A：上一次我们向大家介绍了一些初次见面时的注意用语，大家是否已经“现学现卖”，交上了新朋友呢？
B：我想答案一定是肯定的啦~既然已经交上了新朋友，那么免不了一起参加一些娱乐活动。

增进一下感情是吧？
A：没错，这次我们就要介绍一些关于娱乐休闲方面的实用短语。

The first sentence we’ll talk about is Hang in there.
B：要说到娱乐嘛，最健康的娱乐方式是什么！当然是健身啦！
A：唉，和朋友一起去健身房时，我总是会因为疲惫不堪而半途而废，看来苗条的好身材是与我无缘了。

B：别灰心！让我为你加油鼓气！再撑一下，一定要坚持下去！
让我们看看下面这个情景：
A: OMG. You’re still doing aerobic. How long do you do aerobics [,e?’rob?ks] every time in the gym?
B: Generally more than one hour.
A: That is too long. Don’t you feel tired?
B: Of course I do. But the longer I do it the more

A：但是这句话一不小心就会说成Hang on there. 如果你这样表达，会有什么样的影响呢？请看下面的小对话。

B：等等等等，我实在是跑不动了，我们休息一会吧。

A：我还想再跑会儿，要不你先休息吧。

B：那好吧，Hang on there.
A：你是在讽刺我赖着不走么。

B：我给你打气，你怎么还生我的气呢？
A： hang有“逗留，悬挂”的意思，hang on的本意的确是“坚持，抓紧”。

B：没错，但是这个词组通常只在讲电话时表示“不要挂断”的意思，如Hang on a minute/Hang on a second.
A：所以我们的Twelve同学就想当然的认为“坚持下去”就应该是Hang on.
B：唉，但是我只知其一不知其二啊，Hang on的确有“坚持”的意思，但他和there连用的时候，却通常和“坚
持”没有任何关系，而是“赖着不走”，带有“厚脸皮”的讽刺意味。

A：可见，介词in和on的不同，会产生很大的歧义。

我们在对待这样的形似短语的时候一定要加倍小心哦！否则可是会重蹈Twelve同学的覆辙的。

A：thumb的意思是“拇指”。

在中国，向别人竖起拇指是表示称赞别人，相当于“That’s the spirit!”或者“Good job”的意思。

B：哦~那我说You’re all thumbs，一定就是在夸奖你全身上下都顶呱呱！没错吧？
A：才不是呢，别自作聪明了！You’re all thumbs.在英语中是个固定用法，意思是You are clumsy也就是“笨手笨脚的”。

B：哦对！大拇指的确是所有手指里最不灵活的一个了。

A：别摆弄你的手指头了。

如果要用thumb来表示称赞的意思，则应该用thumbs up，也就是“干得好”的意思。

Well, here comes the third sentence.
The tone there is sick.
A：除了运动，估计大家最常参与的娱乐活动就要数K 歌了。

B：的确，在音质超棒的KTV里进行一次美妙的音乐体验，无疑是享受生活的一种方式。

让我们来看看下面一段对话：
A: We have a two-day holiday this weekend.
B: Oh, it’s really a surprise. Have you any plans?
A: I have no idea. I am so tired these days that I really need a good relaxation. What’s your opinion?
B: Uh… We are out of practice at singing. What about going to the KTV on Saturday? A: Great! Which KTV can we choose?
B: AGOGO is a good choice. The tone there is sick.
A：真奇怪？Sick不是“生病的，恶心的”意思么？为什么你会选择一家“恶心的”KTV啊？
B：这你就不懂了吧，the tone is sick表达的不是“这音乐吵得我要生病了”，恰恰相反，是
“音质很棒”的意思。

用现在的一句流行语来说，就是“这音质真给力”！
A：原来是这样，看来我也犯了望文生义的毛病了啊。

The movie went like a bomb.
A：要说另外一项必不可少的娱乐项目，那可能就是电影了吧？
B：的确，挑选影片可是要费一番功夫的。

如果不幸“踩雷”，那你就惨咯。

A: Have you heard that a new film Inception is now on.
B: Of course, I had seen it last weekend. The movie went like a bomb!
A: It seems I have to change the plan to see it.
B: Well, you will never regret it.
A： Bomb是“炸弹”的意思，go like a bomb和be like a bomb虽然只有一字之差，意思却有天壤之别。

B： go like a bomb是指“极快的，非常成功的”，可以用来形容一些票房飘红的电影，比如去年如火如荼的AVATAR。

A：但是be like a bomb就是完全相反的意思，即“非常糟糕的”，想想看，如果一部电影像个地雷一样把你雷翻了，你会觉得它是一部好电影么？
B：当然不会，不过欣赏一部雷到极致的影片也是一种entertainment嘛。
