Part 1. The Analysis of the Teaching Materials
本课选自高一年下学期模块四第十单元。
本单元的主要话题是MONEY。
而本课是一个阅读课,是一篇报道文章,报道一位曾经是百万富翁的大学教授Charles Gray对生活和金钱的感悟。
报道的内容真实,能激发学生对于生活和金钱态度的思考和讨论。
话题:“不做百万富翁的人”。
选材合理,难度适中,比较适合高中生的英语认知水平。
通过对本课的学习和阅读,学生可以了解到在物质世界里,人们对金钱的态度,形成良好的价值观。
同时,学生还能在阅读中获取阅读技巧,感知一些词汇的用法,为知识的输出和下节课的语言知识讲解做出铺垫。
Part 2. The Analysis of the Students
The students will be interested in the topic of money, which is close to their own lives;
They can’t get the general idea or find out specific details skillfully.
They have the basic second language capability and a certain amount of vocabulary;
They are weak in speaking and reading, and often make mistakes while practicing.

(1) Guiding Ideology
As has been prescribed in the Curriculum Criteria of English Teaching in Ordinary High School, high school students should be able to deal with a text by using different reading skills such as intensive reading, scanning, and skimming according to different reading aims and materials.
(2) The Design Way of Thinking
Two characteristics:
--Improve students’ speaking and reading ability;
--Achieve a better balance between reading and language studying.

Part 5 Teaching Procedure
The purpose is to arouse the students’ interest of study.
首先利用图片进行话题导入,结合问题,让学生有话可说,进行“Free Talk”。
再设置悬念,打开学生思路,引起学生阅读兴趣。
Step 1 Warm up & Pre-reading
Let Ss think about the question: Would you like to be a millionaire? Why or why not?
Then discuss something about money to know the function of money by using these two questions: 1. What can money buy? 2. What can’t money buy?
And then use a special sentence to introduce the main character,
Step 2 Reading
The purpose is to develop the skills of skimming and how to gain the main idea of the articles. Practice guessing ability of learning new expressions.
学生快速阅读全文,通过浏览和判断对错练习,了解文章大意,使学生对文章总体布局有所了解, 同时处理一些简单的词汇问题。
在语境中理解词汇,并体会词汇的用法。
1)First Reading -- skimming:
Students read the passage as quickly as they can to find out the main idea and answer the following true or false questions
True or False or No Information
1. Charles Gray was a rich businessman.
2. He hasn’t got a stove in his dormitory.
3. He has got a vegetable garden.
4. Charles gave his money away to poor people.
5. People thought he was drunk when he gave away small bank notes in the street.
6. He was happier when he was rich.
Then I students match the verbs from the text with the correct meanings individually.
1. to give away a) to return
2. to drop out b) to stop doing something
3. to give up c) to change or leave a lifestyle
4. To go back d) to give someone something you don’t need
The purpose is to develop the skills of scanning and how to gain the details from the articles and exercise student’s comprehensive ability in limited time with questions.
As we know , audio-visual method make the students have a better understanding of the passage, so I play with the tape paragraph by paragraph to let students find out the key information of each paragraph and pick up their hands to give the answer.
带着问题阅读。
这一环节是在上一环节的基础上,给学生几个问题,让学生带着问题来阅读,形成从段落到句子的阅读细化过程,使学生循序渐进地加深文章大意理解。
2)Second Reading – Careful Reading & Listening
Listen to the tape recorder carefully paragraph by paragraph
Try to get the correct answer to each question
Para 1. What is the final goal for a lot of people?
Para 5. How did he deal with his money?
Para 6. What did Charles Gray decide to do and what has he discovered?
Para 6. How does he feel now? Good or bad?
The purpose is to emphasize and consolidate the new language of the text and develop the skills of retelling with the key words. This part can enable students to understand the given material better, to make the students grasp the useful expressions on the basis of the first two reading steps.
经过两轮阅读,学生已基本熟悉课文。
这一环节是更加细化文章内容,让学生自己动手,使文章学习从总的概括更进一步细化到单词。
提取细节信息,理解课文,为读后的模拟采访活动做铺垫。
3)Third Reading -- Summary
Read the text again and try to fill in the gaps in the following summary.
(1) Living Condition
16 years ago, ex-millionaire Charles Gray a college professor , he a huge six-bedroom house and $2 millions. Today, he in a small dormitory room with furniture. He with a few fruit trees, and some vegetables and a few flowers. He also clothes and other things from charity shops.
(2) Attitude

lifestyles of a rich man. He being a person who had in a world where people had .Charles Gray all his money to charities and he that there were hungry people in the world. He decided to and discovered that having only a little money .
To learn is to use. After the reading, students will have some practices. In these activities students should learn to co-operate and solve problems.Students do a pair work revolve around the vocabulary and expressions which they have just learned and make short dialogues with them. “Task-base d” teaching method is used here to develop the students’ ability of communication and also their ability of co-operation will be well trained. Proper activity can arouse the Student s’ interest in English learning. If S tudents can finish this task well, they will benefit a lot in their spoken English. By this step, it achieved the teaching aim of understanding and talking the dialogue of this lesson.
The traditional teacher-centered English instruction with the sole purpose of teaching linguistic knowledge and skills is being replaced by the student-centered teaching mode focusing not merely on linguistic knowledge and skills but more on practical ability to use the target language and autonomous learning.

通过三步阅读,我们将文章从化整为零,完成了输入阶段,到这里我们要通过任务进行输出练习,并将重新将文章组合起来。
通过访谈,提问和回答来巩固课文主要内容,内化信息并进行语言输出活动。
传统的以教师为中心、单纯传授语言知识和技能的英语教学将被以学生为中心、既传授一般的语言知识与技能,又更加注重培养语言运用能力和自主学习能力的教学模式所取代。
Step 3 Post-Reading -- Practice

•In pairs, look back the text, and write the questions that Angus Deayton asked Charles Gray.
•Then in groups, the pairs take turns to ask and answer your questions .
•Try to get all the information from text in the answers.
The general aim of English teaching is to improve the ability of using English. In the discussion, they can speak what they learned. Without doubt, this will encourage them to speak out. In fact, it is a kind of demand of human being. This part also leads to the emotion objective of this lesson, which is to have moral education.
语言的最终目的是为了成功进行交流。
书面练习只是学习方法,语言交流才是目标。
通过假设彩票中奖这一话题进行对话练习,学生的表达能力和语言知识运用能力都得到了进一步的锻炼。
在新课标的指导下,教师教学要体现学生的主体性,具体体现在正确引导学生自主学习,将方法和技能传授给学生,再给予帮助和鼓励让学生在课堂上的输出成为一种:“水到渠成”,从而彻底改变传统教学中教师讲,学生听,课堂完全由教师展示的局面。
