All my friends came over and we had Transformer decorations, games, even a cakes with the Autobots on it. My uncle hired a performer to do magic tricks and balloon animals too. Ilaughed so hard that day my stomach hurt. Best birthday ever!The next weekend my dad surprised us with tickets to go to the new Marvel movie over in the city. He took me, Xiao Ming and Xiao Li on the train and we felt like such cool dudes traveling into the big city just us guys. The movie was incredible with allthe huge action scenes and crazy superpowers. I don't remember the last time I was that totally amped.A couple weeks into summer, my parents sent me to a day camp at the local university. I wasn't excited to spend weeks of my vacation at a camp at first. But then I found out we got to learn ALL sorts of awesome stuff! One week we did experiments and watched chemicals blowing up. So freakin' cool! The next week we got to write our own novels and illustrate them. Then we did math games, outdoor adventures and even coding. By the end I never wanted to leave!When I got home from camp, my cousin from far away came to stay with us for two weeks. Having him around was like having a constant sleepover buddy. We played basketball in the park every day, had tournaments on my Nintendo Switch, and just goofed around doing dumb kid stuff 24/7. No parents or teachers to nag us. It was the life!But nothing topped the best week of the entire summer - the week my family went to Hainan Island! We stayed at this incredible beach resort right on the ocean. I had never seen water so blue and clear before. We swam in the waves, played beach volleyball, and went snorkeling to see all the tropical fish. We had to imagine what superpower we would want if we could have any superpower in the world. Can you guess what I picked? That's right - the ability to fly! But I also wrote that I would use my powers for good, like rescuing people from disasters. I don't want to fight bad guys and stuff. That's too scary for me!Next up was an exercise called "Invent-a-Monster." For this one, we had to create our very own crazy monster and describe what it looks like and what kind of weird powers it might have. I decided to combine some of my favorite animals - a snake, a dragon, and a platypus. My monster was green and scaly with venomous fangs, bat-like wings, and a beak like a platypus. I called it the "Snakenipus" and gave it the power to shoot laser beams from its eyes! Doesn't that sound awesome and terrifying at the same time? I tried to make my description really detailed and vivid.The next exercise was called "My Magic Telescope." We had to pretend we had a magical telescope that could see anything, anywhere in the universe. I thought that was such a cool concept!With my magic telescope, I wrote about gazing at faraway galaxies filled with colorful swirling gases and massive stars. I described watching alien civilizations on other planets that were totally different from Earth. I even wrote about using my telescope to travel back in time and see things like gladiator fights in Rome or the building of the Egyptian pyramids. I tried to make my descriptions as rich and captivating as I could.But my absolute favorite exercise was "My Dream Adventure." For this one, we could write about any fictional adventure we wanted to go on. I decided to write a story about joining a crew of space explorers traveling through a wormhole to a whole new universe! I described boarding our sleek spaceship and feeling butterflies in my stomach as we prepared to make the jump. When we emerged in the new universe, I wrote about mind-bending planets with waterfalls of green jello, floating rock formations, and aliens riding giant caterpillars. I had so much fun letting my imagination run totally wild for this story.I really worked on trying to create funny, silly, and surprising descriptions.Mrs. Anderson loved all of my writing pieces. She said my descriptions were "charmingly imaginative and vivid." I felt so proud when she read my dream adventure story out loud to theclass. Some of the other kids' stories were super creative too. Ranjit wrote about a magical sweater that could turn him into any animal he wanted. Sophia wrote about discovering a secret underground world inhabited by Cyclops giants. I had never seen so much water in my whole life. The beaches stretched on forever, and the waves were huge! We spent a few days playing in the waves, making sandcastles, and exploring fun beach towns. We ate loads of delicious tacos, burritos, and fresh seafood. I even went swimming in the ocean and let the saltwater carry me around - it was so cool!On the drive back home, I couldn't stop thinking about everything I had seen and experienced. I knew Ohio would feel so small and boring compared to those huge mountains, canyons, and coastlines. We drove all the way out to Colorado to go hiking and camping in the Rocky Mountains. I wasn't too excited about it at first, since I thought camping would be boring. But it turned out to be a blast!The first few days we stayed in this cabin right outside Rocky Mountain National Park. We went on a bunch of awesome hikes and saw deer, elk, and even a huge black bear! The bear was pretty far away thankfully. We also went whitewater rafting one day on a raging river. Our raft flipped over at one point and weall went splashing into the freezing cold water. It was a lot of fun though once we warmed back up.Then we went deeper into the mountains to go camping in the real wilderness. We had to carry all our stuff - tents, sleeping bags, food and everything - on our backs. I got stuck carrying the camping stove and pots and pans, which really stunk. The hike in took forever and I could barely lift my backpack by the end of it.But once we set up our campsite near this pretty alpine lake, it was amazing. We were surrounded by towering, snow-capped peaks everywhere we looked. At night we built campfires, looked at the brilliant stars, and listened to the loons calling across the lake. We saw a huge moose one morning while hiking and had to slowly back away before it charged us. I was a little scared but also thought it was so cool to see such an awesome animal up close.On the way back home we stopped for a couple days in Denver. We went to a Colorado Rockies baseball game one night, which was my first time at a major league stadium. Meeting Mickey, Minnie, and the other Disney characters in person was a childhood dream come true. The fireworks show at night over Sleeping Beauty's castle was spectacular. Even my parents had a magical time!From LA, we drove out to the desert to visit the Grand Canyon. This natural wonder was breathtaking. The canyon stretched out endlessly, with its layers of red and orange rock formations. We hiked a little way down into the canyon and I felt so small compared to the massive cliffs towering all around. We also visited an exhibit about the Native American tribes whohave lived in that region for centuries. Learning about their cultures and history was really interesting.Our final stop was Las Vegas, which was certainly a contrast after the serene Grand Canyon! The bright lights, huge casino hotels, shows, and general excess of Vegas was reallyeye-opening for me. We did see an amazing magic show one night, which was my favorite part. I also loved all the different themed casino resorts, like the ones made to look like ancient Rome, Egypt, Venice, and more. It was like getting to experience attractions from all over the world in one place.After two wonderful weeks in the US, it was time to return home. That flight back allowed me to reflect on all the incredible new sights, sounds, foods, and experiences I had. From the ocean to the deserts, from different cultural attractions to the man-made wonders, it was truly an unforgettable educational adventure. I have so many amazing memories from that trip and I hope I get the chance to travel more in the future. For now though, it's back to school and studies! My name is Jamie and I'm going to tell you all about a typical day at my school. School days are pretty long for me, but I still manage to have a lot of fun with my friends and learn lots of interesting things.It all starts at 7:30am when my mom's alarm clock goes off. She comes into my room to wake me up, but I'm usually already half-awake from the noise. I don't like getting up that early, but I know I have to so I can get ready for school on time. After putting on my uniform, I head to the kitchen for breakfast. My favorite is waffles with maple syrup and a glass of orange juice.At 8:15am, my dad drives me to school. The ride takes about 15 minutes. I like looking out the window at all the buildings, cars, and people we pass along the way. Sometimes I read a book in the car too. Once we arrive at school, I say bye to my dad and meet up with my best friend Alex. We walk to class together, racing each other down the hallway. I usually win because Alex stops to say hi to everyone!The first class of the day is always math. I find it pretty difficult, especially the algebra stuff we've been learning recently.I have to concentrate really hard in that class. After an hour of math, it's time for language arts. For the rest of the lunch period, we hang out on the playground playing games like tag or just sitting and chatting about our favorite TV shows and video games.In the afternoon, we have one more academic class which rotates between art, music, computer class, and gym. I especially like art because I'm really into drawing and painting. The gym periods are fun too - we get to play sports and do physical activities to stay active and healthy.At 3:00pm, it's finally time to go home! The dismissal bell rings and all the hallways become a madhouse of kids rushing to get their backpacks and get outside. My dad is usually waiting there to pick me up. A trip filled with adventure, fun activities, and making incredible memories with my family. Well,this past summer my dream finally came true when we went on an epic two-week vacation to Hawaii!The planning process started months earlier when my parents sat me and my little brother down to discuss potential vacation spots. We threw out a bunch of ideas - California, Florida, New York City. But when Hawaii came up, everyone's eyes lit up. We had all seen pictures of the gorgeous beaches, lush green mountains, and stunning waterfalls. Hawaii seemed like the perfect destination for an unforgettable family trip.Once we decided on Hawaii, the real preparations began. My mom is pretty much a professional vacation planner at this point. She spent hours researching hotels, making an itinerary, and finding all the best things to do on each island we'd be visiting. My dad handled booking the flights and rental car. And my brother and I? Well, our main job was just getting ridiculously excited!Finally, the day arrived and we were Hawaii-bound! The second that plane took off, I felt like I was in a dream. After what felt like forever, we landed in Honolulu on the island of Oahu. Walking off the plane, I was hit with that wonderful tropical heat and could hardly believe we were actually there.Our hotel was awesome - it had this huge pool shaped like a river that looped all around. We spent our first few days just relaxing by the pool and beach. I had never seen sand and water so ridiculously perfect before. The ocean was this incredible shade of turquoise that seemed unreal.But we didn't fly all the way to Hawaii just to lounge around! We spent lots of time exploring and experiencing all that Oahu had to offer. One day we went on this awesome ridge hike that gave you panoramic views of the entire island. Another day we visited Pearl Harbor and walked onto the USS Arizona Memorial. That was a really powerful experience that helped me better understand the heroes who sacrificed everything there.We also spent a day snorkeling at Hanauma Bay. I had never tried snorkeling before so I was a little nervous at first. But as soon as I stuck my face in that crystal clear water, I was blown away by the abundance of beautiful fish and coral. We even got to swim alongside a sea turtle which was easily one of the coolest things I've ever experienced!After five fun-filled days on Oahu, we hopped on a short flight to Maui. If Oahu wasn't paradise enough, Maui might as well have been heaven! Our resort had thatched roof bungalowsright on the beach. You could literally stumble out of bed and be standing in the ocean in about 30 seconds.One of my favorite activities on Maui was the Road to Hana drive. It's basically this long, winding road along the coastline with a billion hairpin turns. My dad was white-knuckle gripping the steering wheel the whole time, but the views were just breathtaking. We stopped at these amazing black sand beaches, hiked through bamboo forests, and swam in natural pools underneath waterfalls. Seriously, it looked like something straight out of a movie!Another day we went on this unbelievable boat tour of the Molokini Crater and Turtle Town. First we got to snorkel in the crater, which is this submerged volcanic crater with the bluest water I've ever seen. Tons of fish and marine life everywhere you looked. After that, we went to this area they call Turtle Town and got to swim with about 20 massive green sea turtles. They were just drifting along, completely unfazed by all the people. It was amazing.All too soon, our vacation was coming to an end. On our last day, we spent the morning crisscrossing Maui to hit a few remaining spots we wanted to see - the Iao Valley Needle,Nakalele Blowhole, and the town of Lahaina. That afternoon it was a dreaded flight back to reality.As our family sat around the gate waiting for our boarding call, we talked about how we couldn't have possibly fit anything more into our trip. Over those two weeks we had hiked through rainforests, experienced an underwater volcano, encountered sea turtles, jumped off waterfalls, ate more shave ice than should be legal, and made more family memories than I can count.That Hawaii vacation will forever be one of the highlights of my childhood. It opened my eyes to how big and beautiful the world really is. It sparked a sense of adventure and wanderlust in me that I know will last forever. And most importantly, it brought me closer to my parents and little brother through all of those incredible shared experiences.I feel so grateful that my family was able to give me that dream vacation while I was still a kid. Those two weeks were a non-stop blast of fun, exploration, and quality family time. I already can't wait to start planning my next adventure, wherever it may take me.
