The One With Ross's SandwichWritten by: Andrew Reich & Ted CohenTranscribed by: Eric Aasen509

The game is especially popular with American children and is frequently played as a party game or as a pastime. Mad Libs was invented in the 1950s by Leonard Stern and Roger Price, who published the first editions themselves. Mad Libs books are still published by Price Stern Sloan, an imprint of Penguin Group, cofounded by Roger Price and Leonard Stern.Mad Libsconsist of a book that has a short story on each page, but with many of the key words replaced with blanks. Beneath each blank is specified(v.指定) a lexical(adj.词汇的) or other category, such as noun, verb, place, or a part of the body. One player asks the other players, in turn, to contribute some word for the specified type for each blank. Finally, the completed story is read aloud. Since none of the contributors knows what context their word will be used in, the result is usually comic, surreal(adj.超现实主义的) and somewhat nonsensical(adj.荒谬的).For example,a Mad Lib might initially look like this:"One day, ________________ ______________ to New York to see the _________."(name of person)(past-tense verb) (noun)After completing the Mad Lib, it might read:"One day, Bob Gilldoff Jumped to New York to see the orange."Several imitations of Mad Libs have been created, most of them on the Internet.

5.17 The One With Rachel's Inadvertant KissRachel has an interview at Ralph Lauren, where she mistakenly kisses the interviewer (Mr. Zelner). She gets called back for a second interview, where she again mistakes Mr. Zelner's actions and chews him out(<俚>严厉责备斥责).Later, realizing her mistake, she meets with him again, straightens things out(v.澄清), and gets the job.Ross spends all his free time 'acting' in front of his window, thinking it entertains his friends.Joey tries to find a woman who keeps waving at him from Ross' building, but somehow keeps ending up at Ross' place instead.Monica obsesses about proving that she and Chandler are still a hot couple, like Phoebe and Gary.Chandler enjoys it for a while, but eventually helps Monica see that their relationship has progressed to a better level.[Scene: Central Perk, everyone is there as Rachel enters, happily.] Rachel: Good, you guys are all here!Ross: Hey! What's up?Rachel: Well, I have a job interview at Ralph Lauren tomorrow!Ralph Lauren (born Ralph Lifschitz on October 14, 1939) is an American fashion designer and business executive.Ralph Lauren was born in the New York City borough of The Bronx[n. 德系犹太人) Jewish immigrants Fraydl (Kotlar) and Frank Lifshitz, his father was a house painter. His life has many parallels(n.相似处) to Robert Denning, the interior designer. Both grew up without fashion, but went on to create and market a lifestyle of society, old money and country club style. Although neither had any exposure to this world as a child, each was able to visualize and create his dream. For Lauren this look would eventually become Polo Ralph Lauren. From a very young age, he started working after school to earn money to buy stylish, expensive suits with an earlypreference(n.偏爱优先选择) for quality over quantity. His attire soon gave him a trendy reputation among his peers. The well-known Calvin Klein, a younger contemporary(n.同时代的人) also lived in the same Bronx neighbourhood. Lauren attended the Salanter Academy Jewish Day School followed by MTA (now known as the Marsha Stern Talmudical Academy), before ultimately graduating from DeWitt Clinton High School in 1957. In MTA Lauren was known by his classmates for selling ties to his fellow students. In his Clinton yearbook he stated under his picture that he wanted to be a millionaire. Other notables who attended this school include Burt Lancaster, Robert Klein, Stan Lee, and Colin Powell. At age 16, Ralph's brother Jerry changed their last name from Lifshitz to Lauren (his brother Lenny remained a Lifshitz for many years). He went to the Baruch College where he studied Business and dropped out after two years. From 1962 to 1964, he served in the United States Army. After his discharge, in 1968, he married Ricky Low-Beer. He did not attend fashion school, but worked for Brooks Brothers as a salesman and then created the label Polo, a necktie(n.领带) business. He later purchased this name from hisinitial backer(n.支持者), Norman Hilton. Lauren's fashion empire has since grown into a billion-dollar business. In 1984 he recreated the Rhinelander Mansion, a former home of the photographer Edgar de Evia and Robert Denning, into the flagship store for Polo Ralph Lauren. This same year de Evia photographed the Lauren home atRound Hill in Jamaica for House & Garden. In the middle of the 1990s, Polo Ralph Lauren became a public company, traded on the New York Stock Exchange under the symbol RL.Ralph and his wife, Ricky, have two sons and a daughter: Andrew, David, and Dylan. David is an executive at Polo Ralph Lauren. Dylan owns and operates an upscale(adj.高消费阶层的) candy store, Dylan's Candy Bar, at 59th Street and Third Avenue in Manhattan. Ricky appeared on the television show Martha on December 6th, 2006 and stated that her son Andrew is in the "movie business".Lauren is the subject of several biographies (written by Jeffrey Trachtenberg, Michael Gross and Colin MacDowell).Lauren is also well-known as a collector of classic automobiles. His cars have won best in show at the prestigious Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance multiple times. His collection was recently displayed at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts. All: Congratulations! And you can see me! Same as yesterday, (To Monica) same as the day before.Monica: Is he doing his shark attack bit yet?shark attackJoey: Nope. Op, wait! There he goes.(We see Ross through the window and he acts like a swimmer that gets attacked by a shark, picture one of the many, many, many Jaws movies they made and you get the idea.)Jaws:are the two opposable structures of the mouth n.咽喉鬼门关/Jaws is a 1975 horror–thriller film directed by Steven Spielberg, based on Peter Benchley's best-selling novel of the same name, which was inspired in turn by the Jersey Shore Shark Attacks of 1916. In the film, the police chief of Amity Island, a summer resort town, tries to protect beachgoers from the predations of a huge great white shark by closing the beach, only to be overruled(v.驳回否决) by the town council, who want the beaches to remain open to draw a profit from tourists. After several attacks, the police chief enlists(v.征募) the help of a marine biologist and a professional shark hunter to kill the shark. The film stars Roy Scheider as police chief(n.警察局长) Martin Brody, Richard Dreyfuss as marine biologist Matt Hooper, Robert Shaw as the shark hunter Quint, Lorraine Gary as Brody's wife Ellen Brody, and Murray Hamilton as Mayor Vaughn.Jaws is regarded as a watershed(n.分水岭) film in motion picture history, the father of the summer blockbuster[n.(破坏力极大的)巨型炸弹, 一鸣惊人者] movie and one of the first "high concept" films.Due to thefilm's success in advance(adj.预先的) screenings(n.审查筛选), studio[n.(制作电影的)摄影棚] executives decided to distribute it in a much wider release than ever before. The Omen followed suit a year later in the summer of 1976, and then Star Wars one year later in 1977, cementing(v.融合) the notion for movie studios to distribute their big-release action and adventure pictures (commonly referred to as tentpole pictures) during the summer season. The unprecedented success of this film allowed Spielberg to insist upon "final cut" in every contract he signed from this point onward, effectively allowing him complete control over his own creative visions. The film was followed by three sequels, none of which Spielberg participated in: Jaws 2 (1978), Jaws 3-D (1983) and Jaws: The Revenge (1987).Joey: (waving) Very funny Ross! Very life-like and funny. Okay. (Notices that a woman is waving back.) Oh no-no-no, I wasn't waving at you lady. (She just stares at him.) (Joey sees how beautiful she is.) Whoa, maybe I was! In the 20th century developed world, sewers are usuallypipelines(n.管道) that begin with connecting pipes from buildings to one or more levels of larger underground horizontal mains(n.水平干线), which terminate at sewage treatment(v.处理) facilities. Vertical pipes, called manholes[n.(锅炉下水道供人出入检修用的)人孔检修孔], connect the mains to the surface. Sewers are generally gravity powered, though pumps may be used if necessary.Storm sewers (also storm drains) are large pipes that transport storm water runoff from streets to natural bodies of water, to avoid street flooding.

The One Where Rachel SmokesWritten by: Michael CurtisTranscribed by: Eric Aasen518
5.18 The One Where Rachel SmokesBen auditions for a soup commercial and Joey comes along to try for a part as well.Things are going great until Joey gets paired with another child and it gets competitive.Joey has a little trouble with his line, however.Rachel starts her new job at Ralph Lauren;she soon feels left out because all the decisions get made on smoking breaks, and she doesn't smoke. She tries to solve the problem by taking up the habit;it doesn't work out too well, so she convinces her co-workers to quit... but that lasts about a day.Phoebe and Monica plan a surprise birthday party for Rachel.Monica, in her usual fashion, takes over completely, leaving Phoebe in charge of only cups and ice.Phoebe decides to make the most of(v.尽量利用充分利用) it;she makes everything imaginable out of cups, and serves every kind of ice.[Scene: Central Perk, Joey, Chandler, Monica, and Phoebe are there. Ben is going to be in a TV commercial!A television advertisement or commercial (often called an advert in the United Kingdom) is a form of advertising in which goods, services, organizations, ideas, etc. are promoted via the medium of television. Most commercials are produced by an outside advertising agency(n. 电影或电视节目开始的时间) is purchased from a Media Agency or direct from the TV channel or network. In the UK television advertising is charged based on the viewing figures and the agreed cost per thousand viewers. The first television advertisement was broadcast in the United States at 14:29 on July 1, 1941, when the Bulova Watch Company paid $9 to New York City NBC affiliate WNBT (now WNBC) for a 20-second spot aired before a baseball game between the Brooklyn Dodgers and Philadelphia Phillies. It simply displayed a Bulova watch over a map of the U.S., with a voiceover of the company's slogan "America runs on Bulova time!" The vast majority of television advertisements today consist of brief advertising spots, ranging in length from a few seconds to several minutes (as well as program-length infomercials). Advertisements of this sort have been used to sell every product imaginable over the years, from household products to goods and services, to political campaigns. The effect of television advertisements upon the viewing public has been so successful and so pervasive(adj.普遍深入的) that it is considered impossible for a politician to wage a successful election campaign, in the United States, without use of television advertisingPhoebe: What are you talking about?!Ross: (sets Ben down) Well, it's not for sure but umm, we met this guy in the park who thought Ben was really cute--y'know, which he is--so umm anyhoo, he uh, he gave us his card and told us to bring him down for this commercial he's auditioning.anyhoo<俚>A corrupt[adj.(语法)误用的] of, or variation in, the pronunciation of anyhow, thus having nearly the same meaning as anyway. This guy is like the biggest commercial casting director in town! (Ross gasps) Ben takes one lousy walk in the park and gets an audition!!

【101】The One Where Monica Gets a New Roommateantique‘sNO.1 The One Where Monica Gets a New Roommate补充介绍一下Friends的官方站点,Url是/friends, 如果有什么纠纷,相信那里是最权威的地方查阅了,另外,在世博英语发现了一个用Friends学习英语的系列,大家也可以去那里看看。
或者the one where,或者the one which...
1.Chandler :So does he have a hump? A hump and a hairpiece? 有假发的驼子?2.Ross: I just feel like someone reached down my throat, grabbed my small intestine, pulled it out of my mouth and tied it around my neck..

【501】The One After Ross Says Rachel1."toe the line"means put your toe exactly on the line, and eventually this phrase means do something as prescribed, or according to rules and customs. Here, Monica want Rachel to react reasonably to Ross's slipping out her name on the alter instead of Emily. "Thread the Needle"indicates using two eyes gives you depth perception."Think outside the box."means don't let stereotypes keep you away from what could be exciting opportunities.Monica hopes that Rachel can move on and stop clinging to Ross anymore, it can lead her to nowhere.God, Monica IS a good learner in High School! In such a hot moment for her, she can still recall all these incisive comments, although Rachel apparently think nothing of these good advise.2. that's that 就这样了, 不必再多说了3.bugger face 和poopie-head, dumb ass一样,都是骂人的4.Same difference 就是“一样”的意思,这是玩笑的说法,故意说不合逻辑的词组,是一种俚语的表达方式,仅作口语【502】The One With All The Kissing1."calling the shots"好像最初是打台球时说的. I'm calling the shots". 这里, Monica是说她要Rach做什么, Rach就得照办,她是指挥.2."by the edges",哈哈. 3.Rachel: All right, you're the boss. I guess I gotta do what you tell me.Joey: Say that to him and you're golden. 的含义有:搞定,干得好(complete, good to go,alright);等于you're sooo.. sweet;很high4.it just bums me out;I was bummed too 都是让我很难过,失望的意思5.I call shotgun 我坐(汽车)前座!【503】The One Hundredth1.Fonz 是谁?
2.long shot n.1. An entry, as in a horserace, with only a slight chance of winning.2. a. A bet made at great odds.b. A venture that offers a great reward if successful but has very little chance of success.3. A photograph or a film or television shot in which the subject is shown at a relatively small scale.

【516】The One With The Cop1. 10-4 来自美国无线电用语,意思是“okay”2.I haven't dreamt about her like that since I found out about you twoish.
3. I'm in vice 肃娼组,vice,卖淫;vice squad ,[美]风化纠察队[警察]【522】The One With The Joey's Big Break1.make a fortune原意发财,因为M和R当时的姿势很暧昧,R讽刺地说要是让J和C看见,她们可就成了porn stars,porn stars当然会发财了,2.TicTacToe 智利游戏,打井。
