To me, he is a fourteen-year-old kid named Joe, with blond hair and blue eyes. To others, he is different. Where I see a kid who just needs a lot more attention, others see a mentally disabled boy, a kid who cannot walk or talk or think for himself. I see someone who just makes daily routine a bit less routine. Others see an annoyance, a bother. This is not to say that I have never felt resentful(怨恨的)toward Joe. He is my brother, and with that comes responsibility. “Gina, could you stay in tonight and watch your brother?”“Gina, do me a favor and feed him dinner and change his diaper(尿布)later, please?”“Could you come home right after school today and get Joe off the bus?”These are phrases that I have heard since I was twelve. And sure, they have made me resent my brother to a certain extent. I would think: that’s not fair! Everyone else can stay after and be a member of this club, or get extra help from that teacher. Or, all my friends are going out tonight, why can’t I? And,how come I have to feed him? He’s not my son! However, the small amount of resentment I feel toward my brother is erased a thousand times over by what I have learned from him. Besides making me responsible from a young age, and helping me be more accepting of all kinds of people, he has taught me to be thankful for what I have.I know that there are moments in my life that I should cherish and that Joe will never experience. He will never laugh so hard that he cries. He will never feel the glory of a straight-A report card. He will never comfort a best friend crying on his shoulder. And he will never know how much his family love him.Because he will never know, it is up to me to know, every second, how lucky I am. It is up to me to realize that life should be lived to its fullest, and that you should always, always be grateful that God, or whoever are the powers that be, gave you the ability to live your life the way you were meant to live it.60. We know from the first paragraph that Gina's brother .A. causes trouble to neighborsB. pays more attention to othersC. lives with mental disabilityD. considers daily routine a bother61. If Mother asks Gina to look after her brother now, what will she probably answer?A. I'm afraid not.B. No problem!C. It depends.D. It’s not fair!62. The passage intends to tell us that we should .A. value the glory of successB. appreciate what life gives usC. comfort unfortunate peopleD. treasure meaningful momentsCEven as Google plans to test its fleet(车队)of self-driving cars on public roads this summer, its business model remains a bit of a mystery. By 2025 , as many as 250,000 self-driving vehicles could be sold each year globally, according to a study by an industry research firm."Vehicles that can take anyone from A to B at the push of a button could transform mobility for millions of people,” said Chris Urmson, director of Google’s self-driving car project. For now, Google has no plans to sell any of its self-driving cars. They are strictly for research. But they will hit public roads thissummer near Google’s headquarters in Mountain View, California. Previous testing has taken place only on closed courses. The cars are built to operate without a steering wheel, accelerator(油门)or brake pedal. “Our software and sensors do all the work,” Urmson said. “The vehicles will be very basic—we want to Iearn from them and adapt them as quickly as possible—but they will take you where you want to go at the push of a button. ”The prototypes (雏形)are the first of a 100-car fleet the tech giant is building. In the long run, Urmson sees a future of safer roads—the majority of auto accidents are caused by human error—and fewer traffic jams. Robotic cars could also shuttle people who can’t drive because of age or illness.Google has said that self-driving cars could launch new business models in which people buy the use of vehicles they don’t own. The company has already tested other types of self-driving cars on public streets, including modified Lexus sport-utility vehicles, under a special permit program by the California Department of Motor Vehicles that requires a human driver at the controls. The state has issued six other companies permits to operate such cars, including Delphi, Mercedes-Benz, Volkswagen, Tesla, Bosch and Nissan. The vehicles that will be tested on open roads this summer will have removable steering wheels, accelerator and brake pedals to allow “safety drivers” to take control if needed.Google says the cars are safe. The vehicles have sensors that “ can detect objects out to a distance of more than two football fields in all directions, which is especially helpful on busy streets with lots of intersections,”Urmson said. “We’re looking forward to learning how the community understands and interacts with the vehicles, and to uncovering challenges that are unique to a fully self-driving vehicle,”Urmson said.63. The passage informs us that self-driving cars .A. will probably decrease traffic jamsB. have already passed necessary testsC. have been purchased by some companiesD. will be able to communicate with drivers64. According to Chris Urmson, .A. software and sensors are vital for self-driving carsB. self-driving cars can give driving orders to humansC. self-driving cars are specially designed for the elderlyD. ordinary vehicles will be replaced by self-driving cars65. The underlined word “intersections” in the last paragraph probably means .A. accidentsB. buildingsC. crossingsD. vehicles66. What is the best title for this passage?A. Self-driving Car Avoids Human ErrorsB. Self-driving Car Meets New ChallengesC. Google’s Self-driving Car Enjoys Global PopularityD. Google’s Self-driving Car Graduates to City StreetsDIt’s rare that you see the words “shyness”and “leader”in the same sentence. After all,the common viewpoint is that those outgoing and sociable guys make great public speakers and excellent networkers and that those shy people are not. A survey conducted by USA Today referred to 65 percent of executives who believed shyness to be a barrier to leadership. Interestingly, the same article stresses that roughly 40 percentof leaders actually are quite shy—they’re just better at adapting themselves to situational demands. Bill Gates, Warren Buffet and Charles Schwab are just a few “innies. ”Unlike their outgoing counterparts who are more sensitive to rewards and risk-taking, shy people take a cautious approach to chance. Rather than the flashy chit-chat that defines social gatherings, shy people listen attentively to what others say and absorb it before they speak. They’re not thinking about what to say while the other person is still talking, but rather listening so they can learn what to say. Along the same lines, shy people share a common love of learning. They are intrinsically (内在地)motivated and therefore seek content regardless of achieving an outside standard.Being shy can also bring other benefits. Remember being in school and hearing the same kids contribute, until shy little Johnny, who almost never said a word, cut in? Then what happened? Everyone turned around to look with great respect at little Johnny actually talking. This is how shy people made good use of their power of presence: they “own”the moment by speaking calmly and purposefully, which translates to a positive image.Shyness is often related to modesty. Not to say that limelight-seekers aren’t modest, but shy people tend to have an accurate sense of their abilities and achievements. As a result, they are able to acknowledge mistakes, imperfections, knowledge gaps and limitations.Since shy people have a lower sensitivity to outside rewards than outgoing ones, they’re more comfortable working with little information and sticking to their inner desires. Shy people are also more likely to insist on finding solutions that aren’t primarily apparent. Don’t believe me? Maybe you’ll believe Albert Einstein, who once said,“It’s not that I’m so smart, it’s that I stay with problems longer. ” Obviously, finding certainty where uncertainty is typically popular is a huge plus for any successful person. The myth that shy people are less effective leaders than their outgoing fellows is just a misunderstanding. Make wise use of your personality strengths to lead your business no matter what side of the range you fall on.67. We can learn from Paragraph 2 that .A. shy people are sensitive to rewardsB. shy people care more about contentC. outgoing people are more careful about chancesD. outgoing people consider what to learn while listening68. The example of Johnny shows .A. shy people are likely to be modestB. hardworking students speak little in publicC. some students keep silent on purpose at schoolD. shy people may have an advantage in discussion69. We can learn from the underlined sentence in Paragraph 5 that .A. success results from devotionB. shyness contributes to popularityC. outside reward leads to insistenceD. uncertainty counts more than certainty70. The author supports his ideas mainly by .A. giving definitions and presenting research resultsB. explaining problems and providing solutionsC. quoting authorities and making evaluationsD. making contrasts and giving examples第二节(共5小题;每小题2分,共10分)Skin-to-skin Effort Aims to Cut Newborn DeathsA social media campaign has been launched in China to cut down the number of newborn babies who die in the first 24 hours of life. have a scent? When someone is hapy, can you smell it?You can usually tell when someone is happy based on seeing them smile, hearing them laugh or perhaps from receiving a big hug.But can youalso smell their happiness?Surprising new research suggests thathappiness does indeed have a scent, and that the experience of happiness can be transmitted through smell, reports Phys.org.For the study,12young men were shown videos meant to bring about a variety of emotions while researchers gathered sweat samples from them. All of the men were healthy and none of them were drug users or smokers, and all were asked to abstainfrom drinking or eating smelly foods during the study period. Those sweat samples were then given to 36equally healthy young women to smell, while researchers monitored their reactions.Only women were selected to smell the samples, apparently because previous research has shown that women have a better sense of smell than men and are also more sensitive to emotional signaling-though it's unclear why only men were chosen to produce the scents.Researchers found that the behavior of the women after smelling the scents-particularly their facial expressions-indicated a relationship between the emotional states of the men who produced the sweat and the women who sniffed them."Human sweat produced when a person is happy brings about a state similar to happiness in somebody who breathes this smell,"said study co-author Gun Semin,a professor at Koc University in Turkey. This is a fascinating finding because it not only means that happiness does have a scent, but that the scent is capable of transmitting the emotion to others. The study also found that other emotions, such as fear, seem to carry a scent too. This ensures previous research suggesting that some negative emotions have a smell, but it is the first time this has proved to be true of positive feelings.Researchers have yet to isolate(分离)exactly what the chemical compound for the happiness smell is,but you might imagine what the potential applications for such a finding could be.Happiness perfumes, for instance, could be invented.Scent therapies(香味疗法)could also be developed to help people through depression or anxiety.Perhaps the most surprising result of the study, however,is our broadened understanding of how emotions get communicated, and also how our own emotions are potentially managed through our social context and the emotional states of those around us.43.What is the main finding of the new research?______A.Men produce more sweats.B.Negative emotions have a smell.C.Pleasant feelings can be smelt out.D.Women have a better sense of smell.44.The underlined part"abstain from"in Paragraph 3probably means ______ .A.avoidB.practiceC.continueD.try45.What is the application value of the new research?______A.Perfumes could help people understand each other.B.Some smells could be developed to better our mood.C.Perfumes could be produced to cure physical diseases.D.Some smells could be created to improve our appearance.46.We can learn from the last paragraph that ______ .A.happiness comes from a scent of sweat。

By 2025;as many as 250;000 self-driving vehicles could besold each year globally; according to a study by an industry research firm.“Vehicles that can take anyone from A to B at the push of a button could transform mobility for millions of people;” said Chris Urmson; director of Google’s self-driving car project. For now;Google has no plans to sell any of its self-driving cars. They are strictly for research. But they will hit public roads this summer near Google’s headquarters in Mountain View; Ca lifornia. Previous testing has taken place only on closed courses. The cars are built to operate without a steering wheel; accelerator油门 or brake pedal. “Our software and sensors do allthe work;” Urmson said. “The vehicles will be very basic---we want to learn from them and adapt them as quickly as possible---but they will take you where you want to go at the push of a button.” The prototypes雏形 are the first of a 100-car fleet the tech giant is building. In the long run; Urmson sees a future of safer roads---the majority of auto accidents are caused by human error---and fewer traffic jams. Robotic cars could also shuttle people who can’t drive because of age or illness.Google has said that self-driving cars could launch new business models in which people buy the use of vehicles they don’t own. The company has already tested other types of self-driving cars on public streets; including modified Lexus sport-utility vehicles; under a special permit program by the California Department of Motor Vehicles that requires a human driver at the controls. The state has issued six other companies permits to operate such cars; including Delphi; Mercedes-Benz; Volkswagen; Tesla; Bosch and Nissan. The vehicles that will be tested on open roads this summer will have removable steering wheels; accelerator and brake pedals to allow “safety drivers” to take control if needed.Google says the cars are safe. The vehicles have sensors that “can detect objects out to a distance of more than two football fields in all directions; which is especially helpful on busy streets with lots of intersections;” Urmson said. “We’re looking forward to learning how the community understands and interacts with the vehicles; and to uncovering challenges that are unique to a fullyself-driving vehicle;” Urmson said.63. The passage informs us that self-driving cars _________.A. will probably decrease traffic jamsB. have already passed necessary testsC. have been purchased by some companiesD. will be able to communicate with drivers64. According to Chris Urmson; ____________.A. software and sensors are vital for self-driving carsB. self-driving cars can give driving orders to humansC. self-driving cars are specially designed for the elderlyD. ordinary vehicles will be replaced by self-driving cars65. The underlined word “intersection” in the last paragraphprobably means .A. accidentsB. buildingsC. crossingsD. vehicles66. What is the best title for this passageA. Self-driving Car Avoids Human ErrorsB. Self-driving Car Meets New ChallengesC. Google’s Self-driving Car Enjoys Global PopularityD. Google’s Self-driving Car Graduates to City StreetsDIt’s rare that you see the word s “shyness” and “leader” inthe same sentence. After all; the common viewpoint is that thoseoutgoing and sociable guys make great public speakers and excellent networkers and that those shy people are not. A survey conducted byUSA Today referred to 65 percent of executives who believed shynessto be a barrier to leadership. Interestingly; the same articlestresses that roughly 40 percent of leaders actually are quite shy---they’re just better at adapting themselves to situational demands.Bill Gates; Warren Buffet and Charles Schwab are just a few“innies.”Unlike their outgoing counterparts who are more sensitive torewards and risk-taking; shy people take a cautious approach tochance. Rather than the flashy chit-chat that defines socialgatherings; shy people listen attentively to what others say andabsorb it before they speak. They’re not thinking about what to saywhile the other person is still talking; but rather listening so theycan learn what to say. Along the same lines; shy people share acommon love of learning. They are intrinsically内在地motivated and therefore seek content regardless of achieving an outside standard.Being shy can also bring other benefits. Remember being in schooland hearing the same kids contribute; until shy little Johnny; whoalmost never said a word; cut in Then what happened Everyone turnedaround to look with great respect at little Johnny actually talking. This is how shy people made good use of their power of presence: they “own” the moment by speaking calmly and purposefully; whichtranslates to a positive image.Shyness is often related to modesty. Not to say that limelight-seekers aren’t modest; but shy people tend to have an accurate senseof their abilities and achievements. As a result; they are able to acknowledge mistakes; imperfections; knowledge gaps and limitations.Since shy people have a lower sensitivity to outside rewards than outgoing ones; they’re more comfortable working with littleinformation and sticking to their inner desires. Shy people are alsomore likely to insist on finding solutions that aren’t primarily apparent. Don’t believe me Maybe you’ll believe Albert Einstein;who once said; “It’s not that I’m so smart; it’s that I stay with problems longer.” Obviously; finding certainty where uncertainty is typically popular is a huge plus for any successful person. The myth that shy people are less effective leaders than their outgoing fellows is just a misunderstanding. Make wise use of your personality strengths to lead your business no matter what side ofthe range you fall on.67. We can learn from Paragraph 2 that ____________________.A. shy people are sensitive to rewardsB. shy people care more about contentC. outgoing people are more careful about chancesD. outgoing people consider what to learn while listening68. The example of Johnny shows ______________________.A. shy people are likely to be modestB. hardworking students speak little in publicC. some students keep silent on purpose at schoolD. shy people may have an advantage in discussion69. We can learn from the underlined sentence in Paragraph 5 that_______.A. success results from devotionB. shyness contributes to popularityC. outside reward leads to insistenceD. uncertainty counts more than certainty70. The author supports his ideas mainly by_______.A. giving definitions and presenting research resultsB. explaining problems and providing solutionsC. quoting authorities and making evaluationsD. making contrasts and giving examples第二节共5小题;每小题2分;共10分根据短文内容;从短文后的七个选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项..选项中有两项为多余选项..Skin-to-skin Effort Aims to Cut Newborn DeathsA social media campaign has been launched in China to cut downthe number of newborn babies who die in the first 24 hours of life. One possible version:
Dear Lisa,
How have you been? You must be enjoying your life back at home. We still miss the days we spent together.
In the last term, we all benefited a lot from your lessons. We improved our oral English and became more confident to express ourselves. In addition, we learned so much about western culture and tradition.
On behalf of my class, I would like to thank you for teaching usEnglish! We wish you joy and happiness in the new stage of life!
Yours,
Li Hua
四、One possible version:
Last Saturday, our class visited the Museum of the Anti-Japanese War.When our school bus arrived at the Museum, we got off and entered in line. The moment we went into the exhibition room, we were attracted bythe pictures and descriptions about the war on the wall. Some students took notes while others had a little discussion. We were shocked at the cruelty of the war. Then we gathered in another room and listened to an old soldier telling the stories about the war. Therefore, we had a better understanding of the history.
Before we left, we all came to the front of the museum and took a picture with the old soldier in memory of our visit. We were very glad to meet such a true hero.
We hope by visiting the museum more people can remember what happened in the war and treasure the peaceful life.。
