It is common and usual to see people freak out when they face challenges in their life. We all pass in different life problems and challenges. No one is free of life problems. Only a dead man faces no problem. As long as you are alive, challenges are everywhere.
How do you face problems and challenges in your life? Problems and challenges are the building blocks of your personality. They make you who you are. Besides, whether what happened in your life builds or destructs you depends on how you look at it. If you take your problems as troubles, they will be troubles and may cause destruction. If you take them as constructive tools, you are going to be built up on them.
Problems are everywhere. No one can avoid them. And they are good too. They open up a different look and opportunity if you are willing to see. When you face troubles, do not frustrate or freak out. Just cool yourself to think in a different direction. Think in a positive way. Every problem has its own good as well as bad sides. Focus on the good one. Look at the bright side.
Besides, there is always a good person, perhaps your mom or dad, or one of your friends, right beside you who can turn everything in to your best if you are willing to turn to them. No matter what happens, they will be there to help you. Trust them and they will never let you down. All you need to know is that you are loved wherever you are.

For most people, graduation is an exciting day – the culmination (顶点) of years of hard work. My graduation day... was not.
I remember that weekend two years ago, Family and friends had traveled far to watch our class walk across the stage. But like everyone else in my graduating class, I had watched the economy go from bad to worse during my senior year. We graduates had degrees, but very limited prospects (前景). I hadn’t secured a job, and I knew that the next day, when my lease (租约) ended, I would no longer have a place to call home.
The wee ks ahead weren’t easy. I gathered up everything I couldn’t carry and put it into storage. Then, because I had no opportunities in my small university town, I packed up my car and drove to California to find work. But what I thought would take
a week dragged into two, then four, and 100 jo
b applications later, I found myself still jobless. The due date to begin paying back my student loans was creeping even closer.
Have you ever felt utter dread? That feeling became a constant in my life. The most frustr ating part was no matter how much I tried, I just couldn’t seem to make any progress.
So what did I do to maintain my sanity? I wrote. Something about putting my words on a page made everything clearer. Something about writing gave me hope.
I channeled m y frustration into a children’s book. Beyond the river was the story of an unlikely hero, a little fish who refused to give up.
And then one day, with no writing degree or contacts in the writing world – just hard work and perseverance – I was offered a publishing contract for my first book. After that, things were in place, I was offered a second book deal. Then, a few months later, I got an interview with the Walt Disney Company and was hired shortly after.
The moral of this story is… don’t give up, eve n if things look bleak now. Two years ago I was drinking cold soup right out the can. Things change. All we need is the courage to push beyond the river.

D. After he got hired by the Walt Disney Company.
57. What is the main message the story intends to convey?
A. Opportunity lies everywhere.

D
For a long time being happy was considered something that just happened, and there was nothing special to do about it. Now we know that getting along with ourselves and with other people is something that we can work at. It is possible to act in such a way that other people will like us better. One way is being unselfish, not wanting everything our own way or demanding the best share of everything, including the attention of our friends. Another way is to look for good points, not bad ones in other people. It is surprising how successful this treasure hunt can be.
You don’t have to be spineless (懦弱) in order to be popular. In fact, you will be liked and respected if you are not afraid to stand up for your rights. But do it
politely and pleasantly. Being friendly and polite to your own group, to older people, to strangers and especially to those who do not look important or do not interest you is one way to develop a good character.
You cannot expect to be perfect, and so you must learn not to be too unhappy when you make a mistake. Everyone makes mistakes, and no one is to be blamed unless he refuses to learn from them. Many young people become discouraged when they recognize in themselves qualities that they do not like----selfishness, laziness and other unpleasant qualities. Just remember that we all have some of these faults and have to fight against them.
At the same time, it is important to remember that, while you are probably no worse than others, chances are that you are not much better, either. The surest way to be happy is to think yourself above other people.
When something is wrong, it is good sense to try to make it right. Perhaps you don’t like a teacher or a classmate .Try to see why, and look at yourself, too, to be sure that you are not doing something to make that person dislike you. In time, things may turn out all right if you just keep trying to be pleasant and polite. If things do not turn out all right, then you will simply have to get along the best you can with the situation, without thinking too much about it. Worrying never helps in a situation you can’t change.
58.One of the two ways the author suggested for us to get along well with others is ____.
A.to draw the attention of our friends
B.to demand the best share of everything
C.to look for treasure in order to be successful
D.to pay more attention to other people’s strong points
59.The passage implies that in order to be a happy person, one should consider oneself ____.
A.no better than others
B.not the same as others
C.as having something better than others
D.as having better chances than others
60.The purpose for the writer to write the passage is to _____.
A.train you to be perfect
B.show you the way to be happy
C.tell you how to act when you dislike a person
D. teach you how to be popular among your friends
