Mr and Mrs Brown lived in a small house near London with their child. Sometimes Mr Brown came back from work very late, when his wife and the child were having a sleep, and then he opened the front door of his house with his key and came in very quietly.

But one night when he came home late, he lost his key. So he had to reach the door and rang the bell. Nothing happened. He rang it again. Again nothing happened. Nobody moved inside the house. Mr Brown knocked at the bedroom window. He spoke to his wife. He shouted, but she didn't wake up. At last he stopped and thought for a few seconds. Then he began to speak like a child. "Mom!" he said. "I want to go to the washroom." he spoke very quietly, but at once Mrs Brown woke up. Then he spoke to her and she opened the door for him.

Once there was an old farmer. The farmer worked very hard all his life. He had three sons, and they were all lazy boys. He wanted them to become good farmers.

One day the farmer felt ill, and he was dying. He called his sons to him and said,"Boys, I'm going to leave you. There's a lot of gold hidden in the field. Go and dig for it. It is all I have to give you."

Light and shadow(影子)are friends. They usually go together. We recieve(收到)light every day. At the same time, we produce(产生)shadow.

Light can't shine through you. Your body stops it from passing. There is a dark spot(斑点)on the ground next to you. The light can't reach the dark spot. This is your shadow.

At noon the sun shines over your head. Your body stops very little light from reaching the groung. So your shadow is quite short.
