W: I’d prefer to sit alone but I suppose this will do. Have you a menu, please?

M: It depends on which newspaper you read.

M: N ot very well. It’s hard for me to serve a ball well, but I’d love to learn.

W: Would you like to play with me this Saturday morning?

M: Certainly, I warn you I’m not very good.

W: We will see about that. Anyway, You know that practice makes perfect.

M: How about meeting at nine?

W: OK, you won’t forge t to bring an extra tennis ball, will you?

M: Of course not.

W: Hi, Steven. I’ve got some photos that I took in Australia this summer holiday.

M: Oh, great. Did you go with your family, Betty?

W: Yes, look, this is my mother walking in the woods.

M: What beautiful trees and flowers, and your mother looks so happy.

W: Yes, she is. Look at this photo. It is a huge wide sandy beach. My sister is

lying on the beach and enjoying the sun shine. She likes it very much.

M: It looks wonderful. Oh, this is you, Betty. What’s the strange animal that you

are holding.

W: I t’s a special Australian bear called Koala bear. It’s a l ovely animal that lives in trees and this is my father.

M: Why is your father wearing the earphones in this photo?

W: Well, my father likes history a lot. He is in a history museum there and listening to something interesting. That was a great day.

M: You must have a great time.

W: Did you see the accident?

M: Yes, I did. A truck hit the post over there.

W: What happened?

M: A dog ran across the road and the diver tried to avoid it.

W: And then?

M: Oh, the truck was suddenly coming towards me. It went onto sidewalk and hit the post.

W: What did you do?

M: I ran away after the dog.

W: Why did you do that? Were you afraid of the truck?

M: No. I wasn’t afraid of the truck. I was afraid of the diver.

W: Sounds interesting. Tell me the reason.

M: The diver got out of the truck and began shouting at me, for it’s my dog.

W: You mustn’t let the dog lose while crossing the road.

M: I promise I won’t.

A potato farmer was sent to prison just at the time when he should have been digging the ground for planting the new crop of potatoes. He knew that his wife would not be strong enough to do the digging by herself, but that she could manage to do the planting; and he also knew that he did not have any friends or neighbors who would be willing to do the digging for them. So he wrote a letter to his wife which said, "Please do not dig the potato field. I hid the money and the gun there." Ten days later he got a letter from his wife. It said, "I think somebody had read your letter before it got out of the prison. Someone arrived here two days ago and dug up the whole potato field. What shall I do now?" The prisoner wrote back at once, "Plant the potatoes, of course."
