It is quite understandable for parents to send their children to study overseas because they place high expectations on their children. Companies and institutions at home are giving more and more emphasis on overseas experiences, too. Thus, pursuing overseas study became a kind of short cut in gaining a better future. But not all families can afford the huge cost for their children’s ov erseas study, especially for the children who have to study abroad for many years. Moreover, some students may be too young to restrain themselves and are likely to commit crimes abroad. What do you think of studying abroad before finishing high school in China and when do you think is the best time for people to study abroad?1、按英语作文格式书写;2、说明核心观点并进行阐述;3、英文字数控制在400-500个单词;4、没有统一答案,请勿抄袭。

高一英语时文悦读第四期AWhen we see babies o r pets, we can’t help gently touching them to show ourlove. And they give us happy feelings back. But a recent study shows that it’s different for plants.to beA study, published in The Plant Journal, shows that plants don’t “like” because t ouching changes t heir genes (基因) and, even worse, can touched. That’sslow their growth.Professor Jim Whelan of the La Trobe Institute in Australia gave an explanation. “The lightest touch from a human, animal, insect, or eve n plants touching each otherin the wind, leads to a huge gene(基因)change in the plant,” Science Daily reported. In order to test the theory, the scientists did an experiment on plants. They grewa number of plants to the age of four weeks. Then they touched them with a paintbrush every 12 hours over a 36-hour period. They found that as a response t o the touch, the mitochondria (线粒体) in theplants had been partly destroyed. The mitochondria, as Science Alert noted, are the “powerhouse of the cell (细胞)”. The mitochondria produce energy for the rest of thecell in both animals and plants. If this “powerhouse” is weakened, the plants will lose a large amount of energy that should have supported their growth.Whelan further explained to Science Daily, “If t he touching is repeated, thenplant growth is reduced by up to 30 percent.”Although the process does have a strong effect on plants, usually the plants survive. Touching changes the plants, but it’s not necessarily a bad change.According to Science Alert, frequent touching or moving plants will make themgrow shorter than other ones. The researchers believe this change, in some way, could be helpful. It may helpplants fight threats to their health such as insects and bad weather. The new research findings have led to a deeper understanding of the plants’ response to touching. And the research might “open up new ways to reduceScience Alert sensitivity (敏感性) and optimize (优化) growth in the future”,reported.1. Why did the scientists do the experiment?A. To find out why some plants grow more slowly than others.B. To test if touching can change the genes of plants.C. To show that plants’ and animals’ genes are different.D. To explain why touching has different effects on plants and animals.2. What did the scientists find in their experiment?A. Repeated touching shortened the plants’ life by four weeks.B. Mitochondria in the plants couldn’t produce energy because of touching.C. Touching slowed down plant growth by reducing energy for growth.D. Repeated touching made plants die sooner than they were expected to.3. What do the scientists think when plants become shorter because of touching?A. They may become better at fighting threats.B. They may be more easily harmed by bad weather.C. They may be more likely to be attacked by insects.D. They may become less sensitive to touching later.BRecently, Whitewater Middle Schoolstudents in the US looked at 200 pounds(90.7 kg) of food. In January, the discovery of new fast radio bursts (FRBs, 快速射电暴) from deep space got many to ask it again.According to Mirror, a Canadian-led team of scientists found 13 FRBs with the help of a radio telescope(望远镜).First discovered in 2007, FRBs are short bursts of radio waves coming from far outside the Milky Way (银河). Scientists have found over 60 FRBs so far. They last only a few milliseconds (毫秒) but release the same energy as the sun gives off in a day, CNN reported.Among the 13 FRBs, a very unusual repeating signal was found, which came six times from the same location about 1.5 billion light-years away, CNN reported. Such an event has only been reported once before, back in 2012. It may help scientists understand where FRBs are from and what causes them.More importantly, the new FRBs were recorded at unusually low radio frequencies. Most of those previously(先前地)found have had frequencies (频率) of around 1,400 megahertz (MHz), but new bursts are found at even 400 MHz -the lowest frequency the telescope can discover.According to the BBC, the low frequency means that the sources (来源) of the bursts have changed. It also suggests humans can learn more about the environmentwhere the bursts come from.Avid Loeb, a professor from Harvard University, believes the radio waves maybe evidence of alien technology. They may be “leakage (泄露) from a huge,Loeb told The Independent. And even somelight-powered ship deep in space,” Chinese internet users joked we shouldn’t respond to them. However, most researchers believe t hat FRBs are formed due to(由于)thedeath of a star or the merging (合并) of two black holes.“Science isn’t a matter of belief, it’s a matter of evidence,” claim So only more advanced technology and more collected data will reveal (揭露)the truth about FRBs. Time will be the judge.12. What can we learn about FRBs from the article?A. They were first discovered in January.B. They come from somewhere in the Milky Way.C. They often last several seconds.D. The world's second-largest economy was followed by Vietnam (77), the United Arab Emirates (59) and India (59), in a list which saw Asian countries and regions take the top spots. New Zealand (56), which has received international acclaim for its handling of the virus and last week began easing restrictions, was the only Western country to score higher than the global average of 45. Australia (43), the US (41), and all four western European countries surveyed - Germany (41), the UK (37), Italy (36) and France (26) - all ranked below the global average. The largely dissatisfactory response, from Western countries in particular, could reflect a hit to national psyches in terms of their expectations about preparedness for unexpected events, noted David Black, founder and chief executive officer of Blackbox Research."For many of these countries and regions, this pandemic is unprecedented. Governments are still coming to terms with a crisis they did not expect, and public confidence suffered as a result," said Black."Meanwhile, a significant part of Asia has had their leadership shaped by past epidemics, such as SARS and MERS," referring to two other deadly respiratory diseases caused by strains of coronavirus that were predominantly in Asia and the Middle East, respectively.8. How many countries and regions were people surveyed from?A. 20B. 21C. 22D. 239. Which country ranked the first in the citizen's survey?A. ChinaB. VietnamC. IndiaD. New Zealand.10. New Zealand.DWith terms such as WFH, social distancing and self-isolation now in common ideams, the Oxford English Dictionary has made an extraordinary update to include Covid-19 and words related to the pandemic in its definitive record of the English language. The dictionary's executive editor Bernadette Paton said that it was "a rare experience for lexicographers(词典编纂者)to observe an exponential(指数的)rise in usage of a single word in a very short period of time, and for that word to come overwhelmingly to dominate global expressions, even to the exclusion of most other topics".Covid-19 has done that, and has thus been added as a new entry in the OED, where it is described as "an acute respiratory illness in humans caused by a coronavirus, which is capable of producing severe symptoms and death, esp. in the elderly and others with underlying health conditions"."As something of a departure, this update comes outside of our usual quarterlypublication cycle," said Paton. "But these are extraordinary times, and OED lexicographers, who like many others are all working from home ... are tracking the development of the language of the pandemic and offering a linguistic and historical context to their usage."The OED's analysis of more than 8bn words of online news stories found that coronavirus and Covid-19, a shortening of coronavirus disease 2019, are now dominating global discourse. While back in December, words such as Brexit, impeachment and climate dominated news, by January, coronavirus was seeing significant use alongside current affairs terms such as bushfire, koala, Iraqi, locust and assassination. By March every single word in the OED's top 20 list of keywords was related to coronavirus."In January, the words mainly relate to naming and describing the virus: coronavirus, SARS, virus, human-to-human, respiratory, flu-like," said the OED in an analysis. "By March, the keywords reflect the social impact of the virus, and issues surrounding the medical response: social distancing, self-isolation and self-quarantine, lockdown, non-essential (as in non-essential travel), and postpone are all especially frequent, as are PPE and ventilator."The OED's lexicographers have noticed a rise in the use of specialist medical terms and new acronyms, such as WFH and PPE. The first noted usage of working from home was in 1995, but Paton notes that "the abbreviation was known to very few before it became a way of life for so many of us". The abbreviation PPE, for personal protective equipment, dates back to 1977 but was "formerly probably restricted to healthcare and emergency professionals".Social distancing, first used in 1957, "was originally an attitude rather than a physical term, referring to an aloofness or a deliberate attempt to distance oneself from others socially. Now we all understand it as keeping a physical distance between ourselves and others to avoid infection," wrote Paton."It is a consistent theme of lexicography that great social change brings great linguistic change, and that has never been truer than in this current global crisis," wrote Paton.12. What does the underlined word 'that' mean in paragraphs 3?A. The usage of Covid-19 rises sharply in a very short time.B. A strange word appears.C. Other topics are not liked.D. The Covid-19 surprised the lexicographers.13. When was every single word in OED's top 20 list of keywords related to coronavirus?A. By MarchB. By January.C. In December.D. In February.14. When was social distancing first used?A.1957B.1977C. 1995D. 201915. What's the main idea of the passage?A. The usage of Covid-19 and words related to the pandemic has risen recently.B. The study on Covid-19 and words related to the pandemic.C. The Oxford English dictionary has made a study on popular words.D. It was replaced when Confucius’ classics were politically adopted.Confucius ruled education for an even longer period: two thousand years, right up to very recent times.•During this entire 3500 year long period, it is estimated that only 1% of each generation of Chines e people received this “higher” education1842: Acknowledgement that China needed western science and technology•1905 -98 years ago -The then governing QingDynasty dismantled the system of civil service exams and inaugurated the current system of primary, secondary and tertiary levels of education, similar in some ways to western models.1921: Communist Party modified the new system in an attempt to preserve Chinese identity and culture.•But, hardly had these modifications begun when the Japanese invaded and everything came to stop until 1949.1949: Mao imported the Soviet Russian model of education: •This brought the development of higher education:.•New polytechnic and comprehensive universities•Teacher training colleges. But once again the process was interrupted, this time by the cultural revolution. In 1976, it was estimated that even after so many radical changes to the system, the number of Chinese citizens enrolled in higher education was still 1%, approximately what it had been 3500 years earlier. The search was on for other more flexible ways of educating the masses, who after 3500 years of Chinese history, were still for the most part excluded from education and training.1985: The “Decision of the Reform of the Education System”•This established the university and technical college systems.•It also granted some autonomy to some universities.•1995: The Education Law of the People's Republic of China•This was a commitment to universal education. The proposed revitalization of the Chinese economy in 1976 required millions of trained and skilled workers. Once again distance education became the vehicle of choice.•In western nations, television-based courses and programs were often delivered to fairly small audiences. But in China, television-based courses were to be delivered to the masses. No-frills, black and white, talking head television grew rapidly as a skills training device. How to Compare Online CollegesComparing online colleges can be a chall enge. You may know the type of program you’re looking for, but narrowing your list of potential programs can be difficult. The five considerations below can help you compare online colleges based on what each school offers. Before enrolling in a virtual program, make a list of possible schools and see how they measure up.1. Compare Online College AccreditationAccreditation is the most important factor to consider when comparing online colleges. If you attend a school with regional accreditation, you may have an easier time finding jobs, transferring your credits to other schools, and using your degree to apply for graduate programs. Online schools with DETC Accreditation are also accepted by many schools and employers.2. Compare Online College Residency RequirementsSome online colleges require students to spend several semesters attending physical classes on campus. Others require weekend seminars or summertime forums. Some programs allow students to earn degrees entirely through the internet, without ever stepping foot at a brick-and-mortar school. When comparing online colleges, look for residency requirements that fit your lifestyle. Don’t forget to take your proximity to each college into consideration – a weekend course at a local school is much easier to attend than one two states away.3. Compare Online Class SchedulesAnother important aspect to compare is course scheduling. Depending on the college you select, you may be allowed to complete courses at your own pace, you may have to meet strict deadlines, or you may need to log on at a certain time each week for real-time learning. When comparing schedules, try to determine how you learn best. Some students have enough motivation to complete coursework without any steadfast deadlines, others prefer the structure of set class times.4. Compare Online College TestingAlmost all online colleges require students to complete course exams. But, each program will have its own testing requirements. Some mandate that students take all exams at a proctored testing center. Others allow most tests to be completed online, with open-book allowances. When comparing online colleges, consider how you prefer to take your exams. If proctored exams are required, don’t forget to think about your proximity to testing centers or the school’s brick-and-mortar campus.5. Compare Online College Admissions RequirementsThere is a huge variation in online college admissions requirements. Some colleges have a lengthy application process including essays, recommendation letters, and interviews. Other colleges accept all applicants and allow students to begin courses within a week. Compare schools based on your ability to meet admissions requirements and your desired start date.6. More Ways to Compare Online CollegesIn addition to considering the above factors, make your own list of school preferences. This list of questions to ask potential schools can also help you make a smart decision.。
