Unit One:

The Power of Perseverance: Overcoming Challenges in the Journey of LifeIn the fast-paced and often unpredictable world we live in, perseverance has become a critical component of success. It is the invisible force that propels us forward, enabling us to overcome obstacles and achieve our goals, regardlessof the challenges we face. This essay explores the essenceof perseverance, its significance in various aspects oflife, and the strategies we can adopt to cultivate this valuable trait.Perseverance can be defined as the steadfastness in doing something despite difficulty or delay in achieving success. It is the ability to maintain one's effortsdespite setbacks, failures, or discouragement. This quality is often honed through experiences that test our resilience and determination. Whether it's a student persevering through challenging exams, an athlete training for a marathon, or an entrepreneur starting a new business, perseverance is the common denominator that separates the successful from the unsuccessful. In the academic world, perseverance is essential for achieving academic excellence. Students who persevere through challenging courses and exams often find themselves at the top of their class. They understand that success does not come easily and are willing to put in the necessary hours of study and practice to achieve their goals. Moreover, perseverance helps students develop a growth mindset, where they view failures as opportunities for learning and growth, rather than setbacks. In the professional sphere, perseverance is equally important. Careers often involve long hours, complex tasks, and setbacks that can be demoralizing. However, it is those who persevere through these challenges who are able to rise to the top. They understand that success is not instantaneous and requires years of hard work, dedication, and learning from failures.Perseverance is also crucial in personal life. It is the driving force behind achieving fitness goals, learning new skills, or overcoming personal challenges. Whether it's someone who perseveres through a rigorous fitness routine to achieve a healthier lifestyle or someone who perseveresthrough therapy to overcome a mental health issue, these individuals demonstrate the power of perseverance in their lives.Cultivating perseverance requires a conscious effort. Here are some strategies that can help us develop this valuable trait:1. **Set Clear Goals**: Having a clear and specific goal gives us a sense of direction and momentum. It helps us stay focused and motivated, even when faced with challenges.2. **Develop a Growth Mindset**: As mentioned earlier, a growth mindset allows us to view failures as opportunities for learning and growth. This mindset encourages us to persevere through challenges and view them as stepping stones to success.3. **Break Down Goals into Small Steps**: Sometimes, the thought of achieving a large goal can be overwhelming. Breaking it down into smaller, manageable steps can help us stay motivated and persevere through the process.4. **Seek Support**: Having a support system of friends, family, or mentors can provide the encouragement and motivation we need to persevere through tough times.5. **Practice Patience and Consistency**:Perseverance is a marathon, not a sprint. It requires patience and consistency in our efforts. By staying consistent with our goals and efforts, we can gradually build momentum and achieve our desired results. In conclusion, perseverance is a critical component of success in all aspects of life. It is the driving force behind achieving academic excellence, professional success, and personal growth. By cultivating this valuable trait through clear goals, a growth mindset, seeking support, and practicing patience and consistency, we can overcome any challenge and achieve our dreams. Let us embrace the power of perseverance and use it to shape a brighter future for ourselves and those we care about.。

Title: The Evolution of Learning in the DigitalAgeIn the modern era, the landscape of education has undergone profound transformations, thanks to the advent of digital technology. The traditional classroom setting, where students passively listened to lectures, has given way to a more interactive and dynamic learning environment. This shift towards digital learning not only enhances the student experience but also prepares them for the challenges of the future workforce.Firstly, digital learning provides access to a vast repository of knowledge. The internet is a boundless ocean of information, and with the help of digital tools, students can explore topics beyond the confines of their textbooks. This expanded knowledge base allows them to delve deeper into subjects, fostering a culture ofcuriosity and exploration.Secondly, digital learning is highly interactive. With the use of online platforms and multimedia content, students can engage with their learning materials in a more engaging way. This interactivity not only makes learningmore fun but also helps in retention of information. For instance, interactive quizzes and games can help students revise their lessons in a more effective manner. Moreover, digital learning fosters collaboration and teamwork. Online platforms allow students to work togetherin real-time, sharing ideas and collaborating on projects. This collaborative learning experience prepares them forthe collaborative work environment they will encounter in their professional lives. However, while the benefits of digital learning are numerous, it is important to strike a balance. The human touch and personal connection provided by teachers cannotbe replaced by technology. Teachers play a crucial role in guiding students, motivating them, and addressing their individual needs. Therefore, a blended learning approach, where digital tools are used to enhance traditionalteaching methods, is perhaps the most effective way forward. In conclusion, the evolution of learning in the digital age has opened up new horizons for education. By harnessing the power of technology, we can create a more engaging, interactive, and collaborative learning environment thatprepares students for the challenges of the future. However, we must also remember that technology is merely a tool, and it is the human element that truly makes education shine.**数字化时代的学习演变**在现代社会,随着数字技术的出现,教育景观已经发生了深刻的变化。

In this article, I will share my thoughts and experiences about the first unit of the textbook and discuss how it has improved my writing abilities. The first unit of the College English series focuses on basic writing skills. It starts with an introduction to the importance of writing and the various types of essays we will encounter throughout our academic career. We are then guided through the process of writing, starting from understanding the topic to organizing our thoughts and finally presenting our ideas coherently. One of the most valuable lessons I learned from this unit is the significance of pre-writing activities. Before starting to write, it is crucial to brainstorm ideas and create an outline. This not only helps in organizing our thoughts but also ensures that we have a clear direction for our essay. The textbook provides various techniques for brainstorming, such as mind mapping and listing, which I found extremely useful. These activities allow me to explore different perspectives and gather enough material to support my arguments effectively.Another aspect that greatly improved my writing was learning about the structure of different essay types. The textbook includes numerous vocabulary exercises and provides a list of commonly used phrases and expressions. These resources have not only expanded my vocabulary but also helped me to effectively convey my thoughts in a more sophisticated manner. Additionally, the unit provides guidance on improving sentence structure, including using different sentence types and avoiding common grammatical errors. Applying these techniques has made my writing more concise and coherent. In addition to the theoretical aspects of writing, the textbook also includes practical exercises and assignments. These tasks allow us to apply the knowledge and skills learned in the unit and receive feedback from our instructors. The exercises are carefully designed to address specific writing challenges, such as developing a thesis statement or generating supporting evidence. 英语第1单元作文范文As the first unit of the English course unfolded, it marked the beginning of a transformative journey for me.The theme of the unit, "Change," resonated deeply with me, highlighting the dynamic nature of life and the constantflux of experiences that shape us. The unit invited us to explore the various facets of change, from its impact on individuals and communities to the broader perspectives of societal transformations. In the early stages of the unit, we delved into the emotional aspects of change. Reading passages about people coping with diverse changes, such as relocation, career shifts, and personal growth, provided insights into the emotional rollercoaster that accompanies such transitions. We discussed how change can be both exciting and terrifying, offering opportunities for growth while also presenting challenges. As the unit progressed, the focus shifted to thesocietal implications of change. We explored how technological advancements, globalization, and cultural shifts have transformed the world we live in. Discussionsabout the environmental impact of these changes and the need for sustainable practices became central to our deliberations. This broader perspective helped us understand that change is not just a personal phenomenon but a collective one, affecting us all.The unit culminated in a project where we were asked to reflect on a personal experience of change and its impact on our lives. I chose to write about my experience of moving to a new city for college. It is a continuous process of adaptation and evolution, pushing us to grow and develop in new and unexpected ways. Embracing change, rather than resisting it, can lead to new opportunities and deeper understandings of ourselves and the world around us.**拥抱英语课堂上的变化——探索与成长的旅程**随着英语课程第一单元的开始,我的一段变革之旅也由此开启。

大学进阶英语综合教程2unit1作文范文

大学进阶英语综合教程2unit1作文范文全文共6篇示例,供读者参考篇1My Summer Vacation AdventureYay, summer vacation was finally here! No more classes, homework, or waking up super early. I was so excited to have fun and go on adventures. The first week, my family went camping in the mountains. We pitched our tent near a pretty stream with lots of trees around. In the morning, I woke up to the sound of birds chirping and squirrels scampering on the ground. My baby sister was still snoozing, making little baby noises."Rise and shine, sleepyheads!" Dad called out in a silly voice. We had pancakes for breakfast, which Mom cooked over the campfire. They were a little burnt on the bottom but still tasted yummy, especially with the maple syrup drizzled on top. After we cleaned up, Dad said, "Who wants to go on a nature hike?" I jumped up and down, waving my hand. Mom smiled and packed our backpack with bottles of water, trail mix, andjuiceboxes. The trail was a little rocky at first, but then it smoothed out. We stopped to examine cool plants, butterflies, and even saw a deer peeking out from behind a tree! When we reached the top of the trail, there was an amazing view of the whole valley below. The sky was bright blue without a single cloud. "Wow, isn't this beautiful?" gasped Mom, staring at the gorgeous scenery. We sat down on a big rock to drink water and nibble our snacks. I felt so happy spending quality time together as a family. On the way back to our campsite, I saw a little grey bunny crouched under a bush. I couldn't resist trying to catch it so I could pet its cute floppy ears. But the bunny was too fast and hopped away before I could get close. "Aw, man!" I groaned. Dad just chuckled and ruffled my hair. That night by the campfire, we roasted marshmallows and sang silly songs. I got marshmallow goo all over my face, which made my little sister crack up in her adorable baby laugh. Eventually we got sleepy, so we snuggled up in our warm sleeping bags under the twinkling stars. I had so much fun on our camping adventure! The next week, we went to visit my cousins who live on a farm. As soon as we got there, they showed me around to see allthe animals. There were cows, horses, pigs, chickens, and even a couple of goats! My cousin Jack let me feed the goats pieces of carrot from my hand. Their tongues felt so funny and scratchy!Later, Jack and I went exploring around the farm. We climbed over fences, wandered through fields, and found a cute little pond with tadpoles and frogs swimming around. Jack showed me how to catch the frogs by being very quiet and still, then quickly scooping them up with a net. We caught two fat frogs and put them in a bucket so we could look at them up close. Their big bulgy eyes looked pretty silly. For dinner, we had a huge feast of food that came straight from the farm. There was a whole roasted chicken, creamy mashed potatoes, gravy, buttery corn on the cob, biscuits, and more. My favorite was the homemade strawberry shortcake smothered in fresh whipped cream. I stuffed myself so full, I thought my stomach would pop! After dinner, the grown-ups sat on the porch while us kids played hide-and-seek and ran around catching fireflies as it got darker. Finally, we flopped down on the soft grass, out of breath and giggling. We gazed up at the infinite amount of bright stars twinkling in the night sky. Jack pointed out constellations he knew, like the Big Dipper, Orion's Belt, and the North Star. Layingthere looking up at the beautiful stars with my cousin made me feel happy and peaceful inside.Too soon, our summer vacation was over. I felt sad that our fun adventures had come to an end. But I made so many amazing memories that I'll never forget. Playing outside, seeing cool nature stuff, getting dirty, and spending quality time with my loved ones was the best! Now it's time to head back to school, but I can't wait for next summer's adventures.篇2My Big Bro Goes to College!Wow, you guys! I'm so excited to tell you about my big brother going to college. His name is Jake and he's 18 years old. He just graduated from our high school and now he's getting ready to start his first year at a university. It's a really big deal!College is like the biggest school ever. Jake told me that the campus has tons of huge buildings all spread out, kind of like a little city. There are buildings just for students to live in called dorms. Can you believe it? Dorms are like apartment buildings, but only for college kids. Jake is going to have his own little room called a dorm room. He'll have a roommate too, which is someone he'll share the room with. I hope his roommate is nice!At college, you don't have the same classes all day like we do in elementary school. Jake gets to pick all his own classes based on what he wants to study and learn about. He's really into science, so a lot of his classes are about biology, chemistry, and physics. But he also has to take some gen-ed classes, which are kind of like the basics that all students need to learn no matter what they major in.A major is what Jake will specialize in and get his degree for when he finishes college in four years. Jake's major is going to be biochemistry, which is like a mix of biology and chemistry. It sounds so complicated! I don't know how he's going to learn all that stuff. After college, Jake wants to go to graduate school to become a scientific researcher and professor. How cool would that be to literally be a mad scientist?!But college isn't just about classes. Jake told me there are tons of clubs, sports teams, and other activities he can join to make friends and get involved on campus. He already signed up for the rock climbing club because he loves outdoor adventuring.I think he should join the chess club too since he's such a genius brain! Maybe he'll even meet a nice girl to date. My mom really wants grandkids one day, but Jake said he's going to be married to his studies for a while.I'm really going to miss Jake when he leaves for college next month. We've shared a room our whole lives, so it will be weird with him being gone. But I'm also really proud and excited for this huge new journey he's about to start. College is a big milestone that kicks off your adult life and career. It will be hard, but I know Jake can handle it because he's basically the smartest person I know.If I get into a good college when I'm older, maybe Jake can give me all kinds of cool insider tips and tricks! For now though, I'm just an 8-year-old kid. I've still got a long ways to go before I have to start worrying about stuff like majors, dorms, and gen-ed requirements. I'll be happy sticking with Mrs. Thompson's 3rd grade class for a little while longer! There's my big long essay all about my big bro going to college. Between you and me, I may have exaggerated some parts to make it sound more exciting. But college does seem like a whole new thrilling world that I can't wait to experience for myself someday. I just need to keep studying hard so I can follow in Jake's footsteps! Wish me luck!篇3My Super Awesome Summer Vacation!Wow, summer vacation was so much fun! I had the best time ever. First, my family went on an amazing trip to the Grand Canyon. That's a huge canyon in Arizona that was carved by a river a really really long time ago. We drove there in our minivan and it took forever! But it was worth it when we finally got to see the Grand Canyon. It's like this massive hole in the ground, but it's beautiful with all the different colored rocks and layers. We went on a little hike along the rim and our guide told us all about how it was formed over millions of years by the Colorado River. Can you believe a river did all that? It's insane! The canyon is over a mile deep in some parts. I couldn't even see the bottom! After the Grand Canyon, we drove to Las Vegas. I thought that was going to be boring since it's just a city in the desert. Boy was I wrong! Las Vegas was incredible with bright lights everywhere and huge hotels that looked like castles and pyramids. The pool at our hotel was amazing - it had a waterslide, a lazy river, and even a sand beach! We also went to some of the amazing shows they have there like the circus one with crazy acrobats. My favorite part though was walking along the Las Vegas Strip at night and seeing all the bright lights, shows, andattractions. Everything is so over-the-top there. Like, who decides to build a huge hotel that looks like the Empire State Building or the Eiffel Tower? Only in Vegas I guess! I got to ride the roller coaster that goes around the outside of one of the hotels and it was a total adrenaline rush. We also saw the fancy fountain show at the Bellagio hotel that was choreographed to music and lights. It was so cool! After Vegas, we met up with my cousins in California and went to Disneyland. I've been dreaming about Disneyland since I was little, and it totally lived up to the hype. We spent three days there and still didn't get to do everything. I loved going on rides like Space Mountain, Splash Mountain, and the Haunted Mansion. The new Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge area was my favorite though. I felt like I was actually on a different planet! We did a ton of other fun stuff in California too. We went to the beach and I learned how to boogie board. We saw the Walk of Fame in Hollywood and I put my handprints next to some famous actors. And we went to Universal Studios and got to go through the Wizarding World of Harry Potter. I even got to drink some delicious butter beer!Overall it was just the best summer ever. I got to see and do so many incredible things. I can't wait to go on more adventures, but I'm also really excited to start 5th grade next week and see all my friends again. I'll have some awesome stories to tell them about my summer vacation! Maybe my story will help inspire some of them to go on a fun family trip next summer too. Traveling to new places and experiencing different things is the best way to spend summer break in my opinion!篇4My Big Adventure Learning EnglishHey there! My name is Tommy and I'm 10 years old. I just started learning English this year in school and it's been a really big adventure so far! Ms. Johnson is my English teacher and she's really nice. At first, English seemed super hard and confusing. Like why do they have so many weird rules for when to use "a" or "an"? And remembering if words are "he", "she" or "it" gave me a headache. But Ms. Johnson is a really good teacher and makes it fun.One of the first things we learned was the English alphabet. I already knew my ABCs from watching Sesame Street, but I didn't know there were actually letters besides the capital ones! The small letters looked like miniature versions. Isn't that crazy? We practiced writing all the big and small letters over and over again.I have messy handwriting so it took me a while to get them looking nice. Then we started learning words and how to put them together into sentences. Some words were really easy like "cat", "dog", and "Mom". But others were super weird with a bunch of consonants all smushed together. How do you even say "through"?? We played lots of fun games in class to practice though. My favorite is when we throw a ball across the circle and whoever catches it has to say an English word. Whoever messes up or can't think of one is out!Pretty soon we moved on to bigger stuff like present tense verbs and basic sentence structures. I felt like a little construction worker using "is", "are" and other bricks to build sentences. "The boy is running." "The girls are playing." Stuff like that. We even learned about word families which helped me expand my vocabulary really quickly. Like if I knew "jump", I could just add "-ed", "-ing" or "-s" to make new words. Jumping, jumps, jumped - easy peasy! What's been really cool is learning about other cultures and traditions from English-speaking countries. For holidays like Christmas and Halloween, we got to experience some of their customs. We made ornaments, carved pumpkins, and Ms.Johnson taught us classic songs and nursery rhymes. It was like getting a sneak peek into their world! I loved singing "Jingle Bells" and "Twinkle Twinkle Little Star."Just when I thought it couldn't get any better, we started reading simple storybooks during our library time. My favorite so far has been "Green Eggs and Ham" by Dr. Seuss. The rhymes and silly phrases had me cracking up. I also liked "The Cat in the Hat" a lot too. Now every week, I get to take a new book home and explore different adventures and faraway lands through reading! It's like being a little explorer.Overall, learning English this year has been a total blast. Sure, there's still a lot of weird grammar rules and tricky spellings to figure out. But I'm having a great time with all the games, stories and cultural activities. I feel like a little sponge just soaking it all up day by day. Who knows, maybe I'll be a fluent English speaker before I'm a teenager! Keep your fingers crossed for me. This is just the start of my amazing English journey.Fullspeed ahead!篇5My Big English Lesson BookHi friends! I'm going to tell you all about my big English lesson book that I'm using to get really good at English. It's aspecial book for older students who already know English pretty well but want to get even better. The first unit was all about writing essays and stories. The teacher said essays are like giving your opinion about something in a very organized way. Stories are made up adventures that have characters and a plot and stuff. I like stories better because you can use your imagination more. But essays are important too if you want to clearly explain your thoughts. For the essay part, we had to write a whole paper about an "environmental issue" that's impacting the world. I picked writing about plastic pollution in the oceans. My essay had an introduction paragraph that got the reader interested in the topic. Then I had three body paragraphs that each talked about a different point. The first body paragraph was about how there's too much plastic trash being thrown away instead of recycled. Apparently something like 90% of all plastic hasn't been recycled! All that waste has to go somewhere and a bunch ends up in lakes, rivers, and oceans. My second body paragraph talked about how the plastic in oceans is really hurting animals that live in the water. They can get tangled up in plastic rings from six packs or accidentally eatplastic bags thinking they're jellyfish. Their tummies get all messed up and they can starve. It's just really sad. Then for my third and last body paragraph, I wrote about some possible solutions to the plastic pollution problem. I said people should use less plastic in general, like with reusable water bottles and grocery bags. And for plastic we do use, it's important to always recycle it properly instead of just throwing it in the trash. After my three main points, I had to write a conclusion paragraph that summarized everything and re-stated my opinion one last time. The teacher said having a well-organized structure with an intro, body, and conclusion is super key for a good essay. For the story part of the assignment, we could write basically any kind of fiction story we wanted as long as it was around 500 words. I decided to write an adventure about a group of young environmentalists who go on a quest to clean up their local beach. My main character was Zoe, who was visiting her grandparents for the summer in a beach town. The first day she went to the beach, she was really upset to see so much plastic trash everywhere. There were bottles, straws, grocery bags, andmore just all over the place! It looked terrible and Zoe knew it was dangerous for fish and turtles and birds. So Zoe made some friends with other kids who cared about the environment too. Together they made a plan to organize a huge beach cleanup day. They made flyers and put them up all over town asking people to volunteer. They collected lots of big trash bags and even baked sale to raise money for supplies like gloves and trash pickers. On the big day, a whole huge group of people came out to pitch in! Zoe's team worked super hard and spent all day removing every last piece of plastic from that beach. By the end they had gathered like 20 big bags totally overflowing with trash. Everyone cheered when it was finally all cleaned up thanks to their hard work and determination. The last part wrapped up with Zoe feeling really proud and happy about the difference her team had made for their community and the environment. She couldn't wait to keep finding more ways to reduce plastic pollution. The end!So that's what I wrote for the first unit of my big English practice book. Writing stories is fun but essays are also important for clearly communicating ideas. I'll keep studying this book to get my English skills as sharp as can be. Writing and reading a lotin English is the best way for me to get totally fluent. Then one day I can write amazing essays and thrilling stories for real!篇6Title: My Super Awesome Big English BookHi there! My name is Tommy and I'm 8 years old. I just started learning from this really cool big English book called "Advanced English Comprehensive Course 2". It's huge and has like a million pages! But don't worry, it's really fun and not boring at all.The first unit is all about writing essays. Can you believe little kids like me have to learn how to write essays? It's kind of crazy! But my teacher said it will help make me a better writer and speaker of English. She said essays are like super long sentences that explain your thoughts and ideas about a topic. So for our first essay assignment, we had to write about our favorite toy. I picked my giant teddy bear Mr. Snuggles! He's been my best friend since I was a tiny baby. Mr. Snuggles is so soft and cuddly. Whenever I'm sad or scared, I just squeeze him tight and he makes me feel all better. He's gotten a little ripped up from all the hugging over the years, but I don't care. I love him just the way he is!My essay started by introducing Mr. Snuggles and explaining why he's my favorite toy. I talked about how long I've had him and all the fun adventures we've gone on together. Like that time we got locked in the bathroom for 2 hours! Or when we jumped into the biggest puddle ever after the rainy day. Those were such silly times! Then in the next part, I described what Mr. Snuggles looks like. I said he's really big and brown and has a red heart sewn onto his chest. His fur is super fuzzy and he's got cute black button eyes and a sweet little stitched smile. Even though he's pretty old, he still looks and smells just like when I was little. After that, I wrote about all the reasons why I love Mr. Snuggles so much. Obviously because he's soft and cuddly, but also because he's my most trusty buddy. I tell him all my secrets and he's always there to listen, without judging. He's stuck with me through good times and bad. I'm really lucky to have such a great friend! For the conclusion, I talked about how even when I'm a grown-up, I'll never get rid of Mr. Snuggles. He means too much to me. I'll keep him forever and ever and maybe even pass him down to my own kids one day, so they can snuggle him too! Mr. Snuggles will always have a special place on my bedside. And that's my fantastic essay all about my favorite toy! See, writing essays isn't that hard when you write about something you really love. My teacher gave me a gold star and said she was super impressed with my description and reasons. I felt so proud!I'm excited to keep working through this English book and learning more essay tricks. Who knows, maybe I'll be an author when I grow up and write books myself! But for now, I'm taking it one essay at a time. Baby steps!Phew, that was a long one, huh? I'm getting hungry after all that writing. Time for a snack break! Thanks for reading my essay, friends. Catch ya later!。

Deaf DJBy Robbie Wilde as told to Kenneth Miller1 I was born in England with perfect hearing. In 1990, when I was five, my family moved to the United States. I started getting ear infections every three months or so. We didn’t have health insurance at the time and when I got a third infection, my parents couldn’t pay for the treatment.I went deaf in my right ear and was left with 50 percent hearing in my left. Over time, my remaining hearing dropped to 20 percent, where it is today. My doctors predicted that I would be completely deaf by now, so I think I’m doing pretty well.2 There was always music on in my house when I was little. I loved listening to Metallica, Led Zeppelin, Bob Marley, Michael Jackson. My dad was a DJ, so he played disco, folk, dance, rock, and music from other countries. For my 18th birthday, my dad asked me to deejay at the restaurant he owned. After doing that for a few weeks, I was hooked. I wanted to learn more.3 I e-mailed DJ Shiftee, a well-known New York City DJ, when I was 25: “I know you like a challenge. How about teaching a deaf person to deejay?” He wrote back the next day: “Challenge accepted.” He tutored me twice a week for two years, helping me develop correct technique. I practiced four hours a day. Now when I’m performing, muscle memory takes over.4 When I started deejaying at clubs, I wouldn’t tell the managers I was deaf. I would just show up, introduce myself, and start playing music. At the end of the night, someone would say, “Oh, here’s the check.” And I’d say, “What? Oh, I can’t hear.” They were always so surprised. Sometimes I would bring doctor’s notes because they wouldn’t believe me. It was reassurance that they were giving me jobs because I was good, not out of sympathy. Eventually people started calling me “that Deaf DJ,” and the name stuck.5 For a show, I set up one speaker facing my left side, my good ear, and make it louder all the way up. The speakers that play the bass are on the floor behind me so I can hear some of the lower frequencies and feel the beat in my feet. And I can feel the energy of the song and the crowdgoes crazy, you feel that. The song comes to life.6 I use software that turns the music into lines of color on a computer screen. Red is the bass, blue is snare, green is the vocals or melody. I’m visually hearing the music. What I love about deejaying is the creativity, what you can do with a machine, two turntables, and a mixer.7 The next time you go dancing cover your ears, and you’ll feel a little bit of how I do it. You’ll start using your other senses. You’ll start seeing that you’re able to hear the music in a different way. Music is not all about hearing.8 I play all sorts of get-togethers now, from college parties to corporate events. I also go to elementary schools for the deaf and talk to the students about motivation and believing in themselves. I’m big on talking to the parents. I tell them, “My advice to you is to let [your kids] chase their dreams. I’m a deaf DJ, so why not?”耳聋的打碟师罗比·王尔德口述,肯尼斯·米勒整理1 我生于英格兰,刚出生时我的听力一切正常。

Title: Embracing Change: A Journey ofGrowth and DiscoveryIn the fast-paced world of today, change is inevitable. It is a constant force that shapes our lives, pushing us to adapt and evolve. The unit one of the New Edition of College English Integrated Coursebook, which focuses on the theme of change, resonates deeply with this idea. It encourages us to embrace change, to see it as an opportunity for growth and discovery, rather than a threat to our stability.Change can be both exciting and daunting. It brings new experiences, new challenges, and often, new opportunities. However, it also requires us to let go of the familiar, to step into the unknown. This can be difficult, as it involves a leap of faith and a willingness to take risks. Yet, it is this willingness to embrace change that defines our growth as individuals. As we navigate through the twists and turns of life, we learn to be resilient, to adapt to new situations, and to find strength within ourselves. We discover that change is not something to be feared, but rather, something to be celebrated. The unit one of the textbook explores this idea through a variety of texts and activities. It introduces us to characters who have faced significant changes in theirlives and have emerged stronger and wiser. Their stories inspire us to view change as a positive force that can transform our lives. Moreover, the unit encourages us to reflect on our own experiences of change. It prompts us to consider how we have responded to changes in our lives, whether we have embraced them or resisted them, and what we have learned from these experiences. This reflection is crucial in helping us understand our own growth and development. In conclusion, the unit one of the New Edition of College English Integrated Coursebook is a powerful reminder of the importance of embracing change. It teaches us that change is not only inevitable but also essentialfor our growth and discovery. As we continue to navigate through the changing landscapes of our lives, let us remember to embrace each new challenge, to learn from each new experience, and to find strength and wisdom in the process.**拥抱变化:成长与发现的旅程**在当今快节奏的世界中,变化是不可避免的。

20XX年复习资料大学复习资料专业:班级:科目老师:日期:Unit 1A Memorable ExperienceOn the morning of the college entrance test I rode a bike to the school where I would take the examination.Less than halfway between my house and the school, disaster struck. My bike hit a nail and the front tyre went flat. I pushed the bike along the streets, looking for a repair shop. Minutes passed but still there was no one to be found. When I looked at my watch, I went wild with worry: there were only fifteen minutes left before the examination began, and the nearest bus stop was a long way off. Not knowing what to do, I stood still by the side of the road, tears welling up in my eyes. Then a car pulled in and I heard a voice asking what the matter was. When he heard my story, the driver offered me a lift. Thanks to his kindness, I arrived just in time. And so here I am today. How grateful I am to that warm-hearted stranger for his timely help. An easy hand one offers can really become a god’s gift for the other in trouble.Welcome to English ClubWith the development of science and technology, the campus life becomes more and more colorful and diversified. And various clubs aming at both entertaining and enriching college students arise. As far as I am concerned, joining our English club will benefit individuals intensively and extensively. On the one hand, languages skills of members can be immensely progressed by way of a series of well designed and soundly organized lectures together with interactive parties; on the other hand, during the progress of the organization, all the members can make the most of the chances to learn how to express their own ideas, how to reach an agreement, how to compromise. Then sound communicationg skills will be acquired. From what I have presented above, we can easily conclude that joining our English club benefit the members a lot. If you want to join us, please send your resume to Englishclub@.Unit 2Yesterday afternoon I was on duty at the check-in counter. A young man came to me and asked if his briefcase had been turned in. I said no. Then he looked over my shoulder at the conveyor belt and shouted that he had seen his briefcase going through the opening at the end of the conveyor belt. I asked him to give me his baggage claim check, but he said he didn't have one. He was just there to meet a flight. I then asked him to fill out a claim form and called down to the baggage area. Unfortunately, the briefcase had already been loaded on one of the flights and we didn't know which one. So I took the young man's phone number and assured him that we would call as soon as we found the briefcase. I promised that we would deliver it to his home address in Sioux City. The young man left. About two hours later, we learned that the briefcase was found in Denver. One of our workers called the young man to tell him the good news. To our great surprise, the young man said that he had already found his briefcase! It had been in his car! Now we had to look for the owner of the "second" briefcase.Aid Educating in ChinaEach year, college students, encouraged to aid students in the poverty-stricken areas, volunteer themselves in poor villages for a year and try to improve education in poor areas.Aid-education has been bebeficial in two aspects. On the one hand, college volunteers are really devoted to the cause. They have opened the eyes of students in underdeveloped regions to the outside world by bringing them new knowledge and thoughts. As a result, they are extremely well-received by the children there. On the other hand, college students have received a rigorous training by adapting to the harsh living conditions. They are enjoying the appreciation and no-distance friendship from the children. What’s more, they are greatly inspired by the moving and tireless spirit of the children. In my opinion, China’s educational development can’t be isolated from each individual and we college students should take the lead in response to the appeal for offering aid to children in poor areas.Unit 3To solve your problem, you should pay more attention to your communication skills. College life is not as frightening as you assumed as soon as you have learnt how to handle the assignments and get along with teachers and classmates. Teachers in college are usually very open-minded and thoughtful and are ready to help if you let them know your needs. You can phone your teachers for an appointment and tell them your problems. As to classmates, they are ready to give you a hand when they feel you have the willingness to talk about your wants. Just approach them and let them know what you have at the bottom of your heart. I believe you’ll enjoy yourself when you become accustomed to college life.Advantages of Oral CommunicationThe biggest advantages of oral communication—both face-to-face and by telephone is its speed. Once you have made contact with your receiver, the message is conveyed instantly. This speed is especially valuable when time is of the essence. Should a customer’s check be approved? Are the parts you desperately need available? An oral response can answer questions like these in a timely manner.A second advantage of oral communication is the instant feedback it provides. Do your listeners have any questions? Did you forget to say anything?A conversation can let you know. Nonverbal reacitons are just as revealing as the words your receiver speaks. Does the other person look bored? Do your remarks get enthusiastic nods and smiles or frowns and head shaking? You caneven get valuable feedback in telephone conversaions from the speaker’s tone of voice. Finally, oral communication gives you control of the situation----far more than you have with written messages. Your receivers might briefly scan the letter you worked so hard on and toss it aside. Even worse, they might not read it at all. In a conversation, however, the audience has at least to pretend to pay attention; your message ought to be clear and effective enough to be well received.Unit 4Sample 1College life is wonderful. You suddenly find yourself in an exciting place with so many new things waiting for you. When you go to the classes, you are amazed to find the world the teachers bring to you is so different from the one you are familiar with. Wherever you go, you will meet new friends, friends who are always ready to help you and discuss questions with you. What’s more, you don’t have to take as many tests as you did in high school, having more time of your own. The out-of-class activities are so varied and colorful that you sometimes simply do not know what to choose. And there are so many chances for you to get to know society by doing part-time jobs.Sample 2College life is tiring. People often say college is like a heaven, but to me college is just like a hell. It is even worse than my high school. We have to take many more courses, and do much more homework. And the teachers are never available to help us out when we need them. They seem to care less. Besides study, we have to do the laundry, shopping and cleaning all by ourselves. Students in college are all smart. Competition here is much fiercer. You can never expect to be the best. The worst thing is that in col lege you don’t have a clear goal. In high school, college entrance exams were what we were working for. But here, there’s too much for us to read and know, and sometimes we feel lost.My View on Harmonious Teacher—student Relationship From the ancient times, Chinese culture has attached importanc to harmony. Currently, our country endeavors to establish a harmonious society. And harmonious teacher—student relationship is part of it.In my opinionm harmonious teacher—student relationship is based on mutual respect and understanding. Teachers are not only instructors, but also guides for student’s career. They view students as equal individuals. As for students, they are active and modest. They regard teachers as their friends. Both sides enjoy communicating with each other. To establish such a harmonious relationship, both sides should make their commitment. As for teachers, besides full devotion to teaching, they should respect students and offer help to them when necessary. As for students, apart from obeying school’s regulations, they should learn to value and respecttheir teachers’ hard work. A harmonious teacher—student relationship is beneficial, and it deserves our efforts.Unit 5Sample 1The giant panda is the kind of animals I like best. The giant panda is one of the most critically endangered species in the world. There are only about 1,000 left in the wild and about 20XXXX0 pandas living in the zoos and the breeding centers around the world, mostly in China. Therefore, the giant panda is very rare, precious and a great source of pride in China.Although the giant panda is in the verge of extinction, it has had a long and great history. Scientists have traced this magical animal’s roots back to the time of the dinosaurs, hundreds of thousands of years ago. Because of this long history, the giant panda has lovingly been termed the “living fossil”. Today, scientists have discovered many interesting facts about the history of our planets through the study of the giant panda.Another reason why the giant panda is my favorite animal is that it represents peace and friendship. The giant panda mainly eats bamboos and doesn’t hurt other animals, so it is seen as an animal of peace and friendliness. Nowadays the giant panda acts as the animal ambassador for China. China often offers a panda to a friendly country as a sign of kinship. For example, China has presented both the United States and Japan with panda. The giant panda is graceful, friendly and rare. No wonder it is so popular with people all over the world, and undoubtedly I consider it my favorite kind of animal.Sample 2The animal that I like best is the mouse although some people think it has notorious reputation. I like this kind of animal for several reasons.Firstly, I was born in 20XXXX0XX4, the year of mouse, thus naturally and traditionally began to like mice. Secondly, the mouse is very cunning, swift and adaptable. The mouse is so good at fitting in with their surroundings that it can survive even the most adverse circumstances. Thirdly, though the mouse looks dirty and ugly and spreads diseases, it can provide an immeasurable service to human beings. For example, hundreds of white mice die in laboratories every single day in all kinds of experiments operated by scientists. In this sense, the mouse’s contribution to the human race perhaps has outweighed its destruction to us. Finally, Mickey Mouse, the mouse’s cousin, is a lovely cartoon character. It is popular with people. Of course, I am fond of it too. In a word, the mouse is so cute and I’d like to keep it as a pet.Should We Keep Animals as PetsWhen it comes to keeping animals as pets, different people hold different opinions. Some people take it for granted that it has many advantages. On the one hand, they believe animals can bring happiness to them. On the other hand, they find that they themselves become more patient and considerate by raising animal pets. However, other people think that keeping animals as pets has a lot of disadvantages. In their opinion, it will cost them much more time and money than growing flowers. Besides, sometimes uncontrollable animal pets may annoy them or even their neighbors, thus disturb the harmony among people. As to me, I am inclined to be on the side of the latter view. As a student, I’m occupied in studying, therefore spare no time taking care of troublesome animal pets.Unit 6On a Harmonious Dormotory LifeDormitary life is an indispensable part of college life. But sometimes the harmony in the dormitory is disturbed in one way or another. As is known to all, a harmonious dormitory life is important to college students and benefits all the members. On one hand, we can have a good rest and put our heart into study. On the other hand, we will have a good mood and enjoy being together. There are several ways to create and maintain a harmonious dormitory life. Firstly, you have to evaluate your life-style and try to get rid of your dirty habits, if there are any. Secondly, when an annoying situation arises, you’ll just have to learn to tolerate each other and co-exist. Thirdly, you’ll have to share with each other and make good friends. In conclusion, we should try our best to build a harmonious dormitory life for the sake of good study and good life.Unit 7Who Should Pay the Bill?In my opinion, Wu You was right not to pay the bill. In the first place, he didn’t invite Zhang Fang to dinner. If he had paid the bill for Zhang Fang, should he pay the bill for any other classmate showing up without being invited? In the second place, Zhang Fang is not on good terms with Wu You. If he had been one of Wu You’s good friends and Wu You had just forgotten to invite him, then his arrival would be welcome. And Wu You should pay for his meal. In the third place, if Ding Yi had invited Zhang Fang to dinner, Ding Yi should pay for his friend. In a word, it’s a matter of principle and I think Wu You’s practice is quite acceptable. If I were Wu You, I would not have paid the bill, either.Who Should Pay the Bill?I think Wu You should pay the bill for Zhang Fang. No matter whether he had been invited or not, he was there to celebrate Wu You’s birthday. Maybe Zhang Fang wanted to take the chance to start a good relationship with Wu You. Then Wu You’s paying for his meal would be a timely reaction to Zhang Fang’s initiative. Besides, it is a traditional Chinese virtue to be hospitable. It is said that you should rather go hungry yourself than let your guests gohungry. And everyone present is your guest. Anyone who comes to celebrate the birthday should be welcome. What’s more, it would be a small amount of money after all. Wu You could afford it. So I think Wu You is too willful and not considerate enough in this case.。
