The 4th Wife –Anne of Cleves
Henry desired to marry once again to ensure the succession. A painter was sent to Cleves to paint a portrait of Anne for the king. It has been said that he painted her in a more flattering light.

After seeing the portrait, and urged by the complimentary description of Anne given by his courtiers, Henry agreed to wed Anne. However on Anne's arrival in England, Henry is said to have found her utterly unattractive, privately calling her a "Flanders Mare".

The 5th – Catherine Howard
Henry married the beautiful young Catherine Howard. He was absolutely delighted with his new queen. Soon after her marriage, however, Queen Catherine (was silly enough to have) had an affair. Two men were accused of having sexual relationships with the queen. Catherine was executed on 13 February 1542. She was aged between 17 and 22 when she died

The Third Wife - Jane Seymour



She was one of Queen Anne ladies-in-waiting One day after Anne's execution Henry became engaged to Jane Seymour. They were married 10 days later. Jane gave birth to a son, Prince Edward finally giving King Henry the son he wanted. The birth was difficult and the queen died at from an infection.

Second Marriage - Anne Boleyn

Eventually, Queen Catherine was banished from court and her old rooms were given to Anne. Anne had promised Henry a son (a silly thing to do). She soon became pregnant. The queen gave birth to a girl who was named Elizabeth – who would go on to become one of the most famous leaders in English history.

Henrys oldest brother Arthur died suddenly. Henry’s Father, renewed his efforts to seal an alliance between England and Spain, by offering Henry, in marriage to Prince Arthur's widow, Catherine of Aragon All of Catherine's children died except Princess Mary. Henry became impatient, for he need a male heir.

Five men, including Anne's own brother, were arrested on charges of incest and treason. They were accused of having sexual relationships with the queen. Anne was taken to the Tower of London. She was accused of adultery, incest and high treason. All of the accused including the queen were executed. She was executed by beheading.
Anne refused to play the submissive role expected of her. Henry disliked Anne’s constant irritability and violent temper. Anne fell pregnant again. she miscarried a male child that was about 15 weeks old. As Anne recovered from what would be her final miscarriage, Henry declared that his marriage had been the product of witchcraft.

Henry married his last wife, Catherine Parr. She helped reconcile Henry with his first two daughters, the Princess Mary and the Lady Elizabeth. She was a reformer, but Henry remained a conservative. This behavior nearly proved her undoing, but she saved herself by a show of submissiveness.


Henry wished to annul the marriage in order to marry another

Queen Anne was intelligent enough not to impede Henry's quest for an annulment.
The marriage was subsequently annulled and Anne received the title of "The King's Sister"
