林语堂因甚为欣赏谈话风格的行文，还力主扩大散文的篇幅，但要以此来挑战古文的简洁，就缺乏为训了。
用谈话方式来作文自然是很好的，但作文毕竟不完全等同于谈话。
假设是真将那种谈话过程记录下来，也够得拉杂，更不用说话题的游移了。
梁实秋先生力主行文的简练，就要明智得多。
照应于周作人的说法，林语堂主张以自我为中心，以闲适为风格，但又格外地张扬了幽默。
幽默可为行文增添幽默，但假设过分大张旗鼓地提倡，那么本身可能成为一个幽默。
闲话笔调是散文中较为自然的言说方式。
此种笔调是用说话来交流的，心中存有一个交谈的对象，如此即可展开交流。
至于所谈的题目并未限制，照林语堂的说法，正是宇宙之大、苍蝇之微无所不谈。
不过，作家的言说仍不离心灵或性情，因而所谈的题目也是有喜恶的。
但不妨假定读者那方面也有同好，如此即可达成沟通。
此种笔调虽说有一种涵盖作用，但并不碍于各人的谈论，并非千人一面，可各有面目。
比方周作人的创作以闲适为主，从而讲求所谓生活的艺术。

有一种误解是学者们所特有的，就是把考据和批评当作欣赏。
②拿我在国外大学读的莎士比亚这门功课来说。
英国的教授整年地讲“版本的批评”；莎士比亚的某部剧本在哪一年印第一次“四折本”，哪一年印第一次“对折本”，各有几次翻印，某一个字在第一次“四折本”怎样写，后来在“对折本”里又改成什么样，……自然他们不仅讲这一样，对来源和作者生平也很重视：莎士比亚大概读过些什么书？《哈姆雷特》是根据哪些书写的？他和戏院和同行的关系如何？《哈姆雷特》是不是作者现身说法？……为了解决这些问题，学者们个个埋头于灰封虫咬的故纸堆中，寻到片纸只字就以为至宝。
③这些功夫都属于中国人说的“考据学”。
这门课的教授只做这种功夫，对我们也只讲他研究的那一套。
至于学生能否欣赏剧本本身，他并不过问。

欣赏之前要有了解。

但就了解说，这些历史的知识却非常重要。
要了解《洛神赋》，就不能不知道曹植和甄后的关系；要了解《饮酒》诗，就不能不先考定原本中到底是“悠然望南山”还是“悠然见南山”。
⑤但若只了解而不能欣赏，则没有走进文艺的领域。
通常富于考据病的学者难免犯两种错误。
第一种错误是穿凿附会。
他们以为作者字字有来历，便拉史实来附会它。
他们不知道艺术是创造的，虽然可以受史实的影哈，却不必完全受其支配。
第二种错误是因考据而忘欣赏。
他们好比食品化学专家，把一席菜的来源、成分以及烹调方法研究得有条有理之后，便袖手旁观，不肯染指。
而我是饕餮汉，对于考据家的苦心孤诣虽十二分的敬佩、感激，但我以为，最要紧的事还是伸箸把菜取到口里来咀嚼，领略领略它的滋味。

心脏每天跳动10万次，一年跳动3600万次以上。
它可靠地为人体的每个器官提供氧和能量。
每收缩一次，心脏就把血液注入由动脉、静脉和肌肉与脏中毛细血管组成的总长达14万公里的网络。
人体组织从直径只有百分之一毫米的分支血管获取氧及养分并排出二氧化碳和新代物。
人体频繁进行这种物质交换的部位，其面积达300～500平方米。
心血管循环系统在其中的一小部分（位于心室）特别敏感，心脏由此获得自身需要的氧和能量。
心脏这块有力、甚至是最强劲的肌肉，需要不停地获得养分；供给中断会引发常见的心脏病变。
典型病理过程是：心脏动脉血管产生血块，血块越来越大，形成血栓，血栓阻塞血管并截断肌肉获得至关重要的养分。
在最坏的情况下，血栓会使心脏在无力地跳动几下后永远停顿。
这就是心脏这个在其它方面构造完美的器官的弱点：尽管心脏有自主的刺激机制，它的跳动可以不受人脑控制，还有特别大的肌肉细胞，这些细胞有许多把养料转化成能量的“发电站（线粒体）”，但进化并未赐予心脏一套应急供电设备。
因此，心脏的命运取决于血液循环系统组成的易受影响的“电网”。
心血管循环系统疾病是目前除癌症以外最危险的致命疾病。
心脏病发作、中风、血栓形成——没有其它死因像心血管循环系统损伤那样在德国夺走了如此多的生命。
德国今年约有近40万人死于心血管循环系统疾病，几乎占全部死亡病例的一半。
心性死亡是从天而降的吗?它是让人无可奈何的厄运吗?绝对不是!德国心脏病学协会理事赖纳·迪茨等专家断言。
