1. I’ve just come to pick Tony up.

我只是过来接托尼。

[要点解读] pick up在本句中意为“(用车)接人”, 是一个动副短语，其中up是副词。因此，当pick up的宾语是名词时, 名词既可放在pick与up之间，也可放在up之后；但当pick up的宾语是代词时，代词只能放在pick与up之间。如: Will you please go to the school to pick up my daughter?

请你去学校接我女儿好吗?

I’ll pick you up at three.

我三点钟开车来接你。

2. Even though all of the photos are excellent, we can’t give prizes to everyone.

尽管所有的照片都很优秀，我们也不能给每个人都颁奖。

[要点解读] even though是从属连词，意为“即使……”，引导让步状语从句，一般不与并列连词but连用。如：

We’ll make a trip even though the weather is bad.

尽管天气不好，我们也要做一次旅行。

[要点解读] manage常用于manage to do sth.结构，意为“设法做到某事”,与其用法相似的有try to do sth.，意为“设法或试图做某事”，但前者强调动作的结果, 后者强调动作本身,不涉及结果。如：

We managed to get to the airport in time.

我们设法及时赶到了机场。

Wang Hong tried to catch the cat, but she failed.

王红试图抓住那只猫，但失败了。

4. A collection of photos called “The Many Faces of Our City” ... won the prize for the Most Unusual category.

[要点解读] called “The Many Faces of Our City”是过去分词短语，在句中作

定语修饰主语a collection of photos，相当于一个定语从句that is called “The Many Faces of Our City”。一般情况下，若从句是被动语态，可将“关系代词+ be动词”省略，使全句更加简洁，突出中心，这部分内容今后还会学到。如：

The trees planted last year are watered every day (= The trees that were planted last year are watered every day). 每天都有人给去年种的那些树浇水。
