Christmas Day is more than a holiday

Good evening, everyone:

I am so glade to have the chance to give a speech here tonight. My topic is

: Christmas Day is more than a holiday. Nowadays, more and more Chinese people

are celebrating festivals which come from western countries, such as Christmas

day, Halloween day, and valentine day. But very few people know--- how these

festivals began and what they mean. They seemed more interested in the party or

holiday than the culture inside the festivals.

As Christmas day is coming soon---, I would like to revive the history---

of Christmas day with you.

Christmas or Christmas Day is a holiday celebrating the birth of Jesus, the

central figure of Christianity. It is traditionally celebrated on December 25 by

most Western Christian churches . Although dating to probably as early as 200

AD, the feast of Christmas did not become widespread until the Middle Ages.

Aspects of celebration may include gift-giving, Christmas trees, display of

Nativity sets, church attendance, Santa Claus myth, and family gatherings.
