2016届高考高三英语二轮专题复习:阅读理解
2014届高考高三英语二轮专题复习:阅读理解AThe original plans for the park were on 8 acres next to the Burbank studios where his employees and families could go to relax. Although, World War II put those plans on hold. During the war, Disney had time to come up with new ideas, and creations for his magical park. It was soon clear that 8 acres wouldn't be enough. Finally in 1953, he had the Stanford Research Institute conduct a survey for a 100-acre site, outside of Los Angeles. He needed space to build rivers, waterfalls, and mountains; he would have flying elephants and giant teacups; a fairy-tale castle, moon rockets, and a scenic railway; all inside a magic kingdom he called "Disneyland."The search for the best venue for the park ended in the rural Anaheim, California with a purchase of a 160-acre orange grove near the junction of the Santa Ana Freeway (I-5) and Harbor Boulevard.Construction for Disneyland began on July 21, 1954, 12 months before the park was scheduled to open. Some 160-acres of citrus trees had been cleared and 15 houses moved to make room for the park. However, when the real designing came around, Disney met with inevitable questions. How do you make believable wild animals, that aren't real? How do you make a Mississippi paddle ship? How do you go about building a huge castle in the middle of Anaheim, California? Disney asked his movie studio staff for answers. The design of Disneyland was something never done before. There would be four uniquely different theme parts: Adventureland, Frontierland, Fantasyland Tomorrow land. Bit by bit, Disneyland got ready for Opening Day. Sometimes they try to remember a solution from the last time they had a similar problem. They often accept the opinions or ideas of other people. Other times they begin to act without thinking. They try to find a solution by trial and error. However, when all these methods fail, the person with a problem has to start analyzing. There are six stages in analyzing a problem.First the person must recognize that there is a problem. For example, Sam’s bicycle is broken, and he cannot ride it to class as he usually does. Sam must see that there is a problem with his bicycle.Next the thinker must define the problem. Before Sam can repair his bicycle, he must find out the reason why it does not work. For instance, he must determine if the problem is with the gears, the brakes, or the frame. He must make his problem more specific. Now the person must look for information that will make the problem clearer and lead to possible solutions. For instance, suppose Sam decided that his bike does not work because there is something wrong with the gear wheels. At this time, he can look in his bicycle repair book and read about gears. He can talk to his friends at the bike shop. He can look at his gears carefully. After studying the problem, the person should have several suggestions for a possible solution. Take Sam as an illustration. His suggestions might be: put oil on the gear wheels; buy new gear wheels and replace the old ones; tighten or loosen the gear wheels.Eventually one suggestion seems to be the solution to the problem. Sometimes the final idea comes very suddenly because the thinker suddenly sees something new or sees something in a new way. Sam, for example, suddenly sees that there is a piece of chewing gum between the gear wheels. He immediately realizes the solution to his problem: he must clean the gear wheels. Finally the solution is tested. Sam cleans the gear wheels and finds that afterwards his bicycle works perfectly. In short , he has solved the problem.43. By referring to Sam’s broken bicycl e, the author intends to _________.A. illustrate the ways to repair his bicycleB. discuss the problems of his bicycleC. tell us how to solve a problemD. show us how to analyze a problem44. Which of the following is NOT true?A. People do not analyze the problem they meet.B. People often accept the opinions or ideas of other people.C. People may learn from their past experience.D. People can not solve some problems they meet.45. As used in the last sentence, the phrase “in short” means _________.A. in the short termB. in detailC. in a wordD. in the end46. . In analyzing a problem we should do all the following except .A. recognize and define the problemB. look for information to make the problem clearerC. have suggestions for a possible solutionD. find a solution by trial or mistakeDThe campaign is over. The celebrations have ended. And the work for US president-elect Barack Obama has begun. The 47-year-old politician rose to the highest post because of his stand against the war in Iraq and his plans to fix a weak economy. But what will the first 47-year-old African-American president do for race relations?Obama’s victory appears to have given blacks and other minorities a true national role model. For years, many looked to athletes and musicians for inspiration. As Darius Turner, an African-American high school student in Los Angeles, told the Los Angeles Times, “Kobe doesn’t have to be e verybody’s role model anymore.”Recent polls(民意测验)also suggest that Obama’s victory has given Americans new optimism about race relations. For example, a USA Today poll found that two-thirds of Americans believe relations between blacks and whites “will finally be worked out”. This is the most hopeful response since the question was first asked during the civil rights revolution in 1963.However, it’s still too early to tell whether Obama’s presidency will begin to solve many of the social problems facing low-income black communities.Although blacks make up only 13 percent of the US population, 55 percent of all prisoners are African-American. Such numbers can be blamed on any number of factors on America’s racist past, a failure of government policy and the collapse(瓦解)of the family unit in black communities. It is unlikely that Obama will be able to reverse (扭转) such trends overnight. However, Bill Bank, an expert of African-American Studies, says that eventually young blacks need to find role models in their own communities. “That’s not Martin Luther King, and not Barack Obama,” he told the Los Angeles Times. “It’s actually the people closest to them. Barack only has so much influence.”In the opinion of black British politician Trevor Phi llips, Obama’s rise will contribute more to multiculturalism than to race relations in the US.“When the G8 meets, the four most important people in the room will be the president of China, the prime minister of India, the prime minister of Japan and Ba rak Obama,” he told London’s The Times newspaper. “It will be the first time we’ve seen that on our television screens. That will be a huge psychological shift (心理转变) for both the white people and the colored ones in the world.”47. For years, before Obama was elected president of the US, __________.A. Kobe was the only role model for all the blacksB. blacks could only find role models on the basketball courtC. minorities in America couldn’t find role models in their real lifeD. American blacks had no role model who was successful in political area48. According to Bill Bank, ____________.A. it’s better for young blacks to find role models in those who are close to themB. young blacks should not be so much influenced by ObamaC. blacks should find other role models because Obama is far from their realityD. Obama is not the proper role model for African-Americans49. What would be the best title for this passage?A. The First African-American PresidentB. America’s New R ole ModelC. Obama-- A Successful Black .D. Choosing a Right Role Model50. What will be the huge psychological shift Trevor mentioned at the end of the passage?A. The other three leaders all support Obama.B. 山西太原市2016高考英语二轮阅读理解能力演练(2)及答案
山西太原市2016高考英语二轮阅读理解能力演练(2)及答案[2014·高三年级考试]My name is Megan Grattan,a resident of Cedar Springs for over fifteen years。
From the beginning of my first high school year at Cedar Springs High School,I wished for something different. I met some foreign exchange students in my school that year。
Their stories were my inspiration to pursue a crazy dream. I wanted to be an exchange student, too。
I wanted to experience something new every day and to learn a new language and a new way of life。
After a year and a half of paperwork and e.mails,I am now living in Aalborg,Denmark。
It is the fourth largest city in Denmark。
Aalborg is nothing like Cedar Springs。
Here, I have learned how to use a bus to get into town and how to walk to a convenience store for things I need. I even walk to school every day. While adjusting to a six.hour time difference from home, I have to get used to darkness setting in only around 4 p.m..Christmas in Denmark has been absolutely incredible. Aalborg Downtown has endless shops along streets for foottraffic only, all decorated in lights and flowers throughout the season. The greatest thingabout my Danish Christmas was the food. Christmas Eve and the three Christmas days were all filled with food! My host family and I had several dinners that consisted of pork, duck, potatoes, gravy and much more. The rice pudding, or, ris ala mande, is a unique dessert in Aalborg. One of my favorite Christmas treats was definitely aebleskiver which are pancakelike balls that are dipped(浸)in sugars and jam。
福建福鼎市2016高考英语二轮阅读理解练习《2》及答案
福建福鼎市2016高考英语二轮阅读理解练习【2】及答案【2014高考英语模拟冲刺卷】My parents lived through the Great Depression of the 1930s and I heard stories from both of them about how their lives changed because of it. The same was true of my in-laws whose lives were also affected negati vely. For example, my husband’s grandfather owned a factory. Owing to the stock (证券) market crash, he lost the factory and went back to work in the very factory he’d once owned. He could no longer afford to send my father-in-law to college. My father-in-law worked full time as a pipe fitter and went to school part-time to earn his degree, which took seven years.Somehow, my husband and I never dreamed that we would live through anything similar. However, as they say, history often repeats itself. In 1929, the stock market crashed in the month of October. The same thing happened in 2008. My husband, who had invested (投资) all our money in the market, was in a state of shock. Each day the news was more terrible.“We’ve lost more than half of our wealth,” he tol d me.I just stared at him. “How can that be?”“I thought we had good, solid investments, but it seems I was wrong.”“Well, we do have pensions (抚恤金),” I said. “Hopefully, they won’t be affected. Since we have never lived a high lifestyle to begin with, I don’t think we have to worry.”“I did hope to leave our children and grandchildren a generous inheritance (遗产),” my husband said. He shook his head in disbelief.“We’ll still be able to give gifts. Love is the most important gift anyway.” Our children are grown and we always try to be generous to them and our grandchildren.“It just won’t be the same.”“The world is always changing,” I said. “You never know what will happen. The main thing is not to get discouraged. As long as we have our health and can aff ord the necessities of life, there’s no reason to be upset. When you have your health, you can always earn more money.”I hugged my husband and he kissed me in return.“I guess you’re right,” he agreed. “We love each other. We have our health and enough mo neyto live on comfortably. That’s all that matters.”We had to move out of our house into an apartment. Since few people could afford a house in those hard days, we decided to offer it for considerably less than it would normally be worth. Even so, several buyers changed their mind days before closing. But finally, our home was sold.As we shook hands with the new owners, I told them how fortunate they were.“Not only are you getting a bargain in the price, but this house has good luck. We bought the house from a family who lived in it for nine years. They were a happy family, a husband, wife and five children. It was a cheerful house and we had a good feeling about it. We raised our children here as well.”“That’s good to hear,” the young woman said with a smile. “We have two young children ourselves. And I believe in luck too.”We nodded our heads in agreement, understanding each other.“You’ll live only six houses from the best primar y school in the town and your children won’t even have to cross a street,” I said. “Our children used to come home each day and have lunch with me.”“We like the woods in the back,” the young man told us. “We’re going to plant a large garden in the backyard.”They seemed so young and happy and full of plans. My husband and I had to smile. At least some good was coming out of the economic difficulty. We no longer needed a house. It was good to know that another young family would now be living in what had been a happy, loving home for us. Also, the house needed work that we no longer had the energy to perform. These may be tough times economically, but as for me, I intend to look forward, not back. As Shakespeare said in Macbeth, “what’s done is done and cannot be undone.” It’s the present and future that matter. We can learn from our mistakes and make our lives better.55. In the first paragraph, the author described her husband’s family in order to tell us ______.A. economic difficulty can change a family’s lifestyleB. people have to sell their factories when the stock market crashesC. everything can happen in today’s worldD. my husband’s family suffered a lot in the 1930s56. What happened to the author’s family in 2008?A. Her husband invested all their money in the stock market.B. They had to live on pensions.C. They had to sell their house.D. They got most of their money lost in the stock market.57. The author’s attitude towards her husband after hearing the bad news can be described as______.A. angry but supportiveB. sincere and encouragingC. kind and sympatheticD. forgiving but casual58. In the author’s opinion what matters in life is ______.A. wealth and healthB. health and loveC. money and workD. house and children59. It takes more than just practice to become an Olympian. Gold medal performances require some serious nutrition. Have you ever wondered what these successful athletes eat to stay in peak shape?Keri Glassman, a registered dietitian and founder of Nutritious Life Meals, appeared on“Good Morning America”today to give you a glimpse into the diets ofsome top athletes. Some of their meals could surprise you.Crazy Calorie CountGlassman said Olympians eat a lot of food—quantities that for ordinary people would constitute pigging out. One secret of swimmer Michael Phelps’ astonishing performance in the 2008 Olympics in Beijing was consuming as many as 12, 000 calories in one day.Athletes can eat like this and not gain any weight because their workouts are intense. According to Glassman, Phelps’ workouts can burn 4, 000 to 6, 000 calories in a day, and those calories must be added in order to train the following day.Snacking SecretsSome athletes eat strange foods that improve their performance. Yohan Blake, the Jamaica sprinter and 100-meter world champion, has stolen champion sprinter Usain Bolt’s thunder on the track during the Olympic trials. Asked about how he gets his energy, Blake answered that he eats 16 bananas per day, Glassman said.Jonathan Horton, the lead gymnast on the US team, has a blood sugar problem. His solution is honey. When he starts to feel shaky at the gym, he takes honey to boost his energy, Glassman said.Foods for RecoveryWhat are the best foods to help the body recover after harsh competition? For Olympic swimmer Ryan Lochte, the recovery meal is grilled chicken breasts with Alfredo sauce, whole-g rain spaghetti and a salad with lemon juice and olive oil. Lochte, who recently cut out junk food, candy and soda, has undertaken a strength-training regimen(养生法)that involves flipping tractor tires and tossing beer kegs, Glassman said.【文章大意】运动员的成长不仅需要锻炼, 还需要营养, 合理膳食也至关重要。

Blue planets Space is not black, but light green,a team of astronomers announced on January 10.They studied the light sent out by 200 000 galaxies。
What they found was that the average colour of the universe is a bit greener than turquoise(绿宝石).The discovery was part of an attempt to test theories about how stars and galaxies form. Most astronomers believe that the universe probably started with a“blue period"when young blue stars filled space。
Now the universe is in a“green period”.They believe it will finally enter a“red period”when the older, redder stars appear.“The reas on for the colour changing is that the rate of stars forming is changing,”said Ivan Baldry,an astronomer who worked to find the average colour of light in the universe。

It's her feature! It gives her character! But to you, that thing on your nose is completely ugly. Our opinions of our own looks are also changeable. So if we can't trust the judgment of ourselves,or the words of friends and family which can take away our doubts,we're left to the cool judgment of strangers to satisfy our curiosity about our appearances. The website“Hot or Not”,which lets people hand their photos in for others to judge, had nearly 2 million daily page views within a week in 2000.But it's not the best way to improve the judgment of yourself because you have no confidence yet in your mind.Everyone may pay too much attention to his or her own appearance, and at the same time worry about being criticized. If you are particularly attentive to your body,or if you feel uncomfortable in public, you are certainly hotter than you think. And we all have the ability to change how other people judge us without changing our looks. When you believe that you look good, others will see you in a more favorable way.Improve your impression from the inside.Understanding your ownadvantages can help you stop worrying about your appearance and look better.1.What can we infer from the first paragraph?A.We should focus on our advantages.B.Don't be cheated by others' praise.C.Judging oneself in a right way is important.D.It's unnecessary to know the meaning of beauty.答案:C推理判断题.根据第一段“...self-knowledge is the most important beauty secret.”可知,人的自知之明是美丽的最重要秘诀.由此推之,正确评价自己很重要.2.What does the example in the second paragraph suggest?A.Good-looking people are more popular than ordinary ones.B.Some bad-looking people are afraid to look in the mirror.C.Some people judge one by his appearance simply.D.Sometimes we make our own imperfections bigger.答案:D推理判断题.根据第二段“That bump on your friend's nose. It's her feature! It gives her character! But to you, that thing on your nose is completely ugly. Our opinions of our own looks are also changeable.”可知,“你”可能认为朋友鼻子上的凸起是她的特色,赋予她个性.而如果在自己身上,就会看起来很丑陋.由此推断,有时我们把自身的瑕疵放大了.3.“Hot or Not”________.A.is a website which allows others to comment on your characterB.can't change your ideas completely unless you're confidentC.is a good way to make friends and makes you popular onlineD.can satisfy one's curiosity about others' secrets答案:B细节理解题.根据第三段“But it's not the best way to improve the judgment of yourself because you have no confidence yet in your mind.”可知,这个网站不是提升“你”对自己评价的最好方法,因为在心里,“你”仍然没有自信.所以,除非“你”有自信,否则这个网站不能完全改变“你”的想法.4.From the last paragraph we can learn________.A.hanging our looks can make us more attractiveB.people shouldn't care about their own disadvantagesC.we can make ourselves more beautiful in the mindD.it's useless to pay attention to your appearance答案:C细节理解题.根据最后两句“Improve your impression from the inside. Understanding your own advantages can help you stop worrying about your appearance and look better.” On occasion, a memory came to my mind. The lungs become less able to take in oxygen. Powerful muscles gradually lose their strength. The heart loses power and pumps less blood. Bones grow easier to break. Finally, we meet a stress, a stress that is greater than our physical resistance. Often, it is only a minor accident or chance infection (a disease caused by virus), but this time, it brings life to an end.In 1932, a classic experiment nearly doubled the lifetime of rats, simply by cutting back the calories (unit for measuring the energy value of food)in their diet. The reason for the effect was then unknown.Today, at the University of California at Berkley, Dr. Paul Seagle has also greatly lengthened the normal lifetime of rats. The result was achieved through a special protein (蛋白质)limited diet, which had a great effect on the chemistry of the brain. Seagle showed that within the brain, specific chemicals control many of the signals that influence aging. By changing that chemical balance, the clock of aging can be reset. For the first time, the mystery (something that is difficult to understand or to explain)of why we age is being seriously challenged. Scientists in many fields are now making striking and far-reaching discoveries. An average lifetime lasts 75 years, yet in each of us lies a potential for a longer life. If we could keep the vitality and resistance to disease that we have at twenty, we would live for 800 years.1. What does the underlined word “it”r efer to?A. Physical vitality.B. Stress.C. Aging.D. Physical resistance.2. For decades, public health officials have puzzled over a surpri sing fact about HIV: Only about 10-20 percent of infants who are breastfed by infected mothers c atch the virus. Tests show, though, that HIV is indeed present in breast milk, so these children are exposed to the virus mult iple times daily for the first several months of their lives. Now, a group of scientists and doctors from has figured out why these babies don’t get infected. Human breast milk natur ally contains a protein called Tenascin C that neutralizes HIV and, in most cases, prevents it from being passed from mothe r to child. Eventually, they say, the protein could potentially be valuable as an HIV-fighting tool for both infants and adults that are either HIV-positive or at risk of contracting the infection. The research, published in Proceedings of the National Acade my of Sciences, was inspired by previous work by other resea rchers showing that, both in tissue cultures (组织培养) and live mice, breast milk from HIV-negativemothers was naturally endowed with HIV-fighting properties. Scientists suggested that a few different pr oteins in the milk could potentially be responsible, but no one knew which one.As part of the study, the researchers divided breast milk into s maller fractions (部分) made up of specific proteins via a number of filters (过滤) — separating the proteins by size, electrical charge and ot her characteristics—and tested which of these fractions, when added to a tissue c ulture, prevented the cells from being infected by HIV. Eventu ally, they found that one particular protein was present in all th e HIV-resistant fractions but in none of the others: Tenascin C. Tenascin C works by blocking a key protein on HIV’s envelop e that normally ties up to a receptor on a T cell’s membrane c alled CCR5. In doing so, Tenascin C prevents HIV from mixin g with the T cell and injecting its RNA inside.Still, the researchers say that other natural elements in milk m ight play a role in fighting HIV as well. “It’s clearly not the whol e story, because we do have samples that have low amounts of this protein but still have HIV-neutralizing activity,” the study’s lead author Permar says. “Soit may be acting in concert with other antiviral and antimicrobi al factors in the milk.”Whatever those other factors are, though, the finding vindicat es (证明……的正确) recent changes to UN guidelines that recommend even HI V-positive mothers in resource-poor countries should breastfeed, if they’re taking anti-retroviral drugs to combat their own infection. The next steps, Permar says, are determining which area of T enascin C is active and whether it can effectively prevent tran smission in a live animal. If it works, it could potentially be inc orporated (合并) into an HIV drug with broader applications. It’s even possi ble that it could someday be adapted to reduce the risk of HIV transmission in adults as well as infants.63. What is the main idea of Paragraph 1?A. The breast milk from an infected mother doesn’t contain HI V at all.B. It’s less likely for infants feeding on infected mothers’ breas t milk to catch HIV.C. The possibilities of infants catching HIV have nothing to do with infected mothers.D. Children breastfed by infected mothers won’t catch HIV tho ugh exposed to it frequently.64. Why did the researchers divide breast milk into smaller fra ctions?A. To find out Tenascin C.B. To make up spec ific proteins.C. To add them to a tissue culture.D. Some years ago, writing in my diary used to be a usual activit y.I would return from school and spend the expected half hour recording the day's events, feelings, and impressions in my lit tle blue diary.I did not really need to express my emotions by way of words, but I gained a certain satisfaction from seeing my experiences forever recorded on paper. After all, isn't accu mulating memories a way of preserving the past? When I was thirteen years old, I went on a long journey on foo t in a great valley, well-equipped with pens, a diary, and a camera.During the trip, I w as busy recording every incident, name and place I came acr oss.I felt proud to be spending my time productively, dutifully preserving for future generations a detailed description of my t ravels. On my last night there, I wandered out of my tent, diary in hand. The sky was clear and lit by the glare of the moon, a nd the walls of the valley looked threatening behind their scre en of shadows.I automatically took out my pen...At that point, I understood that nothing I wrote could ever match or replace the few seconds I allowed myself to experience the dramatic beauty of the valley. All I remembered of the prev ious few days were the dull characterizations I had set down i n my diary. Now, I only write in my diary when I need to write down a spe cial thought or feeling.I still love to record ideas and quotation s that strike me in books, or observations that are particularly meaningful.I take pictures, but not very often—only of objects I find really beautiful.I'm no longer blindly satisf ied with having something to remember when I grow old.I reali ze that life will simply pass me by if I stay behind the camera, busy preserving the present so as to live it in the future.I don't want to wake up one day and have nothing but a pile of pictures and notes.Maybe I won't have as many exact repres entations of people and places; maybe I'll forget certain facts, but at least the experiences will always remain inside me.I do n't live to make memories—I just live, and the memories form themselves.1.Before the age of thirteen, the author regarded keeping a diary as a way of________.A.observing her school routineB.expressing her satisfactionC.impressing her classmatesD.preserving her history解析细节理解题。

For more than nine days, for more than 60 miles, thousands of Beijingbound vehicles have come to an almost t otal stop on highways called the 6 and 110 that run from Inner Mongolia southeast to the nation's capital.Bai Xiaolong,a 30yearold truck driver, says it took him five days to make the 350mile journey from In ner Mongolia to Tianjin. He spent much of that time reading, textmessaging and sleeping rather than speeding up. “There was one day that I didn't move, not even an inch,”said Bai,an inhabitant of Jining in Inner Mongolia,a city at the western end of the traffic jam.Chinese officials said that the congestion is mainly because of the maintenance(维护)projects that began in midAugust and are scheduled to be completed in midSeptember.Trucks carrying 8 tons or more of coal or fruit have been responsible for damaging the roadway ,thus making the work necessary.Drivers who often use the route know that heavy traffic has lo ng been a fact of l ife.“The problem is really that there're too m any cars and trucks and not enough lanes(车道),”Bai said.“We drivers are used to this sort of thing happe ning.”The two national freeways are heavily used by trucks carrying coal from the recently opened fields of Inner Mongolia to 's c oastal cities. The seemingly endless jam began on the 6 and spread to the 110,which runs parallel(平行的),when officials sought to ease the traffic on the 6.The Global Times, and Englishlanguage newspaper, said the jam had eased somewhat in the last two days, but inhabitants of the region say the congestion simply spilled out onto other roads. The congestion has created an economy of its own.Vendors(小贩)sell boxed lunches, noodles and drinking water to the travelers, often at jackedup prices. And because of the longstanding pro blems along the highways, dozens of small hotels have appeared, attracting drivers who need a stop to catch more serious slee p.1.According to the text, the 110 was mainly damaged by________.A.too many cars B.bad weatherC.poor maintenance D.heavy trucks答案:D 细节理解题。

A(2015·重庆一中一诊)Based on new analysis,we are rapidly approaching major climate change and the effects on society and the environment could be quite severe.Geographers predict that within the next eighty years, current world climate zones could shift and some could completely disappear.Polar regions will get colder while tropical regions will get even hotter, forcing animals to migrate(迁徙) north.Climate changes like these could lead to the spread of diseases.Tropical storms and hurricanes will not only increase but may also become more intense. If the changes come too quickly, animal and plant species may not be able to adapt fast enough and could disappear.According to Science Daily,a new study predicts that by the year 2100,many of today’s familiar climates will be replaced by climates unknown in today’s world. It is urgent that we reduce the risks of these farreaching consequences for the whole world. The planet itself has been showing signs of change. In 2004,a serious tsunami created by a major earthquake killed thousands in Sumatra and in 2008,thousands died in China because of another severe earthquake.Egypt was hit in 2009 with a major earthquake and Haiti was devastated in 2010 by yet another massive earthquake.Within just the last few months, new reports from around the world have been coming in and most agree that our climate situation is much worse than previously thought. At this point,it doesn’t matter what is causing it,but rather, what can be done about it.What’s more, our world is getting more and more unstable every year. There is war and threat of war everywhere.Natural disasters are becoming more frequent and serious. However, other planets are experiencing global warming as well as our own and some scientists believe there may be some connection between this.No one knows anything for sure at this point because there is simply not enough data.【解题导语】本文是一篇说明文。

B(2015·扬州、南通、连云港市第二次调研考试)Consumers everywhere are faced with the same dilemma:given limited resources, what sorts of purchases are most likely to produce lasting happiness and satisfaction? Recent research has confirmed that experiential purchases tend to produce greater hedonic (享乐的)gains than material purchases. The reason why experiences improve with time may be because it is possible to think about experiences in a more abstract manner than possessions. For example,if you think back to a fantastic summer from your youth, you might easily remember an abstract sense of warm sunshineand youthful exuberance(生气勃勃),but you’re less likely to remember exactly what you did day-by-day.Material possessions are harder to think about in an abstract sense. The car you bought is still a car, that great new jacket you picked up cheap is still just a jacket. It’s more likely the experience of that summer has taken on a symbolic meaning that can live longer in your memory than a possession.Purchasing may have a negative impact on happiness because consumers often buy “joyless”material possessions, resulting in comfort but not pleasure. In general, people adapt to experiences more slowly than to material purchase. This can be seen in both negative and positive purchases:hedonic adaptation would result in a positive experience causing more happiness but a negative experience causing less happiness than the comparable material purchase with the same initial happiness level.Experience, however, seems to be more resistant to these sorts of unfavourable comparisons. It is because of the unique nature of experience. It’s more difficult to make an unfavourable comparison when there is nothing directly comparable. After all, each of our youthful summers is different. It’s well established that social comparisons can have a huge effect on how we view what might seem like positive events. One striking example is the finding that people prefer to earn $50,000 a year while everyone else earns $25,000,instead of earning $100,000 themselves and having other people earn $200,000.A similar effect is seen for possessions. When there are so many flatscreen HD TVs to choose from,it’s easy to make unfavourable comparisons between our choice and the others available.【解题导语】本文是一篇说明文。
