Talk to ss with “can/could”.

Ⅲ.Teaching procedure

1.Introduce the idea that we also use …may‟and …might‟to

express possibilities. Ss probably know how to use …may‟for making polite requests but possibly will not know the meaning of …might‟.

2.Tell them …might‟ is the past form of …may‟.

However we also use …might‟ to talk about possibility.

3.Explain the context by talking to ss about the Class 1,Grade

7 ss‟summer camp and what the ss may/may not or

might/might not do there..

Talk ss through some examples using questions about everyday events at your school. Free talk. Listening Explaining

4.Ask ss to study the tables at the top of the page ,and explain

to them the difference between the uses of …may‟and …might‟.

Encourage them to think of their own examples to express

degrees of possibilities.

5.Explain the context of Part C.

Ask ss to read what each person is saying and underline the key words in each speech bubble,i.e.‟maybe‟, …only a small chance‟, …I‟m sure‟ and …highly possible‟.

These words will determine the use of specific modal verbs.

6.Then ask ss to complete sentences 1-4 at the bottom of the

page.

Check the answers as a class activity.

7.Clarify any possible problems. Completing sentences

Set up a real scene:

Tell ss that they are stranded on a desert island and have to plan how they will survive.

Ask each student to draw two pictures of objects which would be useful on desert island.

Then talk about the pictures with modal verbs:might may.

Eg.Kinfe We might go hunting for food.
