学习本单元有助于提高对妇女社会角色的认识,了解成功女性的奋斗经历和勇于斗争的精神,培养学生(尤其是女生)的事业心和社会责任感,建立正确的性别观和自信心。

本课时是本单元的第一课时,内容包括热身(Warming up),读前(Pre—reading),阅读(Reading)和理解(Comprehending)四个部分.其中阅读部分以“非洲野生动物保护者"为题,分别从研究工作的内容、困难和取得的成就等方面介绍了Jane Goodall在非洲原始森林中工作的情况,赞扬了她为保护野生动物所做出的贡献。
