高中高二英语外研版选修六知识点精讲:Module 6 War and Peace Period One
话题导入War and PeaceGenerally, war is repugnant, but peace is welcome. While peace is the ultimate goal of all of our undertaking in this world, war has been inevitable in the course of human civilization.Does man have an innate taste for war?Or is it just an acquired scheme learned from human society? We only know that there hasn’t been any period in the history during which the world was really at peace.Human beings pursue peace and prosperity through the establishment of families, communities, and nations. Why should we let all these be destroyed by wars?To reduce the possibility of war to the lowest extent,I have two suggestions.First of all, education should be consolidated to eliminate the brutality(粗暴) and beastliness in human nature.Knowledge derives from education and is a surer road to wisdom.Wisdom enables us to distinguish right from wrong. It also teaches us restraint and tolerance, two effective means of preventing wayward killing and destruction.Anothercure is religion. Most religions in the world advocate forgiveness, which dissolves hatred and revenge.Consequently, education and religion working side by side can transform a barbarian into a civilized person. With wisdom and love, the human race as a whole will detest war and embrace peace.Choose the best answers according to the passage:1.What does the writer advocate about war and peace?A.To reduce the possibility of war.B.To get rid of war in the world.C.To call for people’s love.D.To call for people’s tolerance.答案 A2.Which of the following way is the way the writer suggested to keep peace? 2017-2018学年高中英语 Module 6 War and Peace单元小结 外研版选修6(1)
Nowadays, most people long for peace and condemn war. Peace is the very thing that most countries have gone after.
1939 年 9 月德国入侵并占领了波兰,这标志着第二 次世界大战的开始。二战大约持续了 7 年。后来许多国 家,包括英国,都向德国宣和努力是值得的。
The most important and memorable battle of the war was Operation Overlord. The situation at Omaha Beach where American troops landed was so bad that its commanders even thought about abandoning the operation. To our great astonishment, eventually, the soldiers made a breakthrough with great courage and the D-Day landing was successful. During the landing, some soldiers drowned in the deep water, others wounded by the bullets or shells. Fortunately, some soldiers were picked up. When some old soldiers think of the scene now, they still feel shocked and frightened. On 6 June, 2004, survivors with different nationalities of the D-Day landing returned to France to watch the cemetery and memorial overlooking Omaha Beach to remember their lost comrades.

Module 6 War and Peace Section Ⅰ Introduction &Reading-Pre-readingIs it possible to persuade mankind to live without war? War is an ancient practice which has existed for at least six thousand years. It was always bad and usually foolish, but in the past, the human race managed to live with it. Modern cleverness has changed this. Either Man will end the existence of war, or war will end the existence of Man. For the present, it is nuclear weapons that cause the most serious danger, but bacteriological or chemical weapons may, before long, offer an even greater threat. If we succeeded in ending the existence of nuclear weapons, our work will not be done. It will never be done until we have succeeded in ending war. To do this, we need to persuade mankind to look upon international problems in a new way not as contests of force, in which the victory goes to the side which is most skilful in killing people, but by settling in accordance with agreed rules of law. It is not easy to change very old mental habits, but this is what must be attempted. There are those who say that the acceptance of this or that ideology (意识形态) would prevent war. I believe this to be a big mistake. All ideologies are based upon dogmatic statements (强词夺理) which are, at best, doubtful, and at worst, totally false. Their supporters believe in them so deeply that they are willing to go to war in support of them. The movement of world opinion during the past few years has changed very greatly as we can welcome. It has become a commonplace (老生常谈) that nuclear war must be avoided. Of course very difficult problems remain in the world, but the spirit in which they are coming nearer to is a better one than it was some years ago. It has begun to be thought, even by the powerful men who decide whether we shall live or die, that negotiations should reach agreements even if both sides do not find these agreements wholly satisfactory. It has begun to be understood that the important struggle nowadays is not between different countries but between Man and the atom bomb.Section_ⅠIntroduction & Reading —Prereading [原文呈现][读文清障]The DDay Landings —Passage 1In September 1939, Britain declared war on①Germany after Germany invaded② Poland.
