Like all children, Perry, age 9, wants friends.Once Perry tried to make a friend at his New Haven, Conn.,this year, he imitated a move that he had seen his 15-year-old brother make with his pal -- he gave another, much bigger child a playful push. The big guy's response: A punch in the face, leaving Perry with a bloody nose.In many classrooms, Perry might simply have been regarded as naughty and a troublemaker. But Barbara Giangreco, a mental-health therapist(治疗专家) who works in child-care centers and preschools, understood that what Perry wanted to do was just trying to be friendly and make friends with others. So Barbara Giangreco made efforts to work with his mother and teacher on helping him use words to reach out to other kids. Now all the adults involved agree that Perry's social skills have improved significantly. He is making friends, and while he still has conflicts with other kids sometimes, he knows how to apologize and make peace.Experts say that most teens struggle with their feelings, and the only way they can communicate is often through behavior.[写作内容]1.

I didn’t know where I was or even how far I had gone from the shore. What was worse, it began to rain and it became very cold and foggy. I rode everywhere but find my way back. It was useless for me to cry or shout for help. I was so terrified that I began to think about all kinds of horrible things. After floating on the water helpless and hopelessly for a long time, suddenly I heard someone calling my name. Soon, a big steamboat sailed to me and they pulled me up to the deck and asked me if I was hurt, I couldn’t say a word but cried out in my father’s arms.

One of the 25_________ (great) gifts a person can possess is to be able to reach past the thorns of another, and find the rose within them.Topic: Weakness and FrustrationPassage AI was blind, but I was ashamed of it if it was known. I refused to use a white stick and hated asking for help. After all, I was a teenage girl, and I couldn’t bear pe ople to look at me and think I was not like them. I must have been a terrible danger on the roads. Coming across me wandering through the traffic, motorists probably would have to step rapidly on their brakes. Apart from that, there were all sorts of disasters that used to occur on the way to and from work. One evening, I got off the bus about halfway home where I had to change buses, and as usual I ran into something, “I’m awfully sorry, “I said and stepped forward only to run into it again. When it happened a third time, I realized I had been apologizing to a lamppost. This was just one of the stupid things that constantly happened to me. So I carried on and found the bus stop, which was a request stop, where the bus wouldn’t stop unless passengers wanted to get on or off. No one else was there and I had to try to guess if the bus had arrived.Generally in this situation, because I hated showing I was blind by asking for help, I tried to guess at the sound. Sometimes I would stop a big lorry and stand there feeling stupid as it drew away. In the end, I usually managed to swallow my pride and ask someone at the stop for help. But on this particular evening no one joined me at the stop; it seemed that everyone had suddenly decided not to travel by bus. Of course I heard plenty of buses pass, or I thought I did. But because I had given up stopping them for fear of making a fool of myself, I let them all go by. I stood there alone for half an hour without stopping one. Then I gave up. I decided to walk on to the next stop.1. The girl refused to ask for help because she thought_________.A. she might be recognizedB. asking for help looked sillyC. she was normal and independentD. being fond blind was embarrassing2. After the girl got off the bus that evening, she_________.A. began to runB. hit a person as usualC. hit a lamppost by accidentD. was caught by something3. At the request stop that evening, the girl___________.A. stopped a big lorryB. stopped the wrong bus C .made no attempt to stop the busD. was not noticed by other people4. What was the problem with guessing at the sound to stop a bus?A. Other vehicles also stopped there.B. It was unreliable for making judgments.C. More lorries than buses responded to the girl.D. It took too much time for the girl to catch the bus.5. Finally the girl decided to walk to the next stop, hoping __________.A. to find people thereB. to find more buses thereC. to find the bus by herself thereD. to find people more helpful there.Summary: 以约30词概括所阅读短文的主要内容;________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________ ________________________________________________________________________________ Difficult Sentences:ing across me wandering through the traffic, motorists probably would have to step rapidlyon their brakes.2.I got off the bus about halfway home where I had to change buses, and as usual I ran intosomething3.So I carried on and found the bus stop, which was a request stop, where the bus wouldn’t stopunless passengers wanted to get on or off.Passage BIn the animal kingdom, weakness can bring about aggression in other animals. This sometimes happens with humans also. But I have found that my weakness brings out the kindness in people. I see it every day when people hold doors for me, pour cream into my coffee, or help me to put on my coat. And I have discovered that it makes them happy. From my wheelchair experience, I see the best in people, but sometimes I feel sad because those who appear independent miss the kindness I see daily. They don’t get to see this soft side of others. Often, we try every way possible to avoid showing our weakness, which includes a lot of pretending. But only when we stop pretending we’re brave or strong do we allow people to show the kindness that’s in them.Last month, when I was driving home on a busy highway, I began to feel unwell and drove more slowly than usual. People behind me began to get impatient and angry, with some speeding up alongside me, horning or even shouting at me. At that moment I decided to do something I had never done in twenty-four years of driving. I put on the car flashlights and drove on at a really low speed. No more angry shouts and no more horns! When I put on my flashlights, I was saying to the other drivers, “I have a problem here. I am weak and doing the best I can.” And everyone underst ood. Several times, I saw drivers who wanted to pass. They couldn’t get around me because of the stream of passing traffic. But instead of getting impatient and angry, they waited, knowing the driver in front of them was in some way weak.Sometimes situati ons call for us to act strong and brave even when we don’t feel that way. But those are few and far between. More often, it would be better if we don’t pretend we feel strong when we feel weak or pretend that we are brave when we’re scared.1. The author has discovered that people will feel happy when ______.A. they offer their helpB. they receive others’ helpC. they feel others’ kindnessD. they show their weakness2. The author feels sad sometimes because ______.A. he has a soft heartB. he relies much on othersC. some people pretend to be kindD. some people fail to see the kindness in others3. In this passage, the author advises us to ______.A. handle problems by ourselvesB. accept help from othersC. admit our weaknessD. show our bravery5. Suddenly she leaned forward and cried out, “There i s a goose out there!”We saw the figure of a large Canada goose, very still, its wings folded tight to its sides and its feet frozen to the ice. Then in the sky, she saw a line of swans. They flew from the top of the sky downward and at last landed on the ice. My friend was on her feet, with one unbelieving hand against her mouth. As the swans surrounded the frozen goose, she feared that the poor goose might be pecked out by those great swan bills.Unexpectedly, those bills began to work on the ice. The long necks were lifted and curved down (弯下) again and again. They went on for a long time. At last, the goose was free and standing on the ice. And the swans stood nearby watching. Then, as if the goose was crying, “I cannot fly”, four of the swans came down around it. Their powerful bills chipped off the ice stuck in its feathers. Slowly, the goose spread its wings as far as they would go. Seeing the goose could freely move its wings, the swans flew slowly into the sky. This is a true story.

Reading is a pleasure of the mind, which means that it is a little like a sport: your eagerness and knowledge and quickness make you a good reader.Reading is fun, not because the writer is telling you something, but because it makes your mind work.Your own imagination works along with the author’s or even goes beyond his.Your experience, compared with his, brings you to the same or different conclusions, and your ideas develop, as you understand his.Reading can only be fun if you expect it to be.If you concentrate on books somebody make you read, you probably won’t have fun.But if you put down a book you don’t like and try another till you find one that means something to you, and then relax with it, you will almost have a good time and if you become, as a result of reading, better, wiser, kinder, or more gentle, you won’t have suffered during the process. Unfortunately, with TV broadcasting 24 hours a day, many people have lost interest in reading.Whenever they are free and have some leisure time, they turn on the TV and watch whatever is on.It’s a pity that children today have far less interest in books than a TV set.【写作内容】:1.

I believe parents have the power to build their child’s selfesteem. They also have the power to shred it to pieces.Sure, lots of it is nature, but nurture plays a big enough role that we should take it very seriously and do our best to help our children love themselves.A person who loves himself is more capable of loving others than a person who doesn’t.A person who loves and respects himself will not allow others to abuse him. There’s not hing I want more than for my daughters to love themselves and accept themselves just the way they are. These are some of the things I try to do in order to make sure my children grow up with a positive selfimage.● Tell them you love them every day.● Hug them every day.● Don’t dismiss their dreams for the future. My oldest daughter wants to bea writer when she’s grownup. She writes beautifully, but I partly wants to tell her how hard it is to make a living as a writer—that she should write as a hobby and find a “real” job.Instead, when she talks about how she will write books for a living, I listen, smile, and tell her how happy I am that she loves to write so much and how talented I think she is.● Tell them they are perfect just the way they are.Reinforce the idea that people have a unique combination of talents and strengths and that there’s more than one way to be smart, beautiful, or successful.● Focus on their strengths and encourage them to develop those in stead of focusing on their weaknesses.● Teach them they can do anything if they really want to.Teach them not to be afraid of failure and to avoid perfectionism.I frequently point out my own mistakes and failures as a way to show my kids that I am not perfect. Nobody is perfect, and that failing at something is not the end of the world.【写作内容】1.

“See you at Open House (学校开放日) tonight, Amy,” Evelyn shouted from the school bus window. “Don’t forget to ask your mom if I can come over tomorrow!” “OK!” I called back. I wished I could feel excited about my first Open House at my new school, but I was worried. What would other kids say when they found out my parents can’t hear? And I wanted Evelyn to visit, but then she’d see how different my house was. My parents use a video phone so they can use sign language to communicate with callers. We also have a light on the wall that flashes when the phone or doorbell rings. Would Evelyn think my house was strange? That night, Dad drove us to the brightly lit school. We stopped in front of the bulletin boardin the hall. “Look at Amy’s picture!” Mom said, too loud! She does that when she’s excited, because she can’t hear herself. Some older kids turned to stare at us and I wanted to hide.I led my family into my classroom and looked around. Evelyn was not there yet. Ms. Jennings walked over to us. I introduced her to my family and explained that my parents are deaf. “Oh,” she said. “Well, how do you say welcome in sign language?” “Like this.” I swept my open right hand in toward my body, palm up. She repeated the motion. “Thank you,” Mom said, smiling. “Nice to meet you.” Ms. Jennings looked surprised. “You speak very well,” she said. In sign language, I repeated what Ms. Jennings had said in case my parents hadn’t read her lips.“Was it difficult teaching Amy to talk?” Ms. Jennings asked. “Not really,” Dad said in sign language, and I translated so Ms. Jennings understood. “She went to daycare with other hearing kids.”Some of my classmates were watching us and whispering. Then I noticed Evelyn and her mom standing by the door. “Hi, Amy,” Evelyn waved to me and approached us. “I didn’t know your parents are deaf.”

As a popular saying goes, “Every coin has two sides.”
