The Power of Perseverance in the Face ofChallengesIn the journey of life, we are constantly faced with various challenges that test our resolve and perseverance. The English composition prompt from the 2012 National College Entrance Examination, which focused on the significance of perseverance in overcoming obstacles, highlights the importance of this valuable quality. This essay explores the essence of perseverance, its role in overcoming challenges, and the lessons we can learn from persevering in the face of adversity.Perseverance is the steadfastness in doing something despite difficulty or delay in achieving success. It is the spirit that drives us to continue despite setbacks and failures. In the world of sports, for instance, perseverance is what separates the champions from the rest. It is the relentless training, the never-give-up attitude, that brings success to athletes. Similarly, in our daily lives, perseverance is the key to overcoming obstacles and achieving our goals. One of the most striking examples of perseverance is Thomas Edison's journey in inventing the light bulb. He faced numerous failures and setbacks, but his perseverance and determination to succeed did not falter. He famously said, "I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work." His perseverance paid off in the end, as he succeeded in inventing the light bulb that revolutionized the world. However, perseverance does not mean stubbornly sticking to one path without considering alternatives. It also involves learning from failures and adjusting ourstrategies when necessary. Perseverance is about findingthe right path and staying committed to it, even when faced with obstacles and challenges. In the context of the 2012 National College Entrance Examination, perseverance is an essential quality for students as they prepare for the exam. The exam itself is a challenge that requires months of preparation and hard work. Students must persevere in their studies, overcoming difficulties and staying focused on their goals. Onlythrough perseverance can they hope to achieve their desired results. Moreover, perseverance teaches us valuable life lessons. It teaches us that success does not come easily and that we must work hard to achieve our goals. It teaches us to stay committed to our objectives, even when faced withdifficulties and setbacks. Perseverance also helps us develop resilience, the ability to bounce back from failure and learn from our mistakes. In conclusion, perseverance is a crucial quality that helps us overcome challenges and achieve our goals. It is the driving force that propels us forward, despitedifficulties and setbacks. As we face the challenges oflife, let us remember the power of perseverance and applyit to every aspect of our lives. By persevering, we can achieve remarkable success and learn valuable life lessons that will benefit us throughout our journey.**坚持不懈的力量**在人生的旅途中,我们不断面临各种挑战,这些挑战考验着我们的决心和毅力。

compared with the forty year old shabby dormitory i am living in now, the one i lived in for three years in high school was heaven: three students shared one brand new suite with air conditioners and a bathroom.in three years time we changed it thoroughly:the color of the floor turned from bright pink into muddy gray, and the closet a hive of insects proliferating among piles of rotten fruit.and our masterpiece was the bathroom, a never drying swamp which served as the habitat of various kinds of mold, and even rodents, rats would occasionally take the trouble to pay us a visit, and.., all three of us felt like sobbing when we at last had to say good bye to our lovely filthy dormitory. maybe it is because that the dormitory had changed us as well as we'd changed it.the first lesson our dormitory taught us was to look after ourselves. frankly speaking, we were not good students at all. istill remember the underwear that was soaked in soapy water for one and a half years before it was finally thrown away. almost each of the boys' dormitories had gradually developed its own unique "fragrance" usually a mixture of rotten fruit, unwashed socks, stunk towels and some junk food. we could tell one dormitory from another by sniffing instead of looking. our tolerance towards untidiness was amazing.however, in spite of all this, we really did make some progress. bit by bit, we started to wash dirty clothes before they stunk, cleaned the garbage bin when it could hold no more trash, we even used brushes in a not-sc-successful attempt to refurbish the floor. the point was that we were not obeying any order, we did every bit of the cleaning for ourselves, because we wanted to live in a better place. though nothing we did could be called an achievement, it was the first time we fully bore the consequences of our behavior, and took the responsibility. thus it was not surprising that i often found myself the only one to clean up my university dormitory which looked no better than a garbage bin when my roommates felt normal of it.when talking about our dormitory life, and probably all the dormitory life, we should never leave out one thing. this waswhat we called "bed talks". though it was considered "illegal,"there was nothing to stop us from deliberately starting a heated discussion right after lights were out. it was our favorite and the only way of ending our day, and we were as punctual for it as our parents are for work. what was the most common topic?girls, of course! what other topics were there for three energetic adolescent males lying comfortably in bed? we judged them, ranked them, argued over them night after night without feeling the slightest sense of boredom for three whole years. were we maniacs? who is not a maniac at eighteen?of course, there were other things we talked about. i still remember one night six of us squeezed ourselves in the most uncomfortable posture onto three beds and held a "conference" discussing whether we should carry out an "impeachment" with our monitor the following day. it was not that he was troubled in any sort of scandal, but that we were just so disappointed at his work. by one o'clock in the morning, we finally came to a conclusion that included two major points. first, we could not reach an agreement on what our monitor's problems really were, because everyone had his own opinion. second, we could think of nobody suitable to substitute him.from the next day on the six idealistic extremists turned into pragmatic realists. we signed a peace treaty with life, and as to our monitor, he turned out to be the best one in school.i assume that this is how those "bed talks" changed us. ask any psychiatrist and you'll know (because this is exactly what they do to their patients) that to lie comfortably in bed is the only way to make someone open his mind. therefore during bed talks we were able to touch the most intrinsic part of each other, and scrutinize the details of a totally different mind. i was amazed at realizing the great difference among people in terms of their ways of thinking, and the diversity of personalities. this changed our attitudes toward others, and made us more under standing than ever.if you ask me, among all the bed talks, which one gave me the deepest impression, i would say it was that night when i insisted that louis was the prettiest girl in our class and jerry said he would rather die than agree with me. now after three years jerry is dating louis and i am still single. what a quack! frankly, i could hardly think of anything particularly special about dormitory life. there was never such a thing that had a dramatic impact on me. all that occurred to me were bits of trivial memories, such as the tears of lance after he wasrefused by a girl, the grotesque expressions on james's face when he finally got his pills for stomach ache after staying for half an hour with the school doctor who was notorious for his loquacity, and the night when jerry dragging a broken leg hopped all the way back with an arm around my neck... these may mean nothing to outsiders, but to my roommates and me they are priceless. it was exactly through these trivial things that we grew and matured. by the time we had to say good bye to our dormitory, we all knew that we were no longer the kids of there three years before. we all knew that this precious period of time would never come back again since we were all changed by the dormitory, and because of that, we all felt like sobbing.。

Dear Editor,As a student reader, I am writing to talk about the English textbooks published by your house. These books have many advantages. One of them is that we can find a variety of topics, such as science, culture and history. These topics, 1 think, arc very popular with us students. What's more, along with the texts there are many beautiful and colorful pictures, which can help us understand English better. Even the students who used to dislike English have turned out to be interested in the subject. However, some of the texts have too many new words and expressions which are hard for us. Therefore, I'd like to suggest changing them into easier ones.Best regards!Yours,Li Hua假定你是李华,从互联网(the Internet)上得知一个国际中学生组织将在新加坡(Singapore)举办夏令营,欢迎各国学生参加。

2012的英语高考作文I remember the day I first learned to ride a bike. It was a sunny afternoon and my dad was holding onto the backof the seat, running alongside me. I was so scared at first, but as I pedaled faster and faster, I felt a sense of freedom and exhilaration that I had never experienced before. The best vacation I ever had was when my family went to Hawaii. The beaches were beautiful, the weather was perfect, and we got to try so many new and exciting activities like surfing and snorkeling. I will never forget the feeling of lying on the warm sand, listening to the waves crashagainst the shore. One of my biggest fears is public speaking. Every timeI have to give a presentation in front of a group of people, my heart starts racing and my palms get sweaty. I know it's irrational, but I just can't seem to shake the feeling of dread that comes over me whenever I have to speak in public.I love to cook, especially baking desserts. 假设你班同学苏华和李江打篮球时发生争执,导致关系紧张。

请你结合此事,并根据以下提示,用英语写一篇短文,向学校英文报“Happy Teens”专栏投稿。

参考范文:Conflict with others are common in everyday life.During the basketball game yesterday afternoon, Su Hua and Li Jiang bumped into each other, tring to catch the ball. Then they started shouting and yelling, and it turned into a horrible quarrel. To be honest, it was Su's fault but Li was also to be blame—they were not calm enough and both said some really mean things. They eared too much about winning and losing. As a matter of fact, blocking ,pushing and bumping are just part of a tough game.To avoid such conflict, we should be kind to one another, which is essential to enjoying a harmonious life. It is aslo a virtue to forgive and forget, especially in such a competitive and stressful society. Instead of blaming each other, we should communicate more and put camly and other's place.Don't be self-centered and try to be considerate. We must learn to handle conflicts calmly and wisely.3.

The instant the bell indicating the endof the last class rang, out of the classroompoured all students but one。

Unlikemy peers, Iwas in no hurry tomake a run for the school canteen, to rushthrough lunch and to return to the classroomfor homework. I arrived at the canteenwhen amassive queue had formed.Waitingformy turn patiently, I smelled the aroma ofthe appetizing food. Greasy as some dishesmight be, thewide range of food preparedby the schoolwas superior in nutritional val-ue to that found elsewhere。

The typical schedule of a highschooleris extraordinarily hectic and thus lunch breakis a rare timewhen overworked students canwind down and enjoy the pleasure providedby the flavorful food. Imake it a point topampermy taste buds by savoring every littlebit of taste in food. What I usually like todo over lunch is have amindless conversa-tionwith a couple of studentswho have alsolearnt to smell the roses alongthe bonebreaking journey through high school. Werounded off our lunch with a dessert, re-freshed and satisfied。

Come to think of it, it is not the foodbutmy attitude towards life that affordsmepleasure and empowersme in facing up tovarious challenges。
