.

____“How unreasonable you are! Can＇t I point it out when you are wrong?”the husband got angry after hearing this.

____“I am not your nurse, why do you always point finger to me? You are capable for everything else,why can＇t you doing any washing ?”the wife got more angry .

____“You are really mad and unreasonable !”the husband slaped the desk and said.

____“I am really what you said.Then what ? Why not clean your mind before? Do you regret marrying me now ? or do you recall your previous cute lover …”the woman put her handset on either side of her waist and said .

Before she finished her words,the man lifted his hand and slapped across her cheek .

____“You hit me ? You are such a beast ! I can not live with you any longer .i want divorce.”the woman covered face with her hand and shouted out. _____“Go ahead !”

It really comes true the next day . It is so easy to like this. A family can be destroyed like a bowl which easily can be broken into pieces with a careless drop. Such a kind of unrestrained and modernize rashness and impulsion always become the reason to lead many families into destruction .Family is a bowl and the one who owns the bowl ,then he has the faith to live.Although the bowl is only a simple diet, it can provide everything for one’s whole life.It is worth cherishing sincerely by everyone. Porcelain bowl is easy to be broken.Easy to be broken into pieces but hard to be made.Even if we have magical power and can conglomerate the broken bowl again,it must be a hard and an unusual simple job that
