Unit_5 Hydraulic Structures(翻译版)郑州大学研究生专业英语课程
We may divide open channel flow into steady and unsteady flow. Steady refers to time. If the discharge in a channel at any one point does not change with time, we are dealing with steady flow. If it does change with time, we have unsteady flow, for instance, when a wave is traveling in a channel or when the discharge is gradual.
We may divide open channel flow also into uniform and non-uniform flow. Uniform refers to distance. If the wetted cross-sectional area of an open channel is the same from one location to another, we are dealing with uniform flow. If it does change from place to place, we have non-uniform flow; for instance, when the slope of the channel steeps, when the channel contains an obstruction, or when the flow is backed up by a dam.

Apparently artists and scientists are not that fundamentally different and perhaps there is even an underlying connection between the cognitive processes that give rise to both arts and sciences.21.At the beginning of the passage, two questions are raised to explore the relation between______.A.early education and the futureB.intelligence and emotional quotientC.art training and cognitive developmentD.the human brain and its cognitive components22.(选项不确定)From music education to dance training to visual arts lessons, the researchers found that______.A.early training in the arts improved certain cognitive skillsB.early education in the arts enhanced the learning by heartC.art training was widely conducted during childhoodD.the artistic education took many forms for children23.What can be inferred about the author’s art lessons during childhood?A.Proficient.B.Deficient.0.Popular.D.Various.24.According to the passage, the current findings______.A.present the working mechanism of the right and left brainsB.challenge the popular division of right-or left-brain learnersC.reveal the fundamental differences between artists and scientistsD.interpret the different cognitive processes in scientists and artists25.Which of the following can be the best title for the passage?A.Brainy ArtB.Learning ArtC.Arts TrainingD.Cognitive Science(选项不确定) (有关art training&cognition之类的)Passage twoBullying can take a variety of forms, from the verbal to the physical as well as indirect forms, such as being excluded from social groups.Bullying is clearly unpleasant, and can make the child experiencing it feel unworthy and depressed. In extreme cases it can even lead to suicide, though this is thankfully rare.Until recently, not much was known about the topic, and little help was available to teachers to deal with bullying.Perhaps as a consequence, schools would often deny the problem."There is no bullying at this school'has been a common answer if asked, almost certainly untrue.Fortunately more schools are now saying:“There is not much bullying here, but when it occurs we have a clear policy for dealing with it.”Three factors are involved in this change.First is an awareness of the severity of the problem.Second,a number of resources to help tackle bullying have become available in Britain. For example, the Scottish Council for Research in Education produced a package of materials,Action Against Bullying, circulated toall schools in England and Wales as well as in Scotland. In Ireland,Guidelines on Countering Bullying Behaviour in Post-Primary Schools was published, too.Third, there is evidence that these materials work, and that schools can achieve something. Evidence suggests that a key step is to develop a policy on bullying, saying clearly what bullying means, and giving explicit guidelines on what will be done if it occurs, what records will be kept, who will be informed and what punishments will be employed. The policy should be developed through consultation over a period of time. Pupils, parents and staff should feel they have been involved in the policy.Other actions can be taken to back up the policy. There are ways of dealing with the topic through the curriculum, using video, drama and literature. But curriculum work alone may only have short-term effects;it should be an addition to policy work. There are also ways of working with individual pupils,or in small groups.Work in the playground is important, too. One helpful step is to train lunchtime supervisors to distinguish bullying from playful fighting, and help them break up conflicts.Another possibility is to improve the playground environment,so that pupils are less likely to be led into bullying from boredom or frustration. With these developments, schools can expect that at least the most serious kinds of bullying can largely be prevented. The more effort is put in and the wider the whole school is involved, the more substantial the results are likely to be.The reduction in bullying and the consequent improvement in pupil happiness is surely a worthwhile objective.(不确定)26.A recent survey found that in British secondary schools______.A there was more bullying than had previously been the case.B there was less bullying than in primary schools.C cases of persistent bullying were very common.D indirect forms of bullying were particularly difficult to deal with.(不确定)27.Children who are bullied______.A are twice as likely to commit suicide as the average person.B find it more difficult to relate to adults.C are less likely to be violent in later life.D may have difficulty forming relationships in later life.(不确定)28.The writer thinks that the declaration'There is no bullying at this school' ______.A is no longer true in many schools.B was not in fact made by many schools.C reflected the school's lack of concern.D reflected a lack of knowledge and resources.29.What were the findings of research carried out in Norway?A Bullying declined by50%after an anti-bullying campaign.B Twenty-one schools reduced bullying as a result of an anti-bullying campaign.C Two years is the optimum length for an anti-bullying campaign.D Bullying is a less serious problem in Norway than in the UK.30.Which of the following is the most suitable title for the passage?A.Bullying:what parents can doB.Bullying:are the schools to blame?C.Bullying:the link with academic failureD.Bullying:from no way out to preventionIII. 还有一句记不清了,最后是让结合结合自己的经验例子谈一下这个问题(看待?&解决?)Over-reliance on modern technology means that people are failing to learn,or are forgetting, many basic skills.(不少于300字)。

If one’s personal values are more important than the discussion of choices and informed decision making, one might want to think about whether he or she would want those value respected by others. Social workers are expected to embrace a diversity of values and people. Learning to do this is a process which takes time and a willingness to do so.
AIn his 402nd anniversary year, Shakespeare is still rightly celebrated as a great language master and writer. But he was not the only great master of play writing to die in 1616, and he is certainly not the only writer to have left a lasting influence on theater. While less known worldwide, Tang Xianzu is considered one of Chinas greatest playwrights and is highly spoken of in that country of ancient literary and dramatic traditions.Tang was born in 1550 inLinchuan,Jiangxiprovince. Unlike Shakespeare's large body of plays, poems and sonnets (十四行诗), Tang wrote only four major plays: The Purple Hairpin, Peony Pavilion (《牡丹亭》), A Dream under the Southern bough, and Dream of Handan. The latter three were constructed around a dream narrative, a way through which Tang unlocked the emotional dimension of human desires and ambitions and explored human nature beyond the social and political limits of that time.Similar to Shakespeare, Tang's success rode the wave of a renaissance (复兴) in theater as an artistic practice. As in Shakespeare'sEngland, Tang's works became hugely popular inChinatoo. During Tang'sChina, his plays were enjoyed performed, and changed. Kunqu Opera, a form of musical drama, spread from southernChinato the whole nation and became a symbol of Chinese culture. Combining northern tune and southern music, kunqu Opera was known for its poetic language, music, dance movements and gestures. Tang's works benefited greatly from the popularity of kunqu Opera, and his plays are considered classics of kunqu Opera. While Tang and Shakespeare lived in a world away from each other, there are many things they share in common, such e humanity of their drama, their heroic figures, their love for poetic language, a lasting popularity and the anniversary during which we still celebrate them.1. Why is Shakespeare mentioned in the first paragraph?A. To describe Shakespeare's anniversary.B. To introduce the existence of Tang Xianzu.C. To explain the importance of Shakespeare.D. To suggest the less popularity of Tang Xianzu.2. What's possibly one of the main theme of Tang's works?A. Social reality.B. Female dreams.C. Human emotions.D. Political environment.3. What does the author mainly tell us in Paragraph 4?A. The influence of Kunqu Opera on Tang's works.B. Tang's success in copying Shakespeare's styles.C. The way Kunqu Opera became a symbol of Chinese culture.D. Tang's popularity for his poetic language and music.BThere have been many fine films over the past several years aboutcharacters struggling with Alzheimer’s disease. But few of them have gone as deeply and frighteningly into the corners of adeterioratingmind as The Father,a powerful new drama built around a spellbinding performance from Anthony Hopkins. At this point in his long career,Hopkinswould seem to have exhausted his ability to surprise us, but his work here is nothing short of astonishing. His character, also named Anthony, is 80 years old and has dementia. At the beginning of the movie, his daughter, Anne — played by Olivia Colman — stops by hisLondonapartment to check on him. Her father's condition has taken a turn for the worse, and his temper has become severe enough to send his latest live in nurse packing. Anthony is stubborn and defiant and insists that he can manage on his own. But that's clearly not the case, given his habit of misplacing his things and his inability to remember names and faces, Anne's included. As The Father goes on, the more it becomes clear that it's his own mind that's playing tricks on him. What makes the movie so unsettling is the way it wires us directly into his subjective experience, so that the foundations of the story seem to shift at random from scene to scene. A man suddenly appears in the apartment, claiming to be Anne's husband, which is odd, since just a few moments earlier, Anne seemed to be single. Anne goes out shopping for groceries, but when she returns, she's played not by Olivia Colman but by another actress, Olivia Williams. Even the apartment itself begins to shift. You notice puzzling differences-wasn't there a lamp on that hallway table just a moment ago?The story in The Father may be complicated but it's also heartbreakingly simple: man grows old and loses his memory, and his daughter, after lifetime of love and devotion, must begin the long painful process of saying goodbye.Hopkinsshows us Anthony's struggle to keep his sense about him. It's a striking performance-and an impossible one to forget.4. What does the underlined word “deteriorating” mean in the first paragraph?A. Worsening.B. Narrowing.C. Recovering.D. Improving.5. What do we learn about the character Anthony in the movie?A. He can take care of himselfB. He drives away the nurses.C. He is easy-going and forgetful.D. He lives with his daughter all the time.6. The shift of scenes in the movie is designed to .A. build the dramatic tension in the family.B. show off the well-designed story line.C. frighten the movie-goers with mysterious plot.D. involve the viewers into thedisordered memories.7. What does the author think ofHopkins?A. He has run out of his talent.B. He is not suitable for the roleC. He masterly plays the old man.D. He presents an odd performance.CMany of us were delighted to learn that a high school senior Kwasi Enin was accepted to all eight Ivy League universities. To our surprise, he wasn't excited as expected, but appeared extra calm. He announced that he would revisit the universities to find the best suitable in music or medicine. He also wanted to compare their financial aid packages.Kwasi's success story is rare, but his reaction is not. After the admission letters arrive at home, students have 30 days to really think about what kind of school would help them grow as a person, which school would best prepare them for the future, and at which school they would be happiest. And they also have to think about whether they can afford the school they choose. But how to answer the questions about which school is the best suitable university? Some young people are attracted to large universities with great school spirit and a list of offerings. But besides those advantages, many of these universities focus on graduate work and research, with undergraduates taught mostly by part-time instructors. Others are attracted to smaller boarding schools with discussion-based classes. But some of these schools will have much limitation for students who want a high-energy city life experience. Many students today seem to think they should pick the university where they will get the diploma that willhelp them get the most highly paid job. This is a sad misunderstanding of what a college education should provide.A good college education should prepare them to overcome any difficulty andthrivein society. It helps them to form the habit of creative mind and spirit that will continue to develop far beyond their university years. So when you choose college, you should consider if it is filled with useful learning to help create new spaces for different possibilities of growth.8. What can we know about Kwasi Enin from paragraph 1?A. He was from a very poor family.B. He would choose the top university.C. He was too excited to calm himself at the good news.D. He considered his interests when choosing his university.9. What can you infer from paragraph 2?A. Few students can be admitted to university.B. Many students face the choices like Kwasi.C. Top universities are the first choice for most students.D. American students can afford their university by themselves.10. Which of the following can best explain the underlined word “thrive” in paragraph 4?A. FailB. SucceedC. ResearchD. Work11. What should the best university be like according to the text?A. Very large and have good instructors.B. Small boarding schools with discussion-based classes.C. It will offerthe diploma to get the most highly paid job.D. It will help continue to develop far beyond university years.DBrian Hamilton's life changed in a prison when he went there with his friend, Reverend Robert J.
