My grandparents always watch the evening news on TV.; 2. I often play basketball with my friends.; 3. I usually study my notes first.; 4. They seldom have the time. Diagram the sentences with your students. Point to the first sentence and ask "Which is the subject of the sentence? Who does the action?" Elicit and underline My grandparents. Elicit and underline the subjects for the other sentences: 2. I; 3. I; 4. They. Then ask "What is the verb in the first sentence?" Elicit and circle watch.Elicit and circle the verbs for the other sentences: 2. play; 3. study; 4.have. Ask "What are these words between the subjects and the verbs?"Elicit adverbs of frequency.
