Lost in the story, I felt like being together with the characters and experiencing the same exciting events. Soon it came to an end. To tell you my feelings, its infinite sadness and a strong emotion that can driveme to cry.The story is set in London and Paris at the time of the great French Revolution. It shows the causes of revolution and its effects on peoples day-to-day lives. Before the revolution, the King and the aristocracy treated their people cruelly in France. The common people were extremely poor and miserable. The crops in the fields were poor as if even the land shared the misery of the people. And there were so heavy taxes that all the villagers had nothing to hand over at last. On the other hand, the aristocracy made their will as the law by using money and gold. There were no justice, no equality and no fairness. Just as what happened to Dr Manette,he wrote to the Minister to show the crime what Marquis Evremonde had done, resulting in himself being arrested and sent to the prison Bastille without any reason. Then this situation of darkness was needed to be changed. As people such as the Defarges prepared and arranged, at length the Revolution came to break out. When the Bastille was captured and the King was tried and put to death as well as many other aristocrats, things didnt go on as what they had been expected. The situation stayed the same, or even worse. The prisoners from the Bastille were set free while more prisons were filled with people who had done no wrong again. People who once lived on the bottom of class took the charge now and their heart had been full of evil. The only thing they wanted to do was to revenge. And these so-called "patriots" would like to see more and more innocent prisoners going to the guillotine and thats their joy. As the novel wrote,” In everything they did were merciless, for they had been hardened in the fires of suffering and the touch of pity could make no mark on them".Equality and fairness is what people seek, which led to theFrench Revolution. As a consequence, neither equality nor fairness was got after the revolution. And thats the tragedy of the history.I was heavyhearted when reading what Sydney Carton said before death and I burst into tears finally.双城记(A tale of two cities)英文读后感3A tale of two cities is written by Charles Dickens, one of Americas greatest writers. He was born in 1812 in Portsmouth and died in 1870. He was born poor, but soon after his unhappy childhood he became rich and successful. He also wrote many famous novels, such as oliver twist. Great expectations and so on.The tale of a tale of two cities was written in 1775. In a room above a tavern in Paris, there was a white-haired man who was busy making shoes. He had been a prisoner in the bastille for 18 years. Now he was a free man, yet he did not know his name, and he did not eat his friends. All he knew was that he had to keep making shoes. On a bus to Paris, she sat on lucie, the daughter she had never seen before. Lucie brought her father back to London, and, with the love and care of her daughter, he forgot about the past and learned to live as a free man.Yet during the stormy years of the French revolution, the past was neither lost nor forgotten. And so soon the danger secretly brought lucie and the people she loved back to Paris... There was the horrible death machine - the guillotine waiting for the enemies of France. The protagonist here is clearly debunking the darkness and corruption of the society at that time. One original for the 18 years as a prisoner, what also dont remember the man, then is he had never met the daughter "back to London, started a free life, but in the end, his daughter and she loved ones were returned toParis of darkness, by the French enemies killed!双城记(A tale of two cities)英文读后感4My Opinions About A Tale of Two CitiesA Tale of Two Cities was written by Charles Dickens, who was born in Portsmouth, England in 1812. As the second of eight children, Dickens had to go to work at the age of twelve to support his poor family, and he lived a difficult childhood. This troublesome time scarred him deeply and provided him with substantial material for such stories as Oliver Twist, David Copperfield, and Great Expectations. Though just accepted only little education, Dickens became a famous writer through his struggling self-learning and extremely hard work, and he was the representative writer of realism in the 19th century.Charles Dickens lived in the period of transition between feudalism and capitalism, when the industrial revolution originated in England swept through Europe. As large numbers of workers invaded into urban centers to earn a living, the bourgeois took advantages of the surplus of labor by keeping wages low. The poor thus remained poor, and often lived in a narrow and filthy environment. Dickens’ writing depicted various directions about this society, and provided a keen, sympathetic chronicle of the plight of the urban poor.A Tale of Two Cities mainly about the great atrocities of French aristocrats compelled the poor citizens to resist violently. Doctor Manette spent eighteen years as a prisoner in Bastille because he intended to expose the atrocity after learning that M arquis Evrémonde killed a beautiful farmwife and her younger brother because of his brother’s lust. After Doctor Manette was free again, his daughter Lucie got married with Charles Darnay, Marquis Evrémonde’s nephew, but chose to livein England because he could not accept the cruel injustices of the French social system and the snobbish and cruel values of his uncle. However, Marquis Evrémonde continued his atrocities. After his crazy carriage crushed over a farmer’s little baby as if nothing happen, he was killed at night. A revolutionary storm was brewing. Mr. and Mrs.Defarge were the revolutionaries in the poor Saint Antoine section of Paris. They wanted to kill all French aristocrats, including Charles Darnay. Mr.Defarge used to be Doctor Manette’s serv ant, so he was kind to Manettes, while his wife’s heart burned with longing for revenge. At last, Charles Darnay was judged to death, But Sydney Carton, a lawyer who loved Lucie deeply, willing to die instead of Darnay, as they had similar appearance. From my personal point of view, the person A Tale of Two Cities described astounded me very much. Some of them were cruel, crazy and reasonless, while some of them were kind, moral and had own mind.Sydney Carton was the person I thought the most. He was a smart attorney, without his help, Mr. Stryver could not solve any cases. But he was lazy, alcoholic, and cared nothing and nobody, he even could not find any interests in his own life, it seems that he lived just for wasting life. But he loved Lucie deeply. Finally, he became a hero, because he sacrificed his life to save Darnay.I didn’t know why the author spent so many words to form sucha strange guy at frist, he used his life to love Lucie, after all. But now, I caught it. Perhaps the terrible Carton symbolized the terrible old France, and his change in the end shown that everything could change, including the old France, a new and fine society would replace the violence. Then, Charles Darnay. He was worthy of esteem or respect. He displayed great virtue in his rejection of his uncle, Marquis Evrémonde. Money and power meant nothing to him, if they came from exploitation and oppression. Even though he had to inherit his uncle’s bequest, he left them to the poor and lived in London throught his own effort. When he realized that he must go back to Paris to help Gabelle, one of his servants, and make right the wrong his uncle had done, he acted without hesitation because he knew that was his duty. He even refused Carton’s help after he was judged to death. I thought, Charles Darnay was a shiny diamond in that cruel and violent society, and he was a hope, the hope of equality and peace.Third, Mrs.Defarge. How crazy this woman was. Nobody could stop her steps toward revenge, except the death. Although it said that wherever there is oppression, there is resistance, I didn’t agree with Mrs.Defarge totally. Her resistance was inhumane, insensible and endless. For just as the aristocracy’s oppression had made an oppressor Mrs.Defarge herself, so will her oppression, in turn, make oppressors her victims. In the end of the novel, her death by a bullet from her own gun. It shown theauthor’s belief that inordinate retaliated lust would destroy one own self.On the whole, A T ale of Two Cities is a successful novel. It shows us oppression and resistance, violence and terror, revolution and vengeance, love and friendship.I am lucky enough to live in the 21st century, when peace and development are pursued all along. Nowadays, there also are many problems and dissensions among this world, but violence does not the best way problems are solved. Violence just creates more problems, something every sensible person knows. Whatwe need are talks and communication. The time A Tale of Two Cities mentions has gone, we should do enough preparation to adapt the coming age.双城记(A tale of two cities)英文读后感5This holiday, I used my spare time to read dickenss "a tale of two cities", also have some understanding, I will write down my feelings.1. Plot arrangement. The plot of this book is very mysterious, and the author concatenates all kinds of clues, as mentioned in the article, "weaving" becomes the novel. The greatest feature of the novel is the complexity of the characters, such as the relationship between Dr Manette and danan; The relationship between Mrs D urberge and dannan - the two relations directly led to the final tragedy. And the relationship between Mr. Lorry and Mr. DE hair, and the relationship between the pass and the spy, and so on. These complex figures link the work of this book. One of the most distinctive chapters of the book is a conversation with a little girl before his death, which thoroughly reveals that the revolutionary masses are too crazy and that the good will live on for ever.2. Characters. The most important character in the book is Charles daran (evmond). He was a very conflicted man, and he hated his father and uncle very much, but he had to support the whole family business. So when the old servant wrote to him, he had to return to France. He was a kind man, possessed of the civility of a nobleman, and when he met his uncle, he made it clear that he could not persecute the people. At the same time, he gave up the privileges of the nobility, which was a good deed.Sydney Carton was also an important figure. I have never liked this casual, lazy character in the first half of the novel. But in the process of reading later, I found him to be an aggressive and resourceful person. Although it is "friend", but actually caton and south relationship is not so good, but for the sake of the family happiness drops of life, caton willing to the guillotine, let fled south, and the embodiment of the eternal good. In the article, carton died "like a prophet".Mr And Mrs D arge also belong to the books focus. He was a good man, and he took Dr Manette, and told his wife after the revolution that he would accept it. She was an avenger, and she had been persecuted by the evremonde brothers, so she wanted to kill all the French aristocrats. Of course, because of her violent behaviour, she died in the hands of miss pross.3. Writing features. This novel is very humorous, and the author has been using dialectical relations and repeated techniques to achieve this effect. Therefore, this touching novel can still be read with great laughter. One of the features of the article is that the last author "helps carton express his feelings". The author used catons language to show the end of the article, telling people that "kindness is forever in the world".Thats how I read the novel.双城记(A tale of two cities)英文读后感6A tale of two cities in this paper, the human nature thought what I touch, such as Charles Dickens wrote, he to his "sacred goal" and give up the position and property, and this in "resurrection" Xia He leave Christopher, as high; In order to save him into knowing unusually dangerous prison, he was the "stack"tiger, to "the lofty spirit is worth learning, not afraid of hard, dont give the evil forces, for the sake of the truth, regardless of life to save people, and I really admire him.In the ordinary in the novel, I saw a lot of different people, honest good matei, doctors, Lucy beautiful generous, elegant noble, loyal Charles lowry, distorts the life of Germanys wife, appearance indifference, inner passion Sidney, gracious miss PuLuoShi, cruel and wicked Mr Howe brothers. In this book the author distorts the history, uglifies the feudal aristocracy, the fact is not completely. Many scenarios, such as the horse knight doctors have imprisoned blank warrant, are risking their lives to save Charles still, a doctor, the leader of the people of Britain for fear of the other countries, said: "the French nobility oppress people". In order to buy off chert, with high status and wealth, he did not lose his money, and he improved the story of the tireless efforts of the oppressed. The main expression is love and kindness, reflecting good and evil boobs, love and hate, and finally the author says, "love always conquers hate". Evil is always a flash in the pan, and all must die with the evil one, and the good is everlasting. It reveals the social aspect of England comprehensively; The darkness of parliamentary politics, the doting of the ruling institutions, the evils of the money society, the poverty of the masses. With a story to deal with their contemporaries called for the authorities and the public, tyranny would cause violence, crisis near in the day, the rich should have merciful, bleeding can cause more more blood flow.双城记(A tale of two cities)英文读后感7The report of the A Tale of Two CitiesRecently, I read a tale of two cities. I think that it’s a good novel.First, I want to introduce the author of this book .His name is Charles Dickens, he is an outstanding writer. He is one of the greatest writers in the 19 century. However, he had a painful childhood. He was arrested when he was 10 years old due to household debt. He had only a few years of learning. So, in his early years, his works are more about the painful children. He criticized the black of capitalism and had the sympathy for the poor. Now, let me introduce this novel. The background of this book is the French revolution. Before the revolution, the young doctor .Manette witnessed the guilty of the French marquis. So he was arrested in the Bastille by the marquis. After two years, his wife died. His daughter Lucie was send to London by his friends Lorry and adopted by the Miss Pross who is a maidservant. After 18 years, he was released from the Bastille and was taken care by his old servant Defarge. His daughter wanted to take his father to London. In the travel, she met the son of the marquis Charles Darnay who hated the guilty of his father and uncle. Then they loved each other. And now, Charles Dannay’s father had died, so manette wanted to forget the painful memory and hoped his daughter happy. So he agreed with them. In 1789, France break the revolution. All of the marquises was send to the guillotine. Because the Darnay was a marquis. So the Defarge read the report which was written by the doctor. Then Dannay was sentenced to death. Now Carton who always hidden loved Lucie went to the prison and he pretended Dannay. So Dannay escaped the prison. And carton was killed. However Madame Defarge still not gave up. She wanted to killed Dannay’s wife Lucie and their young child; finally she was burned by the pross. After read this novel, let me know about the French revolution. I think the people who lived in that period were not lucky. The poor were very sad. They were too blindness. And I was moved the carton, he died for his love, and I like him very much. 双城记(A tale of two cities)英文读后感8"This is the best of times and the worst of times." The first sentence of a tale of two cities is quoted numerous times. But I guess the man who knows this sentence and the novel "tale of two cities" tells a story, and does not know why. If you want to understand the original meaning of this sentence, and why you write this classic sentence, it is natural to read the original."In short, that era is so similar to todays." This sentence actually explains the two questions of the above classic sentence: why do you say that, and to whom? This is one of the reasons why the novel was born, dickens hope that through such a novel, by describing the French revolution brought disaster to the people to express their own worry, warn the dangerous situation at the same time. A revolutionary history, two cities representing two countries, a few wind and rain people, constitute the main elements of the novel.Although the tale of a tale of two cities is a classic novel, it is considered to be the authors view of history because it explicitly states that the revolutionary background is the French revolution. And that is the focus of countless controversies over the novel. In the novel, dickens showed the cruelty of the aristocracy, but also showed the irrational destruction of the revolutionary masses. The revolution, he argued, was a kind of oppression that replaced another kind of oppression, and a bloodbath that was a direct and heavy one instead of another. A series of depictions of the storming of the bastille and of the mob - bloody, brutal, cunning, malevolent - is the most striking aspect of the novel.Dickens has devoted a great deal of ink to the evil of the mob, showing his abhorrence of the mob and, in a certain degree, the hatred of the revolution. Of course, as a humanist, dickens also points out the cure for the world: love. This kind of love, embodied in the novel includes family love, love, friendship and such private feelings, also includes the abandonment of the aristocracy, the salvation of the kind of fraternity. Among them, the most brilliant is the description of cartons love.I like carton very much. In fact, carton was the embodiment of dickens, and dickens was the first to think of the man and the spirit of his body to conceive the novel. So, what was carton like? The novel describes: "the sun is sad and mournful, and the rising of sorrow, the sight unseen, is nothing worse than this man. He is talented and emotional, but he has no opportunity to show his talent. He cant do anything, and he cant make his own happiness. He knew his problem, but he resigned himself to his fate, and he wasted all his time, year after year.It is a young man who has lost his talent and youth. The novel does not appear to have been explained, since he has appeared in the first place, and has not written much about his family background. Personally, this man represents dickens himself, so he does not need to describe too much - the fall of carton comes from his frustration with the deteriorating society. He went up to the guillotine and said, "I see the evil of this age, and the evil of the former times, which has caused this evil, and I have gradually died for my SINS."Pessimists - caton, was rejected by his friends meet with difficulties, in the love of a womans husband is about to be guillotined in when he suddenly appeared, be dont save thesituation, do price with his own life, in the Nick of time to make a replace plan to rescue his beloved womans husband. It is not the love of Christ, who has redeemed his sin and died. In fact, in the novel, carton did indeed say, in the biblical tone, "the resurrection is in me, the life is in me, and the man who believes in me, though dead, will rise again. And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. This is the medicine that dickens prescribed for "the worst of times", but it is, after all, an ideal. It is said that the tale of a tale of two cities is an immortal work without Sidney. The existence and behavior of carton, the novel loses its value and brilliance.双城记(A tale of two cities)英文读后感9The author of this book is dickens. Born in 1812, he was the second son of a naval officer, John dickens and Elizabeth barlow. The book says that poor Dr Manette, who had been imprisoned in the bastille prison for 19 years by the aristocracy, moved him to live in England. In the court, the father and daughter met the French nobleman darley and the ruined master carton. Later, Lucy and caton got married and lived happily for ten years. After the French revolution, gray was arrested for rescuing innocent servants from the French aristocracy. And carton, in keeping with his promise to Lucy, made use of his resemblance to darley, and replaced him with the guillotine before darley was executed.Novel through typical case is highly generalization to expose the eve of the French revolution, Britains social status, on the one hand is high is the ruling class of cruelty, on the one hand, the masses of working people under the exploitation and oppression of the feudal aristocracy led a very miserable life, thus profoundlyreveals the revolution is inevitable.双城记(A tale of two cities)英文读后感10Borrow a book the other day the world of super thick masterpiece a tale of two cities, took a few chapters later, I also decide it, really boring, and dont understand, today I borrowed it to lose weight, managed to finish it. Characters in the book a lot, but the characters of all kinds of relationship and then to my unexpected, the protagonist is a former prisoners in the bastille for 18 years horse nate doctor, her daughter, Lucy, and his son Charles...Britain and France is known as the twins, the background of the novel, that is, the French revolution, I learn history, about the French revolution was clear to me, to contact in the novel, I really want to ask, is that true? Novel, mostly fiction, look after, gave me the impression is: the vicious wisely hot lady, innocent Charles, have nothing to say in the west, better ` cardan Sir, faithful maid miss pross, warm-hearted Mr Jarvis ` Laurie...I am a good man always has a good will, for the bad guys always have a feeling of disgust, not surprisingly, everyone like this, unless he is a good man, to bad people with kindness heart, or that he is a super big, bad, the good person always have a feeling that "they good false!" In fact, this is not strange, the fact is so! A bunch of hypocrites. Well thermal couple to find Lucy, thought to help her husband Charles, was hurt her husband in prison again, and eventually lead to the death of Mr Cardan. I think Mr Cardan very handout spirit, heavy sentiment, the first time he saw Lucy he fell in love with her, although the profession was rejected, but still cant change love for her, and finally to Lucy and her husband together, in order to Lucy is no longer sad tears, he went to prison and Charles switched, changed Lucyshappiness with his own life, he couldnt help but feel what touched me most is a character.双城记(A tale of two cities)英文读后感11After reading "A tale of two cities" "A tale of two cities" is one of Dickenss most important representative works. The novel profoundly exposed the society contradiction before the French Revolution, intensely attacks the aristocratic social class is dissolute and cruel, and sincerely sympathizes with the depressed classes. The novel also described many magnificent scenes like the revolt people attacked Bastille and so on,which displayed peoples great strength. The novel has portrayed many different people. Doctor Manette is honest and kind but suffers the persecution actually , Lucie is beautiful and gentle ,Charles is graceful and noble,Lorry is upright and honest ,Sydney is semblance of indifferent, innermost feelings of warm, unconventional but also selfless and lofty,Miss Pross is straightforward and loyal,Evremonde brothers are cruel and sinister. The complex hatred is hard to solve, the cruel revenge has made more hatreds, loves rebirth in the hell edge, but take the life as the price. As an outstanding writer,in Dickenss work, the language skill is essential. Each kind of rhetoric technique, like the analogy, the exaggeration, the contrast, the humorous, and the taunt are handled skillfully, and the artistry of the work is also delivered the peak."A tale of two cities" has its difference with the general historical novel, its character and the main plot are all fictionalizes. With the broad real background of the French Revolution, the author take the fictional character Doctor Manettes experience as the main clue, interweaves the unjust charge, upholstery and so many techniques, causes the structureintegrity and strictness, the plot winding anxious and rich of theatrical nature,it displayed the remarkable artistic skill.the style "A tale of two cities" is solemnity and melancholy, fills indignantion, but lacks the humor of the early works.双城记(A tale of two cities)英文读后感12"A tale of two cities" is hailed as the most outstanding representative of the French revolution, and I think the biggest reason may be because it is different. Unlike other works, such as Carlisles "the French revolution", dickens was more concerned with the joys and sorrows of the people at the bottom. In those days, though, the little figures themselves did not draw the worlds attention. But the authors keen capture of these little figures and the great revolution is inextricably linked, and arguably the French revolution itself was inspired by the power of the little people. The French revolution was a mark of blood in human history. In that chaotic era, full of uncertainty; In such a state of disorder, all human nature is revealed. A tale of two cities by the French revolution as the background, through to race hatred between civilians and conflict, the author want to convey the dickens -- - unable to wash away hatred, blood cannot replace love -- - more aristocratic tyranny to civilians caused pain will not heal, because blood civilians to hatred cannot replace love for lost relatives. In the story, Dr Menet was freed from prison to live with his daughter in London.Five years later, they testified in court for the French youth, Charles Darnay, who married darnay in love. In 1792, the French revolution broke out and the scene moved to France. Darnay, who had been arrested and sentenced to death for being a descendant of the aristocracy, had been in love with Lucys English。

Set during the turbulent times of the French Revolution, the story is centered around the lives of two cities – London and Paris, and the intertwined destinies of the characters. One of the most striking features of this novel is the vivid and descriptive language used by Dickens. He beautifully captures the sights, sounds, and smells of both cities, creating an immersive experience for the reader. The imagery he uses to describe the poverty and filth of Paris, in particular, is both haunting and powerful. The characters in A Tale of Two Cities are well-developed and nuanced. Each character has their own unique story and motivations, making them all the more relatable. The love story between Lucie Manette and Charles Darnay is especially heartwarming and adds a touch of romance to the otherwise grim tale. However, what truly sets this novel apart is its exploration of sacrifice.

A Tale of Two Cities is one of Dickens’s masterpieces; the story is an exposure of the contradiction before France Revolution-the appealing of “Liberty, Equality, Fraternity” by France lower class.Sydney CartonWhen I read the chapter pertaining to interrogation on Charles Darney, intuition tells that the lawyer assistant who feels at ease with his eyes fixed on the ceiling must be a very special man, which turned out to be right when I finished the whole book. He seems indifferent about everything, even his love. He is brilliant but he thinks otherwise, or rather, he thinks he is inferior to others. 雾都孤儿英文读后感篇1Oliver Twist is written by Charles Dickens.Charles Dickens is one of the greatest writers in the England. He was born in a poor family, but later he became famous and rich. The famous novel --A Tale of Two Cities is written by him, too. This novel shows us the cruelty and crime of London. Oliver Twist, the hero, is a poor orphan. He lived in a life filled with taunts. Nobody loved him. With visions of his future, he decided to go to London. He thought a new life was coming, but he was wrong, a group of thieves were waiting for him.The author created a group of bad men.Fagin, an old man, with a horribly ugly face and red hair, was the head of those thieves. He tried to make Oliver be a criminal.Bill Sikes was a cruel and evil man in the group. He had a bad temper.Monks, Oliver’s brother, did bad things to hurt Oliver. He wanted to get the legacies left by his father alone. He paid Fagin to trap Oliver into a life of crime. In fact, they were all afraid of being put into prison and being hanged. They can’t live happily.Nancy, a poor girl, loved a bad man. She had to help Bill Sikes perpetrate, because she loved him. She had to be loyal to the criminal group, because she loved him. Actually, she was kind. She helped Oliver at the risk of her life. If she hadn’t fell in lovewith Sikes, she would have a happy ending. The author showed these ugly things to us, he described an ugly world. But there are more kind people in the novel.Mr. Brownlow, an old friend of Oliver’s father, took good care of Oliver.Mrs. Maylie, Harry Maylie’s mother, saved Oliver of his l ife.Miss Rose is the aunt of Oliver, in fact. They all protect Oliver from hurt.Oliver was unlucky to meet so many evil people, but he was luckier to get help from so many kind people. In the end of the novel, all the evil people were punished. Oliver got what he should get. Rose married Harry Maylie and they lived happily. All the kind people have a happy ending.Righteousness can always beat evil. I think this is what the author wants to tell. Although there are many ugly things in the world, we must believe that righteousness can always beat evil.We must store kindness even though we are in ugly situation. One is poor if he doesn’t have kindness. One is rich if he has kindness. So please store your kindness in your mind. What’s more, the novel also t ells us to be brave. Oliver was brave enough to overcome all the problems he had met. No matter how difficult the problem is, we can’t give up, we must try our best to solve it.From Oliver Twist , I have learnt a lot .It’s really a good novel.雾都孤儿英文读后感篇2The author who himself was born in a poor family wrote this novel in his twenties with a view to reveal the ugly masks of those cruel criminals and to expose the horror and violence hidden underneath the narrow and dirty streets in London. The hero of this novel was Oliver Twist, an orphan, who was thrown into aworld full of poverty and crime. He suffered enormous pain, such as hunger, thirst, beating and abuse. While reading the tragic experiences of the little Oliver, I was shocked by his sufferings. I felt for the poor boy, but at the same time I detested the evil Fagin and the brutal Bill. To my relief, as was written in all the best stories, the goodness eventually conquered devil and Oliver lived a happy life in the end.One of the plots that attracted me most is that after the theft, little Oliver was allowed to recover in the kind care of Mrs. Maylie and Rose and began a new life. He went for walks with them, or Rose read to him, and he worked hard at his lessons. He felt as if he had left behind forever the world of crime and hardship and poverty. How can such a little boy who had already suffered oppressive affliction remain pure in body and mind? The reason is the nature of goodness.I think it is the most important information implied in the novel by Dickens-he believed that goodness could conquer every difficulty. Although I don’t think goodness is omnipotent, yet I do believe that those who are kind-hearted live more happily than those who are evil-minded.雾都孤儿英文读后感篇3One of Dickens most enduringly popular stories is Oliver Twist, an early work published 1837-8. Like many of his later novels, its central theme is the hardship faced by the dispossessed and those of the outside of tolite society. Oliver himself is born in a workhouse and treated cruelly there as was the norm at the time for pauper children, in particular by Bumble, a parish council official or eadle The story follows Oliver as he escapes the workhouse and runs away to London. Here he receives an education in villainy from the criminalgang of Fagin that includes the brutal thief Bill Sikes, the famous artful Dodger and Nancy, Bill whore. Oliver is rescued by the intervention of a benefactor - Mr Brownlow - but the mysterious Monks gets the gang to kidnap the boy again. Nancy intervenes but is murdered viciously by Sikes after she has showed some redeeming qualities and has discovered Monk sinister intention. The story closes happily and with justice for Bumble and the cruel Monks who has hidden the truth of Oliver parentage out of malice. Accusations were made that the book glamorised crime (like the ewgate Group of the period) but Dickens wisely disassociated himself from criminal romances. His achievement was in fact in presenting the underworld and problems of poverty to the well-off in a way rarely attempted previously.雾都孤儿英文读后感篇4Oliver Twist this world famous tells a moving story. The book of master is an orphan, his name is Oliver Twist. He was born in a workhouse, was born near his mother died. He was sent as an item sent, tortured. He finally met a kind old gentleman; brown Mr. Luo,he kindly took him,he lived a good life. But good times dont last long,Oliver unfortunately caught a thief in the second cave,Sykes stressed he participated in an expedition to steal, ended in failure, dying,or merry lady saved Oliver and kindly took him. After a period of time,Oliver live a happy life. After reading this book,my heart a long time can not quell. The poor Oliver,in the pain of losing family members also received so much. I dont know his emaciated body, with what will make him, unremittingly, make him hungry, cold, lonely, suffering under the tenacious struggle, advance to a better life!We live in the honeypot, the Fu nest, but always plaining, always satisfied. But we have thought,in the world, thereare many children, are suffering great pain and hunger, disease; operation; facing the loss of loved ones, lead a wandering life. They are full of the desire for life, love of life, but suffering and against them. So,we have to cherish their own happiness, with our hands and brain,to do a useful person for the motherland,to return the society.雾都孤儿英文读后感篇5Here I am sitting on a couch alone, thinking about what I have just finished reading with tears of sadness filling my eyes and fire of indignation filling my heart, which revived my exhausted soul that has already been covered by the cruelty and the selfishness of the secular world for a long time. It is truly what I felt after reading Oliver Twist, written by the prominent British author Charles Dickens. The resonance between me and the book makes me feel not only the kindness and the wickedness of all the characters in the novel, but what this aloof society lacks, and what I lack deep inside. These supreme resources I’m talking about right now are somewhat different from minerals, oil that we usually mention. They’re abstract like feelings, and some kinds of spiritual stimulation that all of us desire anxiously from one another ——love and care. Those charitable figures whom Dickens created in the novel are really what we need in life. They showed love and care to others, just as the gentle rain from the sky fell upon the earth, which was carved into my heart deeply.Mr. Brownlow is one such person.雾都孤儿英文读后感篇6How can such a little boy who had already suffered oppressive affliction remain pure in body and mind? The reasonis the nature of goodness. I think it is the most important information implied in the novel by Dickens-he believed that goodness could conquer every difficulty. Although I don’t think goodness is omnipotent, yet I do believe that those who are kind-hearted live more happily than those who are evil-minded.For me, the nature of goodness is one of the most necessary character for a person. Goodness is to humans what water is to fish. He who is without goodness is an utterly worthless person. On the contrary, as the famous saying goes, The fragrance always stays in the hand that gives the rose’, he who is with goodness undoubtedly is a happy and useful person. People receiving his help are grateful to him and he also gets gratified from what he has done, and thus he can do good to both the people he has helped and himself. To my disappointment, nowadays some people seem to doubt the existence of the goodness in humanity. They look down on people’s honesty and kindness, thinking it foolish of people to be warm-hearted. As a result, they show no sympathy to those who are in trouble and seldom offer to help others. On the other hand, they attach importance to money and benefit. In their opinion, money is the only real object while emotions and morality are nihility. If they cannot get profit from showing their ‘kindness’,they draw back when others are faced with trouble and even hit a man when he is down. They are one of the sorts that I really detest.Francis Bacon said in his essay, ‘Goodness, of all virtues and dignities of the mind, is the greatest, being the character of the Deity, and without it, man is a busy, mischievous, wretched thing, n o better than a kind of vermin.’。

Set in both London and Paris during the French Revolution, the novel weaves together the lives of its characters in a gripping and poignant narrative. Upon reading this novel, I found myself deeply moved by the story and the profound messages it conveys. One of the most striking aspects of A Tale of TwoCities is its exploration of the human capacity for love and sacrifice. The characters in the novel, particularly Sydney Carton and Charles Darnay, exemplify the transformative power of love and the willingness to make sacrifices for the greater good. 双城记英文版的读后感A Tale of Two Cities is a novel written by Charles Dickens. The story is set in London and Paris before and during the French Revolution. The novel follows the lives of several characters, including Charles Darnay, a French aristocrat, and Sydney Carton, a dissipated English lawyer. The novel explores themes of love, sacrifice, and the struggle for justice in a time of great social andpolitical upheaval. After reading A Tale of Two Cities, I was left with a deep sense of admiration for the way in which Charles Dickens was able to capture the essence of the French Revolution and the impact it had on the lives of ordinary people. The novel is a powerful exploration of the human capacity for both great evil and great good, and the waysin which individuals can rise above their circumstances to make a difference in the world. One of the most striking aspects of the novel is thecharacter of Sydney Carton. At the beginning of the story, Carton is portrayed as a dissolute and cynical man who has given up on life. However, as the story progresses, we seea transformation in Carton as he finds purpose and meaningin his life through his love for Lucie Manette. Carton's ultimate act of self-sacrifice, in which he takes the place of Darnay at the guillotine, is a powerful demonstration of the redemptive power of love and the capacity forindividuals to change and grow. The novel also explores the theme of resurrection, both in a literal and metaphorical sense. Throughout the story, characters are brought back from the brink of death, both physically and spiritually. The idea of resurrection serves as a powerful metaphor for the possibility of redemptionand renewal, even in the darkest of times. In addition to its exploration of universal themes, A Tale of Two Cities is also a gripping and suspenseful story. The novel is filled with dramatic twists and turns, and the tension builds steadily as the story reaches its climax. Dickens's vivid descriptions of the chaos and violence ofthe French Revolution are both harrowing and compelling, and the novel's conclusion is both tragic and uplifting.Overall, A Tale of Two Cities is a timeless classicthat continues to resonate with readers today. Its exploration of love, sacrifice, and the struggle forjustice is as relevant now as it was when the novel wasfirst published. The characters are complex and well-drawn, and the story is both thought-provoking and emotionally resonant. I would highly recommend A Tale of Two Cities to anyone who enjoys historical fiction or is interested in exploring the human condition. Charles Dickens's masterful storytelling and profound insights into the human experience make this novel a must-read for anyone who appreciates great literature.。

今天小编在这分享一些双城记英文读后感给大家,欢迎大家阅读!双城记英文读后感范文篇一Recently, I read a tale of two cities. After 18 years, he was released from theBastille and was taken care by his old servant Defarge. And I was moved the carton, he died for his love, and I like him very much.双城记英文读后感范文篇二It was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was theage of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to Heaven, we were all going direct the other wayCharles Dickens(1812~1870),one of the greatest novelist in England. I have read his A tale of two cities .And this is the beginning of the book.“A Tale of Two Cities”, one of Dickens’ works, is a well-known long story. And it has a great influence on the society at that time. When I saw the title at first, I thought it might tell something about the developing process of two cities, which might be no fun. However, after reading it , I found I had been wrong. It portrays a brutal, bloody and revengeful society as well as love and friendship. It happened before and after the Revolution in France. The ruthless and cruel landowners and noblemen exploited the miserable people who owned nothing, but these poor people worked for others day and night. Noblemen had the power that one word would doubtlessly send others to prison. As time passed by, the noise of the coming-up revolution stormin Paris was growing louder and louder. At last, it was on the fourteenth of July, 1789 that the revolution broke out.“The Bastille and its officers were in the hands of people, and the people wanted revenge and blood.” The true Freedom of France came. “The Guillotine, the new machine of death, cut off the heads of many, many people—not only the powerful and the cruel, but also the beautiful, the innocent, and the good.”Among the good, there was a man called Darney. Even though his father, wife and friends knew he was innocent, the people thought he was the enemy and would go to the Guillotine. In spite of a shadow of fear and hate here and there, we can also see the great and kind persons. I think the greatest person is Mr. Manette who had been a prisoner in the Bastille for eighteen years. What he suffered was difficult to imagine, but he was still kind and loved his daughter. He did his best to save his son-in-law, whose father and uncle were the men that had ever sent him to prison. Another great man is the lawyer, Sydney Carton, a friend of Darney. Before Darney went to Guillotine, Mr. Carton changed places with him and he said, “It is a far, far better thing that I do, than I have ever done; it is a far, far better rest that I go to than I have ever know.”Besides, the story is full of love, including the love betweenfather and daughter, the love between husband and wife, the love among friends and so on. In short, only if you have love in your heart, the life is meaningful. At the same time, the revenge will run away with you, freedom and happiness will be around you. There is no doubt that Charles Dickens is one of the greatest writersin English. From this book, I see some true lives and moving stories from the old ages. I think you must feel the same as me that we don’t want to live in that condition. To be frank, we all look forward to living in a peaceful and love situation. Though the present life has improved a lot, there are still wars in some places. All that we need is to solve the problems in peaceful ways instead of by force. So let’s work hard together in order to make our life much more meaningful and happier, make our society more harmonious.双城记英文读后感篇三The tale of two cities is a historical story, one of Dickens’ long fictions. The background to the novel is the revolution of France .It portrayed a brutal and bloody story , but it also contained love and friendship. In the novel, Dickens sarcastically described a typical cruel nobleman—marquis of Evermonde . When he was young he andhis brother stole a countrywoman by force and killed her family .What’s worse , he used his power to imprison Dr Manette , a kind and honest man who knew all the things they had done and wanted to disclose their crimes . In order to hide their crimes. Marquis of Evermonde and his brother threw Doctor Manette into prison for 18 years . During these 18 years,Doctor Manette lost his freedom and suffer a great in spirit .I felt unthinkable that Marquis of Evermonde and his brother killed people just as easily as they killed chickens. They deprived other people’s freedom as they liked and they thought it was normal and unremarkable. They had never realized that they had done something wrong or something improper. Because their nature was cruel and evil, like demons. There is an old saying which means: People who commit too many crimes will kill themselves. After all, there is justice in the world. The demons can’t be rampant forever. Because the world will not forgive them. They will pay their lives for their crimes. Let’s see the consequence of the Marquis,’’He lay there like a stone with a knife pushed into his heart.” I think it was just what he ought to gain and it is a real exciting scene. The Marquis’ death was just the beginning of people’s resistance to the nobleman. Gradually more and more peoplejoined in the revolution. One after another nobleman were sentenced to death and their heads were cut down . However, some innocent people were implicated in the revolution. Charles Darney was one of them He was the nephew of Marquis of Evermonde. To the opposite of his uncle, Darney was a kind and independent young man.Dickens spoke highly of kindness mercy and love in the novel too. This is the other thone of the novel when Doctor Manette was released from prison. It was his daughter Lucie who took care of him and helped him return to normal. During this time, Dr manette and Lucie knew Charles Darney and Sydeny Carton, the two young man fell in love with Lucie at the same time . At last, Lucie married Chares Darney .Dr Manette accepted Darney as his son-in-law although he knew that Darney was the nephew of the man who threw him into prison for18 years. This is the love between father and daughter. And Sydeny Carton , the very great man ,loved Lucie deeply. He promised Lucie that he would do everything for her happiness. He did it truely ,he sacrificed himself instead of Darney who looked the same as him. This is love for lovers . This is the most wonderful thing in the world. It also reminds us that no matter how no matter when there is true love existing. At the end , Lucie, Dr Manette and Darneyarrived in England safely. The tale of two cities is different from other historical fictions. Its characters and main plots are fictional under the real background of the revolution of France. The author made the experience of the fictional charactor Dr Manette as the main clue. The plots are complicated, and they are flexuous and dramatic. The structure is complete and rigorous.Dickens had dear love and hate. He praised those who ought to be praised and attacked those who ought to be attacked. The motivation of the novel maybe just warn the English dominators. But I think we can learn something meaningful from the tale of two cities.。

双城记英语读后感A Tale of Two Cities: A Reflection。

A Tale of Two Cities, written by Charles Dickens, is a novel that takes place during the tumultuous times of the French Revolution. It is a story of love, sacrifice, and redemption set against the backdrop of social and political upheaval. As I read this novel, I was deeply moved by the themes of hope and resilience that permeate its pages. One of the most striking aspects of A Tale of TwoCities is its portrayal of the stark contrast between the two cities of London and Paris. While London represents stability, order, and prosperity, Paris is depicted as a city on the brink of chaos and revolution. The stark differences between the two cities serve as a powerful reminder of the disparities that exist in the world, and the novel serves as a poignant commentary on the social and political injustices of the time. The characters in A Tale of Two Cities are also incredibly compelling. The protagonist, Charles Darnay, isa man of noble character who is willing to sacrifice everything for the woman he loves. Sydney Carton, on the other hand, is a deeply flawed man who ultimately finds redemption through selfless acts of heroism. These characters, along with others such as Lucie Manette and Dr. Manette, are intricately woven into the fabric of the story, each playing a crucial role in the narrative. The themes of sacrifice and redemption are central tothe novel, and they are exemplified through the characters' actions. Sydney Carton's ultimate sacrifice for the happiness of others is a powerful and poignant moment inthe novel. His selfless act of heroism serves as a reminder of the capacity for human beings to change and grow, evenin the face of overwhelming adversity. In addition to its powerful themes and characters, A Tale of Two Cities also offers a vivid portrayal of the French Revolution. The novel captures the spirit of the times, depicting the chaos and violence that consumed Parisduring this period. The stark contrast between the opulence of the aristocracy and the poverty and suffering of the common people is a stark reminder of the social andpolitical injustices that led to the revolution. As I read A Tale of Two Cities, I found myself deeply moved by the novel's message of hope and resilience. Despite the darkness and despair that permeate the story, there is a sense of optimism that shines through. The characters' unwavering determination to fight for a better future serves as a powerful reminder of the strength of the human spirit. In conclusion, A Tale of Two Cities is a novel that has left a lasting impression on me. Its powerful themes, compelling characters, and vivid portrayal of the French Revolution make it a timeless and relevant work of literature. As I reflect on the novel, I am reminded of the capacity for human beings to overcome adversity and strive for a better future. A Tale of Two Cities is a story of love, sacrifice, and redemption, and it is a testament to the enduring power of the human spirit.。

双城记读后感英文A Tale of Two Cities: A Reflection。

A Tale of Two Cities, written by Charles Dickens, is a novel that takes place during the French Revolution and explores themes of love, sacrifice, and the struggle for justice. As I read this classic work of literature, I was struck by the powerful storytelling and the timeless relevance of its themes. One of the most compelling aspects of A Tale of Two Cities is its exploration of the human capacity for loveand sacrifice. The novel's central characters, Charles Darnay and Sydney Carton, both demonstrate profound acts of selflessness and devotion. Darnay, a French aristocrat, risks his life to return to Paris and help a former servant, while Carton, a dissolute English lawyer, ultimately sacrifices himself to save the man he loves. These acts of sacrifice are not only moving but also serve as a reminderof the potential for good within each of us.The novel also delves into the theme of justice and the struggle for a better world. The French Revolution serves as the backdrop for much of the story, and Dickens vividly portrays the chaos and violence of this tumultuous period. Through the character of Madame Defarge, the novel also explores the idea of revenge and the cycle of violence that can result from a quest for justice. This theme resonates with contemporary issues of social justice and the ongoing struggle for equality and fairness. In addition to its exploration of these weighty themes, A Tale of Two Cities is also a masterful work of storytelling. Dickens's vivid descriptions and richly drawn characters bring the world of 18th-century London and Paris to life. The novel's intricate plot, with its twists and turns, kept me engaged from beginning to end. Dickens's skillful use of language and his ability to create memorable characters make A Tale of Two Cities a timeless classic that continues to captivate readers today. As I reflect on my experience reading A Tale of TwoCities, I am struck by the enduring relevance of its themes and the power of its storytelling. The novel's exploration of love, sacrifice, and the struggle for justice resonates as strongly today as it did when it was first published. By immersing myself in the world of Charles Darnay, Sydney Carton, and the other characters in the novel, I gained a deeper understanding of the human experience and the universal quest for a better world. In conclusion, A Tale of Two Cities is a literary masterpiece that continues to captivate readers with its powerful themes and compelling storytelling. As I turned the final pages of the novel, I was left with a sense of awe at Dickens's ability to create a world that feels both timeless and timely. I am grateful for the opportunity to experience this classic work of literature and to be reminded of the enduring power of love, sacrifice, and the struggle for justice.。

今天小编在这分享一些双城记英文读后感给大家,欢迎大家阅读!双城记英文读后感篇一Recently I read a novel called A Tale of Two Cities. The novel is based on the French Revolution. It was 1775,both England and France were on the verge of Revolution .England's king ,George Ⅲ,was having trouble with his American colonies .And France 's king ,LouisⅩⅥ, was too concerned with his own wealth to worry about his people .Therefore, neither king noticed the changes taking place in his country .They didn't realize ,or care ,that the peasants were hungry and unhappy .They never thought that anything was wrong with the way things were .They were wealthy ,and they thought only of themselves. But the peasants were tired of being treated unfairly. They were tired of watching the kings waste money while their own children starved. So, in both London and Paris, the lower classes prepared to revolt .They were ready to force the kings to make a change. Then one day in July of 1789, the Revolution began in France .Armed peasants ran through the streets of Saint Antoine .Their leader, Ernest Defarge continued to pass out weapons. The men cheered and waved their weapons in the air .Then, they marched toward the Bastille. The novel also talks the story of two men, Charles Darnay and Sydney Carton., who look similar but are very different in personality. Darnay is a romantic French aristocrat, his uncle isthe Marquis St.Evremonde. The Marquis is infamous for his cruelty. While is a cynical English barrister. However, the two are in love with the same woman, Lucie Manette.Charles Darnay is not cruel like his uncle has been. When he knew his servant is in danger, he went to France at once to defend him. He had promised his mother that he would help the peasants. He had a hard time traveling through France. When he finally reached Paris, he was taken prisoner. In my point of view, Charles Darnay is innocent, he is not cruel. The other one is Sydney Carton. In my opinion, he is a wonderful man. He once said,‘I am not worthy of your love, but I want you to know that I wish for your happiness. I hope that we will able to remain close friends. Miss Manette, I would give my life for you. Never forget that, Lucie.’ Eventually, he was to die in Charles Darnay’s place. Because Charles Darnay is Lucie’s husband, and they led a happy life. In order to help Lucie live a enjoyable life, he was to die in Charles Darnay’s place. From the novel 'A tale of two cities '.I learn much ,not only the Revolution in two different cities ,but also the deep relationship between people .I'm impressed by Mr. Manette's tough spirit ,never give in to difficulties .Even though he had been imprisoned a long time ,he struggled to live. He was also an upright man .When his son -in -law was arrested by the Revolutionists, Dr.Manette strongly defended Charles Darnay ,hoped that the Revolutionists could release Charles Darnay .Lucie Manette gives me a deep impression .At the beginning of the novel, I learn that her father had passed, but then,Mr. Lorrytold her that her father was still alive. Because Lucie 's father was imprisoned for a long time .Her mother begged the king to help her ,but he gave no reply .She suffered terribly when her husband disappeared ,so she told her daughter that her father had died .But she never stopped looking for Lucie's father .The king was of no help ,and she never found even one clue .Two years after his disappearance ,she died .I am deeply impressed by the other characters in the novel.Mr.Lorry is also a good man ,at the first of the novel ,when he met Miss Lucie ,and told her that her father was still alive .Besides ,he helped herto find her father in Paris .On the way to Paris ,they experienced many difficulties .But Mr.Lorry didn't give up helping Miss Lucie and Lucie 's father .As far as I concerned ,it not only show his hospitality but also show his hatred to the European royal. In Paris, the Marquis St. Evrémonde, Darnay's uncle, is returning from an audience with Monseigneur, one of the 'greatest lords in France', when his coach runs over and kills the son of the peasant Gaspard; he throws a coin to Gaspard to compensate him for his loss; in the assembled crowd is the implacable tricoteuse, Madame Defarge. He throws the money back, enraging the Marquis and leading him to exclaim that he would willingly kill any of the peasants of France. If I were a peasant at that time in England or France,I would join in the revolution with no hesitation .All man are equal .The king of country should concern his people whether they are starving or homeless .We can learn much from history in our country or in other countries ,only when the leader of the country cares much about his people's life can the country bestronger .People are the base of the country ,without people ,country can not be stronger and can not develop.双城记英文读后感篇二"A tale of two cities" is one of Dickens's most important representative works. The novel profoundly exposed the society contradiction before the French Revolution, intensely attacks the aristocratic social class is dissolute and cruel, and sincerely sympathizes with the depressed classes. The novel also described many magnificent scenes like the revolt people attacked Bastille and so on,which displayed people's great strength. The novel has portrayed many different people. Doctor Manette is honest and kind but suffers the persecution actually , Lucie is beautiful and gentle ,Charles is graceful and noble,Lorry is upright and honest ,Sydney is semblance of indifferent, innermost feelings of warm, unconventional but also selfless and lofty,Miss Pross is straightforward and loyal,Evremonde brothers are cruel and sinister……The complex hatred is hard to solve, the cruel revenge has made more hatreds, loves rebirth in the hell edge, but take the life as the price. As an outstanding writer,in Dickens's work, the language skill is essential. With the broad real background of the French Revolution, the author take the fictional character Doctor Manette's experience as the main clue, interweaves the unjust charge, love and revenge three independences but also incident cross-correlation stories together, the plot is criss-crossed,and theclue is complex. The author use narrates, foreshadowing, upholstery and so many techniques, causes the structure integrity and strictness, the plot winding anxious and rich of theatrical nature,it displayed the remarkable artistic skill.the style "A tale of two cities" is solemnity and melancholy, fills indignantion, but lacks the humor of the early works双城记英文读后感篇三My Opinions About A Tale of Two CitiesA Tale of Two Cities was written by Charles Dickens, who was born in Portsmouth, England in 1812. Dickens’ writing depicted various directions about this society, and provided a keen, sympathetic chronicle of the plight of the urban poor.A Tale of Two Cities mainly about the great atrocities of French aristocrats compelled the poor citizens to resist violently.Doctor Manette spent eighteen years as a prisoner in Bastille because he intended to expose the atrocity after learning that Marquis Evrémonde killed a beautiful farmwife and her younger brother because of his brother’s lust. After Doctor Manette was free again, his daughter Lucie got married with Charles Darnay, Marquis Evrémonde’s nephew, but chose to live in England because he could not accept the cruel injustices of the French social system and the snobbish and cruel values of his uncle. Mr.Defarge used to be Doctor Manette’s s ervant, so he was kind to Manettes, while his wife’s heart burned with longing for revenge. What we need are talks and communication. The time A Tale of Two Cities mentions has gone, we should do enough preparation to adapt the coming age.。

今天小编在这分享一些双城记英文读后感给大家,欢迎大家阅读!双城记英文读后感篇一The report of the A Tale of Two CitiesRecently, I read a tale of two cities. All of the marquises was send to the guillotine.Because the Darnay was a marquis. And I was moved the carton, he died for his love, and I like him very much.( 姓名: 张喜华)双城记英文读后感篇二The Book Report ofA Tale of Two CitiesIt was the best of times, it was the worst of times, it was the age of wisdom, it was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of belief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of Light, it was the season of Darkness, it was the spring of hope, it was the winter of despair, we had everything before us, we had nothing before us, we were all going direct to Heaven, we were all going direct the other wayCharles Dickens(1812~1870),one of the greatest novelist in England. However, after reading it , I found I had beenwrong. As time passed by, the noise of the coming-up revolution storm in Paris was growing louder and louder. At last, it was on the fourteenth of July, 1789 that the revolution broke out.“The Bastille and its officers were in the hands of p eople, and the people wanted revenge and blood.” The true Freedom of France came. “The Guillotine, the new machine of death, cut off the heads of many, many people—not only the powerful and the cruel, but also the beautiful, the innocent, and the good.” Among the good, there was a man called Darney. Carton changed places with him and he said, “It is a far, far better thing that I do, than I have ever done; it is a far, far better rest that I go to than I have ever know.” Besides, the story is full of love, including the love between father and daughter, the lovebetween husband and wife, the love among friends and so on. When he was young he and his brother stole a countrywoman by force and killed her family .What’s worse , he used his power to imprison Dr Manette , a kind and honest man who knew all the things they had done and wanted to disclose their crimes . In order to hide their crimes. Marquis of Evermonde and his brother threw Doctor Manette into prison for 18 years . During these 18 years,Doctor Manette lost his freedom and suffer a great in spirit .I felt unthinkable that Marquis of Evermonde and his brotherkilled people just as easily as they killed chickens. Let’s see the consequence of the Marquis,’’He lay there like a stone with a knife pushed into his heart.” I think it was just what he ought t o gain and it is a real exciting scene. The Marquis’ death was just the beginning of people’s resistance to the nobleman. Gradually more and more people joined in the revolution. And Sydeny Carton , the very greatman ,loved Lucie deeply. He promised Lucie that he would do everything for her happiness. He did it truely ,he sacrificed himself instead of Darney who looked the same as him. This is love for lovers . This is the most wonderful thing in the world. It also reminds us that no matter how no matter when there is true love existing. At the end , Lucie, Dr Manette and Darney arrived in England safely.

A Tale of Two Cities---A wonderful storyCharles Dickens in full Charles John Huffam Dickens (born Femruary 7, 1812, Portsmouth, Hampshire, England--died June 9, 1870, Gad’s Hill, near Chatham, Kent), English novelist, generally considered the grestest of the Victorian era. His many volumes include such works as A Chrismas Carol, David Copperfield, Bleak House, A Tale of Two Cities, Great Expectations, and Our Mutual Friend. A Tale of Two Cities(1859) was an experiment, relying less than before on characterization, dialogue, and humour. An exciting and compact narrative, it lacks too many of his major works.A Tale of Two Cities set in London and Paris before and during the French Revolution. The year is 1775, and social ills plague both France and England. Jerry Cruncher, an odd-job man who works for Tellson’s Bank, stops the Dover mail-coach with an urgent message for Jarvis Lorry. The message instructs Lorry to wait at Dover for a young woman, and Lorry responds with the cryptic words, “R ecalled to Life.” At Dover, Lorry is met by Lucie Manette, a young orphan whose father, a onceeminent doctor whom she supposed dead, has been discovered in France. Lorry escorts Lucie to Paris, where they met Defarge, a former servant of Doctor Manette, who has kept Manette safe in a garret. Driven mad by eighteen years in Bastille, Manette spends all of his time making shoes, a hobby he learned while in prison. Lorry assures Lucie that her love and devotion can recall her father to life, and indeed they do. The year is now 1780. Charles Darnay stands accused of treason against the Engish crown. A bombastic lawyer named Stryver pleads Darnay’s case, but it is not until his drunk, good-for-nothing colleague, Sydney Carton, assists him that the court acquits Darnay. Carton clinches his argument by pointing out that he himself bears an uncanny resemblance to the defendant, which undermines the prosecution’s case for unmistakablyidentifying Darnay as the spy the authorities spotted. Lucie and Doctor Manette watched the court proceedings, and that night, Carton escorts Danay to a tavern and asks how it feels to receive the sympathy of a woman like Lucie. Carton despises and resents Darnay becsuse he reminds him of all that he himself has given up and might have been. In France, the cruel Marquis Evremonde runs down a plebian child with his carriage. Manifesting an attitude typical of the aristocracy in regard to the poor at that time, the Marquis shows no regret, but instead curses the peasantry and hurries home to his chateau, where he awaits the arrival of his nephew, Darnay, from England. Arriving later that night, Darnay curses his uncle and the French aristocracy for its abominable treatment of the people. He renounces his identity as an Evremonde and announces his intention to return to England. That night, the Marquis is murdered; the murderer has left a note signed with the nickname adopted by French revolutionaries: “Jacques.” A year passes, and Darnay asks Manetee for permission to marry Lucie. He says that, if Lucie accepts, he will reveal his true identity to Manette. Carton, meanwhile, also pledges his love to Lucie, admitting that, though his life is worthless, she has heloed him dream of a better, more valuable exitence. On the streets of London, Jerry Cruncher gets swept up in the funderal procession for a spy named Roger Cly. Later thatnight, he demonstrates his talents as a “Resurrection-Man,” sneaking into the cemetery to steal and sell Cly’s body. In Paris, meanwhile, another English spy known as John Barsad drops into Defarge’s wine shop. Barsad hopes to turn up evidence concerning the mounting revolution, which is still in its covert stages. Madame Defarge sits in the shop knitting a secret registry of those whom the revolution seeks to execute. Back in London, Darnay, on the morning of his wedding, keeps his promise to Manette; he reveals his true identity and, that night, Manette relapses into his old prison habit of making shoes. After nine days, Manette regains his presence of mind, and soon joins the newlyweds on their honeymoon.Upon Darnay’s return, Carton pays him a visit and asks for his friendship. Darnay assures Carton that he is always welcome in their home. The year is now 1789. The peasants in Paris storm the Bastille and the French Revolution begins. The revolutionaries murder aristocrats in the streets, and Gabelle, a man charged with the maintenance of the Evremonde estate, is imprisoned. Three years later, he writes to Darnay, asking to be rescued. Despite the threat of great danger to his person, Darnay departs immediately for France. As soon as Darnay arrives in Paris, the French revolutionaries arrest him as an emigrant. Lucie and Manette make their way to Paris in hopes of saving him. Darnay remains in prison for a year and three months before receiving a trial. In order to help free him, manette uses his considerable influence with the revolutionaries, who sympathize with him for having served time in the Bastille. Darnay receives an acquittal, but that same night he is arrested again. The charges, this time, come from Defarge and his vengeful wife. Carton arrives in Paris with a plan to rescue Darnay and obtain the help of John Barsad, who turns out tobe Solomon Pross, the longlost brother of Miss Pross, Lucie’s loyal servant. At Darnsy’s trial, Defarge produces a letter that he discovered in Manette’s old jail cell in the Bastille. The letter explains the cause of Manette’s imprisonment. Years ago, the brothers Evremonde(Darnay’s father and uncle) enlisted Manette’s medical assistance. They asked him to send to a woman, whom one of the brothers had raped, and her brother, whom the same brother had stabbed fatally. Fearing that Manette might report their misdeeds, the Evremondes had him arrested. Upon hearing this story, the jury condemns Darnay for the crimes of his ancestors and sentences him to die within twenty-four hours. That night, at the Defarge’s wine shop, Carton over hears Madame Defarge plotting to have Lucie and her daughter(also Darnay’s dughter) executed as well; Madame Defarge, it turns out, is the surviving sibling of the man and woman killed by the Evremondes. Carton arranges for the Manette’s immediate departure from France. He than visits Darnay in prison, tricks him into changing clothes with him, and, after dictating a letter of explanation, drugs his friend unconscious. Barsad carries Darnay, now disguished as Cartton, to an awaiting coach, while Carton, disguised Darnay, awaits execution. As Darnay, Lucie, their child, and Dr. Manette Defarge arrives at Lucie’s apartment, hoping to arrest her. There she finds the supremely protective Miss Pross. A suffle ensures, and Madame Defarge dies by the bullet of her owm gun. Sydney Carton meets his death at the guillotine, and the narrator confidently asserts that Carton dies with the knowledge that he has finally imbued his life with meaning. When I finished this story, I really respected Carton, who sacrificed himself to help Darnay. He realized his promise to Lu cie: “For you, and for anyone dear to you, I would do anything. I would accept any sacrifice to help you and those whom you love. Always remember, in the happy days beside you, that there is a man who would give his life to keep a life you love beside yo u.” For Darnay, I also think he was kind man. He went back Paris to help a person who had ever helped him in spite of the danger. And although he was a nobleman, he didn’t bully and oppress people, instead helping them. He left his uncle and went to London to teach French. From the story, we can see that the noble were cruel. They constantly collected taxes from people, who had nothing, and suffered privation and starvation. They even tread on the life of people. So the revolution was good and popular, and the noble should be punished. But I think not everyone was like that, a few people were kind, who should be treated equally. In this way, the revolution was meaningful and adapted the slogan of “Liberty, Equality and Fraternity.” Maybe the writer wanted to tell us something about revolution he thought exactly. Anyhow, this book not only tells us a story, but also the precious things behind the story. We should study it by heart and be in the condition of the period.。
