盂兰盆节已经成为日本特有的祭奠祖先、祈福的节日,有其独自的特点。 日本人过盂兰盆节的气氛静谧、庄重。对阴魂来说,这是阎罗王一年一 度放假的时候,也是他们能回家与家人重逢的日子。在当年过世且已过 七七的阴魂,第一次归家称为“初盆”或“新盆”,家人要特别郑重地 迎接,门口或坟墓上都悬挂纯白灯笼,且通常会在8月12日傍晚至13日上 午,在佛龛灵牌前献上供品,13日傍晚再于玄关前点上盆灯笼。最后在 大门口或玄关前搁一只沙锅,沙锅内燃烧麻杆,以迎接自阴间回来的阴 魂。日本人称之为“迎火”。16日再重复一次,将先人阴魂送回阴间。 其为“送火”。
