My grandparents always watch the evening news on TV.; 2. I often play basketball with my friends.; 3. I usually study my notes first.; 4. They seldom have the time. Diagram the sentences with your students. Point to the first sentence and ask "Which is the subject of the sentence? Who does the action?" Elicit and underline My grandparents. Elicit and underline the subjects for the other sentences: 2. I; 3. I; 4. They. Then ask "What is the verb in the first sentence?" Elicit and circle watch.Elicit and circle the verbs for the other sentences: 2. play; 3. study; 4.have. Ask "What are these words between the subjects and the verbs?"Elicit adverbs of frequency. Point out that adverbs of frequency can e between the subject of the sentence and the verb. Explain that there are some other places where adverbs of frequeney can e in a sentence. If you feel your students are ready to do the exercise, you may skip thisstep.➢Direct students to the Sentence Builder chart. Give students a few moments to look at the sentences. As an alternate approach, you may wish to have your students do a mingle, walking around the room, asking the questions in the survey, instead of having students do it individually.➢When students have finished, take a poll of the results of the class and write them on the board.
