1My School HolidaysThe summer holidays are my favorite time of the year! I get a whole two months off from school and get to sleep in late, play outside, and have fun adventures. This past summer was the best one yet.The first week I just relaxed at home. My parents both had to work during the day, so I spent a lot of time playing video games, watching TV, and reading books. I got pretty bored of that after a few days though. I'm glad when the second week came around and my grandparents visited from out of town!Grandma and Grandpa stayed with us for ten days. We did so many fun activities together as a family. One day we went to the beach and I got to bury Grandpa in the sand! Another day we drove up into the mountains and went hiking. I saw a deer and her two little fawns. We also went to the movies a few times to see the new superhero films that had just come out. After my grandparents left, my parents signed me up for summer camp for two weeks. I was a little nervous at first because I didn't know any of the other kids. But I quickly made a bunch of new friends! We did lots of arts and crafts, played games and sports, and even went on a few field trips. My favorite was going to the natural history museum and getting to see the dinosaur fossils. The rest of the summer I spent going to friends' houses for playdates and sleepovers. We had big backyard water fights to stay cool in the hot weather. I practiced my basketball skills and played endless games of pick-up in the park. A couple times we went camping and made s'mores over the campfire. Those are some of my favorite memories. As the calendar turned to August, I started getting a little sad knowing the summer was coming to an end. But I was also excited to go back to school and see all my classmates again. We had gotten assignments to read a few books over the break. I really enjoyed the one about the kid who went on fantastical adventures in his grandmother's attic. When I arrived for the first day back, my new teacher Mrs. Roberts had us go around the room and talk about what we did over the summer. I had so many fun stories to share! I told themall about the beach days, hiking, summer camp, sleepovers, and my new books. A couple other kids had been on big vacations, but I think I had one of the most exciting summers overall. Now that I'm back in school, I miss the endless free time and fun I had over summer break. But I'm trying hard to pay attention, get good grades, and be on my best behavior. Recess, gym class, and weekends help break up all the time spent sitting at my desk. I'm already counting down the days until next summer though! I can't wait for another few months of pure freedom and joy. Hopefully it'll be even better than this last one. What I Did During the HolidaysWhen I think back on my past school holidays, some of my fondest memories are from the winter breaks. I love when it gets cold enough for everything to be covered in a blanket of white snow! Opening up presents on Christmas morning is magical. And having weeks upon weeks with no school and nothing to do but play in the snow is a kid's dream! This past winter break was especially fun. The first big snowstorm hit a few days before Christmas. My dad pulled me around the neighborhood on a sled and we made a snow family in the front yard. When my cousins came over for the holiday, wehad an epic snowball fight until we were soaked and shivering. Grandma made us mugs of hot chocolate to warm us back up.After opening all my presents from Santa on Christmas morning, I spent the rest of the break outside as much as I could.I went sledding at the big hill by the elementary school, and built snow forts and tunnels in the backyard. A few times Dad took me ice skating at the outdoor rink. I'm still pretty wobbly on the ice, but I'm getting better!Whenever it would stop snowing for a day or two, my neighborhood friends and I would get crafty. We made penguin sculptures by stacking up snowballs and using rocks for eyes and a carrot nose. One time we tried making an entire snow-family, shaping out a mom, dad, son, daughter, and even a dog! It was hard work, but we were proud of our winter artwork. On the days it was too cold and windy to stay outside for long, I occupied myself inside with movies, video games, and books. My favorite was reading the new fantasy novel I got for Christmas about a young wizard-in-training who has to save his school from an evil villain. I spent many a snow day curled up by the fireplace, transported to that magical world. Before I knew it, the calendar pages had flipped to January and it was almost time to head back to school. The weight ofheavy backpacks and homework was looming over me again. But I tried to stay positive and enjoy what little remained of the winter break. I convinced my parents to let me have one more sleepover with my friends, where we swapped stories about our favorite holiday presents and memories. Finally, my return to school was made a bit easier thanks to the foot of snow that was still on the ground. During recess, it was like an extension of winter break as we resharpened our snowball and fort-making skills one last time. I'll miss those snow days filled with infinite freedom and possibility. But I know I have many more winter breaks awaiting me in the coming years to make even more frosty fun!篇2Hi there! My name is Emma and I'm 10 years old. I love learning English and my favorite book is the New Concept English book 2. Today, I want to share my thoughts on the questions from Lesson 38. Get ready for a fun adventure! The first question asks about the different types of trees. Well, let me tell you about the trees in my neighborhood park. There are tall oak trees with big, strong branches that provide lots of shade for picnics. The maple trees have beautiful redleaves in the fall that crunch under my feet. And my favorite is the weeping willow tree with its long, droopy branches that create a little hideaway when I crawl underneath. Trees are so much fun to climb and explore!Next, the book asks about different vehicles. My dad works at a car factory, so I know a lot about cars. The smallest ones are called compact cars, and they're perfect for zipping around the city. Sedans are a bit bigger with room for the whole family. Then you have SUVs which are huge and can go off-road. My uncle has a pickup truck for hauling heavy loads. And don't forget about buses and trains for public transportation! I love watching the vehicles zoom by from my bedroom window. The third question is about games children play. That's an easy one! During recess at school, we play tag, hide-and-seek, and jump rope. At home, I have a basketball hoop in my driveway where I practice my free throws. Board games are fun too, like Candy Land and Chutes and Ladders. Sometimes, my friends and I make up imaginary games where we pretend to be superheroes or explorers. Games are the best way to use your creativity and energy!Hmm, now we have a question about jobs people do. My mom is a nurse at the hospital, which means she helps take careof sick people. I've visited her at work and everyone wears colorful scrubs. The police officers in our town keep us safe and direct traffic. I've also seen firefighters rush to put out fires and rescue people. Construction workers build new houses and offices. There are so many interesting jobs that help our community!Oh, this next one asks about holidays and festivals! My favorite holiday is Christmas when we decorate a tree, hang up lights, and open presents. For Thanksgiving, we travel to my grandparents' house and eat a huge turkey dinner. On the 4th of July, we watch fireworks and have a backyard barbecue. And every autumn, our town has a harvest festival with hay rides, pumpkin carving, and delicious pies. Holidays are wonderful times to make special memories with family. The last question discusses leisure activities that people enjoy. My dad loves fishing and takes me along sometimes to cast our lines into the lake. Camping is awesome because we get to roast marshmallows over the campfire and sleep in a cozy tent. For a relaxing afternoon, my mom and I will go for a hike on the nature trails and look for wildlife. I take art classes where I get to paint, sculpt with clay, and do all sorts of creative projects. There's nothing better than having fun and making memories!Well, that's my take on the questions from Lesson 38. Learning English is such an adventure when I get to explore all these fascinating topics. I can't wait to see what other fun lessons are coming up in my New Concept English book. Thanks for reading my essay! English is super cool.篇3My Big BrotherI have a big brother named Tom. He is 12 years old and I am8 years old. Tom is really awesome and I look up to him a lot. He is kind of like a hero to me. I want to tell you all about my amazing big brother!Tom is really smart. He gets good grades at school, especially in math and science. I'm not as good at those subjects as he is. Sometimes when I'm struggling with my math homework, Tom helps me understand it better. He is very patient and explains things clearly in a way I can understand. I've learned so much from him. Tom also reads a lot of books, even ones without pictures that seem boring to me. But he says reading helps his imagination grow. I want to be a good reader like him someday. Not only is Tom brainy, but he's also really athletic. He is on the school soccer team and they have won a bunch of tournaments. Tom is an incredible soccer player. He can dribble the ball super fast, make tricky moves to get around defenders, and score amazing goals. At home, we often play soccer together in the backyard. Even though Tom goes easy on me, I can never score on him because he is such a talented goalie. I aspire to be as good a soccer player as he is. Tom is also a strong swimmer and a fast runner. I try my best to keep up with him but he is way more athletic than me.What impresses me most about Tom is how caring and helpful he is, despite being so smart and athletic. You'd think he might be arrogant or mean, but he's not at all. Tom is one of the nicest people I know. He never makes fun of me for not being as clever or sporty. Instead, he encourages me and builds up my confidence. Tom also helps out a lot around the house without our parents even asking. He clears the table after meals, takes out the trash, and does other chores. He even mows the lawn in summer! Tom is so responsible for his age. I really look up to him.Sometimes Tom's friends come over and they play video games together. I'm not allowed to join because I'm too youngand the games have violent content. But I sneak peeks sometimes when they aren't looking. They look like so much fun! Tom is really good at all the games and wins a lot. His friends respect him for being a pro gamer on top of everything else he's talented at. I can't wait until I'm old enough to play those games too.Every now and then, Tom gets fed up with me following him around and being a pesky little brother. He'll snap at me to leave him alone for once. I feel hurt when he does that because I idolize Tom so much. But then I remind myself that he's just being a normal teenager who needs his space sometimes. We may drive each other crazy at times, but I know Tom loves me a lot. After he's had a break from me, Tom is always nice again. We're pretty close overall.I hope I can be just like my awesome big brother when I'm older. Tom is so well-rounded - he excels at academics, athletics, chores, video games, you name it. Combined with his kind heart and caring nature, he is the total package. Tom definitely makes me proud to call him my brother. I am lucky to have such an amazing role model growing up. I have big shoes to fill, but I'll do my best to follow in Tom's footsteps. He has shown me how to be a good student, a hard worker, a team player, and anall-around great person. I will always admire my big brother Tom.篇4My Favorite ToyMy favorite toy is my teddy bear, Mr. Snuggles. I got him for my 5th birthday and he's been my best friend ever since! Mr. Snuggles is a big brown bear with a red bow tie. His fur is so soft and cuddly. I take him everywhere with me - to school, to my friend's houses, even to the grocery store with Mom and Dad.I love Mr. Snuggles because he always listens to me and never judges me. When I'm sad, he gives the best hugs. When I'm happy, he dances around with me. At night when I go to bed, Mr. Snuggles sleeps right next to me so I never feel alone or scared of the dark. In the morning, his fuzzy face is the first thing I see!Sometimes I tell Mr. Snuggles all my secrets, like how I have a crush on Tommy in my class or how I got in trouble for passing notes. He's such a good secret keeper! I also read him my favorite books and he never complains, even if I read the same story over and over again. Mr. Snuggles is just the best teddy bear a kid could ask for.My older brother Jimmy used to make fun of me for still playing with stuffed animals. He'd call me a baby. But I don't care what he says - you're never too old for a special toy like Mr. Snuggles! Even my friends think he's cool and they like to play teddy bear tea parties with us.One time, I accidentally left Mr. Snuggles at the park. I was so upset and I cried for hours. Mom and Dad went back to look for him as soon as they realized he was missing. Finally, right before the park closed, we found him stuck in a bush! I was overjoyed and gave him about a million bear hugs. From that day on, I've been extra careful to not lose Mr. Snuggles again.I'm going to keep my teddy bear forever and ever. Maybe I'll even give him to my own kids one day, when I'm all grown up. For now, Mr. Snuggles is stuck with me. I just love him beary much!My Best FriendMy best friend is Sarah. We've known each other since we were babies because our moms are best friends too! Sarah lives right down the street from me, so we get to see each other almost every single day.Sarah is the nicest, funniest, and awesomest person I know. We have SO much fun together! Our favorite things to do are have sleepovers, go to the park, take our American Girl dolls on adventures, and just goof around. Sarah always cracks me up with her silly jokes and voices. I can literally laugh for hours when I'm with her.One of the things I love most about Sarah is that she's not afraid to be herself. She wears whatever crazy outfits she wants, dances everywhere she goes, and sings at the top of her lungs - and she doesn't care if anyone thinks she's weird! I really admire how confident she is. Sarah helps me feel more comfortable being my true self too.We tell each other everything and share all our secrets. I know I can trust Sarah with anything, because she's loyal and honest. We've never had a serious fight, but if we do get in a silly argument sometimes, we always make up right away. I'm so lucky to have a bestie like her.Sarah is super smart too. She gets really good grades and is at the top of our class. But she never makes me feel dumb or looks down on me, even though math and spelling are hard for me. Instead, Sarah is patient and helps me understand things. We have study sessions together before big tests. We also both love arts and crafts! Sarah is such a talented artist. The pictures she draws are so realistic and detailed. I'm more into sculpting with clay and building things. We inspire each other's creativity all the time and work on projectsside-by-side.My favorite memories are all the adventures we've gone on together - like exploring the woods behind our houses, having lemonade stands, or putting on backyard camping shows for our families. There's never a dull moment when Sarah's around! She brings so much happiness, imagination, and fun to my life.I really can't imagine what I'd do without my BFF Sarah. Hopefully we'll be best friends forever, until we're old ladies someday. We've already promised each other that our kids will be best friends too, just like us! Sarah is truly the sister I never had.篇5My Wonderful FamilyHi there! My name is Emma and I'm 9 years old. Today I want to tell you all about my amazing family. We're not a huge family, but we sure are a lot of fun!First up is my mom and dad. My mom's name is Sarah and she's the most caring and loving person I know. She works really hard as a nurse at the hospital to take care of sick people. Even though her job is tough, she always comes home with a smile on her face, ready to give me and my little brother big hugs. My dad's name is John and he's hilarious! He works at a bank but he always cracks silly jokes to make us laugh at dinner time. Mom pretends they aren't funny but I can see her trying not to giggle. I love my mom and dad so much. Then there's my little brother Tommy. He's 6 years old and a total goofball! Tommy loves playing pranks and making weird sound effects. Sometimes he drives me a little crazy but he's also my best friend. We have a great time playing together in the backyard, climbing trees and kicking a soccer ball around. Tommy adores our dog Rufus too. Rufus is a big friendly golden retriever who is always so happy to see us when we get home from school. Having a dog is the best!My grandparents live just down the street which is awesome. Grandma and Grandpa's house always smells like fresh baked cookies or apple pie. They have a beautiful flower garden that I help take care of in the summer. Grandpa tells me corny jokes and lets me work on little projects in his workshop. Grandmagives the most amazing hugs and braids my hair. They are such sweet, loving grandparents.Aunt Jenna is my mom's sister and she's really cool. She lives in California which is far away but comes to visit us a few times a year. Aunt Jenna is an artist and always brings me fun art supplies to use. Last time she visited, she showed me how to make little clay animal figurines. We got pretty messy but it was a blast! I can't wait for her next visit. My cousins Jack and Lily live in the next town over with Uncle Mike and Aunt Claire. Jack is 12 and Lily is 10 so they are a little older than me. Jack plays on a baseball team and is really good at pitching. Lily is obsessed with horses and takes riding lessons every week. When they come over, the five of us kids have a ton of fun together building forts, playing video games, and coming up with funny skits to perform for our parents. We call ourselves the "Cousin Crew" and have a special handshake and everything! Those two are like the cool older siblings I never had. There are so many more aunts, uncles, and cousins too, but I don't want this essay to be a million pages long! We get together for big holiday celebrations like Christmas and Thanksgiving. Those are my favorite times because the whole family is there. We play games, eat delicious food, and catch up on each other'slives. Even though we're a little crazy, it's obvious to me that we all care about each other a whole lot.Sometimes people ask me if I'd want a bigger family or if I get jealous of kids with more siblings. I always tell them, "No way!" I wouldn't trade my family for anything in the world. Sure, we're not perfect and we definitely have our silly arguments sometimes. But at the end of the day, I know I'm so lucky to be surrounded by so many people who love me. We make amazing memories together and no matter what, we'll always be there for each other through thick and thin. From silly Tommy to sweet Grandma and Grandpa to my caring parents, I've got my very own cheering section. So that's my wonderful, wacky, loving family! We might be a little nuts but that's what makes us special. I'm proud to be a part of the Smith family and I can't wait to see what crazy adventures we'll go on together next. I've got the best family in the world!篇6My Summer HolidayYay, the summer holiday is finally here! No more waking up super early, no more boring classes, no more homework. Just two whole months of freedom and fun! This summer, my family went on an amazing trip to the countryside. We stayed at my grandparents' house in a tiny little village. It was so different from the big city we live in. The air was fresh and clean, and you could see a billion stars at night.Grandma and Grandpa's house was really old but pretty cool. It had a thatched roof and the walls were made of stone. Inside, there were wood floors and low ceilings with big wooden beams. The furniture was all antique too. My favorite was the big squashy armchair by the fireplace where I liked to read.Outside, there was a huge garden with all sorts of vegetables and fruit trees. I helped Grandpa pick strawberries, raspberries, tomatoes, and potatoes. We even had our own little chicken coop with five hens that gave us fresh eggs every morning for breakfast. Grandma made the yummiest scrambled eggs with cream from their cow!One of the best things was that there were no cars, just little country lanes to walk or cycle along. Me and my brother spent hours exploring the countryside, climbing over stiles, tramping through fields, and paddling in streams. Once we got chased by a mad bull though - that was scary! We saw loads of wildlife too like rabbits, squirrels, deer, foxes and birds of every kind.In the evenings, we would come back tired and hungry. Grandma's cooking was amazing - fresh veggie stew,home-baked bread, treacle tart and lots more delicioushome-cooked meals. After dinner, we'd sit out in the garden playing board games and watching the sunset. When it got dark, Grandad would light a fire in the old stone firepit and we'd toast marshmallows and sing silly campfire songs. Some days we went on trips to nearby attractions like a farm park, a castle ruin, and a steam railway museum. My favorite was the castle because you could dress up as a knight and have a go with a sword and bow and arrows. At the farm park, we got to feed and pet all the animals like goats, pigs, sheep, and ponies.Going on the steam train was brilliant fun too. We went for a long chuggy ride through the countryside in an old-fashioned coal train. I loved watching the steam engine huffing and puffing. Afterwards we looked around the museum with all the vintage engines, signals and other railway stuff.Another day, Grandad took us hiking up a big hill. It was quite a tough climb but the view from the top was breathtaking - we could see for miles over green fields, forests and little villages. We had a picnic up there and played flying kites and other games. Coming back down was much quicker...Grandad showedus how to roll down the really steep slopes. So fun but I got grass stains all over!Too soon, the holiday was over and it was time to go back home. I was really sad to leave but made Grandma and Grandpa promise we could come again soon. The country life was the best - fresh air, home cooking, outdoor adventures and lots of quality family time. No computers, phones or TV for once, justold-fashioned fun. I'll never forget that magical summer!。

He had often dreamed of retiring in England and …, 能够推测只有b. Spending his old age in England
My old friend, Harrison, had lived in the Mediterranean for many years before he returned to England,能够判断出只有c. He had spent so long in the Mediterranean, he had forgotten what it was like
a. It never stopped raining 与课文实际情况不太符合,课文说总是下雨,并不是“永远不停地下”;b. it was always cold 虽然与课文的内容相符,但不是他为什么不能忍受英国天气的原因。
d. he had never lived in England before 与事实不符,更不是原因。
a. as though 和d. even if 都能够引导虚拟语气的从句,但是d. even if(即使)不合乎逻辑,a. as though( 好像)合乎题目意思,所以选a. He acted as though he hadnever lived in England before 而b. like 和 c. as 都不能引导虚拟句。

He had often dreamed of retiring in England and …, 能够推测只有b. Spending his old age in England
My old friend, Harrison, had lived in the Mediterranean for many years before he returned to England,能够判断出只有c. He had spent so long in the Mediterranean, he had forgotten what it was like
a. It never stopped raining 与课文实际情况不太符合,课文说总是下雨,并不是“永远不停地下”;b. it was always cold 虽然与课文的内容相符,但不是他为什么不能忍受英国天气的原因。
d. he had never lived in England before 与事实不符,更不是原因。
a. as though 和d. even if 都能够引导虚拟语气的从句,但是d. even if(即使)不合乎逻辑,a. as though( 好像)合乎题目意思,所以选a. He acted as though he hadnever lived in England before 而b. like 和 c. as 都不能引导虚拟句。

Lesson 38
Lesson 38Everything except the weather
★except prep.

Why did Harrison sell his house so quickly? My old friend, Harrison, had lived in the Mediterranean for many years before he returned to England. He had often dreamed of retiring in England and had planned to settle down in the country. He had no sooner returned than he bought a house and went to live there. Almost immediately he began to complain about the weather, for even though it was still summer, it rained continually and it was often bitterly cold. After so many years of sunshine, Harrison got a shock. He acted as if he had never lived in England before. In the end, it was more than he could bear. He had hardly had time to settle down when he sold the house and left the country. The dream he had had for so many years ended there. Harrison had thought of everything except the weather.
