Make comments on the realistic situation of our education and point out the similarities and differences.一、电影的主题是什么?This story talks about a famous school, a group of rich students, a great teacher and the dead poets society. A sad one that can move anyone and cause one to think of our life we are leading. The plot is about a number of students who are taught by Williams about life. They aretaught how to enjoy themselves. This ends up causing great controversyamong the heads of the school. The students are terrific and even the dialogue is great. What this film showed me was that we have the responsibility and the joy of being alive in this planet. That we are dust, and we will go back to it, so we have precious little time to make a difference. That we have a moral obligation to "seize the day, and make our lives extraordinary" That the world, basically is ours. That the only limitations are within ourselves, and that we owe it to us to fight, to rebel against conformity, to change what we hate and keep what we love. That living in this world is a beautiful responsibility, and that only cowards dare not to change it for the better. This is the story of students at the respected “Welton academe”, a preparatory school in Vermont. Such schools in Vermont. Such schools were(and often still are ) very conservative institutions that serve as high schools for parents who insist on sending their children to the best university. Welton, like many prep schools, admitted only boys. The movie takes place in 1959. Mr. Keating, a young and exciting English and poetry teacher, who is determined to teach his students to life with absolute passion. Mr. Keating , using poetry as his vehicle teaches his students to challenge the institutions around them. The energetic man asks his student to call him Mr. Keating or ‘O Captain My Captain!’ It’s written by a poet named Walt Whitman about Abraham Lincoln. The private Welton Academy is a lifeless, completely cut off the world school. You will find the freedom of spirits ,the revelation of souls and the complicated story happened between the young studentsThe movie was only a group of rebellious students rebelling against traditional education. Right in this time, a non-traditional person happened to become their teacher. The conclusion was that the non-traditional yielded to the traditional , and the really prevailed against the romantic. The amazing behavior at the end of the movie was not shallow affectation, b ut a great shock of audiences’ hearts. The boys standing on the desks bid the most formal farewell to their bestteacher with the firmest expression in their eyes. The kettledrums ringing, the bagpipes playing, the movie reached its climaxThe second view of the movie left me a clear train of thoughts and a clear tenet. Every class given by Keating was a wonderful performance, greatly inspiring his adolescent students to emancipate themselves from such ideas as the study only and study for a good school. He knew what they needed most was to understand life and broaden their mind andvision so that they could shake off worldly affairs as fame and wealth and enjoy the life, love and poetic purity. His romantic enlightenment had no doubt wielded a profound influence on the boys’ mind and soul.二、你喜欢基廷的教育方式吗?为什么?The plot is about a number of students who are taught by Williams about life. They are taught how to enjoy themselves. This ends up causing great controversy among the heads of the school. 这种教育方式不是简单地传授知识,而是在告诉学生要怎样去认识自己,认识这个世界。

The essay should AT LEAST include three aspects: background, themes and conflicts.Carpe DiemHas your life been greatly changed by anyone? If so, how he/she affected your life? These are not easy questions to answer. Because none of you know what your life would be if those people hadn‟t appeared. But in the movie Dead Poets Society, the students in Welton Academy prep school were supposed to focus themselves on their school work, and their lives were completely changed by Mr. Keating, their new English teacher. This is my best-loved movie and it enlightens me on my future road. In this article, I‟m going to talk about the movie from four aspects: background, themes, conflicts and scenes.Although the movie was shot in the 1980s, the story went that a bunch of promising boys around seventeen was starting their new semester at the best preparatory school in the U.S. in 1959. During this time, American society was filled with the constant struggle between tradition and rebellion. The philosophical theme was frequently referred in the director Pete Weir‟s other works which were earlier than Dead Poets Society. Actually, similar movies concerning the pursuit of individualism, anti-institutionalization and teenage education can be backdated to the early 1950s.When thinking about America in the 1950s, I come up with three words. The first one is “teenager”. The word Teenager was created in the 1950‟s due to the tremendous population of those in this age category and because teenagers started gaining more independence and freedoms. Before WWII, teens had very little economic freedom, independence, and input into decision making. However, in the 1950‟s, expectations changed for the teenager s. Theeconomy started booming and families experienced a great deal of economic power, freedom and independence, including teenagers. Therefore, Things were starting to change. The teens of the …50‟s became the first teen-aged youths to stand out as a distinct group with interests, fashions, musical tastes and economic power of their own.Another word that occurs to me is “rebellion”. Perhaps, some would say looking at society in general that the first indication or act of teenage rebellion began in the 1950‟s. That‟s t rue. In the 1950‟s, teenagers w ere more inclined and encouraged to attend college, find a skill, and seek a successful career. On one hand, Parents wanted their children to have a bright future and a good college degree was just the first step. That‟s why we can see from the movie that such kind of college preparatory schools, like Welton Academy School, were so popular in the U.S. at that time. On the other hand, however, this newly found independence would often result in conflict between the parents and the children. Teenagers were not willing to live their life exactly as their parents designed. Instead, they wanted to make the choices all by themselves and do things which they were really interested in. Just like Neil, he was desperate to be an actor and pursue acting as his life career. But he didn‟t have the final say in his future because his overbearing father expected him to be a doctor. He failed to persuade his father and decided to kill himself to show his determination. Neil Perry‟s suicide repr esented the teenagers‟ rebellion against parents and authority.Apart from “teenager”, “rebellion”, “rock and roll” is also an important word which can not be ignored. Actually, rock …n‟ roll was another symbol of teenager‟s rebellion. Some even thought that it was the root cause of all this rebellion. Rock …n‟ roll is a kind of music with strong and power beats, sexually suggestive lyrics and has strong roots in the African-American blues and gospel traditions. Back to 1959s, conservatives denounced it as “jungle music” or “Satan‟s music” and thought it extremely unsuitable for the children. However, curiosity is human being‟s nature, and teenage rs began to crave for it. And they had extra money to buy the records. Consequently, teenagers in the 1950s have played a huge part in the rise of rock and roll music. There are also rock …n‟ roll elements mixing in the Dead Poets Society. In the first gathering of the society members, they started to read poems aloud. When it came to Meeks, he did it along with the strong rhythm of the drum beats. It fascinated all the boys and they began to dance with it. It was a really good innovation as he combinedpoems and rock …n‟ roll together harmoniously. As rebellion was one of the most significant features of the …50s, it was also the core theme throughout the movie. Without it, all the other themes can‟t make any sense. Neil, Todd and their fellow classmates were expected to be the future doctor, lawyer, and banker, etc. They had been doing what their parents wanted them to do all the time and never said no. But I can see the growing rebellious flames in their eyes when they were instructed to stick to the four “great” beliefs-tradition, honor, discipline and excellence. Once the seed of rebellion was planted, the fruit was inevitable. What they need was just a fertile soil to let it grow. When Mr. Keating led them out of the classroom in the very first class, another door in their life was opened. He was going to lead them to a wonderland where there were only freedom and beauty. Greatly affected by that ideal world, the kids were more inclined to change the hateful real world. They had their own ideas of making the realistic world a better one, but the challenges they were faced with were too powerful to be overwhelmed. As the result of an energetic but weak rebellion, Neil ended his life because he hoped to seek a brand new one in another world, and Mr. Keating were expelled by the school administration as the scapegoat of Neil‟s death. Although we can not say it was a su ccessful rebellion, but it did have profound effect on those teenagers. When the bland Todd stood on the desk and cried out: “Captain, my captain”, I know everything has changed, as well as everybody. Neil was dead, but his spirits remained.Throughout the se teenagers‟ rebellion, there was one belief backing them up. Because of this belief, they were able to get rid of all the fears coming from family and school. That was Carpe Diem, which means seize the day. Mr. Keating helped them to stretch their minds and exercise their rights to defiant acts of love for life and poetry, refuting society. Do not let others dominate your future and be the master of your life, not slaves, thus you can make your life extraordinary. Life is the most precious thing you can get and everyone has only one chance. Once you screw it up, you can never do it again. Therefore, you should try your best to make every single day count. Those who are not aware of the value of life will never truly understand the essence of Carpe Diem. Mr. Keating cited Thoreau‟s words “Most men live lives of quiet desperation.” in his poetry class. But what he commented on it was more instructive to students. Well, Icould still feel Mr. Keating‟s remark ringing at my ears: “Don‟t be resigned to that. Bre ak out!” He partly agreed with Thoreau, nevertheless, he held an optimistic view and had a constructive plan to release his students from their chained life. Since life is short, and we could only live once, which gives us precious little time to make a difference before we go back to dusts. Sometimes I may ask myself this question, what is the purpose of life? Nowadays, A lot of people are trapped from what they had build up, spending their whole life turning round and round around those meaningless devices. They are seeking an answer. But now with the help of Mr. Keating, I‟ve straightened it out: Medicine, law, business, engineering, these are all noble pursuits, and necessary to sustain life. But poetry, beauty, romance, love, these are what we stay alive for.Recently, as the movie 2012 becomes a hit in box office, the Maya‟s prophesy of Doomsday leads to a heated worldwide discussion about life and human. Assuming the world will come to its end on December 22nd, 2012, what would you do in the last few months of your life? I guess most people will try to live everyday to the fullest. The famous English moralist Jeremy Bentham thinks that maximizing the happiness of most people is the major principle and final purpose of life.1That is to say, we should take a positive attitude and enjoy everyday. Carpe Diem is a good method to help us to achieve that. I have to say, those students were so lucky to have a teacher like Keating, who taught them not only how to appreciate poetry, but also the appropriate attitude towards life.Conflicts appear everywhere in the movie, that‟s also why audience are so fascinated by it. They are eager to know how the conflicts deepen gradually and how they are solved eventually. In the movie Dead Poets Society, Mr. Keating was a hero. He shouted: “Boys, you must strive to find your own voice.” His viewpoints and thoughts on life stayed the same throughout the movie no matter what conflict was occurring. Influenced by him, the students became more independent in their thinking and discovered what they wanted out of life. The change in these students is what caused the main conflict of the movie. However, Keating‟s philosophies about life were not approved by the other teachers in Welton Academy who believed that the students were not emotionally equipped to cope with the kind of freedom that Keating advocated. They questioned Keating‟s teaching methods and made him under 1鲍钢,文化月刊,追求快乐,2009年12月,30great pressure. But Mr. Keating did not give up easily. As a result, the conflict deepened as Keating's students began to rebel. The boys start their own dead poet's society and begin living by the motto "Carpe Diem!”. One of the main characters, Neil Perry, discovered his true passion in life. However, his father wanted him to go through medical school and become a doctor, but Neil himself had his heart set on acting. His father lashed out on him for disobeying and Neil reacted drastically by committing suicide. The conflict reached its climax.Behind all these conflicts, behind all these storms, I see that group of people who have ideal thoughts in their heart are faced with the difficulties of real world. That is idealism versus realism. That is a battle, a war, and the casualties could be your hearts and souls,I feel like being a production in the manufacturing line of school, and society is the consumer? We can see there were two totally different worlds in the movie, one was the real world suppressed by rules and traditions, and the other was the ideal world filled with freedom and passion. Mr. Keating was the connection between two worlds. He was a respectable teacher in real world, but more importantly, he was the captain in the fantastic world who helped the kids to take the right attitude towards life. They tore some entire pages off their text books and threw them away, because their teacher regarded the theory contained in theses papers as sheer rubbish. They climbed onto and then stood upon the teacher‟s desk one by one in class, for Mr. Keating had required them to perceive the world from a different angle. All the students‟ passion and courage were aroused by Mr. Keating, and they wanted to break all the rules and fly in the blue sky. However, reality is invariably cruel. A teacher with such noble characters was actually expelled by the school. It was the tragedy of education.Neil‟s suicide was his last struggle against the cold middle-class value when his dreams were overwhelmed by the reality. Neil did not want to be a hero; he just can‟t betray his h eart. The hardest thing in one‟s life is to make choice. Many people have gone through this kind of dilemmas just like Neil. When your dream encounters the cruel reality, what would you do? Will you comply with the reality easily or never give up? This is a question. But I remember captain‟s words: be the master of your life, not slaves. We may lose something when we are trying to adapt to the society, but I hope the critical stuff will remain in our bones. Neil made his choice. His way is respectful, but I‟m not sure whether his noble motives can justify hissuicide. After all, cherishing life is one of most important things we have learned. There are some very depressing scenes, but they are very artful, and teach you of appreciation for those brave members of society that dare stand up for their beliefs, and rights to wrestling around with life. For my part, two scenes impressed me the most. The first one is in Mr. Keating‟s first class. He led his students to stand in front of the wall of trophy cabinets and began to cite Walt Whitman‟s poem “Oh Captain, my captain”, preferring the students to call him “captain” instead of “teacher”. He whispered the Latin phrase “Carpe Diem” by the boys‟ ears, made them believe it was the message the past students wished to convey on to them. At that time, I was totally absorbed in the scene and I felt the urgency in my heart to seize the day and savor every single moment in my life. When the students ran towards the cavern, I was again deeply touched by the several runnin g figures in the mist. I can‟t see the ir faces clearly, but my heart trembled violently with excitement. In the cavern, they let out the angers and suck out the marrows of life. During the day, they were under tight control of school authority and behaved in the way they were expected. But after the night fell, their souls were awakened and they began to act as whole and complete human beings who had dreams and passions. ''Two roads diverged in a yellow wood and I, I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference.''2Although you may encounter a lot of difficulties on that road, but don‟t worry, as long as you have faith and belief in heart, you will make huge difference. Like Neil, he learned to fight for his chance to do what he actually dreamed—being an actor, despite his father‟s interference; like Todd, he revealed his potential of creating poems by Keating‟s stimulation, which helped him regain confidence and faith in life. Each time I watch my favorite Dead Poets Society, I feel like having a spiritual Baptism. Living in this world is a beautiful responsibility, and only cowards dare not to change it for the better. Sometimes maybe all you need is just one lesson. From now on, I decide to seek “my” life, not contenting with merely “a” life.References2Taken from The Road Not Taken, by Robert Frost[1] /wiki/Dead_Poets_Society[2] /fifties_history/Teenage_Life_in_the_1950s.htm。
死亡诗社读后感 英文版
Dead poet societyThe book dead poet society is one of the few books which touches my heart and make me choke for something. I love it so much that when I finished it I had decided to go on it once. There are so many aspects deserving our commenting. Such as “Why do the school, Welton Academy, kill the personalities of children” ,“ Is right that educational ways of the teachers or parents to their children like those in that book” and “The faith of John Keating”……All of them are my beloveds, but the words “seize the day and make your life extraordinary” is my favorite. So I will illusion that in the book in the following. What is …seize the day?‟I have thought it was to do the things around me, you should do, before I read it. Then when I finished it I know I‟m wrong. Seize the day is to devote yourself to the things that you love to do and learn to how to choose our life. When in the classes of the school‟s origin teacher Dr. Hager, in face of the dull course, the students often said “You‟ll get used to old Hager”. But in the class of Keating, students are allowed to express their ideas and have the chance to find what they like and chase it.To be honest, in the class of the teacher, Hager, students have more chance to learn more setting knowledge. By it, students learn to give up to the bad situations and are more able to learn the survival regula tions. However, I think it‟s not what we need in our school dates. What is more important for us is acquiring the chances to divergent(发散)thinking and cultivate our creativities. In the future,we have plenty of time to infect the smell of adult world, so it is unnecessary for us harry to touch it. So I believe the meaning of …seize the day‟ is loving what love and persisting it without regret.Seize the day, is to have the courage to try what you really want to do and find what you like. Then treasure it. Life is not a race, but a journey to be savored each step of the way.生活不是一场赛跑,而是每一步都应该细细品尝的人生旅程。
《死亡诗社》英文影评及观后感
Many of us are losing ourselves because of the reality, frustration, the pressure or the authority. In fact, we are just like a chess, for others have arranged all for you. We spend a lot of time in those things we do not like. However, we are immature. We choose silence or choose to force ourselves to like it. We ourselves never dare to say "NO" loud, or never master our life in our hand.Perhaps, you will defend for yourself, "This is no other way to do "; Perhaps you will say, "Now that everything looks the same, can I be unique ";Perhaps you will say, "This is the reality, and no one can beat it"; perhaps, very likely, you will become one of them and establish the authority of parents to educate your children. Y ou have become a loyal defender of authority. There is an old golden Chinese saying: No one can exist who resists me .However, all in all, cannot it change?《Dead Poets Society》tells me that nothing is impossible. At that time, nothing is more important than yielding. What you have to do is to obey discipline and authority. To Rebel means no good results. In that old church school, in the solemn opening ceremony, taught by an old-fashioned and strict teacher, with the hope of the parents who have paved the road for them, they lose themselves. Tha t "Tradition” "honor" "discipline "" excellence " quells them.“Oh, captain, my captain! Where are you?”Fortunately, they met with Mr Keating. To help more young people to find his own, Mr Keating chose teaching. He taught students to live. Students set up "Dead Poets Society" to release themselves. He taught students not to blindly comply with authority. He asked each one to tear up the wrong page that others take as authority. He encouraged the students to listen to the sound of heart. Then Knox read love poems to a girl, expressed his love bravely. He encouraged the students to see the world with a new vision. He let everyone stand on a chair to watch the world. He helped students overcome psychological barriers. And then Todd finally dared to express himself in front of everyone. Also, finally, It was he who first stood up and told the truth.Oh, captain, my captain. We are so lucky to have you. Because of you, we lead a new life from now on.I was impressed by the scene. Finally, students stood one by one on the desk to speak for Mr. Keating. Though Mr. Keating would not be back again, his impact on students will exist forever.I think that their life will certainly become unusual and significant from now on.I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, I wanted tolive deep and suck out all the marrow of life, and not when I had come to die, discovered that I had not lived. To me,seize all to find out the meaning of life and one day the world will be different because of you.。

研究生影视赏析课《死亡诗社》详细答案
死亡诗社1. What’s the running theme of the film?I think the running theme of the film maybe the liberation of nature, the pursuit of freedom.Teacher Keating instilled free to the students, Led them to break the traditional education, His students under his education began to struggle for their dreams, begin to seek out their own inner yearning. The film teaches us to listen to inner voice. When we see traditional conservative ideas of the school and all students without blood drive, we hope that anyone can change that. The teacher keating came. Meticulously to see students to take notes, we would like to see some different, so keating said it was a waste of materials, so tear up a few pages. Saw a child respond to the teacher on the table, we hope to have inspire other boys, they were also stood up, coruscate gives we want them to glow of free breath.I think that the presence of the dead poets society give children who don't understand the poetry opened a door of freedom, though it only open in the darkness of night. I have always believed that poetry is a scalpel, resect the tumor of the thought, refinement on the hearts of those who have been silent, too.2. Do you like Keating’s educational ideas and his special ways of teaching and why?I like k eating’s deucationl ideas and his ways of teaching.because Hiseducation can give students a positive impact. From him, we can see the shadow of the artist. They have never been famous, but hiding in the corner of the city, to do their own dreams. He teaches the students not only knowledge but also the truth of human. He let the children understand the freedom of the life, give them the courage to pursue their dreams. His teaching is not popular with the traditional education idea, but the liberation of the student's thought.Under mr.keating’s guidance ,the boys begin to swin against the stream and pursue their dreams.todd Anderson becomes brave and learns to lead his own path.charlie Daltuon is punihed for “the call from god”.charlie is reminded that he should choose a cautious and wise way to suck all the marrow out of life.the most unlucky one is neil perry .he is too concerned with his ideal to make necessary compromise with reality.he put himself into an impasse and he kills himself in order to make his body free. This romantic teacher education his students with passion and dream, his experience is a tragedy, he chose a different path, butI think he is successful teacher, he gives a soul to the students.3. Do you think we can imitate Keating’s wa y of teaching? What difficulties are we facing if we do?This education may be difficult to replicate, because it’s the product of a particular period. When the Appropriate people attend at the right time, this form of education will happen. we can not think beyond society . On the background of a traditional educational, many things can not been controlled by people. If we do like mr.keating,Our leaders may not agree with us, we will lose our jobs. Protests from parents, life pressure and so on, will become our difficulties. Teachers without proper teaching materials, not every teacher can write their own books. The students in reality can not be like in the movie. The current exam system is not suitable for the keating's teaching method. In a word, in the concrete implementation, will encounter many difficulties. We can't live out of education, movies and life is not the same. We can accept the idea of Mr Keating, his ideas on education combined with the actual situation, create the education method is appropriate for my situation. The teacher should be in the transmission of knowledge, encourage students to develop their unique spirit at the same time. Every student is different, we need to give students the opportunity to develop their own talents.4. Why is the tradition so powerful and how can we break it out? Because in theschool, people with traditional idea holds the rights, they stick to the traditional education concept, there is no new sounds. When there is a new teacher put forward different opinions, then they beat him, and destruction of the development of new things. The formation of traditional also experienced a long time, after a long time of accumulation, traditionalbecome truth, cannot be changed. People always like to get accustomed to things, when used things began to change, they may feel panic, especially powerful men, they are afraid of losing power, will be to maintain the traditional.Break the traditional is very difficult. I think the first thing should be determined the truth. Only use the truth to convince people, let people understand the correctness of the new things, can make people change the traditional way, accept new ideas. Next,we need have a firm confidence. The truth prove that takes time, we may have to undergo countless failures to succeed. Tradition is also under the accumulation of time, gradually formed. Finally, to adopt the method of science. It is difficult to let people accept new things at a draught, so it's very important to the choice of methods, can adopt the method of osmosis, gradually to get people to accept.5. What do you think of Neil’s death? Is it avoidable? This is an extreme way, death is to escape, is a cowardly act. Neil's death has no value, changes nothing of his death, his pursuit of freedom is actually lost. His behavior not only took their own lives, and hurt the people around him. His parents lost their son, a teacher lost the opportunity to continue to education students. We felt sorry for his death, but it's not worth , this is wrong, will only make things worse. In fact, he can take some positive practice, through the communication to obtain the blessing of their parents, he can prove himself to his parents for his efforts to choose the right, he canask the teacher for help, all in all, positive think solution is much better than suicide.I think commit suicide can be avoided. If Neil can change their own character. If he is a cheerful person, if he can to the life full of hope, then he will not choose to commit suicide, but take a positive approach. In addition, if the parents can understand him, Neil in daily life show more love for him, give him confidence, to give him encouragement, so things can be resolved.6. How do comment on Neil’s parents? Are they so familiar to us? How do you deal with such parents?Neil's parents don't know how to express their love. They use the incorrect way to education child, lets the child repressed, finally choose death. In fact, the parents feel good choice, children are not like too, respect the child's interest is the best choice. my parents seldom asked me to do things I really had no interest or gave up my interest though they sometimes made decisions I didn’t like in the past of my life .So when I saw Neil’s father ,a stubborn man ,never allow Neil to act in the play which Neil likes most, I got shocked.I think with such parents need to be patient communication. Neil's parents don't know my children, they did not listen to child's voice, always make a choice for him. If I were Neil, I would rational express their views, to seek the aid of all and to persuade parents with me, I want to show results prove that I choose the right. On the other hand, I also want to understandtheir parents, understand their painstaking, understand that they are in order to I have a better future. I'll find the balance between my parents' hope and my own hobby.7. What do you think of the major members of the Dead Poets Society, particularly Cameron, the fink? The members of the dead poets society is a group of students willing to accept new things. They are students dare to seek freedom, they have their own dreams, they want to challenge the old education system. Although they failed, but their action is positive, they changed their, brave to challenge the whole school. I admire the members of the courage, each and every one of them is a hero. When they read poetry, they are the truly happy, their life is valuable. Although the conditions don't allow them to sing, but, the truth will prevail, dead poets society would not die, lives in people's hearts forever.I think Cameron is a disappointing boy.He said the teacher encouraged neil should seek for his dream,mr.keating should be blamed.but it is not the truth. The teacher wanted the young to be happier and live a rich life. I feel sorry for them .They are full of passion for their life but they lead a poor life .They have no right to choose their future .They parents do that for them .Y ou grow to be a banker ,and you grow to be a doctor .They have a lot of money but they are feeling sorry for themselves .The young have done nothing wrong but they have to be a man what their parents ask them to be.They all should be sympathized.8. Make comments on the realistic situation of our education and point out the similarities and differences. Our education is a kind of exam-oriented education. Learning is in order to can get high marks in the exam, we cultivate not to use the knowledge ability, but the ability to cope with exams. That’s why Chinese student studies very well, but the ability to work is very poor. We never care about the students' interest is what, the future want to engaged in what industry, we only care about students' scores. Students have no clear goals in life, very few have their own play space, most of the time is to do exercises. Teachers and parents are concerned about the students' grades, don't allow students playing games, our study life is boring.Education is a major part of American culture. Schools do more than just fill students' heads with knowledge. They pass on culture, traditions and values.American children start their education in elementary school. Most youngsters enter first grade at around six years of age. Children can prepare for this step by attending preschool and kindergarten from ages three to five. Y oung learners finish elementary school in fifth or sixth grade. From there, students go on to junior high school until eighth or ninth grade. Americans complete their required education in high school. They graduate and receive a diploma after twelfth grade. The students can not only learn theory knowledge, and, more importantly, to master the practical skills.。

《死亡诗社》英文影评第一篇:《死亡诗社》英文影评Stand up, always keep smilingAfter I saw this movie –dead poets society, I was totally shocked ,the only words in my mind is that :‘stand up ,and always keep smiling ”.What the movie showed to us is that a passionate and unconventional teacher inspired his students to fight against the conservational social system to pursue what they really wants.Although the final result of this movie is an unexpected tragedy, I believe that Mr.Keating got a perfect success when most of the students stood on the desk, in spite of the master’s threats, to show their respect to their teacher. From this movie ,I rethink profoundly that on matter what we meet with , we need to face it bravely , we need to know what we really wants or truly needs , and then we can spare no efforts to fight for it ,just stand up and always keep smiling ,never give up your dreams or your life.we should believe that life is full of sunshine and hope if you are brave enough.when we find the conflicts between dreams and the reality ,we should find ways to balance them ,and try best to live everyday ,gradually you can find that you are growing to maturity. At the end of this movie, I’m very sorry for Neil’s s uicide;maybe he found the freedom after his end his life.In my mind ,Mr.Keating is a good teacher ,he just like a mentor or aguide , he encouraged confidence and enthusiasm ,I hope that I can find myself ,and do the best of myself with his inspiration ,an d ‘suck out all the marrow of life ‘.however, he forgot to taught his students how to become brave enough to fight for their dreams or beautiful things. He forgot to say: Nevergive up, just stand up and always keep smiling, you can become a fighter!第二篇:死亡诗社英文影评Busy living or busy dying--the view after seeing “Dead Poets Society”What does life mean?Life is like poetry.Life is like music.Life is ambition.Life is freedom.A person should have confidence and independence, which leads you, inspires you to seek true youth and noble beliefs. In this key school with top graduation rates and a history of more than 100 years, it purports four pillars: tradition, honor, discipline, excellence. But when the students shut the door, the four pillars are turned into: hypocrisy, terror, decadence and impurity. They also give it a name: hell.Mr Keating's existence is a bunch of sunshine but also a dagger. He is their wisest “captain”, the most fearless spirital guide. He brings them to an imprisoned situation step by step. But when the children see light, they also smell death. When we are young, we can chase for lofty ideal and glorious death.Between unromantic living and regretless death, I will always choose the latter because “people are great for dreams”.After seeing the “Dead Poets Society”, I realize the value of living.Life is just a stage for us, not important in itself. What kind of role and content we select on stage is of importance.Whatever drama, poetry, tragedy, drama, mime or opera...Even a hideous mess or an empty-headed can be shining. The principle is: make your choice and pursue it in you life.“I went to the woods because I wanted to live deliberately.I wanted to live deep and suck out all the marrow of life!To put to rout all that was not life. And not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.”“O Captain!my Captain!”英师1班吴侃璇 100111045第三篇:《死亡诗社》英文影评My feelings after watching the film----Dead Poets Society“Dead poets society” is old.It is a film about conservative and innovation, realistic and romantic, new and old two forces competition. This movie is one of the most wonderful films I have ever watched.T o be honest, I finished the film with tears. When the boys were standing on the desks one by one, and calling the leaving teacher: “Oh!Caption, My Cap tion.” I could not help crying. It was really touching my heart.Campus drama in the history of the screen has been performed many times, do not dare to say all that we get the shock of the soul, but at least let us understand that we can have a different fu ture.“Dead poets society” once again reminds us that everyone of us is the only thing in the world, the most out of the ordinary, also the genius of the one and only.Do we want to do, take the bull by the horns, no pressure, no doubt, fear nothing, brave starts our pace, and shout out our true feelings to the world loudly.“Dead poets society” the story occurred in a school named Wilton college preparatory high school in the last century fifty's.The enrollment rate of good school has one hundred years of history and good reputation. The purpose of school is called the four pillars: tradition, honor, discipline, excellence. When the students shut the door, the four big pillars became: hypocrisy, horror, decadence and filthy. At the same time, the students also gave it a very vivid name: hell.A prologue and lens of depressive manifestations express strong deterrent and confining force of this“ hell” on students', it is like a little heat and emotionalcolor machine, and every students into qualified products processing are consistent. But all of this changed because Keating, the alien teacher.Mr.Keating's first appearance in the school's opening ceremony, with refined and courteous smile, likes a warm easy-going character of middle-aged men. This pair of deceptive app earance contrasts with his series of “shock the common customs” performance in sharp contrast color. In Keating’s first class, he led students away from the classroom with a light humming ditty, which discard the classics and rebel against orthodoxy on the surface, but against life.He asked the students to stop the impetuous pace, to face the old yellow photos, to listen to“ card horse Dean” the silent advice, to feel that the time is short and the life is dying.“Captain” led the students one by one to stand on the table and let them look down around. He told them, “Change an angle to have a look the world, you'll find different things.” “Captain” let the students walk around on campus, and do not follow others' pace.Because when you are walking with other people in the behind you will discover how easy obedient is, and how difficult sticking to your own personality is.“Captain” let classmates exercise on the playground with reading poems loudly, because the passion of exercise is most touch to the essence of life. With the influence of Mr Keating, some of his students founded their own “dead poet society”.Neil came to act without his father's agreement.T od told the girl who had boyfriend that he loves her, and wrote a poem for her. They did what they like to do, and they were happy. But other teachers and students' parents were not happy with that, Specially Neil's father. When he found his son went to act a buffoon without asking him, he was so angry. He wanted Neil to transfer the school, for he thought it was MrKeating's fault. But, Neil didn't want to.Then, that night, Neil killed himself.Neil died.Mr Keating became the one to be blame. And he was fired. Before he left, he smiled.Because he knew his students imbedded his mind deeply into their thoughts. That's enough!“Poetry, beauty, romance, loving these are what we stay live for”, we are just a person, not a product. We live on the earth with our own passion.Without doing what we like to do, I think I have never lived. So Neil chose to die.In fact, it's his father killed him.Parents regarded this school as heaves, but to the students, it was a hell.Parents always think things using their own minds. They never think for their children: are they like these majors? What are they like to do? They just know that becoming a doctor will be very honor. They never consider that their children are happy or not. They just know that becoming a doctor will earn a lot of money and have a good life. They always think they are right, do well for their children.Actually, they are wrong.Absolutely wrong!Mr Keating, the captain, who wanted to change the education system of the school and change the mind of parents, but failed. But I think it will come true one day.Maybe the life is a kind of torture! As long as you live you have to face everythi ng in life! But this “torture” not only bring you pain!If there is no evil, will you know warmth and happiness? In fact, you could turn a look, maybe you'll find out everything is not so confusing!第四篇:死亡诗社英文影评(推荐)Dead Poets Society After watching Les Choristes, I continued to watch Dead Poets Society.Immediately, I found that both of them had the same theme.I even felt that I didn’t need to spend more time finishing it.At this time, the teacher’s words came to my mind that it was homework for that week which no one coulddelay, so what I could only choose was to move on.The result proved that my reluctant choice was right.I gradually became moved and couldn’t help shedding tears.Especially, when I watched the last five minutes--the moment the boys standing on the desks one by one called to the leaving teacher “oh, captain, my captain” in the saddest voice, almost no words could describe my true feeling.Although it doesn’t tell us what will happen to Mr.Keating and at the same time it gives us a very big room to imagine with our own thought.Everything is summed up in the few words put over in the scene and Mr.Keating’s final “Thank you, boys.”Yes, the respectful teacher was their captain in their whole life.He interested them in the poets, but in fact in life.It also helped me to see and understand the precious feelings between human beings better.Neil Perry, the hero of the movie, was a fighter to old forces. He was a lovely and clever young man, with good marks ,handsomeappearance.Maybe he was one of the best example of perfect students. He tried to do what he wanted, but his father stopped him.His father asked him to be a surgeon and go to Harvard. If he did as his father ordered ,he may be a famous surgeon and live a simple life. But he couldn’t,because he met Mr.Keating.He wanted to find his own voice and fly in his own blue sky.At last,he couldn’t bear the pressure from his parents and killed himself in a freezing winter night.Neil’s story proved that how important it is to stand one’s ground no matter how hard it may be.T odd Anderson, another important role in the movie, wrote down “seizing the day”in the first class. At first sight,he was a student who just knew to learn and obeyed whatever his parents told him.He threw his pencil box which his parents gave him a s his birthday present with Neil’sencouragement.Mr.Keating asked and encouraged him to describe what did Hetman look like in his imagination. With the help of Neil and Mr.Keating ,he gradually became a fighter, standing in the opposite of the old forces. After Neil died ,he had to accept his parents’ and the schoolmaster’s authority and was forced to admit that Mr.Keating was the main reason for Neil’s death. At the end of the movie ,he firstly stood up on his desk to say goodbye to Mr.Keating.Before he stood up,hehad already known what was the result of his action, but he still did as he wanted to.He has been a true fighter then. After seeing this movie,I couldn’t calm down for a long time.It reminded me of my experience from my primary school to my univercity. When I was a child at school,my teachers were very strict to us.In our classroom,we must pretend to be the obedient sheep, not like in Mr.Keating’s class where his boys can be the free wolves. We were told that the answers in the teachers’ hands were standard.I want to ask what on earth is the standard answer.Everything has many aspects.Defferent people, different view, different answers.I think I’m so lucky that my family members have never give me any pressure in my study, but I always feel a kind of invisible pressure behind me.So I always work hard because I want to see the beautiful smile on my parents’ face when they know that I get the best marks. But many of my schoolmates were unlucky comparing with me.They lived an unhappy life because their parents gave them too much pressure that they can’t bear. They were always in sorrow because they would be blamed if they got bad marks. One day,if I have a child,I won’t give him or her any pressure, the one thing I will give him or her is that wings which belonging to them.Lethim or her fly freely in his or her own sky.At the same time,I want to tell all the parents all over the world that don’t give too much pressure on your children and let them take their own decision,or you will get nothing. When it comes to here, I have to say that Dead Peots Society is one of my favorite movie I have ever seen.I’m very impressed by many things from this movie. Now I want to share my favorite words in this movie.“I went to the woods because I wanted to live deliberately...I wanted to live deep and suck out all the marrow of life!T o put to rout all that was not life...And not when I came to die, discover that I had not lived...”These words definitely moved me and made me think of my favorite quote-seize the day, and make our lives extraordinary.I always believe strongly that if we all really do like this, the world, basically will be ours.As we all know, the only limitations are within ourselves, and we owe it to us to fight, to rebel against conformity, to change what we hate and keep what we love.In fact, living in this world is a beautiful responsibility, and only cowards dare not to change it for the better. The fact that the cast was basically my age, and was passing through the same dilemmas and situations I was facing made it all so much more powerful.I know I haven’t seized the day completely, but I will keep on trying.第五篇:死亡诗社英文影评Dead poets societyThe movie which the first time I heard is recommended by my friend, because the movie is so old that I didn’t want to watch it.But this time my teacher also recommended it, I think it must be a good movie. After watching it, I felt a little sad, not because of its end, but think o us today. There was much to thinkabout in the film, maybe different people have different ideas. The film tells us a story of the U.S.wilton elite school in 1959.it’s a traditional and old fashioned school which like a prison. The ancient bells ushered in new semester and also ushered in a new teacher Keating. He calls himself the captain. The captain like a lighthouse will lead students through the gloom. In his classroom, he encouraged his students to stand on the desk, with a new perspective to observe the world around. He introduces many thoughtful poetry to students, even allow students to tear up those dull textbooks. On the other hand they were encouraged to search the beauty and the real life in the poetry.Neil made me the deepest impression, he was fond of poem and the performances, but he was asked to become a doctor;he was the first one to comprehend Keatin g’s thought, but also he is the first one to reconstruct” Dead Poets Society“.on the stage he found his target, but strict father didn’t care about what he thought.Neil did not want to become a father expect people, but also unable to become a real himself, he chose to end his own life.Todd this closed and timid child, he never dared to show true himself, he was afraid that others evaluate him.Under the guidance of the teacher, he slowly began to bloom his own ideas.Neil's death made him grew up, when Keating was dismissed, he is the first one to stand on the table and shouted: Oh, the captain, my captain!Under his leadership other students also stand on the table, the moment was very impressive.I have learned many things from these two kids, the most difficult is to choose in our life. When reality and the ideal have contradiction, what kind of choice you will make? There will certainly be a gap between in reality and the ideal, but how we should do? The answer is to be the master of life, not the slave oflife. When we have goals we should be bold to pursue.Carpe diem.Seize the day, boys.Make your lives extraordinary.Do real ourselves, as the film said, ”I went to the woods because I wanted to the live deliberately.I wanted to live deep and suck out all the marrow of life!To put to rout all that was not life. And not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived."。

这位"Captain",教会了大家用不同的眼光看待事 物,例如,从不同的角度来看这个教室,只需要 站在课桌上。这位"Captain",启发了Anderson写 诗的潜能。首先用惠特曼的诗句:“I sound
my barbaric yawp over the rooftops of the world.”
The port is near, the bells I hear, the people all exulting, While follow eyes the steady keel, the vessel grim and daring;
But O heart! heart! heart! O the bleeding drops of red, Where on the deck my Captain lies,
with passion. Medicine, law, business, engineering,
these are all noble pursuits, and necessary to sustain life. But poetry, beauty, romance, love, these are what we stay alive for.
影评 死亡诗社 全英文500字The Conflict of the Dead Poets Society
The Conflict of the Dead Poets SocietyWhen we talk about the conflict, the first word comes into my mind is “controversy”. There exist a fight between two sides, no matter mentally or in physically. We cannot judge which side is absolutely right, but we could choose a better one. In this movie—the Dead Poets Society, the main conflicts are between the between the reality and dream, and between the rebellion and obedience. When I was at the age of 17, I was in senior Grade three. Time was spent in studying and endless works. I never put my dreams into consideration. What I could do was to continue my endless homework and to except to go to a good university.I asked myself after finishing this movie what If I met a teacher like Mr. Keating when I was 17, a teacher who can break the traditional teaching method and tell students to pursue the real life, some coward person is less likely to step ahead at the expense of giving up the chance of attending a college, like me, or Carmon in the movie, while some brave people can do, like Neil, Charles and Knox.Bold men like them are more likely to experience a more fantastic life. Neil could take a risk of going to the audition and finally gets the opportunity of playing a part in the drama. Charles, is a total rebel. He hides naked woman’s picture and then writes poems on the back, invites girls to the secret cave and read classical romantic poems to them, publishing a petition requiring girl into thishigh school in the name of “the dead poets society”. What his conduct is obviously against the principle of the school—tradition, honor, discipline and excellence. And Knox, who falls in love with a beautiful girl named Chris who has had a boyfriend already, nerves to expression his affection to her and won her heart.Nevertheless, craven person like Carmon, who is afraid of ripping out of the poets books, who also attend to the dead poets society, who gives the secret information to school after Neil’s death, who hovers between the rebellion and obedience and finally chooses to obey the group, may never get the real things he want. And be happy. Perhaps one day he will sit in the classroom of ivy league university, recalling his happy day spent with a group of young boys who could catch their dreams bravely, but he will never be one of the group anyone, for he has chosen to be obedient to the reality. That is the first conflict—the rebellion and obedience.Additionally, the second conflict is between reality and the dream. While the students look about as stirred up as a cesspool, it is Mr. Keating who arouses their dreams in the deep of their hearts. When He whispers to the students “carpe diem” which means to seize the time and make lives extraordinary. Numb students start to wake up and to be conscious of the real meaning in life. Everyone start to pursue their life meaning instead of spending their entire time in studying.Neil dreams to be an actor, Todd dreams to a real poet, Knox dreams to winChris’s heart, Charlie dreams to get freedom, and Carmon never talks about his dream. But they all face the same reality—going to college and finding a good job. That is what teacher and parents want to see.If dream is confronted with reality, someone will choose to stick to their dreams and even show his determination by suicide, like Neil, while someone choose to turn back quickly and flee away, like Carmon. People who stick to dreams may die or be successful. People who flee away will never achieve his dream, cause at the beginning of his rode to dream he is defeated by reality. What can we do, when dream is confronted with reality, is to tighten your tooth and hold on. You should never choose to give up your lives, because living in the world is the where the hope is. You may say I am a dreamer, but I am not the only one. You should believe that on the way to dreams, you are not alone. 死亡诗社英文影评
He was their inspiration. He made their lives extraordinary. There's so much good about this movie. The first time I saw it I watched it solely for plot and I loved it. Now I've seen it again and watched Peter Weir's filming and timing which is also great. Robin Williams is a terrific actor when he's serious. He proved it in Good Will Hunting but he proved it first here. If you liked that movie and your liking it had something to do with Williams than you will like this one. The plot is about a number of students who are taught by Williams about life. They are taught how to enjoy themselves. This ends up causing great controversy among the heads of the school. The students are terrific and even the dialogue is great. This is a movie that I can't imagine anyone not liking. It is good in every way. There are certain films that get under your skin, never to come out. They change your life, subtly altering your perceptions of reality, almost always for the better.Dead Poets Society is one of those few films.I saw the movie back when I was in High School. I had a teacher who told us that we really needed to watch it; in fact, it was our "homework" for the day. We didn't need to bring back a report, or talk about it in class. All he asked from us was to watch it, make up our own mind about it, and that was it. As you can imagine, many friends of mine didn't watch it at all; I did. And yes, I feel I changed a bit from there on.Back when you are young, you never really stop to think what in the world you are doing with your life. You simply live for the day, hope your grades will be enough to pass, and that's it. Long term thinking involves maybe flirting with a girl. Nothing more. What this film showed me was that we have the responsability and the joy of being alive in this planet. That we are dust, and we will go back to it, so we have precious little time to make a difference. That we have a moral obligation to "seize the day, and make our lives extraordinary" (my favorite quote in all movie history). That the world, basically is ours. That the only limitations are within ourselves, and that we owe it to us to fight, to rebel against conformity, to change what we hate and keep what we love. That living in this world is a beautiful responsability, and that only cowards dare not to change it for the better. The fact that the cast was basically my age, and was passing through the same dilemmas and situations I was facing made it all so much more powerful. So here I sit, 12 years from that day. I still don't think I have seized the day completely. But I keep on trying; I always will. I wonder how many people were transformed by this gem of a movie; I hope many.10 out of 10. A definitive masterpiece. The movie is one of the most wonderful films I have ever watched. To be honest,I were always thinking that there were few movies or stories that could indeed touch me from the bottom of my heart in the past few years .Now I have realized that there are good ones in the world .With tears I finished enjoyingthe last five minutes.Alomst no words can describe my true feeling the moment the boys standing on the desks one by one calling the leaving teacher “oh, captain ,my captain .”in the sadest voice. The only thing I know is that I reallly like it . Yes ,the respectful teacher is their captain in their whole life .He makes the students know what life is .He interests them in the poets, but in fact in life . It helps me to see and understand the precious feelings between human beings better .I even have cried for a long time ,thinking of the things in the teacher’s eyes .He did not want to leave his students but he had to for his different teachig method against the traditional education system. This story talks about a famous school,a group of rich students,a great teacher and the dead poets society.A sad one that can move anyone and cause one to think of our life we are leading.Seeing the student named Neil dying for his dreams,I was reminded that my parents seldom asked me to do things I really had no interest or gave up my intere st though they sometimes made decisions I didn’t like in the past of my life .So when I saw Neil’s father ,a stubborn man ,never allow Neil to act in the play which Neil likes most,I got shocked .We are human ,notproducts .How can we stand being made into shapes as products? We human have thoughts and emotions .No one is born to make another happy .We are born to make ourselves happy and enjoy the sweety of the dreams we have in our heart.Neil was not born to be a doctor as his father thought.Neil killedhi mself in the end .No ,it’s his father that killed his poor son .Without hope and dreams ,only with an arranged future ,Neil ended his young life . I do not know how despair he was when shot to himself . And I am not sure how sad when his parents saw their son died in the study. I saw they cried . I saw Neil’s friends running in the snow ,crying .A young life dispeared.Whose fault ?One of his classmate called Carmon said the teacher encourged Neil should seek for his dream ,Mr.Keating should be blamed. But it is not the truth. The teacher just wanted the young to be happier and live a rich life . I like his words“I went to the woods because I wanted to live deliberately. I wanted to live deep and suck out all the marrow of life.To put to rout all that was not life. And not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.”Do their parents and the other teachers in the school know what the young want? Do they have an idea what their kids expect to be in the future ? Do they know what the students call this famous school ?Parents find the most students graduated from this school become somebody in their country. They hoped their kids can be like them one day.But in students’mind it’s hell .Yes, it’s the hell on the earth .The same haircut ,the same books ,the samesuits, evething is the same .Do they ever think the young are not boys ,not yet men ,and all things they need are time ?It’s unfair for them to take on so much responsibility.I feel sorry for them .They are full of passion for their life but they lead a poor life .They have no right to choose their future .They parents do that forthem .You grow to be a banker ,and you grow to be a doctor .They have a lot of money but they are feeling sorry for themselves .The young have done nothing wrong but they have to be a man what their parents ask them to be .Maybe tne only thing they did is wrong is that to be their parents’s sons .。

My Review on Dead Poets SocietyHaving seen this movie, I have learned a lot. First, some encouraging sentences were said by the teacher,Keating, for example,Carpe diem, seize the day, boys, make your lives extraordinary. Carpe diem is from Latin, which means seize the day. The reason why he said it was to encourage his beloved students to live a good and meaningful life for the tome being. Keating was the teacher who was absolutely different from the others in Welton Academy, the “best prep school in America”. In my eyes, he was just like the light lightening the road of his students to their future. At the same time, Keating’s passion for poetry inspired some of his students to set up a secre t club. He said:“We don’t read and write poetry because it’s cute. We read and write poetry because we are members of the human race. And the human race is filled with passion. And medicine, law, business, engineering —these are noble pursuits and necessary to sustain life. But poetry, beauty, romance, love — these are what we stay alive for.”What is more, Keating brought a new idea where students can be accepted as an individuals. He asked students to march differently, just according their own willing, and he opened the boys’ to their numb acceptance of conformity , and get them think about the endless possibilities in the later life. And there was a scene in the movie, Todd was a shy boy, and he could not demonstrate himself in the class. With his encouragement, Todd became less frightened and more at ease expressing himself in front of his classmates. And meanwhile, he gradually spoke out immediately what he has in his mind without being afraid of becoming others’ laughing stock. It was not only Todd’s success, but also was Keating’s.Second impressed a lot was Todd’s story. His parents sent him a study board as the birthday gift, the same birthday gift as last year. His parents wanted to use the gift to remind him that he should always study hard to improve himself and not put up with their expectations. They never know Todd did not like the gift at all, which drove himin a depression because he thought his parents never cared about him. He was terribly burdened by his parents’ expectations. And with the Neil’s encouragement, he threw the study board, which indicated that he would get rid of those so-called burden and truly be himself. In the end, what touched me most was the Neil’s death. Neil was mad at acting because he thought it could allow him to express himself openly and sincerely , to experience a kind of different life. While his father did not allow him to take acting as a career. And later, he felt he totally lost the control of his own life. He was forced to leave Welton and to give up his beloved acting career. And he had to take up one course he did not show interest in. And, he committed suicide. Was his father to be blame? Was the academy to be blame? May be yes, may be no.All in all , we should find our own way. Boys, you must strive to find your own voice. Because the longer you wait to begin, the less likely you are to find it at all.。

A sad one that can move anyone and cause one to think of our life we are leading. The plot is about a number of students who are taught by Williams about life. They are taught how to enjoy themselves. This ends up causing great controversy among the heads of the school. The students are terrific and even the dialogue is great. The amazing behavior at the end of the movie was not shallow affectation, but a great shock of audiences’ hearts. The boys standing on the desks bid the most formal farewell to their best teacher with the firmest expression in their eyes. He knew what they needed most was to understand life and broaden their mind and vision so that they could shake off worldly affairs as fame and wealth and enjoy the life, love and poetic purity. His romantic enlightenment had no doubt wielded a profound influence on the boys’ mind and s oul.二、你喜欢基廷的教育方式吗?为什么?The plot is about a number of students who are taught by Williams about life. They are taught how to enjoy themselves. This ends up causing great controversy among the heads of the school. 这种教育方式不是简单地传授知识,而是在告诉学生要怎样去认识自己,认识这个世界。
英语影评 死亡诗社 Dead Poets Society
Dead PoetsSocietyIt has been twice that I watched this brilliant film. On the first time , I was very young , so I only got some simple ideas about the film. The smart teacher , Mr. Keating , the beautiful scene of Welton Academy , different kinds of characteristic students which were still very vivid in my mind before I watched the film twicely. I didn’t whole understand what the film want to tell me , to let me know. I was merely very happy when Captain taught them the poetry , very excited when the dead poets society was rebuilt , very sad when Neil committed suicide. So , after some years ,when I watched this film the twice. I seemed to catch something behind the scene, hidden behind the poetry, behind the characters. The film is very attractive , whatever on its meaning , its plot or its actors. It actually tells a story about education, about freedom , about “ carpe diem”.Welton Academy is a conservative, aristocratic elite prep school which was honored by its four pillars :tradition, honor, discipline and excellence. It was on behalf of the tradition, the dogma, the cage trammeling youngers creative ideas. On contrast of the Welton, the new teacher, Mr. Keating, was the symbol of freedom, creativeness and passion. The film is the conflict of the two.Mr. Keating inspires his students to jump out of the trap of the school. His humor and wisdom encouraged the students, making his students find their potential , their gift , their generous. Seven of his students, Neil Perry, Todd Anderson, Knox Overstreet, Charlie Dalton, Richard Cameron, Steven Meeks, and Gerard Pitts, united together and decided to revive a secretive literary club which was formerly builtby their tutor, called “dead poets society”.Both Neil and Todd were under the parental pressure. Their parents ignores their sons’eager, their acquire them to become lawyer or doctor. But Todd wants to be a writer and Neil dreamed to be an actor. When the climax comes , Neil violated his father’s order and was not able to muster his courage to talk with his father , to declare his dream. He go against his father and attend acting the play “A Midsummer Night's Dream” secretively. However , his father finds out , becomes very furious. Neil lost his hope and feelshimself helpless and choose the tragic ending. The students finally surrendered , the death of Neil was imputed to Mr. Keating and he was dismissed. This makes me very sad because of the tradition’s mighty power, putting the freedom to death. But I was very happy to see in the end, the students stepped on the desk and spoke out“ O captain , my captain”. This I thought was the brave protest against the institution, against the symbol of tradition, Mr. Nolan. As far as I concerned , the film tells us what the true meaning of education : Discover yourself. We received education is to become the person we would like to be. It doesn’t not mean we should become what our parents, our teacher and our school want us to be, it was up to ourselves. We need to stick to pursue our dreams , to become who we really are.。
