Just writing about it is making me hungry!But the best part about dumplings is the dough wrapper on the outside. It's made from simple ingredients like flour, water and a little salt. But it gets rolled out paper thin and pleated together into a little purse shape to hold the filling inside. There's a special technique to folding the dough just right so the dumplings look beautiful.My grandma is a dumpling master! She can fold the most perfect dumplings in just a few seconds using a circular motion with her fingers. I've tried making them too but mine always endup looking lumpy and weird. Grandma says I'll get better with more practice though.There are different ways to cook dumplings too. You can boil them, fry them, or steam them. My favorites are the pan-fried ones where the bottoms get all crispy and golden brown. When you bite into one of those crispy bottoms...wow! Sometimes my dad will let me pour a little soy sauce into a little dish and mix it with vinegar to use as a dipping sauce. So yummy!Eating dumplings is fun too. My family has a tradition where we all gather around and fold the dumplings together while telling stories and joking around. Then we set out all the plates and everybody gets to dig in! We use our chopsticks and try to slurp up the dumplings with just one big bite without letting any of that tasty filling fall out.My little brother always makes the biggest mess eating dumplings. He stuffs like three into his mouth at once and gets sauce and filling dribbling down his chin. It's so gross but we all laugh about it. After eating, we take turns guessing how many dumplings everybody ate. I'm a dumpling eating champion so I can put away like 20 or more!Well, that's the story of my super favorite food - Chinese dumplings! Whenever my parents ask me what food I want for aspecial occasion, you already know my answer. Dumplings please! I've tried dumplings from all over the place but nothing beats my grandma's homemade ones. Her special touch and love for the family tradition is what makes them the best.If you've never tried dumplings before, I feel so sorry for you! You're really missing out. But not to worry because you can find them in lots of Chinese restaurants these days. Or even better, ask a Chinese friend if their family would be willing to teach you how to make dumplings from scratch.
