2019届人教版高考一轮英语:必修5-unit 4 课时训练【24】(含答案)

课时训练(二十四)Ⅰ.阅读理解AA new study of 8,000 young people in the Journal of Health and Social Behavior shows that although love can make adults live healthily and happily,it is a bad thing for young people.Puppy love (早恋) may bring stress for young people and can lead to depression(抑郁症).The study shows that girls become more depressed than boys, and younger girls are the worst of all.The possible reason for the connection between love and higher risk of depression for girls is “loss of self”.According to the study, even though boys would say “lose themselves in a romantic relationship”,this“loss of self”is much more likely to lead to depression when it happens to girls.Young girls who have romantic relationships usually like hiding their feelings and opinions. They won't tell that to their parents.Dr Marianm Kaufman,an expert on young people problems, says 15% to 20% young people will have depression during their growing.Trying romance often causes the depression. She advises kids not to jump into romance too early.During growing up,it is important for young people to build strong friendships and a strong sense of self. She also suggests the parents should stimulate their kids to keep close to their friends, attend more interesting school activities and spend enough time with family.Parents should watch for signs of depression- eating or mood changes-and if they see signs from their daughters or sons, they need to give help. The good news is that the connection between romance and depression seems to become weak with age.Love will always make us feel young, but only maturity (成熟)gives us a chance to avoid its bad side effects.1.What's the main idea of the passage?A.Puppy love may bring young people depression.B.Parents should forbid their children's love.C.Romance is a twoedged sword for adults.D.Romance is good for young people.2.Which of the following is more likely to have depression?A.Young people who have a strong sense of selfishness.B.Young boys whose parents watch for their behavior.C.Young girls who always hide their feelings andopinions.D.Careless parents whose children are deep in love.3.The underlined word in Paragraph 3 means______.A.encourage B.forbidC.expect D.force4.What can be inferred from the passage?A.Lacking love can lead young people to grow up more quickly.B.Early love makes young people keep close to their friends and parents.C.Parents should help their children to be aware of the signs of depression.D.The older a woman is,the less likely she seems to lose herself in romance.BThey can be seen more frequently than ever before on college campuses, wearing flannel(法兰绒)and thickframed glasses while listening to music. One might find them playing unusual musical i nstruments, shopping at secondhand stores or expressing themselves in other unique ways. They call themselves hipsters.Being “hip” used to mean following the latest fashion. But gradually the word has become a sign of “being cool, unique and unusual”.Hipsters value independent thinking, progressive politics,an appreciation of creativity and intelligence.Hipsters take pains and pride in not being mainstream. However, their culture has become quite trendy. This irony(讽刺)is central to their culture and offers an interesting conflict.“I do take things in the mainstream with a positive attitude,” says Ben Polson,a college student at Brown University.“But sometimes I also question what determines popularity, especially regarding music.” Polson represents many hipsters. When lessknown bands become popular, they often lose their former fan base in exchange for a new one. There is a famous hipster saying that goes,“I used to like that band before it got popular,” Polson quoted.According to Polson, bands' music changes when they go mainstream. They become less experimental, doing things just to save popularity and fans. The original elements that we were drawn to slowly disappear for the sake of popularity. Many young adults have started to view hipsters' outlook as cool and they are adopting hipsters' antimainstream culture mind to themselves. This has led to specialized brands, stores and music for the hipster consumers. But on the other hand, some such stores, including clothing labels Urban Outfitters and American Apparel, have gained mainstream popularity. This has seemingly made the antimainstream culture become weaker.“A lot of people that are selfdefined hipsters aren't really hipsters. They're just trying to act as hipsters to seem cooler,” says Amanda Leopold,a college student from Oberlin College,US.Although Leopold has many unusual tastes and seems quite individualist, she refuses to classify herself as a hipster.5.In the passage, hipsters refer to people________.A.who are fans of pop musicB.who study in different collegesC.who appear cool and unusualD.who try to attract others6.According to the author,________.A.hipsters are the pioneers of the mainstreamB.hipsters are unhappy with the mainstreamC.hipsters' culture exists mainly in music fieldD.hipsters' culture can also become popular7.What is the main idea of the seventh paragraph?A.Urban Outfitters and American Apparel are famous clothing labels.B.Hipster consumers have more specialized brands, stores and music.C.Antimainstream culture can gain mainstream popu larity.D.The culture of hipsters is becoming more and more terrible.8.When describing hipsters, the author speaks________.A.in an ironic voice B.in an objective voiceC.in an angry voice D.in a funny voiceⅡ.七选五补缺题Everyone loves a party but when you're the Most do it using satellites and other high-tech equipment. However, ocean expert Curtis Ebbesmeyer does it in a special way --- by studying movements of random floating garbage. A scientist with many years’ experience, he started this type of research in the early 1990s when he heard about hundreds of athletic shoes washing up on the shores of the northwest coast of the United States. There were so many shoes that people were setting up swap meets to try and match left and right shoes to sell or wear.Ebbesmeyer found out in his researches that the shoes — about 60,000 in total — fell into the ocean in a shipping accident. He phoned the shoe company and asked if they wanted the shoes back. As expected, the company told him that they didn't. Ebbesmeyer realized this could be a great experiment. If he learned when and where the shoes went into the water and tracked where they landed, he could learn a lot about the patterns of ocean currents. The Pacific Northwest is one of the world's best areas for beachcombing(海滩搜寻) because winds and currents join here, and as a result, there is a group of serious beachcombers in the area. Ebbesmeyer got to know a lot of them and asked for their help in collecting information about where the shoes landed. In a year he collected reliable information on 1, 600 shoes. With this data, he and a colleague were able to test and improve a computer program designed to model ocean currents, and publish the findings of their study. As the result of his work, Ebbesmeyer has become known as the scientist to call withquestions about any unusual objects found floating in the ocean. He has even started an association of beachcombers and ocean experts, with 500 subscribers from West Africa to New Zealand. They have recorded all lost objects ranging from potatoes to golf gloves.31. The underlined phrase swap meets in Paragraph 1 is closest in meaning to _____________.A. fitting roomsB. trading fairsC. business talksD. group meetings32. Ebbesmeyer phoned the shoe company to find out _____________.A. what caused the shipping accidentB. when and where the shoes went missingC. whether it was all right to use their shoesD. how much they lost in the shipping accident33. How did Ebbesmeyer prove his assumption?A. By collecting information from beachcombers.B. By studying the shoes found by beachcomber.C. By searching the web for ocean currents models.D. By researching ocean currents data in the library.34. Ebbesmeyer is most famous for ______________.A. traveling widely the coastal cities of the worldB. making records for any lost objects on the seaC. running a global currents research associationD. phoning about any doubtful objects on the sea35. What is the purpose of the author in writing this passage?A. To call people's attention to ocean pollution.B. To warn people of shipping safety in the ocean.C. To explain a unique way of studying ocean currents.D. To give tips on how to search for lost objects on the beach.第二节(共5小题,每小题2分,满分10分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。

This is false, just as is the vast majority of the other reporting that is currently taking place,” he said, according to the Atlanta Journal Constitution.A source close to the family tells USA TODAY that it's wrong to say the family is gathering to say goodbye, because the family has been there since the beginning, so nothing is any different today for them. Also, Brown is “not brain dead,” as has been reported. And, as for other stories saying that the Houston family is feuding with Bobbi Kristina's dad, Bobby Brown? Those aren't true either. They “are NOT fighting,” says our source.文章大意:本文主要讲Kristina病危,几家报社的报道都失真,一家人仍在祈祷出现奇迹。

Making the news一、阅读理解。

Nowadays more and more people are talking about genetically modified foods ( GM foods). GM foods develop from genetically modified organisms (有机体), which have had specific changes introduced into their DNA by genetic engineering techniques. These techniques are much more precise where an organism is exposed to chemicals to create a nonspecific but stable change. For many people, the hightech production raises all kinds of environmental, ethical, health and safety problems. Particularly in countries with long farming traditions, the idea seems against nature. In fact, GM foods are already very much a part of our lives. They were first put on the market in 1996. A third of the corn and more than half the cotton grown in the U. S. last year was the product of biotechnology, according to the Department of Agriculture. More than 65 million acres of genetically modified crops will be planted in the US this year. The genetic genie is out of the bottle. However, like any new product entering the food chain, GM foods must be subjected to careful testing. In wealthy countries, the debate about biotech is not so fierce by the fact that they have a large number of foods to choose from, and a supply that goes beyond the needs. In developing countries desperate to feed fastgrowing and underfed populations, the matter is simpler and much more urgent: do the benefits of biotech outweigh the risks? The statistics on population growth and hunger are disturbing. Last year the world's population reached 6 billion. The UN states that nearly800 million people around the world are unhealthy. About 400 million women of childbearing age don' t have enough iron, which means their babies are exposed to various birth defeats. As many as 100 million children suffer from vitamin A deficiency, a leading cause of blindness. How can biotech help? Genetic engineering is widely used to produce plants and animals with better nutritional values. Biotechnologists have developed genetically modified rice and they are working on other kinds of nutritionally improved crops. Biotech can also improve farming productivity in places where food shortages are caused by crop damage attributable to drought, poor soil and crop viruses.1.The passage mainly talks about________.A. the world's food problemB. the development in biotechC. the genetically modified foodsD. the way to solve food shortages2.According to the passage, GM foods________.A. will replace naturally grown foodsB. are far better than naturally grown foodsC. may help to solve the problem of poor nutritionD. can cause serious trouble in developing countries3.The underlined sentence “The genetic genie is out of the bottle.”in Paragraph 2 probablymeans that________.A.GM foods are available everywhereB. the technology in producing GM foods is advancedC. genetic technology may have uncontrollable powersD. genetic technology has come out of laboratories into markets4.What's the writer's attitude towards GM foods?A. Enthusiastic.B. Cautious.C. Disapproving.D. Unbelievable.【文章大意】本文是一篇说明文,主要介绍了转基因食品及其对人类生活的影响。

And thi s stands to reason, if you’re paying $20,000 for your trip to orbit! Strain order for tourism to reach its full potential there’s going to be a need for orbital accommodation---or space hotels. What would a space hotel actually be like to visit? Hotels in orbit will offer the services you expect from a hotel---private rooms, meals, bars. But they’ll also offer two unique experiences: impressive views---of Earth and space---and the endless entertainment of living in zero gravity---including sports and other activities that make use of this. The hotels themselves will vary greatly---from being quite simple in the early days to huge luxury structure at a later date. It’s actually surprising that as later as 1997, very few designs for space hotels were published. This is mainly because those who might be expected to design them haven’t expected launch costs to come down far enough to make them possible.Lots of people who’ve been to space have described vividly what it’s like to live in zero gravity. Don’t have plenty of time for reading? If you are interested in non-fiction books, here are good choices for you.A Room of One’s OwnThis essay by English writer Virginia Woolf is based on her several lectures given to two women’s colleges at Cambridge University in 1928. In it,Woolf describes that it’s circumstance not talent alone that allows men to be more successful at writing.Women,in other words, spend so much time cooking, cleaning, and tending to their children that they have no time left for art. To write well, therefore,a woman must have “a room of her own”. While on its surface, this essay appears to be only about writing,it is actually about wealth and class, freedom and imprisonment, and the power struggle between sexes. The Art of WarWritten by ancient Chinese military strategist Sun Zi,The Art of War is widely considered to be one of the best books about military strategy(军事战略) in human history. Consisting of 13 chapters, each dealing with a separate aspect about how to fight a war,the book has been translated into many languages and has thousands of editions. For centuries,it has been used to train military leaders for its detailed study of military strategy and effective leadership.Letter to My DaughterThis book of essays and poems by Maya Angelou,a respectable American poet,is written for “the daughter she never had”—the millions of women, both young and old,who she considers to be her “family”. From the viewpoint of a caring, older relative, this book contains lessons selected from her own life experiences, including the birth of her only child,a son,as well as the development and loss of friendship.A Brief History of TimeIf you’re short on time, then why not read about, well, the creation of time? This book, first published in 2019 from brilliant scientist and mathematician Stephen Hawking, explores mindbending questions about the creation of the universe, including if and when it will end,and if so,how. Despite its heavy subject matter,Hawking addresses these questions in a way that’s easy to understand, even for those who know little about physics.【解题导语】本文主要介绍了四本纪实类文学作品。
