7AUnit5 Going shopping (Reading I) Analysis of the teaching materials
The Reading text involves two conversations about shopping.
Teaching aims
1.To make sure different presents are suitable for different people.
2.To guess the meaning of the new words by looking at the pictures.
3.To identify general information about shopping from the reading
conversation.
Teaching difficulties and focuses
1.To know the information exactly from the reading conversation.
2.To use the conversation in the specific context.

Teaching procedures
Step1 Lead in
Exchange their experience of shopping once, and ask the students to act out their experience of the class, and try to find some useful expressions in shopping. Can you help me ?/What can I help you ?/What can I do for you ?/What are you looking for ?How much does it cost? Encourage students to useful expressions freely.
Step2 Talking
Show shopping scenes to the students to watch and ask students to talk about the shoppers.Any sentences are allowed to be spoken if it is about the shopping.

Step3 Presenting
Show the picture on page 76 to the students, ask students:
1.Where is Amy? In the shop.
2.What is she doing? She is looking for presents.
3.What presents is she looking for? She is looking for some football cards and
stickers of Huanghe Football Team.
4.How much does Amy spend on the stickers? 10 yuan.
5.How does Amy buy for Sandy? Hair clips.
Step4 Skimming
Ask students to skim the conversations in their own and underline any words they do not know. Encourage them to guess the meanings of these words from the contexts Example expensive, shopkeeper, discount, just a minute, cost, pretty, enough.
Step5 Discussion
Topic for the students to discuss: What is Amy looking at? Form students into groups of four and ask one of them to draw the pictures while the others describe the things that Amy is looking at. Then ask him or her to present his or her pictures in front of the class and give the English description.
Step6 Listing
Ask students to draw a table in their books and tell students to write down all the items Amy looked at and list their cost. Ask for volunteers to draw the tables on the
Students are encouraged to listen to the tape without looking at books and ask the students to remember the key sentences of the conversations.
Step8 Acting
Ask students to prepare in pairs and try to act out the conversation in the specific context, the teacher walks around the class to guide their performance while the students are acting.
Summarize and ponder
This period contains tow conversations about going shopping. In this period students are encouraged to remember some key sentences about the shopping and also learn to guess the meaning of the new words while reading. It can help students improve their reading skills and students are also encouraged to interact with others after learning the conversations.。
