She found that students often told her how much stronger and more resilient (有适应力的) they were thanks to stand up comedy.Inspired, she teamed up with the NHS in Bristol to create a six-week comedy course for patients struggling with trauma in January 2022. Following the success of this initial course, Comedy on Referral won NHS funding to help men with trauma in London.Talking to the Bristol Post, Belcher said, “Past traumas are perfect for comedy. Comedy doesn’t come from the happy, perfect moments of your life, but from our everyday struggles and major life events. People who’ve been through big life experiences such as losing a loving one and ill health often can’t wait to tell me their story, mostly because there’s always something especially funny about the situation.”Research has shown that laughter has positive psychological effects, such as decreasing levels of cortisol—the stress hormone—and increasing endorphins (内啡肽). It can even have physiological benefits, although less research has been done in this area. Current research haslinked laughter and humour with increased levels of pain tolerance as well as short-term cardiovascular benefits. More research is needed to prove these findings.Nonetheless, the mental health benefits of regular laughter are widely accepted, and using comedy to treat mental health struggles could be a real breakthrough in the treatment of mental health.8.Why is the phrase mentioned in paragraph 1?A.To stress the importance of laughter.B.To explain the harm trauma causes. C.To show the effect of stand up comedy.D.To state the idea behind Comedy on Referral.9.How was the first six-week comedy course for patients?A.Ambiguous.B.Effective.C.Controversial.D.Fruitless. 10.What may contribute to a comedy according to Belcher?A.Happy moments.B.Funny moments.C.Struggling moments.D.Successful moments.11.What is the text?A.A news report.B.A book review.C.A comedy story.D.A diary entry.Dogs are capable of understanding the emotions behind an expression on a human face. The study is the latest to reveal just how connected dogs are with people. The research also provides evidence that dogs use different parts of their brains to process human emotions. By living in close contact with humans, dogs have developed specific skills that enable them to interact and communicate efficiently with people. Recent studies have shown that the dogs’ brain can pick up on emotional clues contained in a person’s voice, body smell and posture, and read their faces. In this study, the authors watched what happened when they presented photographs of the same two adults’ faces(a man and a woman) to 26 feeding dogs. The images were placed strategically to the sides of the animals’ line of sight and the photos showed a human faceex-pressing one of the six basic human emotions:anger,fear,happiness,sadness,surprise,dis-gust or being neutral. The dogs showed greater response and cardiac(心脏的)activity when shownphoto-graphs that expressed arousing emotional states such as anger, fear and happiness. They also took longer to resume feeding after seeing these images. The dogs’ increased heart rate indicated that in these cases they experienced higher levels of stress. In addition, dogs tended to turn their heads to the left when they saw human facesex-pressing anger, fear or happiness. The reverse happened when the faces looked surprised, possibly because dogs view it as a non-threatening, relaxed expression.“Clearly arousing, negative emotions seem to be processed by the right side of a dog’s brain, and more positive emotions by the left side,”says Siniscalchi. The results support that of other studies done on dogs and other mammals. These show that the right side of the brain plays a more important part in regulating the sympatheticout-flow to the heart. This is a fundamental organ for the control of the “fight orflight”Behavioral response necessary for survival.12.What does the new research show?A.People’s emotions are exactly revealed in dogs’ brains.B.Dog’s brains are highly affected by people’s emotions.C.Dogs own the natural ability to understand people’s emotions.D.Dogs treat human emotions with different sides of their brains.13.How do dogs form the skills to interact with people?A.By following certain orders.B.By being treated by their owners.C.By being closely connected with people.D.By recognizing different faces on pictures.14.Which can best replace the underlined word“reverse”in paragraph 4?A.opposite B.nervous C.rewarding D.similar 15.What may be a suitable title for the text?A.Dogs are living in close contact with peopleB.Dogs understand what’s written all over your faceC.Dogs’ heart rate increases when experiencing stressD.Negative emotions affect dogs’ returning to feeding二、七选五If you’re shy or anxious by nature, you may worry you’re not a good conversationalist. It’s important to stay engaged in any conversation,so the other person feelsvalued.____16____. I handed her the water bottle as she sat on a fallen log and took a break. "You know, I think we're almost to the top," I told her. "You already said that three times, and we're not there yet. " she replied. She grumbled another complaint as we continued on. She might not have been happy, but at least I was proud that she had the determination not to quit before we reached the top.
Jannie looked up, noticing we were no longer under the trees. When she stopped, looked釭ound and saw where we were, her jaw dropped, her eyes opened wide and she shouted: "Oh, I don't believe it. We're on top of the world. It's awesome ! " A refreshing breeze brushed the mountaintop, not a cloud was in the sky and miles and miles of trees and lakes spread out below us. We sat on a large rock and took in the view, while eating our sandwiches and pointing out islands and roads and, of course, the cottage where we were staying. It had taken us almost an hour to make the climb, but it was worth it.
