The Power of Perseverance in AchievingDreamsIn the journey of life, perseverance stands as a beacon of hope, guiding us through the treacherous paths of challenges and difficulties. It is the invisible force that propels us forward,鼓励我们超越自我,面对困境时不放弃,坚持到底。
This essay explores the essence of perseverance andits indispensable role in achieving dreams, drawing inspiration from the 2019 Guangdong Professional Insertion English essay topic.Perseverance is the steadfastness in doing something despite difficulty or delay in achieving success. It is the determination to continue in spite of obstacles or setbacks. The journey to achieving our dreams is often fraught with challenges, but it is perseverance that turns these obstacles into stepping stones to success. As the famous saying goes, "The road to success is always under construction." This construction requires the hard work, dedication, and perseverance of the individual. In the realm of sports, the story of Thomas Edison provides a telling example of perseverance. He was onceasked how it felt to fail so many times before inventing the light bulb. He replied, "I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work." Edison's response highlights the essence of perseverance: seeing failures as stepping stones to success. It is this unwavering commitment to success that separates the successful from the unsuccessful. Moreover, perseverance instills in us a sense of purpose and direction. When we persevere, we are morelikely to stay focused on our goals and objectives. This focus helps us to prioritize our actions and allocate our resources effectively. As a result, we are more likely to make progress towards our dreams. However, perseverance does not mean stubbornly sticking to one path regardless of circumstances. Instead, it involves adapting to changes, learning from failures, and modifying our approach when necessary. This flexibility combined with persistence is what truly powers our progress towards our dreams. In conclusion, perseverance is the key to unlocking our full potential and achieving our dreams. It is theinvisible force that propels us forward,鼓励我们超越自我,面对困境时不放弃,坚持到底。

These may show strengths that you can use in your work. A boy who is good at mathematics can use that in an engineering career. A girl who spells well and likes English may be good at office work. So it is important to do well at school. On the other hand, you may not have any specially strong or weak subjects but your records show a general satisfactory standard. Although not all subjects can be used directly in a job, they may have indirect value. Knowledge of history is not required for most jobs but if history is one of your good subjects you will have learned to remember facts and details. This is an ability that can be useful in many jobs.Your school may have taught you skills, such as typing or technical drawing, which you can use in your work. You may be good at metal work or cookery and look for a job where you can improve these skills. If you have had a part-time job on Saturdays or in the summer, think what you gained from it. If nothing else, you may have learned how to get to work on time, to follow instructions and to get on with older workers. You may have learned to give correct change in a shop, for example. Just as important, you may become interested in a particular industry or career you see from the inside in a part-time job.Facing your weak points is also part of knowing yourself. Perhaps you are a poor speller or cannot add up a column of figures. It is better to face any weaknesses than to pretend they do not exist. Your school record, for instance, may not be too good, yet it is an important part of your background. You should not be apologetic about it but instead recognize that you will have a chance of a fresh start at work.36. What does the first paragraph mainly tell us?A. The importance of finding a good job.B. The importance of one’s ability in school.C. The importance of doing well in school work.D. The importance of good at all the subjects.37. What knowledge is not necessary in looking for many jobs according to the writer?A. MathematicsB. EnglishC. HistoryD. Typing38. The writer’s attitude towards a part-time job is _______.A. positiveB. negativeC. neutralD. hostile39. It can be inferred from the passage that if a student’s school work is not good, he_____.A. can find his weaknessB. can get a new start in his workC. will fail in looking for a jobD. will feel regret about his ability40. The passage is developed by giving _________.A. a comparisonB. enough evidenceC. some examplesD. some factsPassage 3Until the twentieth century, women did not often participant in sports. Part of the explanation for this is that women simply did not have time. Many women cooked, cleaned, and took care of children. They were so busy that they did not have time for sports. A second reason, especially in the late nineteenth century, is that a woman's image at that time was one of frailty, illness, and delicacy. In the Victorian era, people thought that it was unladylike for a woman to be involved in any sports activity. There have been changes in both the view of women in the modern world, and also changes within the world of sports. These changes have allowed many more women to participate in sports. The general view of women has changed substantially since the Victorian era. Women are no longer considered delicate. People do not think it is unladylike for a woman to compete in sports. Women who win in sports activities are highly regarded. Many women now take part in sports and games of many different kinds, and enjoy doing so. This development is partly the result of a change in the image of women in the modern world.Women also are more active in sports now because of two changes in sports. First, in the early twentieth century, women began to compete regularly in the Olympics. Also, the number of events for women in the Olympics has been growing quite steadily. The fact that women can compete in the Olympics encourages many to become active in the various Olympic activities. In more recent years, television has had a noticeable effect on both the popularity of and participation in women's professional sports. Seeing women in professional sports on TV has made certain sports much more popular among women, as amateurs and as professionals.41. According to the passage, women did not often participate in sports in the past because___.A. they were too busyB. they did not like competitionC. they did not like sportsD. they loved staying at home42. The best title for this passage is ______.A. The Image of WomenB. Sports in the PastC. Women in SportsD. Modern SportsPassage 4New research is trying to find how we learn and make decision exactly. To the brain, a new thought or idea is like a spider. If it works hard enough, a web of knowledge spins out from it. Photos of the brain taken during learning actually show a kind of nerve cells firing, growing, and forming new connections. This is fascinating in itself, but what’s even more fascinating is that failure can cause this to happen. That’s right; failure can enhance your brain.Stanford University psychologist Carol Dweck has compared the brain waves of people with growth and fixed mind-sets. She finds that, when those with growth mind-sets fail at a task, they would enter a more focused mental state. And as they try again and again, they improve. In effect, they' ve learned, and their brains have “grown.” Those with fixed mind-sets, however, never enter this focused state of learning and show little advancement.Antoine Bechara, a professor of psychology and neuroscience at the University of Southem California, has taken Dweck's work a step further. He recently isolated two equally sized centers in the brain. These areas interact during the decision-making process. Although more research is needed, these centers may turn out to be the physical locations for Dweck's twin mind-sets."We always knew people could learn from their mistakes, but now we're finding out exactly how and where this happens," explains Bechara."In a normally functioning brain, failure is taken as an opportunity for learning and strengthening the species."46. according to the passage, like a spider, a new thought or idea could______.A. come from hard workB. enrich you brainC. be very fascinatingD. form a knowledge web47.Which of the following statements about Antoine Bechara is true?A. He explored how human beings survive.B. He found how the brain normally functions.C. He probably discovered the physical locations for the twin mind-sets.D. Well, new research indicates that dogs can tell the difference between happy and angry human facial expressions. However, whether or not they understand the emotions behind these faces is still up for debate. Researchers from the University of Vienna designed an experiment where eleven dogs were trained to associate either a happy or an angry face with a food reward. During this stage, each dog was shown only the upper half or lower half of the person’s face.In a later test, the scientists showed the dogs images, either of human faces they had not seen in their training, or of just half a human face. The dogs then had to, to the best of their ability, spot the difference.Surprisingly, the dogs are able to tell the difference between the happy and angry face more often than not, suggesting that they can associate positive and negative feelings with a smile or a frown."Our study demonstrates that dogs can distinguish angry and happy expressions in humans. They can tell that these two expressions have different meanings, and they can do this notonly for people they know well, but even for faces they have never seen before, "Ludwig Huber, senior author and head of the group at the University of Veterinary Medicine Vienna’s Messerli Rese arch Institute, said in a press release. This study isn’t the first to test whether dogs could tell between human emotional expressions, but it is the first to provide evidence of what we have always suspected.Huber and his colleagues believe their findings can be useful to pet owners when giving punishment orrewards, making sure not to let their faces give it away. But perhaps the message is to smile more, because you can’t fool a dog.61.From this passage, we can learn that dogs can .A.hardly read human emotionsB.never read human emotionsC.tell the difference between happy and angry human facial expressionsD.tell the difference between happy and angry human facial expressions only for people they know well62.The underlined word "distinguish" in the fifth paragraph could be replaced by " ".A.sayB. speakC. tellD. talk63.The aim of this experiment is .A.to train dogsB.to observe dogs’ facesC.to show the dogs human facesD.to find out whether dogs can understand human emotions64.The researchers designed an experiment .A.with twelve dogsB.with a food rewardC.with only the upper half of the person’s face shownD.with only the lower half of the person’s face shown65.According to Ludwig Huber and his colleagues’ finding, .A.you should not punish your dogB.you should not leave your dog aloneC.your dog can’t understand your emotionsD.you should not give away your secret when facing your dog第二部分非选择题(请用0.5 毫米黑色签字笔并严格按照题号顺序在答题卡上书写作答)Section B (15 points, 3 for each )Directions: In the section, you are required to read a passage and fill in each blank with no more than FIVE words on the ANSWER SHEET.Internet use appears to cause a drop in drop in psychological (心理上的)health, according to research at Carnegie Mellon University.Even people who spent just a few hours a week on the Internet experienced more bad feelings and loneliness than those results, which are completely contrary to their expectations. 广东专插本2019英语真题作文
The Power of Perseverance in the Face ofChallengesIn the dynamic and ever-changing world of today, the journey of life is often fraught with challenges and difficulties. This is particularly true for those seeking to further their education through postgraduate studies, such as the students preparing for the Guangdong Postgraduate Entrance Examination. The 2019 English essay topic for this examination, "The Role of Perseverance in Overcoming Difficulties," highlights the significance of perseverance in the face of adversity.Perseverance is the steadfastness in doing something despite difficulty or delay in achieving success. It is a quality that is honed through tough times and tests of character. As the saying goes, "No pain, no gain." This couldn't be more true when it comes to overcoming challenges in life. Whether it's the challenges posed by academic studies, career aspirations, or personal growth, perseverance is the key to unlocking success. In the context of the Guangdong Postgraduate Entrance Examination, perseverance is not just about studying hardbut also about staying focused and motivated despite the pressure and competition. The students preparing for this exam are often faced with the dual challenges of balancing their studies with other responsibilities, such as work or family, and dealing with the emotional stress that comes with the territory. It is here that perseverance truly shines. It is the persevering student who rises above the challenges, who finds new ways to overcome obstacles, and who never gives up despite the setbacks. This perseverance is not just a trait but a way of life. It is the driving force that propels them forward, pushing them to reachtheir full potential. Moreover, perseverance is not just about individual success. It has a ripple effect that benefits others. The persevering student not only achieves their own goals but also becomes a role model and inspiration to those around them. Their story of hard work and dedication becomes a beacon of hope for others facing their own challenges. However, perseverance does not mean stubbornly sticking to one path. It also involves adaptability and willingnessto learn from failures. The persevering student is open to new ideas and perspectives, using their failures as stepping stones to success. They understand that every challenge is an opportunity for growth and learning. In conclusion, the role of perseverance in overcoming difficulties cannot be overstated. It is the invisible force that drives us towards our dreams, turning the impossible into possible. For the students preparing for the Guangdong Postgraduate Entrance Examination, perseverance is not just a strategy but a mindset that will help them overcome the challenges ahead and achieve their academic goals.**坚持的力量**在当今这个充满活力和不断变化的世界中,人生的旅程往往充满了挑战和困难。

Yet without it we could not survive more than a few minutes. For the most part, the same air is available to everyone, and everyone needs it. Some people use the air to sustain them while they sit around and feel sorry for themselves. Others breathe in the air and use the energy it provides to make a magnificent life for themselves.Opportunity is the same way. It is everywhere. Opportunity is so freely available that we take it for granted. Yet opportunity alone is not enough to create success. Opportunity must be seized and acted upon in order to have value. So many people are so anxious to "get in" on a "ground floor opportunity", as if the opportunity will do all the work.Just as you need air to breathe, you need opportunity to succeed. It takes more than just breathing in the fresh air of opportunity, however. You must make use of that opportunity. That's not up to the opportunity. That's up to you. It doesn't matter what "floor" the opportunity is on. What matters is what you do with it.Section B: Translate the following passage from Chinese to English.徐霞客一生周游考察了十六个省,足迹几乎遍及全国。

other executives knew about problems with the dam.The firm maintains that they didn’t.Prosecutors (检察官)declare that Vale made a secret deal to hide the fact that the dam is in danger.Despite all these each important file;two of them on different external hard drives, stored in different locations, and one in the cloud.”Here’s a real-life example of how often you need to back up your computer from Jimmy,a wedding photographer at Pixelicious. He uses the3-2-1strategy to ensure his client’s special memories are both in the cloud and on external hard drives so that they never get lost.“Before leaving a wedding reception,I immediately pull one of the two memory cards from my camera and store it in my wallet.A backup of the images will[literally]follow me wherever I go!”says Jimmy.“Then,as soon as I get home,a copy of the files will be transferred to my desktop so that before the sun rises again,I already have three copies of my client’s images.”After editing, copies of the final images I just took a really important English exam and I wanted to share my thoughts about it. Getting into a good university is super important, so I have to do well on tests like this one.The exam was pretty long - it had listening, reading, writing, and speaking sections. I was a little nervous at first, but then I remembered all the hard work I've put into studying English. My mom got me an English tutor last year and I've been practicing constantly. I watc篇3My Summer VacationBy Claude the Friendly AIHi there! My name is Claude and I'm a kid in elementary school. I just got back from summer vacation and boy, was it fun! My parents took me and my little sister on a trip to Guangdong Province in China. We saw and did so many cool things that I can't wait to tell you all about it!We started our trip in Guangzhou, which is the capital city of Guangdong. It's a really big and busy place with lots of tall buildings and people everywhere. Our hotel was right in the middle of the city and had an awesome pool that we swam in almost every day. Guangzhou is famous for its delicious food, so we ate lots of yummy dishes like dim sum, wonton noodles, and barbecued pork. One of the highlights was visiting Yuexiu Park right in the middle of Guangzhou. It's a huge park with pretty gardens, historic buildings, and even a mini mountain! We climbed up Yuexiu Hill and from the top you can see the entire city skyline. There was also the Guangzhou Museum that had all sorts of cool ancient artifacts and exhibits about the city's long history. After a few days in Guangzhou, we took a train to Shenzhen which is right on the border with Hong Kong. Shenzhen is one of the richest and most modern cities in China with tons of skyscrapers and fancy shopping malls. We went up to the observation deck in the Ping An Finance Center, one of the tallest buildings in Shenzhen, and the view was incredible! You could see all the way to Hong Kong.My favorite part was going to Window of the World, which is this huge park filled with miniature models of famous landmarks and buildings from all around the world. There were mini versions of the Eiffel Tower, Pyramids of Giza, Statue of Liberty, and so much more. It's like you're traveling to every country without even leaving Shenzhen! They even had real actors dressed up and performing little shows from different cultures. The Italian plaza had people making pizza and the British area had guards marching around like at Buckingham Palace. From Shenzhen, we took a bus down to Zhuhai which is right next to Macau. Zhuhai has some really pretty beaches and islands off the coast. We took a boat cruise around the Wanshan Marine Development Area and saw all these tiny islands with cool rock formations. Some of the islands even had hiking trailsthat we explored. The boat also stopped at this beach with the softest white sand I've ever felt! Our last stop was Macau, which is this tiny region that used to be ruled by Portugal before it became part of China again in 1999. Even though it's connected to mainland China, Macau has a totally different feel with Portuguese influences everywhere. The historic city center is full of these colorful European-style buildings, churches, and cobblestone streets. It was like being transported to Europe! We took a quick stop to Coloane Village, which is this sleepy beachside town in Macau where you can see the Portuguese influence with pastel-colored buildings and churches. It's way more laid-back compared to the busy casinos in the city center. We got to buy some tasty Portuguese egg tarts that Macau is known for. After two weeks, our amazing Guangdong trip came to an end. Even though I was sad to leave, I'm so happy I got to experience the different cities, nature, food, and cultures that the province has to offer. From modern skyscrapers to historic European neighborhoods to beautiful islands and beaches, Guangdong really does have it all! I took so many pictures andmade wonderful memories that I'll never forget. I can't wait to go back someday!篇4My Awesome Life as a KidHi there! My name is Lily and I'm 8 years old. I'm in the 3rd grade and I just love being a kid! Every day is filled with fun, adventures and learning new things. Let me tell you all about my awesome life.School Days Are the Best DaysI wake up early each morning, around 7am, because I can't wait to get to school! I quickly get dressed, brush my teeth and hair, and head to the kitchen for a yummy breakfast. My mom makes the best pancakes with strawberries and whipped cream. Mmm!After fueling up, I grab my backpack and lunchbox and walk the short distance to my elementary school. I get so excited passing by the playground and seeing all the cool monkey bars, swings and slides. I can't wait for recess!Once I get to my classroom, I give my teacher Mrs. Martin a big smile and wave hello to all my friends. We start our day withthe Pledge of Allegiance and then dive right into our first lesson, usually reading or math.I love reading time because we get to discuss the fun stories we've been working on. Math is pretty cool too, especially when we get to play games to practice our skills. Let me tell you, I'm a whiz at addition and subtraction!Around mid-morning we get to go outside for recess. This is maybe my favorite part of the day! I'm always thrilled to run around, play tag with my friends, or practice climbing and swinging on the monkey bars. I have so much energy to burn off. After recess, we come back inside for more learning. We might have a science lesson about plants or animals. Or we'll work on our writing skills, which is fun because I love putting my imagination onto paper through stories and poems.Lunchtime rolls around before I know it. I always pack a nutritious lunch with things like a sandwich, yogurt, fruit, and maybe a few chips or cookies for a treat. My friends and I like to eat together and chat about our favorite cartoons or toys.In the afternoon, we sometimes have special classes like art, music or gym. Art is awesome because I get to draw, paint, and get really creative. Music class is fun too - we sing songs andeven learn to play the recorder. And gym is great for running around and being active. Before I know it, it's time to head home for the day. The end of the school day is a little sad because I have to say goodbye to my friends and teachers. But I'm always eager to tell my parents about everything I learned that day.Awesome Afterschool ActivitiesJust because school is done for the day doesn't mean the fun has to stop! There are so many amazing afterschool activities and hobbies I enjoy.A few days a week, I have soccer practice right after school. I've played soccer since I was 5 years old and I just love it. Running up and down the field, dribbling the ball, and working as a team is so thrilling. The games on Saturdays are the biggest highlight - that's when I get to put my skills into action! On the days I don't have soccer, I might go home and work on my art projects. I really enjoy drawing characters from my favorite movies and TV shows. Lately I've been getting really into painting too. Watercolors are my new favorite medium because of all the pretty shades you can create.Sometimes in the afternoons, my friends and I will have play dates at each other's houses. We love playing imaginative games like house or superheroes. Building forts out of blankets and pillows is one of our favorite activities. We also like playing outside on swingsets, going down slideas, and jumping on trampolines when the weather is nice.My friends and I are obsessed with putting on shows and plays for our parents too. We'll spend hours working on our "script", creating costumes out of cloths and household items, and setting up our little stage area. Then we'll perform dramas, musicals, magic shows - you name it! Our families love to watch and cheer us on.In the evenings, I'll help my mom with prepping dinner and setting the table. After we eat, my parents always make sure I've completed all my homework and reading assignments from school. Once that's done, I get some free time to watch TV, play games, or read before bedtime.I'm usually asleep by 9pm so I can recharge my batteries for another fun-filled day! Saturdays are for relaxing in my pajamas, playing with toys, going to the park, maybe catching a movie or going bowling with my family. Sundays always include a trip to church followed by a yummy pancake breakfast. Sundays arealso my chore days but honestly, I don't mind helping out around the house. It feels good to pitch in!The Best Weekends and VacationsIn addition to my usual afterschool activities, I have a lot of excitement to look forward to on weekends, holidays and vacations from school. These are the times for adventures!A few times a year, my family will go on a trip somewhere fun like the beach, the mountains, or a cool city to explore. I always look forward to hotel stays where we can go swimming, order room service, and catch fun shows or activities put on by the staff. My parents try to schedule our trips during my school breaks for Thanksgiving, Christmas, Spring Break or Summer. For Thanksgiving, we always go to my aunt and uncle's house and I get to see my cousins. We have a huge delicious feast with turkey, stuffing, mashed potatoes - the works! Afterwards we'll watch movies, play games, and just relax together. On Black Friday, my parents sometimes take me shopping for toys and clothes. It's really exciting!Christmas is probably my favorite holiday. A few weeks before, we'll go pick out a fresh Christmas tree to decorate. I love hanging all the ornaments and putting on strands of lights andgarland. When all the presents arrive under the tree, I can hardly contain my excitement and anticipation! On Christmas morning, we open our gifts from Santa bright and early. No matter what I get, it always feels magical. In the afternoon, more of my extended family comes over for a big Christmas dinner. We'll play in the snow, go sledding, and just enjoy each other's company all day.Summertime is arguably the most fun of all for a kid! Once school lets out in June, I have the entire summer to go swimming, have picnics, go to amusement parks, and make so many amazing memories. My family always takes a beach vacation at some point too. I love building sandcastles, jumping waves, and having my dad bury me in the sand. No summer is complete without at least one baseball game, outdoor concert, or carnival either. I eat so much ice cream, funnel cake and cotton candy during those hot months. It's absolute paradise!Anytime I'm feeling bored during the long summer days, my parents will take me and my friends to the movies, trampoline park, arcade or mini golf course. We'll get all our energy out doing activities like that. Then we'll come home and have a lemonade stand or have a sprinkler party in the backyard. Those carefree summer days are what childhood dreams are made of!Well, that's a little glimpse into my super fun and adventurous life as an 8-year-old kid. Between school, afterschool activities, vacations and just good old-fashioned playtime, I don't think my life could get any better. I get to use my creativity and imagination constantly. I'm learning new things every single day. And I'm making so many wonderful memories with my family and friends along the way. This is the life!篇5My Big Adventure Taking the English TestWow, what an exciting day it was when I took the big English test! My mom and dad were so proud of me for working hard to prepare. They said it was an important test that could help me get into a good university one day.I was a little nervous at first, but I tried my best to stay calm like my teacher taught us. Mrs. Park always reminds us to take deep breaths when we feel worried. She's really nice and great at helping us learn English. Thanks to her lessons, I knew lots of vocabulary words and grammar rules. The test had different sections - listening, reading, writing, and speaking. For the listening part, we had to put on headphones and listen really carefully to recordings of peopletalking in English. Some were conversations while others were speeches or stories. Afterwards, we had to answer multiple choice questions about what we heard. I concentrated so hard, straining my little ears!Reading was next. We had passages to read silently and then answered more multiple choice comprehension questions. Some of the topics were pretty interesting, like an article about a young inventor. Other passages were kind of boring though, like one explaining the history of dental floss. Still, I tried my best to understand every word.Writing was probably my favorite section, at least at first. We had to write an essay responding to a prompt. The topic was "My Happiest Memory" so I wrote all about the time my parents took me to the beach for the first time and I got to play in the ocean waves. I used lots of descriptive words to paint a vivid picture in the reader's mind. Sadly, I ran out of time before finishing and had to stop in the middle. Oh well, I'll know better how to pace myself next time.Speaking was the last and definitely most nerve-wracking part! One at a time, we had to go into another room and have a conversation with an examiner who scored our English abilities. The examiner asked me to introduce myself, describe my family, and discuss my hobbies. I'm pretty talkative usually, but facing this stern-looking grown-up made me really shy at first. After a few minutes though, I loosened up and started chatting away about how I love reading, drawing pictures, and playing soccer with my friends.Phew, I was so relieved when it was all over! My hand was cramping from all that writing. I felt like a wrung-out dishrag. But I also felt proud for giving it my all and not letting nerves get the better of me. The test was hard, no doubt about it, but I knew I had prepared well thanks to my awesome teacher and all the practice materials my parents got me.After the exam, my parents took me out for my favorite dinner - pizza! As I happily munched on a slice oozing with melty cheese, they congratulated me for all my hard work over so many months. Dad gave me a big hug and said he could see my English continuously improving. Mom beamed and said she was already envisioning me attending a top university. I just smiled shyly and told them I'd done my best.A few weeks later, the scores finally arrived in the mail. I excitedly ripped open the envelope to see how I did. My listening and reading scores were pretty good, but could still use some improvement according to the breakdown. Writing was mystrongest area, with powerful vocabulary and clear expression of ideas. Speaking was my weakest though - I lost points for not fully answering some questions and having a few too many grammatical mistakes when I spoke extemporaneously.Overall however, I scored high enough to qualify for admission to the university my parents wanted! We all cheered and celebrated. That night, Mom and Dad tucked me in and told me they were immensely proud of my achievement after months of diligent preparation. Thanks to my dedication in studying English starting from a young age, I had opened up opportunities to continue developing my proficiency and pursue advanced education. As I drifted off to sleep, I felt a mixture of accomplishment and optimism. While the test had been grueling, I knew it was just one step on my journey towards fluency. English could open up a world of possibilities for me - making new friends, learning about fascinating cultures, accessing all kinds of information and entertainment, and maybe even traveling the globe someday. With that warm thought, I smiled contentedly and had the sweetest dreams.篇6My Life as a KidHi there! My name is Lily and I'm 8 years old. I'm in 3rd grade at Sunshine Elementary School. I love being a kid and want to tell you all about my fun life!My FamilyI live with my mom, dad, older brother Tommy who is 10, and our dog Rufus. Rufus is a golden retriever and he's the cuddliest, most playful pup ever! My mom works at a big office downtown and my dad is a teacher at my school. Having him there is pretty neat. Sometimes he even comes to my class to read us stories. My dad is really silly and makes us laugh all the time. My mom is more serious but she has a big heart. She's always giving us hugs and kisses. Tommy and I fight sometimes like most siblings do. He can be a meanie and loves to tease me. But other times we have a ton of fun together playing video games or building epic fortresses with our legoblocks. My HouseOur house isn't huge but it's just right for our family. We have a big backyard that's perfect for running around and playing tag or hide-and-seek. Rufus loves digging holeseverywhere though, which drives my parents crazy! Inside, my favorite room is the playroom. It's filled with all my toys and games. I especially love my huge dollhouse. I can spend hours making up stories and voicing all the little dolls. My parents just renovated the kitchen and it looks so sleek and modern now. The stainless steel appliances are super shiny! I like to sit on the stools at the counter and watch my mom cook. She makes the best chocolate chip cookies. Yum!School DaysEven though I'm just a kid, my days are pretty busy and scheduled out. I wake up around 7am, have a yummy breakfast like pancakes or oatmeal, then get ready for school. My classes start at 8:30. We。

The Evolution of Technology and Its Impacton Daily LifeIn the modern era, technology has evolved rapidly, transforming the way we live, work, and interact with the world. The advancements in technology have brought remarkable changes to our daily lives, making them more convenient, efficient, and interconnected. This evolution has been particularly evident in the realm of digital technology, which has revolutionized the way we access and share information, communicate with others, and conduct business transactions. The widespread availability of smartphones and the internet has made it possible for people to stay connected with each other regardless of their geographical locations. Social media platforms have emerged as powerful tools for sharing updates, opinions, and experiences, while online shopping and e-commerce platforms have revolutionized the retail industry, allowing consumers to buy products and services from anywhere in the world with just a few clicks. Moreover, the rise of artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning has further transformed various industries, including healthcare, finance, and transportation. AI-powered systems can now analyze vast amounts of data to predict trends and make informed decisions, while autonomous vehicles are being developed to revolutionize the transportation industry and reduce accidents caused by human error. However, while the evolution of technology has brought numerous benefits to society, it has also presented some challenges. One of the most significant challenges is the issue of privacy, as personal data is constantly being collected and shared online. This has led to concerns about data security and the potential misuse of personal information.Another challenge is the digital divide, which refers to the gap between those who have access to technology and those who do not. This divide can lead to inequalities in education, employment, and healthcare, as those without access to technology may be left behind in terms of opportunity and development.Despite these challenges, the evolution of technology continues to shape our world in profound ways. As we moveforward, it is important for us to embrace technology while also being mindful of its potential downsides. We need to work towards ensuring that the benefits of technology are accessible to all, while also protecting our privacy and addressing the digital divide.**科技演变及其对日常生活的影响**在现代社会,科技迅速发展,改变了我们的生活方式、工作方式以及与世界的互动方式。

Choose the one that you think is the best answer and mark your answers on Answer Sheet.(每题2分,共10分)Passage OneImagine you are a citizen of Athens, enjoying a warm Mediterranean night in the Theater of Heroes Atticus. You are wearing jeans and a T-shirt, listening to a great concert. Now rewind this picture 1,839 years. You are in the same seat, only you are watching classical Greek entertainment and wearing a simple chiton, or tunic. The city of Athens is a fun mix of the old and the new, the classic and the modem. Often a little shop is located next to the rains of a temple, which is only a block from a large, air-conditioned hotel. The great city of 2,500 years ago is still visible today.Ruins are the most obvious sign of ancient Athens, and the most famous of these is the Acropolis. The Acropolis is a large hill that was the center of life in Athens. On its slopes were temples, monuments, and theaters. From the top, you can see how the urban sprawl of Athens stretches out in every direction. On the top of the Acropolis is the Parthenon. This was once a huge temple to Athena, the city's patron. It was first completed in 432 B.C., but has been damaged and destroyed several times. However, visitors can still see the "tricks" used in building the Parthenon. The columns along the outside lean inward, and are slightly fatter in the middle. The temple is also higher in the middle than on the sides. All these effects make the Parthenon look perfectly straight from a distance.Only a block away from the Acropolis is the neighborhood of Plaka. The area, with its little shops and restaurants, is very popular with both tourists and locals, and is an important part of modem Athenian culture. Many great thinkers, writers, and political leaders lived in ancient Athens. The ruins of their homes and favorite spots are scattered throughout the busy port city. The hill where St. Paul addressed early Christian Athenians is located near the Acropolis. Great thinkers such as Pericles and Demosthenes spoke to the civil assemblies held at the Pnyx Hill. Today the Pnyx is an open-air theater for light and sound shows. Greeks still use some ancient sites, such as the Pnyx and the Theater of Heroes Atticus. During Roman times, in 76 A.D., gladiators used the Panathenaic Stadium for contests. The Olympics were held there in 1896, and today people still jog and exercise in the stadium.Tourism is very important to people who live in modem-day Athens. Thousands of people come every year to see these ruins and to tour the many museums that house artifacts from ancient times. This providesmany jobs and brings money into Athens, which helps the city pay for improvements. Athenians take pride in the accomplishments of their ancestors, and people from all around the world come to admire them. By looking around the city today, we can imagine what life was like in ancient Athens.1. Which of the following statements is INCORRECT about the city of Athens?A. The culture of the city is a mixture of the old and modem.B. Traces of the ancient city can still be found.C. Ruins and modem hotels co-exist in the city.D. All the temples are not far away from air-conditioned hotels.2. Which tourist attraction was ancient Athens most famous for?A. Plaka.B. Acropolis.C. Pnyx.D. Parthenon.3. According to the context, "tricks" in Paragraph Five refer to ______.A. mischievous actsB. confusing constructing skillsC. skillful constructing methodsD. constructing materialsPassage TwoWhat we know of prenatal development makes all this attempt made by a mother to mold the character of her unborn child by studying poetry, art, or mathematics during pregnancy seem utterly impossible. How could such extremely complex influences pass from the mother to the child? There is no connection between their nervous systems. Even the blood vessels of mother and child do not join directly. An emotional shock to the mother will affect her child, because it changes the activity of her glands and so the chemistry her blood. Any chemical change in the mother's blood will affect the child for better or worse. But we can not see how a looking for mathematics or poetic genius can be dissolved inblood and produce a similar liking or genius in the child. In our discussion of instincts we saw that there was reason to believe that whatever we inherit must be of some very simple sort rather than any complicated or very definite kind of behavior. It is certain that no one inherits a knowledge of mathematics. It may be, however, that children inherit more or less of a rather general ability that we may call intelligence. If very intelligent children become deeply interested in mathematics, they will probably make a success of that study. As for musical ability, it may be that what is inherited is an especially sensitive ear, a peculiar structure of the hands or the vocal organs connections between nerves and muscles that make it comparatively easy to learn the movements a musician must execute, and particularly vigorous emotions. If these factors are all organized around music, the child may become a musician. The same factors, in other circumstance might be organized about some other center of interest. The rich emotional equipment might find expression in poetry. The capable fingers might develop skill in surgery. It is not the knowledge of music that is inherited, then nor even the love of it, but a certain bodily structure that makes it comparatively easy to acquire musical knowledge and skill. Whether that ability shall be directed toward music or some other undertaking may be decided entirely by forces in the environment in which a child grows up.4. Which of the following statements is not true?A. Some mothers try to influence their unborn children by studying art and other subjects during their pregnancy.B. It is utterly impossible for us to learn anything about prenatal development.C. The blood vessels of mother and child do not join directly.D. There are no connection between mother's nervous systems and her unborn child's.5. A mother will affect her unborn baby on the condition that ____.A. she is emotionally shockedB. she has a good knowledge of inheritanceC. she takes part in all kind of activitiesD. she sticks to studyingVI.Cloze. Decide which of the words given in the box below would best complete the passage if inserted in the corresponding blanks. The words can be used ONCE ONLY. Mark the letter for eachword on Answer Sheet.(每题1分,共10分)The U.S. Department of Education is making efforts to ensure that all students have equal access to quality education. 2019年广东专插本英语作文答案2019 Guangdong Vocational College English Writing Test AnswerPart I Writing (30 points)Directions: For this part, you are allowed 30 minutes to write a short essay on the topic of "The Impact of Social Media on People's Daily Life". You should write at least 150 words and base your composition on the outline below:1. Social media has become an indispensable part of people's daily life.2. The advantages of social media in improving communication and information sharing.3. The disadvantages of social media in causing addiction and privacy issues.4. Your personal opinion on how to make good use of social media.Sample Answer:The Impact of Social Media on People's Daily LifeIn today's world, social media has become an integral part of people's daily life. With the rise of platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, communication and information sharing have been significantly transformed. On one hand, social media has facilitated connectivity among people around the globe. Instead of waiting for days to receive a letter, individuals can now communicate instantly with friends and family through messaging apps and social networking sites. Moreover, social media has also provided a platform for users to share their thoughts, experiences, and opinions with a wider audience, fostering a sense of community and belonging. However, the benefits of social media are not without drawbacks. One of the main concerns is the addiction that social media can create. With the constant notifications and updates, many individuals find themselves spending hours scrolling through their feeds, neglecting real-life interactions and responsibilities. Furthermore, the invasion of privacy on social media has become a prevalent issue, with personal information being vulnerable to hacking and misuse. In my opinion, the key to making good use of social media lies in moderation and self-discipline. Instead of mindlessly consuming content, users should strive to engage in meaningfulconversations and interactions. Additionally, it is essential to be cautious about the information shared online and to safeguard one's privacy through strong passwords and limited disclosure of personal details. In conclusion, while social media has brought about both positive and negative impacts on people's daily life, it is ultimately up to individuals to navigate the digital landscape responsibly. Both are former British colonies. Both have a Western European heritage. Both are liberal democracies. But on an issue as important as gun control, they could hardly be further apart.Australians responded to the 1996 Port Arthur massacre—where 35 people died at the hands of a lone gunman—by passing some of the world's strictest gun laws. Unsurprisingly, gun homicides and suicides fell. More surprising was the decline in other violent crimes. Australia hasn't had a mass shooting since. In the United States, however, gun control remains limited due to a powerful gun rights movement that sees any regulation as an infringement of personal freedom. The US has mass shootings regularly. Such entirely different responses to gun violence are a subject of study from opposite sides of the Pacific.10. The United States and Australia have different views on gun control.11. The 1996 Port Arthur massacre prompted Australia to pass strict gun laws.12. Gun homicides and suicides decreased in Australia after the implementation of strict gun laws.13. They try their best to make their life colorful and their work interesting. If they haveto do the same regular work, they’ll try to do it in different ways. Repetition and monotony ( 单调 )are what they can't stand. In the West of America, there is a beautiful old mountain village which is well known for its straw hats. The villagers there can make different styles of hats—hats for old gentlemen, for sweet and playful children, and for beautiful young ladies. People often go there to buy hats. One day there came a young tourist who entered a hat shop and found a very nice hat that cost five dollars. He said to the shop-keeper,” If you agree to sell at a cheaper price, I'd like to buy two hundred hats of this style.” “No, you should pay me at least ten dollars each if you wish to get so many hats of the same style.”“How's that” The tourist could not understand.“Well,” said the shop-keeper, “if you buy only one hat of this style, I can make it easily. If you order two hundred hats of different styles, I can also manage the business without much difficulty. However, it will almost bore me to death if you want me to make two hundred hats of the same style. If you are answering an advertisement, any information for which it asks must, of course, be given. This will usually cover your academic record and any further education and training. You may also be asked to give the names of one or two persons to supply references. For this purposeyou should choose people who know you well enough to vouch(保证) for your character and ability;and to be polite, you should seek in advance their permission to be named as referees. It will depend on circumstances how much you can carefully add about yourself. Your purpose is to bring to the notice of the employer any good reason why you rather than any of the other applicants should be chosen for the job. Therefore, if you feel you have any special skill or talent for the work, or particular interest in the line of business. let it be known. Finally, there is your use of language. The noise can be the sound of a jet airplane or machines in factories or loud music or other common sounds found at home or at work. A person only needs to hear the noise for a little more than one second to be affected. An American scientist has found that using aspirin can increase the temporary hearing loss or damage from loud noise. He did an experiment, using a number of male students at a university who all had normal hearing. He gave themdifferent amounts of aspirin for different periods of time, and then he tested their hearing ability. He found that the students who were given four grams of aspirin a day for two days suffered much greater temporary hearing loss than those who did not use aspirin. The hearing loss was about two times as great. The scientist said millions of people in the United States use much larger amounts of aspirin than were used in the study. He said these people face a serious danger of suffering hearing loss from loud noise.71.H earing damage or loss may be caused by .A.loud musicB. the sound of a jet airplane ormachinesC. common sounds at home or at workD. all of the above72.The passage suggests that one'shearing .A.will be damaged even if he hears a loud noise for a little more than one secondB.will be damaged even if he hears a loud noise for a little less than one secondC.will not be damaged even if he hears a loud noise for a little more than onesecondD.will not be damaged even if he hears a loud noise for a little less than onesecond73.According to this passage, we can draw a conclusion that aspirin. never be taken more than four grams a dayB.makes hearing damage from noise worseC.decreases hearing damage by two timesD.should never be taken for more than two days/doc/9d21ca5d356baf1ffc4ffe4733687e21ae45ff03.html lions of Americans are in danger of suffering hearing loss fromloud noise because they .A. take too much aspirinB. like listening to loud musicC. make loud noise at home and at workD. often take jet airplanes75.The scientist found from his experiment that a day for two days would affect a person's hearing.A. one gram of aspirinB. two grams of aspirinC. three grams of aspirinD. four grams of aspirinPassage FourAncient people had little idea of the nature of the earth's surface. But if they lived on the seashore, they knew that there was land and sea.People who lived near the sea noticed that there were two kinds of land. There were, first, little pieces of land surrounded by sea. One Latin word for “sea” is “salum”, which means “salt”. This isbecause sea water, unlike rain-water, contains salt—it is salty. So a piece of land in the sea was “insalt” in Latin, and this became isle in English. Then there was another kind of land that went on and on. It was “continuous land, and so became known as continent in English from the Latin “continēnts” meaning continuous. In English, we also speak of a continent as the mainland (“main” comes from the Latin “magnus” meaning “ great”), as opposed to island( isle-land).To the ancient Greek, there seemed to be three continents separated by sea. The Mediterranean Sea, in fact, gets its namefrom the Latin “medius” (middle) and “terra” (land). It was a sea that layin the middle, with three bodies of land around it. The three continents—Asia, Europe and Africa—are actually connected by land. Africa and Asia are connected by only the small Sina i Isthmus, from the Greek “isthmus”meaning “a narrow passage”, but Europe and Asia are connected by land for a thousand miles or more and it is customary to speak of Europe as a continent. Many geographers speak of the landmass of Asia plus Europe as Eurasia, and Eurasia plus Africa is sometimes called the World Island. The three together are surrounded by sea, so they forma large island, and they contain about 85 percent of the earth's population.76.P eople in ancient times knew .A.a lot about land and seaB. some continents were connectedC. little about the surface of the earthD. many people lived on the World Island77.The word “continent” comes fromlanguage.A.the LatinB. the RomanC. the GreekD. the Hebrew78.“Eurasia” is the name for the continents of .A.Europe and AsiaB.
