Duke University was founded in 1838, originally was a branch of Brown College, managed by Methodist believers and Quaker believers who led by a priest Brantley

York. In 1892 and 1924, Duke University received two donations of Duke and his son, provided funding for Duke University's new campus and teaching facilities. With the consent of son Duke, Chairman of the Trinity College of William Preston Few changed the name of the school to Duke University for thanking the kindness of the Duke family.

The School in the 1920s rebuilt the east campus, and constructed the West Campus with Gothic architectural style. The most famous building was Duke Cathedral costing $ 2.3 million. In 1942, Duke hosted the only time the Rose Bowl NCAA finals outside Los Angeles. In the World War II School also hosted the V-12 Navy College Training Program project training personnel for US Navy.
