Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Most advertisements make products seem much better then they really are.Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer. Advertising is one of the most useful ways for enterprise to convince their customers of the products. In fact, advertisements should be honest that it contains real information of the product. Meanwhile nowadays advertisement appears to be more misleading and make products better from the appearance.Advertisement seems to make us hard to tell the reality from the fantasy. There is a specific example. When targeted to the young children, enterprises tend to use fantasy themes and characters from fantasy movies to help show off their product. Since young children tend not to tell the reality to the fantasy, they will be misled and believe that the product appearing in the advertisement is worth buying. But in fact, the quality of theproduct will disappoint its buyers. Moreover, nowadays manufacturers tend to ask celebrities to advertise theirproducts. This will also be misleading, too. The celebrities who advertise theproduct may not use the product at all and he knows nothing about the product. But the audiences tend to believe him since they think the celebrity is alwaysresponsible for what he said in a public situation. The celebrity makes thisproduct worth buying, but in fact, it is not as good as the thing appears on thetelevision.Sometimes manufacturers just do not ask any celebrities to help them withadvertising. What they do is just to find someone acting as the users of theproduct. This will be even more misleading since they better convince theaudience that the product is of great use, since the audience tends to believepeople who have something in common with themselves. On the contrary, theproduct is not usually so valuable that the audience is cheated bymerchants.Under these circumstances, advertisements seem misleading and make peoplefeel better about the product. Although there is possibilitythat someadvertisements are worth believing, at most time advertisement seems to guide usto a wrong direction.。

The whole point of advertising is to encourage us to buy things we don't need. Advertisers are in the business of making money of themselves and their clients. If they manage to sell us something that's good for us too, that's fine. But their primary goal is profit. It begins when we're children. Saturday morning children's television is full of commercials. Over and over again, children see images of toys and games. They see other children who are having the time of their lives. They watch these children and get the message that if they want to have that much fun, they need to buy those things. Thus, at a very early age, we're introduced to two ideas: that we want to be like everyone else, and we want to have what everyone else has. This continues throughout our lives. We spend a lot of our money trying to keep up with our neighbors. We buy the latest model cars, have all the latest gadgets in our homes, and live a lifestyle beyond our budgets. Advertising encourages us to define ourselves by what we own rather than by who we are. It encourages a competition of false values and shallow measurements of what matters in our lives.Advertising can be damaging. However, it is also one of the ways in which our economy keeps growing. People need to buy products in order for other people to have jobs manufacturing, transporting and selling those products. Advertising also keepsus informed about new products that may actually help us in some way. For these reasons, you could say advertising is a necessary evil. Advertising does not mean to educate or illustrate. Primarily it is a vehicle for business and it aims to sell products. As a result, the information we can gather from looking at advertisings is quite limited. However, the cultural ideas used to sell commodities reveal a society's value system, and from the nature of the advertising and the product it aims to sell we can draw conclusions as to which social demography might be the most affluent. In order to be most effective an advertising campaign will make use of the cultural values of a country.Obviously, companies will be able to sell more products if a great many people relate to the goods and the images used to sell them. For example, in a country like the United States where a great percentage of the population is religious, advertisers use expressions such as heavenly, divine, or revelation, because these have connotations that prospective customers will likely identify with. Similarly, advertisers will try to employ fashion models who embody a culture's ideals of personal beauty, because attractive men and women will sell more products than unattractive ones.Companies identify social demographics or parts of society that are most likely to buy their products and design their advertisings accordingly. For example, teenage girls are more likely to buy mobile phones than retired factory workers. Thus companies will make use of fashion trends in their ads and probably pay a famous pop singer a big chunk of money toendorse their product. If the majority of all advertisings in a country are geared towards a specific target market or audience, then this part of the population probably has the most financial resources at their disposal.Although we can learn some things about a country by looking at its advertising we have to remember that this knowledge is limited. After all, advertising is only directed at people who have the means to buy consumer goods. Thus advertising does not tell us anything about the overall prosperity or likes and dislikes of a country. Also, advertising not only reflects but also tries to shape and change cultural values. Therefore, it does not accurately reflect the exact state of a country's culture. Consumers are faced with increasing numbers of advertisements from competing companies. To what extent do you think are consumers influenced by advertisements? What measures can be taken to protect them?Television screens, newspapers, buses, and almost all city streets are flooded by all kinds of advertisements. This has both advantages and disadvantages to consumers who are unavoidably influenced, though the degrees vary from person to person.Because of the advertisements placed by many competing companies, consumers are able to learn about certain new products rapidly. If a product happens to be what some consumers need, they might be attracted to make a purchase and have trial use. If it turns out to be really good, people would set about recommending it to friends and the sales of this product will go up very quickly. So, we see this is a win-win situation bothto consumers and manufacturers and we also see that consumers are not just influenced profoundly all at once. It takes time for them to establish faith in the advertised products. In most cases, the advertised products are good and worth buying. But there are also cases where the effects or functions of a certain product are much exaggerated and it will definitely fool some people when they are attracted all at once and go to buy it. Since a product can only win the market through its quality and its long established fame, there's every reason to believe that those fake or much exaggerated products will eventually lose their market shares and die out. Thus, we see that the market is selective and consumers are sensible in the long term.In developed countries, there are strict censorship and supervising systems regarding advertising. If the advertisement put up by a company fails to honor the advertised effects, it would be termed as fraud, thus violating the law which could lead to really serious result. In most cases, the manufacturing company would be fined so heavily that it would be difficult for it to survive any longer. From the foregoing discussion, we can see that advertisements influence consumers both favorably and unfavorably and the degrees of this influence differ from person to person. T o protect consumers, governments can follow the practice of developed countries by enforcing really strict censorship and supervising laws in regard to advertising as a whole. Can advertising tell you a lot about a country?Do you agree or disagree with the following statement?Advertising can tell you a lot about a e specific reasons and examples to support your answer.

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Television, newspapers, magazines, and other media pay too much attention to the personal lives of famous people such as public figures and celebrities. Use specific reasons and details to explain your opinion. It is true that television programs concerning personal lives of celebrities always receive the highest audience rating. It is also true that newspapers and magazines are constantly reporting stories, which are usually beyond confirmation, about famous people, and that autobiographies written by public figures are always on the top 10 best-sellers list. It seems that we live in a world where a few individuals are drawing nearly all attentions. Nevertheless, it is not exactly precise to criticize the mass media, including television, newspapers, magazines and so forth, for paying too much focus on the personal lives of famous people such as public figures and celebrities. In fact, it is the public, to a large extent, rather than mass media, that is paying too much attention on personal lives of celebrities. Most organizations of mass media industry, beinginherently commercial, are driven by business motivations. Television program producers, as well as columnists and writers, are always aware of what the public want to see, therefore tend to pander to tastes of the public. To put in another way, the mass media is audience-oriented, and the phenomenon is well interpreted and manipulated that when famous people such as actors, athletes and rock stars give their opinions, many people listen. It is the nature of the public, who are curious enough about personal lives of famous people, since they can never be famous. On the other hand, it is holistically detrimental for the society if the mass media pay too much focus on famous few so as to ignore the rest of the individuals. After all, the mission of the mass media is not merely to cater to the needs of customers, but has a much wider scope, such as to tell the truth, to define what is good and what is bad; to promote cultural values, and the list could be endless. More popular science programs should be produced by television, more reports on poor rural lives should be publicized, more books concerning not famous but respectable people such as, nurses who are fighting SARS fearlessly, teachers who are performing their duties regardless of poverty of remote villages, journalists who publicize theirpieces under political menace, and this is another endless list should be written.托福写作常用词组整理1hand in hand 手拉手,携手in hand 在掌握中,在控制中on hand 在手边,临近on (the) one hand…一方面…on the other hand…另一方面at heart 在内心;实质上by heart 牢记,凭记忆at home 在家,在国内;自在,自如in honor of 向…表示敬意on one’s honor 以某人的名誉担保in a hurry 匆忙地,立即for instance 例如,举例说at intervals 不时,时时at last 最终,终于at least 至少,最低限度in the least 一点,丝毫托福写作常用词组整理2at length 终于,最后;详细地in the light of 按照,根据in line 成一直线,排成一行in line with 与…一致,按照at a loss 困惑,不知所措as a matter of fact 其实,事实上by all means 无论如何,必定by means of 借助于, 用by no means 决不in memory of 纪念at the mercy of 在…支配下by mistake 错误地at the moment 片刻,一会儿for a moment 现在,暂时in a moment 立刻,马上托福大作文-媒体广告类范文。

The role of advertisements

Some people say that advertising encourages us to buy things we really do not need. Others say that advertisements tell us about new products that may improve our lives. Which viewpoint do you agree with? Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.

The role of advertisementsThe issue of the role of advertising in our lives is a very controversial one. Some people think that advertising encourages us to buy things that we really do not need, because they claim that advertisements have the power to influence on our purchasing behavior. Nevertheless, my point of view is that advertisements are incredible source of information about new products that may improve our lives.First of all, these advertisements can help us to choose things easier and also save our time. For example, as a result of such an advertisement, a few years ago I bought very useful tool to lose my weight. The only thing that I needed to do wasto attach it to any problem area of my body for twenty minutes a day. Thus I did not to have do heavy exercises to lose my weight. The additional advantage was that this tool also helped me save time for my favorite activities. The second reason is that quite often advertisements tell us about new products that can save our money. Again as a result of such an advertisement I bought some special micro fiber cloths, which could help me to clean my apartment only by using water. Thanks to its specific characteristics and possibility of long-time usage, I do not need to buy any more different kinds of liquids or powders for house cleans. Therefore the advertisement of this kind of cloth saved my money.Last but not least advertisements can tell us about new products, which bring us new ways to cook healthier food. Fore instance, after watching a television advertisement, a friend of mine bought a special pot, with which she can prepare meat and vegetables without using any water or oil. This pot uses only the natural hot steam to cook. Thus it helps to keep more vitamins and minerals in the food, and get rid of the fat.In conclusion, advertisements of new products definitely improve our life, because they tell us about things that make our life easier, save our time and money, and even cook our food better..tab111 a:link,.table111 a:hover {padding:2px 4px;}.tab111 a:hover,.table111 a:active {background:#FFF;color:#FFCC99;padding:2px 4px;text-decoration:none;}.tab111 {font-family: 微软雅黑;}.tab111 a { color:#FFF;font-weight:bold;text-align:center;}.tab111 a:link,.table111 a:hover {padding:2px 4px;}.tab111 a:hover,.table111 a:active {background:#FFF;color:#FFCC99;padding:2px 4px;text-decoration:none; }.tab111 {font-family: 微软雅黑;}.tab111 a { color:#FFF;font-weight:bold;text-align:center;}。

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Advertisementstargeting children aged between 2 and 5 should be banned. Issues related to the advertising industry have beenbrought up incessantly due to their controversial nature. The distinct side effects incurred through advertising arebeing intensified in this information age. In order to curbpotential harm, some people propose that the production ofadvertisements targeting children aged between 2 and 5should be strictly banned. I must say I agree with thissuggestion.Above all, the health of small children deserves to bethe top priority in society. Advertisements targeted at thisage group are mostly related to medicine, snacks, food anddrinks as well as health care products. The consumers arenot medical experts and therefore, it is hard for them to judgewhether the information in those promotions is false orexcessively exaggerated. Moreover, advertising is a majorcontributor to children's unhealthy eating habits. Some ofthe most typical evidence can be found in fast foodcommercials. The appealing pictures of dishes makechildren addicted to the food which is high in sugar and fat.Consequently, in order to avoid being misled into buyingharmful or futile products, we should advocate a ban onthese advertisements. The tempting messages in advertisements may lead toan unnecessary waste of money. The primary intention ofmost advertisements is a desire for financial gains.Advertisers are filling commercials with appealing visualeffects so as to spark consumers' desires to buy suchtargeted products. Faced with these overwhelming odds, there is no way for children to be fully protected from theonslaughts. In mostcases, they would do their utmosttopersuade their parents to buy their dream objects likeexpensive toys, snacks and drinks. Thus, much money isspent on superfluous merchandise, which is abandonedsoon after being purchased. What's worse, the world is fullof indulgent parents who are willing to pay.Advertisements targeting all young children should bebanned. It is the government's responsibility to reduce theharmful influences of advertisements on children to a largeextent. Childhood is an important period when a personbegins to adopt his values and form his concepts. Immatureyoungsters are lacking in essential abilities to distinguishbetween good and evil. Thus, they might be more easilymisled by false ideas and messages included in theadvertising. Sweden was the first country to ban alladvertisements targeting children under 12 years old, whichsets a powerful example for other nations around the worldto follow. In conclusion, under the powerful influence of the massmedia, children as a special group of people, need to be wellprotected from the hidden hazards existing in advertising. Itis imperative that parents along with the government joinhands to eliminate anything that may negatively impact orharm children. Therefore, banning advertisements targetedat young children is totally justifiable.

Advertising is a powerful tool that can be used to persuade people to buy products or services. There are many different types of advertisements, including print ads, television commercials, and online ads. Each type of advertisement has its own advantages and disadvantages.Print ads are a great way to reach a specific audience. For example, if you want to target people who read acertain magazine, you can place an ad in that magazine. Print ads are also great for showcasing products, as they can include high-quality images and detailed descriptions.Television commercials are another popular form of advertising. The speaker raises serious counterarguments against the reading paragraphs by providing drastically different evidences regarding th e effects of the advertisement, the impact of self-selecting medication, and the impact of trends in the pharmaceutical industry.First, knowing more information from the ads will not necessarily help the patients make better-informed decisions, as the reading argues. On the contrary, patients, without professional training and knowledge, will be more susceptible to misunderstanding information. For example, they would focus only on the positive sides of a certain medicine while ignoring the serious side effects. In addition, if the patients bear the responsibility of prescribing their own medication, they assume more responsibility to their own health. This makes doctors less liable for potential risks and undesirable consequences.Lastly,as for the new trends' benefits to the patients, the speaker does not challenge the reading directly. Instead, he argues that the new medicine, which will count for most of the ads may not necessarily be the best medicine, even though the patients can inform their doctors about the new products. 使用时不能和小朋友互动(ask question and get feedback)2. The speaker rebuts the reading's argument by pointing out the inadequacy of the web-storybook services' interaction with children, the incompleteness of the data pool, and by undermining the assumption that saving parents' reading time is a benefit. The speaker begins by stating that merely pronouncing the words and story for the children will not provide adequate learning experiences. Despite the time saved and pronunciation utilities laid out in the reading, the web services can only respond with "correct" or "not correct". The lack of feedback to children's questions will not create an effective learning process. Then the speaker goes on to argue that the current web-storybook services have a very limited collection of books, thus not being able to save parents the cost of new books as the reading states, because the parents still have to buy many books that the web services do not provide.Lastly, the speaker challenges the validity of the assumption of saving parents' time to read stories to children. The reading argues that saving the time is a benefit for the parents, but the speaker maintains that the whole point of reading stories is far beyond reading stories alone. In contrast, it is an essential way of communicating and building relationship between parents and children.

Television advertising is always the most popular way to attract more customers, for it shows or illustrates the products and their functions more directly and vividly. And nowadays as parents show more love to their childr en, companies make all efforts to advertise directly to young children, which can " persuade" parents to pay more for their children and gain more profits. However, as far as I am concerned, I strongly believe that it is harmful to young children wh en television advertising directed towards to them. There are two reasons to illustr ate my opinion.First and foremost, television advertising should not be directed towards to y oung children, for children lack the ability to identify good or bad. The children at the age from two to five are too young to tell the good from the bad, which will le ad them to make the wrong choices. As advertisement agencies are good at takin g advantages of high technology, young children are easily attracted by the colorf ul and lively ads and are lured to buy something useless or harmful to them. For in stance, the advertisements of chewing gums are always dramatic and fantastic, wh ich easily please young children with imaging the joy of chawing those chewing g ums. Then the children will keep bothering their parents for buying them chewinggums. However, since chewing gums are made of several chemical compounds wh ich have some bad effects on children's health, young children are actually harme d by these advertisements and their products. Some young children even died bec ause they suddenly choked when they chawed chewing gums. Therefore, to some degree, television advertising directed towards the young children is not only a wa ste of parent's money, but also harmful to young children's health. In the second place, television advertising directed towards to young children means that young children are more attracted by television programmes, which is harmful to their eyesight and interfering to foster their social communications. Ac cording to some research, more and more children become shortsighted at young er age than before, because of watching television too much. In addition, as the c hildhood is the best and essential time to acquire basic skills, if young children are absorbed in television programmes, they will lack a lot of chances to get along wi th others and make new friends. This is particularly not beneficial to foster their so cial communication skills, which will have bad influence on their life-long develop ment. Hence, television advertising should not be directed towards young children. All in all, television advertising directed towards young children (aged two to five) should not be allowed, for it not only is harmful to their health, but also has b ad effects on their self-development.。

In my opinion, advertisements can be both helpful and annoying. On one hand, advertisements can provide useful information about products and services. For example, I recently saw an ad for a new study app that could help me with my math homework. Without the ad, I may have never known about this helpful tool. Additionally, ads can be entertaining and creative. I always enjoy watching Super Bowl commercials because they are often funny and memorable. On the other hand, ads can be overwhelming and intrusive. I hate when I am trying to watch a YouTube video and have to sit through a 30-second ad. It feels like a waste of time and can be frustrating. Additionally, someads can be misleading or manipulative. Do you agree or disagree with the following statement? Most advertisements make products seem much better then they really are. Use specific reasons and examples to support your answer.Nowadays, we are in an era of information explosion, companies are using innumerable methods to advertise their products; and consumers have more information of these products for them to select. However, the true fact is that, most advertisements make products more fascinating and attractive then they really are.First of all, edit software or applications used by advertiser to embellish the outlooks of the products. When consumers sit in front of television, have a glance of magazines or even drive on the highway, they will find mounting advertisements with splendid designs. The beautiful background, grogeous package and selective pigment catch consumers’ eyes firmly. For example, I like to choose clothes on line, because it is really convenient. All the styles are fashionable, and the color seems wonderful, so I can\'t help buying them immediately. Unfortunately, after I received the packages of these clothes, I was so disappointed; because they were really don\'t like them exhibited on line. The cloth was uncomfortable and the color was very ugly. Undoubtedly, advertisements sometime deceive consumers by the sophisticated edit work.Secondly, celebrities in advertisements make the products more attractive. Celebrities usually have good reputation or professional image in specific domains, so people, especially who are the fans of the celebrities, trust them and follow their recommends. When Angelia Julie said that a specific foundation is fabulous, most women will be crazy on it. Therefore, companies always invite movie stars, singers or hosts to pronounce that their products are the best choice in the world. Moreover, most celebrities have not investigated the real property of the products they advertised, so their words may not have reliability. For example, a TV star, who act in \'the big bang theory\', is advertising a website called Priceline, which focuses on the sell of something like cheap flight tickets or restaurants booking. The actress says that this website afford the cheapest price of flights and restaurant rental online. But how does she know? In short, celebrities\' promotions in the advertisements declined consumers’ senses, and maybe exaggerate the characters of products.Lastly, the information of products between advtisers and consumers is not equal. When a new product comes out, consumers have no idea on it--How does it function? What are the advantages and the disadvantages? Or does it have any harm to human beings? As you know, either manufacturers or advertisers would not answer all of these questions. They may only tell consumers that this product is the best and perfect. For instance, no one has seen McDonald’s advertising that their products is junk food and unhealthy. Consumers only saw the picture, which shows a delicious hamburger with green vegetables even not like the truth and the words \' I\'m loving it\'. Advertisements cover up some dark side of products, and only show consumers their bright side.Granted, some specific advertisements would portray products\' limitations or flaws, butalways use some faint descriptions at unnoticeable place. In general, the purpose of most advertisement is to overstate the advantage of products as much as possible and stimulate consumers to buy them. Apparently, in most advertisement products will be much better than they really are.。

(15)Do you agree or disagree with the following statement:nowadays advertisements are more honest than they were in the past.

(话题引入+展示争论的话题+ 我的观点及过渡)Advertising is an effective way to popularize products. In this world full of intense competitions, advertisements increasingly incorporate into our daily lives taking different forms. Along with this phenomenon comes a heated debate: are today’s advertisements more honest than they were in the past? From my perspective, businessmen nowadays are more inclined to make their advertisements exaggerated in order to take an upper hand in commercial competition. There are two examples below that can well illustrate my viewpoint.

(主题句+说理论证+细节例子)The first example comes from the food industry nowadays. It is not uncommon that food companies choose to feature their food in an exaggerating way with the purpose of catching customers’ attention. Once I went by the door of a restaurant, a salesman handed me a coupon that was a form of advertisement. This coupon presented a mouth-watering burger with a big chunk of beef and many fresh vegetables. My empty stomach compelled me to enter the restaurant and order that burger. However, to my disappointment, I only found that the burger was much smaller than what was shown in the coupon.

Never in human history have we witnessed so much advertisement caused for pruducts. The controversy centers largely at whether we should adversitising goods via TV or other channels. It is, in my opinion that, arguable that advertisiments should not implicate almost all those merchants’ vigor, for reasons as follows.
First, devoting boundant of commercial activities to merchandise will add to the cost of them. Generally speaking, most of manufactures invite celebrities to give their products advertisements. The focus of that problems are that the famous may charge you an arm and a leg for those. Finally, these money will add to the product prices. So the prices of goods we get are much higher than the value of them.
Meanwhile, incomplete infommation about the characteristics of products we obtain from those commercials may mislead us buying them. We may just gain bright sides of all traits, and at largely extent the controversy will be disguised to struggle for letting crowed unknow for ever. For instance, weight loss product named Qumei consists the substance of Sibutramine HCL which may increase the risk of CVD, so that the potential hazard of weight loss treatment outweigh benefits.
And of course, I do not intend to creat the impression here that what all commercial advertisiments produce are hazardous to citizen. After all, they can inform consumers of new pruducts and encourage competition in quality. But if a certain product has good properties and quality without commercials, the crowed know about it sooner or later.
So as far as I am concerned, I do not devote the conception that all products need advertisements. Not only do advertisements added to merchandise lead to asking for more but also misdirect us. Merchants should pose their energetic to the quality of products , so that advertisiments may not implicate almost all those vigor。
