The topped tar from bottom of tar column flows the shell sides of Treatment Feed Preheaters E84122B then E84122A, recovering heat from the treated topped tar leaving the treatment process. The topped tar feed then flows into the Pitch Column Heater F84103 circulating loop.

Pitch Heater Circulating Pumps P84113A/B deliver a very high throughput of topped tar through the Pitch Column Heater F84103 and circulate this material from the discharge of the heater back through its suction. It is important to note the heater throughput does not change, regardless of the quantity of treatment process feed.

Fresh feed mixed into the circulating flow at the circulating pump suction. This incoming feed tends to cool the circulating fluid, forcing additional heater firing.

The treatment process feed overflows the Pitch Column Heater F84103 circulating loop and flows to the treatment vessel that can be adjusted for a variety of residence times from about 10 minutes through to 162 minutes. Each vessel provides sufficient capacity for 81 minutes residence time at the normal process feed rate (29,813kg/h).

The treatment process product is treated topped tar which is from the Treatment Vessel Circulating Pumps P84115A/B discharge. It flows to the Creosote Column as feed under control of the level controller at Pitch Secondary Treatment Vessel T84106.

The treatment vessels T84105 and T84106 produce an overhead stream consisting of light oil vapor and non-condensable gases. This stream flows to condenser E84123 where the gases are cooled and the vapors are cooled and condensed.

The condensate flows to Condensate Receiver V84111 where the condensate is collected before being blown to storage under level control LT84133.

The gases separate from the liquid in E84123 and are vented through separator V84112 to flowing to the F84103 and existing heater as fuel.

Relief valve discharge and incident gas during production flow to flare system that will be built.
