Q1: What management skill do you think would be most important for Howard Schultz to have? Why? What skill do you think would be most important for a Starbucks store manager to have? Why?Conceptual Skill would be the most important skill for Howard Schultz to have and as we can see Schultz already had those skills. When he went to Italy and saw espresso bar it was his conceptual skills that led him to the idea of introducing coffee bars in America. It was his conceptual skills that led him to identify the opportunity. And it is the conceptual skills that lead managers to take advantage of opportunities and oppose threats as well as make good business decisions and lead him to innovation. Human and Technical Skills would be the most important for a store manager because he is indirect contact with employees. By Human skills he is able to work well with other people individually and in a group and by technical skills he can guide people under his supervision to efficiently perform specific tasks.Q2: How might the following management theories/approaches be useful to Starbucks: Scientific Management, Organizational Behavior, Quantitative approach, System Approach? SCIENTIFIC MANAGEMENT: It is concerned with improving the performance of individual worker and finding the best way to do particular task. Starbucks coffee producing department is the place where scientific management theory can be applicable where they can divide and distribute jobs and find out the best way of performing tasks in order to improve production efficiency. ORGANIZATIONAL BEHAVIOUR: It is the field of study concerned with the actions or behavior of people at work.Organizational Behavior theory can be useful for Starbucks in the following ways:1) Quality Service: For any retail store or operation requires high quality employees, since the employees are in direct link to the customers and latter personifies the brand. Hence using organizational behavior approach Starbucks can improve the quality and efficiency of their employees.2) Lower Turnover: Starbucks thorough unique and flexible working environment is probably faced with lower turnover rates.3) Flexible Work Environment: The apparently flexible work environment for Starbucks encourages employees to be innovative, creative and to take chance.SYSTEM APPROACH: System can be defined as a set of interrelated components with clearly define boundaries working together to achieve an objective by performing three main functions such as input, processing and output.Using the system approach it is important for Starbucks departments to work together as one unit. For example if the marketing and production department don’t work in collaboration with each other Starbucks as a whole organization would suffer. Also using the system approach Starbucks must be aware of the environment its working in. For example if the company opens an outlet in another country it must be aware of the government rules and regulations and also the taste and trends of society there.QUANTATIVE APPROACH: It involves applications of statistics, optimization models, information models and computer simulations to management activities.Quantities approach can be useful in the following ways:1) Price: Starbucks can judge the amount of price to be charged on a product if the price is high then no one will buy the product and if it’s low then the business won’t be able to maximize its profits.2) Customer Preferences: It can conduct and analyze surveys abou t customer’s likes and dislikes. This will help the business in improving their product, services and surrounding atmosphere.3) Sales Analysis: Starbucks can conduct sales analysis which can help them in forecasting future sales and allocate required resources and also help them in budgeting.Q3: Choose three of the current trends and issues facing managers and explain how Starbucks might be impacted. What might be the implications for first line managers? Middle managers? Top managers? The three trends and issues are as follows:ENTREPRENEURSHIP: Nowadays, businesses have become more competitive. So in order to survive in this competitive environment, the manager should have entrepreneurship skills. These skills includes1. Looking for Opportunities2. Innovation3. GrowthDue to these skills, Starbucks has excelled and reached to the height of success. Starbucks focused on growth i.e. the reason they have been able to expand to 11,000 outlets in 36countries. They also introduced many innovations in their product line. It is mostly implicated on top line managers as they are the ones who make major business decisionsWORKFORCE DIVERSITY: A workforce that’s heterogeneous in terms of gender, race, ethnicity, age and other characteristics that reflects differences.Starbucks operates in many countries; therefore it consists of diverse workforce. So as manager it is necessary to be well-acquainted with the diverse backgrounds of individuals in order to manage its workforce effectively. It is most applicable for the first line managers because they are the ones who are in direct contact with employees.LEARNING ORGANIZATIONS: Learning organizations that has developed the capacity to continuously learn adapt and change. In Starbucks black apron displaying the little "coffee master" are worn by employees who have completed the coffee master course, which shows that Starbucks conducts many programs to enhance the knowledge of workers. This implies mostly to middle level managers as they are ones who are responsible for meeting the goals set by top level managers by managing the workforce which includes enhancing their learning and knowledge.Q4: Give examples of how Howard Schultz might perform the interpersonal roles, the informational roles, and decisional roles.INTERPERSONAL ROLES: Involves people and other duties that are symbolic in nature.Schultz, as a figurehead, can be the greeting visitor, signing legal documents. He would attend ribbon cutting ceremonies for new plants. He could be a leader responsible for motivating subordinates and staffing, training. He could also coordinate activities of various project works. INFORMATIONAL ROLES: Schultz can perform this role by monitoring reports, holding informational meetings, making phone calls to rely information, holding board meetings, giving information to media DECISIONAL ROLES: Roles that revolve around making decisions and choices.Schultz could organize strategies and review sessions to develop new programs. Develop new ideas for innovation. He could be responsible for representing the organization on major negotiations. Be involved in allocation of resources of all kinds.Q5: Look at Howard Schultz philosophy of Starbucks. How will this affect the way company mismanaged? The Schultz philosophy for Starbucks; "We aren't in the coffee business serving people. We are in people business serving coffee. At first businesses used to focus on products. But with the passage of time businesses have realized that their main purpose is serving the people. Schultz philosophy has shaped and continues to shape the company. The company is now more focused on the five C's:community, connection, caring, committed and coffee. Now the company doesn’t only focus on producing coffee rather all its activities are now driven to provide customer satisfaction by giving them quality service and understand and meeting their needs, tastes and preferences.Q6Troy Alstead is chief operating officer for Starbucks Corporation, responsible for overseeing day-to-day operations of the enterprise and its family of brands around the world, reporting to Starbucks chairman, president and ceo Howard Schultz. Work content:1.Overall responsibility for the operation and management of the company's market2.Participation in the company's overall planning, improve the system of the company, improve the management of the company's operations3.Promote the company's sales, to promote the company's products, organization'soverall business plan4.Establish internal information systems, promoting corporate finance, administration, human resources management5.Responsible for coordinating the work of various departments, the establishment ofeffective mechanisms for teamwork.6.To maintain and to develop external relationships.Q7) what do you think of the company guiding principles? Describe how the company’s guiding principles would influence how a barista at a local Starbucks store does his or her job. How these principle would influence how one of the company s top executives does his or her job. Answer: Starbucks guiding principle clearly describes the mission and purpose of Starbucks existence. They describe that Starbucks is not just selling Coffee and earning profit, Starbucks isall about providing people with a second place between their home and work where they can enjoy quality coffee and a sense of community life. It is a place where the employees are not just employees but defined as Partners in business. Every partner of the company understands that hero she represents Starbucks. Employees act as if the Starbucks franchise was their own business, Starbucks accepts and embraces diversity from various regions and motivate employees, no matter from where they belong.“We aren’t in the coffee business, serving people. We’re in the people business, serving coffee”“We know that our people are the heart and soul of our success.”That’s the philosophy of Howard Schultz that has shaped and continues to shape the company. The six guiding principles of Starbucks or we can say the six pillars for the success of Starbucks also puts a lot of emphasizes on customer satisfaction and treating their partners (employees) well and fulfilling their corporate social responsibility. Their guiding principles clearly reflect their philosophy. The important thing that Starbucks realizes is that they can be extremely profitable and competitive and at the same time be respected for treating their employees well. Think that these are the guiding principles that can be and should be applied to all the businesses. These are the six keys to success for any organization if applied. These guiding principles affect barista’s (bartenders) working at Starbucks in a positive manner. This influences barista to deal positively with customers. As the guiding principles state that: “Develop enthusiastically satisfied customers all of the time.” So he will ensure to provide the best quality service in order to satisfy the customer each and every time. Also another guiding principle:“Provide a great work environment and treat each other with respect and dignity.” This guides him to treat his fellow employees well and to treat them with equal respect and dignity. These principles guide top management to maintain high moral among employees and ensure greater customer satisfaction. And realize their responsibility towards the environment and society and assume responsibility for their actions and to contribute positively towards the community. These principles would also lead the top management to embrace diversity as an essential component.Q8) Do you think Howard Schultz views his role more from the omnipotent or from the symbolic perspective? Explain. Answer: The Role of Schultz in Starbucks was more of an “Omnipotent”onebecause he was the one who lead the organization towards its goals. He was directly responsible for the major decisions making. His vision and ideas clearly reflect what Starbucks working principles are and his values continues to shape what Starbucks is now.He gave the basic principles around which revolves the whole organization. His ideas about the great work environment, diversity and higher standards of excellence, providing a second home to his customers resulted in the phenomenal success of Starbucks and it vividly shows that he was directly responsible for its success and failure. We cannot say that Howard Schultz views his management roles as being completely omnipotent or symbolic, his view also shows glimpses of a symbolic view. As he claims that “We know our people are the heart and soul of our success.” He totally relies on their employees as he calls them partners in business. He believes that a strongly and knowledgeable workforce can be the reason for the company’s success. Also we can observe th at despite of not liking the process of legislative lobbying for lowering of trade barriers and health befits cost personally he wentforward with it because it could prove beneficial for the company’s future.Q9) what has made Starbucks culture what it is? How is that culture maintained?Answer: The culture of Starbucks is a combination of written and unwritten values, beliefs and codes of behavior which influence employees to perform their duties and the way they behave with people (employees & customers) in the organization. The culture of Starbucks is greatly influence by the three founders of Starbucks & Howard Schultz, theirmission, vision and their values as coffee business was their passion. Its culture encourages innovation and risk taking isles aggressive, predicatively stable and highly customer oriented. Starbuck treat employees as their partners and employees are also given training for 24 hours, to properly educate them about Starbucks guiding principles and ethical codes, when they join Starbucks initially and this practice has become part of their culture.Starbucks maintained their culture by:Communicating their culture to their employees (partners). The behavior of top management clearly reflects the beliefs and values of the founders, their ethical values and communal beliefs and sets examples for the employeesKeeping track of employees consistent with organization culture. When new recruitment take place those people are given preference who share same values as that of organization.Q.10) Does Starbucks encourage a customer responsive culture? An ethical culture? Explain. Answer: Starbucks highly encourages “Customer responsive culture.”Theybelieve that customers are the heart and soul of their success. They give preference to their customers by creating such an environment where their needs and wants are considered and fulfilled. They work for the satisfaction of their customers. They hire the employees (customer service people) who are very outgoing and vivacious. They are extrovert and can treat the customers nicely.Employees are given powers and full freedom to take their decisions. They should have good listening skills to listen and understand the messages sent by the customers and to make them more responsive.Starbucks also takes itsethical commitmentsVery seriously. Starbucks believes in contributing and developing the communities wherever it operates and making the world a better place to live in. Each top level manager signs a “code of ethics” that affirms his commitment to stakeholders‘interests. All store employees (partners) have resources to help them doing their jobs ethically and the company created a process for employees to raise complaints and concerns they may have over questionable accounting and an internal accounting control.Q11) Describe some of the specific and general environmental components that are likely to impact Starbucks?Answer: Components that effect Starbucks environment are:Specific Environmenti) Customers:Customers are very important to Starbucks and they can influence Starbucks if their needs and taste changes or their income falls.ii) Suppliers:Supplies provide material and equipment to stars bucks. They can also influence Starbucks if their barraging power increases. Starbucks have to maintain good relationship with their suppliers. iii) Competitors:Competitors can also impact Starbucks if competitor provides better quality products at low price and have more varieties of products than Starbucks.General Environmenti) Economic Conditions:Economic condition also impact Starbucks adversely. If inflationary pressure rises the price of raw materials will rise. If interest rate rises, or if the disposable income of consumer fell it will also create adverseness.ii) Political/Legal Conditions:Political and legal conditions can also effect Starbucks. This could be increase in taxes by government, ban imposed by government on import of certain raw materials, any unfavorable condition i.e. political uncertainties.iii)Technological Conditions:Technological updates may also affect Starbucks. This include introduction of new technology in coffee making which is quick and inexpensive while providing the same excellence in quality level.Q12. How would you classify the uncertainty of the environment in which Starbucks operate? ExplainAnswer: The term environment refers to both the internal and the external forces that affect the organizations performance in a direct or an indirect manner. Environmental uncertainty is the degree of change and complexity in the organizations environment. If we analyze the environment of Starbucks we will observe that Starbucks faces less number of emerging new competitors and the environment is subject to steady change as Starbucks continues to grow its operations and faces few technological and social upheavals from the many components of its environment. Also to be the best in the market, it requires great deal of environmental knowledge to know about customer’s tastes and preference and the availability of quality sources of coffee beans and their producers. The analysis of the above facts leads us to conclude that Starbucks environment is more of a Stable and Complex nature.Q13. What stakeholders do you think that Starbucks might be most concerned with and why? What issues might each of these want Starbucks to address?Answer:“Every day, we go to work hoping to do two things: Share great coffee with our friends and help make the world a little better. It was true when the first Starbucks opened in 1971, and it’s just as true today. “Howard Schultz’sStakeholders of an organization can be defined as persons, groups, organizations, or systems which affects or can be affected by an organization's actions. The Government of the place where the organization is doing business, shareholders, creditors, customers, employees etc. are some of its examples. If we consider the words of Howard Schultz we will realize that the primaryconcern of Starbucks is not just selling coffee but providing quality, values and sense of belonging to its customers while positively contributing towards the betterment of society. The essence of Starbucks business is its customers and the key to happy customers is happy and satisfied employees. Starbucks refers to its employees as Partners implying that they are equally responsible for the success of Starbucks as its owners. At Starbucks its employees are treated with respect, care and dignity which translates automatically into customers getting better than the best at Starbucks and also in turn they work voluntarily in the community development programs and services, dedicated to the betterment of society at large, taking place wherever Starbucks operates. Its stakeholders might want Starbucks to address the issues which every organization faces like working with ethics involved, providing services to the community, having no compromise at the quality, working for employee rights and benefits etc. which Starbucks greatly adheres to and continually works for the benefits of all its stakeholders.。

Thank you, President Crow, for that generous introduction. I really appreciate our friendship and everything we are doing together. Thank you to the Arizona Board of Regents, faculty and special guests.Congratulations to the graduating Class of 2017 and those who are here to support you on this very, very special day. And to our 330 Starbucks College Achievement Plan graduates. So proud of you! Who have benefited from the Starbucks and ASU partnership, I am incredibly proud to be your partner. Congratulations to all of you.I would like to begin my time with you today by sharinga personal story.Last year, Starbucks coffee company opened our first store in South Africa in Johannesburg. I had never been to South Africa before, did not know what to expect. Certainly couldnot be prepared for the level of poverty and what I saw in the townships throughout the city. We opened two stores and lines were out the door in anticipation of Starbucks coming to the market but before we opened the stores, I gathered the 50 young people who would embrace the green apron and represent the company. I sat with them for a few hours and wanted to hear each one of their personal stories. As they were sharing their stories with me, despite their poverty, their plight in life, there was so much joy and gratitude in their hearts. But what I learned was two things. One, all 50 of these young people had never had a job before. They were all unemployed for their entire life and you should see the self-esteem and the sense of security as they were getting ready for their first job. But the second lesson was as they were going around the room and talking to me about their story, I kept hearing an African word I had never heard before.A word that Nelson Mandela used all the time. The word is “ubuntu” and finally, I got up the courage and I asked what does this word mean that you keep using. They couldn’t wait to share it with me.In unison, they said, Howard, “Ubuntu” means I am because of you. I am because of you.As I have the honor to speak with you today, I ask you to keep that story in mind because everything I’m going to share with you today is through the lens of ubuntu.I grew up in Brooklyn, New York, in public housing. The projects, as it was called back then. My parents were both high school dropouts, and they could barely afford $96 a month rent in our two-bedroom apartment for my brother, my sister and my parents. However, from my earliest of memories, my mother instilled in me her belief in the American dream and the promise of America. That a good education and hard work will open the doors to a better life, and that provides me with an important lesson to share with you all today. That your station in life does not define you and the promise of America that is for all of us.When I was 7 years old, I had a defining moment in my life. I came home from school one day and saw my father laid on a couch with a cast from his hip to his ankle. He had a series of terrible blue collar jobs as a high school dropout, army vet, but this particular job he had in 1960 was probably the worst. He was a truck driver delivering and picking up clothdiapers before the invention of pampers. He fell on a sheet of ice in March of 1960, and in March of 1960, if you were a blue collar, uneducated worker, you were dismissed if you had an accident. No workers’compensation, no severance, no health insurance and I saw the fracturing of the American Dream and I saw my parents go through hopelessness and despair at the age of 7. And those scars, that shame, that is with me even today. As a young boy, I could have never imagined that I would one day build a company of my own, let alone a company that would have more than 26,000 stores in 75 countries and employ more than 300,000 people. Thank you.But from day one, I really wanted to build the kind of company my father never got a chance to work for. A company that honors and respects the dignity of work and the dignity of all men and all women. And that is why we became the first company in all of America to provide comprehensive health insurance 30 years ahead of the affordable care act, as well as ownership in the form of stock options for all of our employees, including part-time people because it is my firm belief that success in business and in life is best when it’s shared.Starbucks Coffee Company went public in 1992, and from 1992 to 2006, we were on a magical carpet ride in which everything we did turned to gold. But in 2007, the music stopped. We had lost sight of our shared purpose and our guiding principles, in which growth and success began to cover up mistakes and a disease set into Starbucks. That disease, hubris. We lost our way and believe it or not, we almost lost the entire company.During this cataclysmic period, I was reminded what it means to love something and the responsibility that goes with it, as well as an understanding that leadership and moral courage is not a passive act.My partners and I took it personally, and we transformed the entire company. We galvanized the entire organization around our core values and servant leadership. Every business, every organization, even every family, must be true to its values and reason for being. Our core purpose and reason for being then and now has always been to achieve the fragile balance between profit and humanity.Today the equity of the Starbucks brand has never been stronger and our track record of creating shareholder value and social impact over the last 25 years has virtually beenunparalleled. We have built one of the most respected and recognized brands in the world, with the view that today the rules of engagement for business and business leaders have changed. That we must do more for our people and the communities we serve. And most importantly, that not every business decision is an economic one. And that success is not an entitlement. It has to be earned and earned every day through the lens of humility.Only in America can a poor kid from public housing have the privilege and the honor to be the commencement speaker at the largest and most innovative university in the country.I stand before you as living proof of the American dream. Joining many of your parents, your professors and generations of graduates before you. But today, you may question the strength of that dream and the promise of America. That’s fair.My generation has not made it easy for you. Our political leaders on both sides of the aisle have not acted with enough courage, nor honesty, in addressing the long-term challenges we face. They have been more focused on fighting with each other than walking in the shoes of the American people and vitriol rules the day in Washington.I’m extremely optimistic, especially when I look out and see you, because the future is not up to them, not up to Washington, it’s up to you. This milestone in your life may come with some anxiety about what tomorrow holds and you may have questions that only time can answer. But as a young man, who once sat nervously at his own commencement, I encourage you to always trust yourself and to be mindful of these three enduring questions. How will you respect your parents and honor your family? How will you share your success and serve others with dignity? And how will you lead with humility and demonstrate moral courage? You are leaving this campus as the best prepared generation in the history of our country. You each possess entrepreneurial spirit, the passion, and the commitment to create the future you deserve. However, don’t stop there. Try not to rely only on what you have learned in the classroom.Summon your compassion, your curiosity, your empathy towards others and your commitment to service. Give more than you receive and I promise you, it will come back to you in ways you can’t possibly imagine. Each of you is here today because of someone else. Aparent, a sibling, a teacher, a neighbor, a mentor, someone who had faith and confidence in you, like my mother had in me, and nurtured your dreams. As you leave here today, take a moment to think of those who have come before you, who have helped you along the way, who are at your side today. If they are here, embrace them and thank them for the gift of education and for the support and the love that they have given you.Your generation can bring people together like no other. You can innovate, create, and lead. Your generation will transform our economy and create millions of new jobs. You will develop cleaner energy. You will make it so racism only exists in history books. Yes, you will. You will be the generation that teaches the world that we are at our best when we recognize, respect, and celebrate our diversity. You can and you will make your mark on our country and our shared humanity. Dream big, and then dream bigger, a more innovative dream, a more inclusive dream. All of you will preserve and enhance the promise of America. The promise that propelled me out of public housing. The promise that will propel you forward, regardless of the color of your skin, your religion, your gender, your sexualorientation, or your station in life. Please remember that.ASU is because of you. You are because of ASU. We arebecause of each other. Ubuntu! Ubuntu! Ubuntu! Yes! Say it withme! Ubuntu! Ubuntu! Ubuntu! Ubuntu!Go forward and continue to make your parents and yourfamily proud. God bless you and thank you and congratulationsto the class of 2017! Thank you! Ubuntu! Thank you!。

The Speech of the CEO of Starbucks星巴克CEO演讲稿

The Speech of the CEO of Starbucks星巴克CEO演讲稿

The Speech of the CEO of Starbucks1. I did not know very much about coffee, and it was an experience that I had. Walking into Starbucks store for the first time in Seattle Washington, when I tasted for the first time, I was really intrigued with a taste that I had never experienced before. I wanted to learn more about it. And that brought me to being able to meet the people behind Starbucks initially and ultimately gonging to work for Starbucks in 1982, but they turned me down. They turned me down because they didn’t think they needed someone to come in and help them build Starbucks to another level. And I was very fortunate and very lucky that they and a change of mind and they did offer me a position and I moved form New York city to Seattle Washington. In September, 1982, and joined Starbucks. //2. One year after I joined Starbucks, I went on a trip to Italy, a business trip, for Starbucks and while visiting Italy, I became enamored, and curious, and intrigued with the phenomenon of the Italian coffee bar. For example, there were 1500 coffee bars alone in the city of Milan and what I saw in the coffee bar was not just great coffee but the sense of community and human connection. Starbucks only sold pounds of coffee for home consumption. They never sold one cup of coffee. It was a different business. It was a business created for home use. So I rushed back from Italy with tremendous enthusiasm and excitement and sat down with the founders of the company and said, “I’ve seen the future. The future is the It alian coffee bar and what we can create---the sense of community”.//3. And as enthusiastic and excited as I was---that’s how disappointed and non-interested they were. With the idea and they…once again, they turned me down. It was a disagreement about strategy. He was the owner; I was the employee. He was the boss, and he was in charge and I had to follow that, but the way that I thought about this over a period of almost two years is that I couldn’t allow this incredible opportunity that I saw in Italy and what I thought was an opportunity to create a different kind of business in America to go by. And so I guess you can say for almost two years, I just continued to be so frustrated and disappointed, and disappointed in myself that I wasn’t taking action and that I found myself really unhappy and I had tokind of look myself in the mirror and say, “Ok, it’s up to you. You are responsible for what you want to do.” And that’s why I decided to leave.4. First of all, I had zero money, but I knew that the way to start the business was to raise what in America called “venture capital”. And so, I wanted to go to private individual investors who could perhaps see the future with me and invest with me and I was a terrible salesman. In the first year, when we were trying to raise the money, I literally talked to 242 individual investors and about 98% of them turned me down. I meet many of those people today. I remind them. At the same time when I was trying to raise money for this new company, coffee consumption in America was down. We’re gonna charge 2,3,4 dollars for a cup of coffee. We were gonna serve in a paper cup and also we were gonna call each drink by an Italian name that no American could pronounce. Would you have it invested? //5. While thinking you are trying to raise money from a sophisticated investor, you have to create for them a very very bright picture, a vision of what the company is going to look like and ultimately what it is you are trying to accomplish. But you also obviously have to create an economic return. I should tell you this: the first business plan was---over a five-year period, I believe that we could open 100 stores. And things were going so badly that I actually rewrote the business plan and crossed out 100 and wrote 75 stores and even then, people said that there was no way that you were gonna open 75 stores in five years. It’s impossible. And well, there’re 11,000 today. //6. I think I mentioned to you earlier that when I walked into the Starbucks store for the first time, I had an emotional experience and that emotional experience was that I could feel and see that this rough diamond was not yet polished, but it had so many assets and so many unique characteristics that if positioned properly, could be something of extraordinary quality and so that gave me the idea and perhaps gave me the confidence. But also I recognized that the Starbuck’s name, the name itself I believed, was a magic and the people who were working for the company were so passionate about the coffee and the customer. And I believe that, if given the opportunity to grow the business and expand it reliterally and I wasn’t just kidding---Ireally believe that we could make history. //7. Any time you are growing a company, I think, at this pace, there’s risk attached to it. As we examine what has taken place over the years, in terms of number of new stores, number of new markets, the foundation of our success has been the cultural values of the company, so that the risk that we constantly address is…and sounds kind of trivial way is how do you get big and stay small, how do you maintain the local relevancy of the stores, how do you maintain the intimacy with the customer, how do you maintain trust with your people, and so what we’ve tried to do in every place that we’v e gone is to make sure that the fundamental foundation of what has built the company around the cultural values is in place first.//8. I believe strongly, that people, irregardless of the differences, want to be part of something larger than themselves. They want to be part of something that they can go home at night and share with their family and friends that they are proud of be part of. So we’ve created an environment both for our customers and our people. That is aspirational. And I think also, when you are managing a company and managing people, it’s really important, no matter where you are, if you are the CEO, or if you are the lowest person in the company, that everyone is treated respectfully, and there is no arrogance. And I think in the end of the day, as managers, and I would say this to future entrepreneurs and business people as well, you wanna demonstrate to your people not how much you know, but how much you care, and if you can do that in a genuinely authentic way, that is gonna cross over all of the culture differences, because you want to build an emotional connection with people. //9. A nd I’ve learnt that even though there are differences, that emotional connection---there is a common language. Even though I am the chairman of the company, my main job is to ensure the fact that they are heard, that they are valued, and that they are supported. What we’ve created as a company, I think, is a fantastic environment for our customers to both enjoy coffee itself and to experience the opportunity to share coffee with friends and family in a sense of community that exists in Starbucks. We call that “The Third Place”, this place between home and work. And as a result of what we’ve created and its universal appeal, we keeprepeating it, because this is what customers all over the world want. Now, having said that, we also are in the business of retail, which means we have to consistently provide new ideas, new innovation. But for me, I believe the foundation and the framework---what Starbucks does everyday, couple with innovation in our stores, is exactly the way to go.。

Good morning/afternoon/evening! It is a great pleasure to stand before you today to discuss the thriving world of commercial coffee and its impact on our daily lives. Coffee, as we all know, is not just a beverage; it is a cultural phenomenon that has taken the world by storm. In this speech, I will delve into the evolution of commercial coffee, its current state, and the future trends that are shaping the industry.Firstly, let us take a journey back in time to understand the roots of commercial coffee. The coffee plant, scientifically known as Coffea, originated in the African region. The earliest records of coffee consumption date back to the 9th century, where it was used for its medicinal properties. Over the centuries, coffee has spread across the world, thanks to its invigorating properties and the entrepreneurial spirit of coffee traders. The 17th century marked the beginning of the commercial coffee era. The Dutch, who were the pioneers in this field, introduced coffee to Europe. This led to the establishment of the first coffeehouses, which became popular gathering places for intellectuals, artists, and merchants. These coffeehouses played a crucial role in the development of modern society, fostering discussions on politics, science, and art.Today, the commercial coffee industry has grown exponentially, with thousands of coffee shops popping up in every corner of the globe. The global coffee market is projected to reach $28.7 billion by 2025, reflecting the increasing demand for this beloved beverage. But what are the factors driving this growth? One of the primary factors is the rising awareness of health benefits associated with coffee consumption. Studies have shown that coffee contains antioxidants, which can help in reducing the risk of certain diseases, including Parkinson's and Alzheimer's. Moreover, coffee is known to boost cognitive function, making it a popular choice among students and professionals.Another driving force is the evolution of coffee flavors and brewing methods. The rise of specialty coffee has transformed the industry, offering a wide range of unique and exquisite flavors. From Ethiopian toColombian beans, coffee enthusiasts can now choose from a diverse array of origins and roast profiles. Additionally, innovative brewing techniques, such as pour-over, French press, and espresso, have allowed coffee shops to craft customized beverages that cater to individual tastes. The role of technology in the commercial coffee industry cannot be overlooked. Online ordering systems, mobile apps, and social media have revolutionized the way we interact with coffee shops. These digitaltools have made it easier for customers to discover new cafes, order their favorite drinks, and share their experiences with friends.Looking ahead, several trends are shaping the future of commercial coffee. One such trend is the emphasis on sustainability. As consumers become more environmentally conscious, coffee shops are increasingly focusing on sourcing ethically produced coffee and using eco-friendly packaging. Another trend is the integration of coffee shops into the broader food and beverage industry, with some cafes offering a variety of food items to complement their coffee offerings. In conclusion, commercial coffee has come a long way since its humble beginnings. Its growth is driven by a combination of health benefits, diverse flavors, technological advancements, and a growing awareness of sustainability. As we move forward, the commercial coffee industry is poised to continue its upward trajectory, captivating the hearts and minds of coffee lovers worldwide.Thank you for your attention, and let us raise our cups to the future of commercial coffee—a world where every sip is an adventure, every bean is a story, and every cup is a connection. Cheers![End of Speech]。

2014011006This book uncovered secrets about Starbuck’s tale, it was written by Taylor Clark. He narrated the establishing history of Starbuck, including how did its originator created coffee road when the U.S.A. had not have coffee culture at all, how did they site selection of store, how to design and locate products, how to attract customers and keep customer loyal. Besides, we can also know that Starbucks is not only sale coffee, but also change people’s life style. After finishing the book, when I drink Starbucks Coffee again, I have had new ideas about this corporation and coffee itself. If you want to know about Starbuck, you need to know coffee first. Coffee was found in 1923, but at that time, coffee tasted very bad, the condition even worse in the 1950s. No one knew the right way to make coffee, but Americans still loved coffee very much, so they used to drink it until Starbucks appeared. Three young people in Seattle were the originators of Starbucks, they learned knowledge about coffee from a popular coffee shop and decided to generalized it. They chose Starbuck as their company’s name is because the word was ended with “k”, it made people feel clear-cut, just like Coke, Nike and Kinko, besides, buck means one dollar, it hinted customers that they could only spend several dollars in there. Fortunately, they had a big success, the people in there never drunk such tasty coffee. At this time, a young people appeared, he is Howard Schultz, the CEO of future Starbucks corporation. In 1987, Schultz bought the original Starbucks store and decided to sale Italian cup of coffee, but the story about Starbucks was just start. There is a question, why did people in Seattle love coffee very much? The first reason is the climate in there is very cold and moist, people almost could not see sunshine for a whole month, so they wanted to warm themselves together. The second reason is the water quality in there was very suitable for making coffee. Besides, many people were from Scandinavia, and Northern European liked coffee very much. Of course, Schultz’s ambition also made great contribution for coffee’s progress. We all know no matter where did Starbucks opened, it always was filled with customers, but it did not mean Starbucks never fail in its history. In 1987, many Starbucks were operated in Chicago, but it was a disaster. All the Starbucks were located near the street but in the buildings, no one would like to buy a coffee if they must went out to the cold outdoor. And many customers complained the coffee’s taste was too heav y. The higher rent and labor cost also made it failed. But when Harry Roberts came, everything went well. When Starbucks was opened in Los Angeles, its success was undisputed. Many Hollywood movie stars loved high-end coffee wherever they went, they must take a cup of Starbucks, the act made free advertisement for Starbucks. As for market sales, Starbucks, has its own skills. For example, before customers ordered coffee, they would walking by cake shelf, so they will put the most expensive product on the right side, because most people used to use right hand. In order to meetcustomers satisfaction they had made a survey, generally, the waiting time under 90 seconds will not make customers impatient, so they tried their best to improve efficiency. Every year, when they want to product new drinks, they even will consider about the popular color in next year. Nowadays, Starbucks is everywhere. The writer made a lot of surveys to find a place without Starbucks, but once he found a place, a new Starbucks will appear in there in several months. It sounds interesting. About the store location, they are even more careful. If you pay attentions, you will find every Starbucks is located on the right side of the street, it’s convenient all the drivers. They also like to near video stores or dry cleaners, because the customers in the two places need to get there twice, so average educated level, family scale, income level and the car number are also important.Starbucks also very cruel when they face enemy. When they wanted to march in San Francisco, Schultz wanted to buy his first boss’s shop, but he was rejected, so he opened a new Starbucks near it. At last, Schultz won, and he always win every time he did like this. Nowadays, Starbucks has no real opponent in the world. I admire Howard Schultz very much, he made everything possible. I spent three days in finishing the book, because I was attracted by it. I hope Starbucks will make more miracle in the future.。

Ladies and gentlemen,Good morning/afternoon/evening. It is an honor for me to be here today to speak to you all about the art of coffee entrepreneurship. As someone who has been in the coffee industry for many years and has successfully built and operated my own coffee business, I hope to share with you some insights and lessons that I have learned along the way.But before we delve into the details of running a coffee business, let me start by sharing a little bit about my own journey as a coffee entrepreneur. Like many of you here, my love for coffee began at a young age. However, it wasn't until I traveled to a coffee-producing region during my college years that I truly discovered the depth and complexity of this magical bean. Inspired by the passion and dedication of the coffee farmers I met, I knew that coffee was not just a beverage, but a way of life. It was then that I decided to devote myself to the world of coffee. The first lesson I learned as an aspiring coffee entrepreneur is that passion alone is not enough. Yes, being passionate about coffee is important, but it is equally important to acquire the necessary knowledge and skills to succeed in the coffee industry. This includes understanding the various coffee beans, their origins, and how to expertly roast and brew them. It also means staying updated on the latest trends and innovations in the coffee world.Once you have the knowledge and skills, the next step is to create a unique and compelling brand. In a saturated market like the coffeeindustry, differentiation is key. You need to find your unique selling proposition and communicate it effectively to your target audience. Is it your commitment to sourcing only the finest, sustainably grown beans? Or is it your innovative brewing methods and creative flavors? Whatever it may be, make sure it resonates with your target customers and sets you apart from the competition.Another crucial lesson I learned is the importance of building strong relationships within the coffee community. Coffee is a social beverage, and the industry is filled with passionate individuals who are eager to connect and collaborate. Attend coffee trade shows, join industry associations, and actively engage with other coffee professionals. Be open to learning from others and sharing your own experiences. By doing so, you will not only expand your network but also gain valuable insights and support that will help your business grow. Now, let's talk about the physical space where your coffee business will operate. Whether it is a coffee shop, a roastery, or an online platform, the design and ambience of your space are crucial factors in attracting and retaining customers. People go to coffee shops not just for the coffee but also for the overall experience. Create a space that is warm, inviting, and reflects your brand identity. Invest in quality furniture, lighting, and music. And don't forget about the power of aroma. The smell of freshly brewed coffee can be a powerful marketing tool.Speaking of marketing, let's discuss the various strategies you can employ to promote your coffee business. Today, social mediaplatforms such as Instagram and Facebook are powerful marketing tools that can help you reach a wider audience. Use high-quality photographs and engaging captions to showcase your coffee products and create a sense of FOMO (fear of missing out) among your followers. Collaborate with influencers and bloggers to expand your reach. Additionally, consider offering coffee workshops and tastings to educate consumers and deepen their appreciation for your products.Lastly, but most importantly, never lose sight of your core values and mission as a coffee entrepreneur. It is easy to get caught up in the day-to-day operations and lose sight of why you started this journey in the first place. Always stay true to your vision and ensure that every decision you make aligns with your values. Remember that coffee is not just a commodity, but a product that connects people and cultures. Embrace the responsibility that comes with being a coffee entrepreneur and use your platform to make a positive impact on the world. In conclusion, starting and running a coffee business is no easy task, but with passion, knowledge, and perseverance, it can be a truly rewarding venture. Stay curious, keep learning, and always strive for excellence. I wish you all the best in your coffee entrepreneurial journey. Thank you.。

The Speech of the CEO of Starbucks1. I did not know very much about coffee, and it was an experience thatI had. The future is the Italian coffee bar and what we can create---the sense of community”.And as enthusiastic and excited as I was---that’s how disappointed and non-interested they were. With the idea and they…once again, they turned me down. It was a disagreement about strategy. He was the owner; I was the employee. He was the boss, and he was in charge and I had to follow that, but the way that I thought about this over a period of almost two years is that I couldn’t allow this incredible opportunity that I sawin Italy and what I thought was an opportunity to create a different kind of business in America to go by. And so I guess you can say for almost two years, I just continued to be so frustrated and disappointed, and disappointed in myself that I wasn’t taking action and that I fou nd myself really unhappy and I had to kind of look myself in the mirror and say, “Ok, it’s up to you. You are responsible for what you want to do.” And that’s why I decided to leave.4. First of all, I had zero money, but I knew that the way to start theb usiness was to raise what in America called “venture capital”. And so, I wanted to go to private individual investors who could perhaps see the future with me and invest with me and I was a terrible salesman. In the first year, when we were trying to raise the money, I literally talked to 242 individual investors and about 98% of them turned me down. I meet many of those people today. I remind them. At the same time when I was trying to raise money for this new company, coffee consumption in America was dow n. We’re gonna charge 2,3,4 dollars for a cup of coffee. We were gonna serve in a paper cup and also we were gonna call each drink by an Italian name that no American could pronounce. Would you have it invested? While thinking you are trying to raise money from a sophisticated investor, you have to create for them a very very bright picture, a vision of what the company is going to look like and ultimately what it is you are trying to accomplish. But you also obviously have to create an economic return.I should tell you this: the first business plan was---over a five-year period, I believe that we could open 100 stores. And things were going so badly that I actually rewrote the business plan and crossed out 100 and wrote 75 stores and even then, people said that there was no way that you were gonna open 75 stores in five years. It’s impossible. And well, there’re 11,000 today. I think I mentioned to you earlier that when I walked into the Starbucks store for the first time, I had an emotionalexperience and that emotional experience was that I could feel and see that this rough diamond was not yet polished, but it had so many assets and so many unique characteristics that if positioned properly, could be something of extraordinary quality and so that gave me the idea and perhaps gave me the confidence. But also I recognized that the Starbuck’s name, the name itself I believed, was a magic and the people who were working for the company were so passionate about the coffee and the customer. And I believe that, if given the opportunity to grow the business and expand it reliterally and I wasn’t just kidding---I really believe that we could make history. Any time you are growing a company, I think, at this pace, there’s risk attached to it. As we examine what has t aken place over the years, in terms of number of new stores, number of new markets, the foundation of our success has been the cultural values of the company, so that the risk that we constantly address is…and sounds kind of trivial way is how do you get big and stay small, how do you maintain the local relevancy of the stores, how do you maintain the intimacy with the customer, how do you maintain trust with your people, and so what we’ve tried to do in every place that we’ve gone is to make sure that the fundamental foundation of what has built the company around the cultural values is in place first.I believe strongly, that people, irregardless of the differences, want to be part of something larger than themselves. And I think in the end of the day, as managers, and I would say this to future entrepreneursand business people as well, you wanna demonstrate to your people not how much you know, but how much you care, and if you can do that in a genuinely authentic way, that is gonna cross over all of the culture differences, because you want to build an emotional connection with people. And as a result of what we’ve created and its universal appeal, we keep repeating it, because this is what customers all over the world want. Now, having said that, we also are in the business of retail, which means we have to consistently provide new ideas, new innovation. But for me, I believe the foundation and the framework---what Starbucks does everyday, couple with innovation in our stores, is exactly the way to go.。
