Why does the earth have life while the other planets don't ?For one thing ,the earth is just the right temperature. As the third planet from the sun ,the earth seems to be just the right distance away. The planets which are closer to the sun are so hot that their surfaces bake(烘烤)in the sun. The farthest planets are cold balls. When the earth developed ——which scientists believe may have happened about 4 billion years ago ——many gases covered the earth. The gases caused the earth to be hot. But something wonderful happened. The temperature was just right for thick clouds to form. It rained very hard for a very long time. This gave the earth its oceans. Water made it possible for plants to grow. The plants created oxygen in the atmosphere. Oxygen is the gas that humans and animals breathe.Only one other planet in the solar system seems to be something like the earth. That planet is Mars (火星). Mars is smaller than the earth ,and it is quite a bit cooler. But it is not too cold for humans. On some days ,the temperatures are as low as a winter day in the northern United States. If you wore a special spacesuit ,you could walk around on Mars. You would have to bring your own air to breathe ,because the air on Mars is too thin to breathe.Mars has the largest volcano(火山) in the solar system. It is sixteen miles high. The highest volcano on the earth is five miles high. The most unexpected(未预料到的) sight on Mars is dried-up river beds. Scientists believe that Mars was once much better than itis now. Does this mean there could have been living things on Mars ?Scientists are not sure ,but there has been no sign so far.21. Which of the following is NOT the reason that the earth has life? A. The earth is just the right temperature.B. The volcanoes on the earth are lower than those on Mars.C. There is oxygen in the atmosphere of the earth.D. The earth seems to be just the right distance away from the sun.22. The underlined phrase “the third planet” in the first paragraph refers to_______. A. the Sun B. the Moon C. the EarthD. the Mars23. Which of the following about the Mars is NOT true? A. There could have been living things on Mars. B. Mars has the largest volcano in the solar system. C. There is almost no oxygen in the air on Mars.D. Mars is smaller than the earth ,and it is quite a bit cooler.BDamage to Ozone layer Gets WorseIn the middle of winter, when snow is falling in many parts of the United States, scientists have sounded a warning to people who plan to spend many hours in the sun this summer. The warning is: The sun’s summertime rays are more d angerous than once thought.A team of scientists from 80 nations recently reported to the United Nations that a layer of ozone (臭氧层) in the atmosphere, which protects humans from harmful levels of ultraviolet (紫外线) radiation, will be thinner over the United States this summer. The thinner layer allows more ultraviolet rays from the sun to reach Earth. The extra amount of ultraviolet radiation could cause an increase in the number of cases of skin cancer.Scientists first became concerned about the ozone layer in the mid-1980s when a hole was discovered in the layer above Antarctica during the winter. The hole was caused by chemicals used in refrigerators and air conditioners. When these chemicals are sent out into the atmosphere, they produce gases that destroy the ozone.Concern about the protective ozone layer rose more recently when data(数据) from satellites and ground stations showed that ozone levels were dropping over areas other than Antarctica. Low ozone levels were recorded in the spring and summer over the United States and over other populated areas in the world.Although many countries have already begun stopping the use of ozone destroying chemicals, the new findings are expected to advance the timetable for a total ban(禁止) of the chemicals.24. The scientists have observed the ozone layer ________.A. since 1980B. since last winterC. for more than 20 yearsD. for about one year25. The ozone layer in the atmosphere can ________.A. do a lot of good to human beings in many ways.B. protect humans from diseases caused by bad weather.C. do a lot of harm to human beings in the summer-time.D. protect humans from harmful levels of ultraviolet radiation.26. Scientists first found that there was a hole in the ozone layer ________.A. above Arctic during the winter in the mid-1980sB. above Antarctica during the winter in the mid-1980sC. over somewhere in the north of the equator in 1980D. over the U.S.A in the summertime in the mid-1980s27. The damage to the ozone layer was caused by ________.A. the changeable weatherB. ozone-destroying chemicalsC. chemicals from refrigeratorsD. chemicals from air conditioners四、课文语法填空(共10小题;每小题1.5分,满分15分)No one knows ___28__ (exact) how the earth began, as it ___29__ (happen) so long ago. Now they’re beginning to fill in the blanks. Not long ago, experiments showed that birds rely on the sun to guide them during daylight hours. But what about birds that fly mainly by night? Tests with artificial (人造的) stars have proved conclusively that certain night-flying birds are able to follow the stars in their long-distance flights. One such bird—a warbler(鸣禽) —had spent its lifetime in a cage and had never flown under a natural sky. Yet it showed an inborn ability to use the stars for guidance. The bird’s cage was placed under an artificial star-filled sky at migration time. The bird tried to fly in the same direction as that taken by his outdoor cousins. Any change in the direction of the make-be-live stars caused a change in the direction of his flight.Scientists think that warblers, when flying in daylight, use the sun for guidance. But the stars are apparently their principal means of navigation (导航). What do they do when the stars are hidden by clouds? Apparently, they find their way by such landmarks as mountain ranges, coast lines, and river cours es. But when it’s too dark to see these, the warblers circle helplessly, unable to get their direction.6. The reasons why birds don’t get lost on migratory flights ______ . .A. have been known to scientists for many yearsB. have only recently been discoveredC. are known by everyoneD. will probably remain a mystery7. Have three nutritious(有营养的)meals with healthy snacks every day.2.Don't eat a large amount at one time and minimize eating after the evening meal. Many overweight people don't have breakfast, miss lunch or eat very lightly, snack in the afternoon, and eat 75% or more of their daily food after 4 p.m.3.Learn serving sizes for each family member. Serve just enough food to meet their needs, especially if a family member has difficulty controlling his or her weight. Today's restaurant portions are often larger than a recommended(建议的)serving size.4.Make mealtime pleasant. Avoid arguing or complaining at the table.5.Eat in only one place in the home. This avoids snacking in front of the TV and in the bedroom. Eating while watching TV shifts attention away from the food, making it easy to overeat.6.Plan nutritious snacks ahead of time. Waiting until hunger comes to decide what snacks to eat usually results in choosing a food low in nutritional value and high in calories.7.Keep snack foods where kids can see them. Leave fresh fruit on the kitchen counter, and store other foods in see-through containers or clear plastic bags. When children come home from school hungry, they will eat almost anything in sight.8.Limit the amount of snacks. Children should not be allowed to eat all the snacks they want.31.This passage mainly ________.A.tells us why children today easily get fatB.tells us what we should not eat when we are hungryC.gives us some suggestions on how to help children become smarterD.gives us some advice on how to help children form good eating habits32.What does the writer suggest we do in Point 2?A.Eat as lightly as possible at lunch.B.Eat as little as possible after having supper.C.Make mealtime pleasant.D.Snack in the afternoon.33.We can learn from the passage that ________ .A.overweight people skip breakfast and lunch to lose weightB.children should eat as few snacks as possibleC.hungry children will not think whether the food is good for their health or notD.it's better to eat something when hunger comes than when you are not hungry34.Which of the following is NOT mentioned in the passage?A.That many fat people don't have breakfast.B.That parents should not allow their children to eat whatever they like.C.Why eating while watching TV makes it easier to overeat.D.Why it is not good to complain while eating.BEvery people uses its own special word to show its ideas and feelings. Some of these expressions are commonly used for many years.Others are popular for just a short time. One such American expression is “Where's the beef?”It is used when something is not as good as it is said to be.In the early 1980s “Where's the beef?”was one of the most popular expressions in the United States. It seemed as if everyone used it at the time.Beef,of course,is the meat from a cow,and food is more popular in America than a hamburgermade from beef.In the 1960s a businessman named Ray began building small restaurants that sold hamburgers at a low price.Ray called this“McDonald's”.Ray became one of the richest businessmen at last in America.Other business people watched his success. Some of them opened their own hamburger restaurants. One company called“Wendy's”said its hamburgers were bigger than those sold by McDonald's or anyone else. The Wendy's Company began to use the expression “Where's the beef?”to make people know that Wendy's hamburgers were the biggest. The Wendy's television advertisement showed three old women eating hamburgers. The bread that covered the meat was very big,but inside there was only a bit of meat. One of the women said she would not eat a hamburger with such a little piece of beef.“Where's the beef?”she shouted in a funny way.The advertisement for Wendy's hamburger restaurants was a success. As we said,it seemed everyone began using the expression“Where's the beef?”.35.________started McDonald's restaurant.A.Ray B.McDonaldC.Wendy D.Three old women36.Other people wanted to open hamburger restaurants because they thought________.A.they could sell hamburgers at a low priceB.hamburgers were easy to makeC.beef was very popular in AmericaD.they could make a lot of money37.Wendy's made the expression known to everybody________.A.with many old women eating hamburgersB.by a television advertisementC.while selling bread with a bit of meat in itD.at the McDonald's restaurant38.We can learn from the passage that the expression“Where's the beef?”means________.A.the beef in hamburgers is not as much as it is said to beB.the hamburgers are not as good as they are said to beC.it is used when something is not as good as it is said to beD.Wendy's is the biggestCMost of the movies show our relationships(关系)and our society. What's more important is that people love to watch highs and lows of the relationships in movies.Friendship has been the favorite subject of movie makers for a long time. Many movies are based on(以……做基础)lovely relationships like friendship.Friendship can be between two persons or among more than two persons.Movies based on friendship make us remember that the relationship among friends is delicate(需要小心处理的).These movies also show how important it is to have a true friend in life and to own the friendship.Friendship is described in different ways in movies. These movies show different faces of this lovely relationship including the pleasant and interesting faces.Let us discuss how friendship is depicted in movies.Friends share common interests:In most of the movies,it is shown that two people become friends easily when they share some common interests. For example, two friends may be in love of the same sports, studying in the same school or living in the same neighborhood. You can see such friendship in movies such as Harry Potter and Lord of Rings.Harry Potter has two friends. All of them are interested in the use of magic.Friends make sacrifices(牺牲):In most of the movies, friends make sacrifices for each other.A good example is Sholay. In this movie, there are two friends Jay wood, crop waste, animal waste or coal. These fuels may be the least costly fuels. But they are also a major cause of health problems and death. For more than thirty years, the Aprovecho Research Center has been designing cleaner,low-cost cooking stoves (火炉) for the developing world.Dean Still is the director of the group which is based in the United States. He notes that more than one and a half million people a year die from breathing smoke from fuels.“And half of the people every day use wood for cooking. These are the people who have less money.Wood is running out more quickly than oil and gas.So it is very important for the poorer people to have very efficient (高效能的) stoves that protect (保护) the forests and that protect their health,”said Dean Still.Every year Aprovecho holds a “stove camp”at its testing station in Cottage Grove,Oregon.Engineers, inventors, students and others come together to design and test different ways and materials for improving stoves. In the late 1970s,Aprovecho produced a popular stove called the Lorena. The Lorena was very good at reducing(减少)smoke and warming homes. But new tests years later found that it was not very efficient. The Lorena used twice as much wood as an open fire, and needed much longer time to heat food.Aprovecho has now partnered with a stove manufacturer in China. The company is making Aprovecho's new stoves. They are said to use forty to fifty percent less wood than an open fire, and produce fifty to seventy-five percent less smoke.A company called Stove Tec is selling them through its website for less than ten dollars.Dean Still says that more than one hundred thousand have been sold so far.42.The first paragraph tells us that ________.A.South Africa, India and China are heavily forestedB.lots of people are in danger of indoor air pollutionC.people shouldn't use wood or crop waste to cookD.lots of people cannot afford environment-friendly fuels43.What is the disadvantage of the Lorena?A.It wastes more fuels.B.It produces less heat.C.The price is too high.D.It is an old style stove.44.The underlined word “manufacturer” in the last paragraph refers to ________.A.designer B.researcherC.seller D.maker45.From the passage we can infer that ________.A.Dean Still does his research in ChinaB.Aprovecho's stoves are too expensiveC.the Lorena can't help to protect people's healthD.Aprovecho has made progress in making stovesEThe zebra belongs to the horse family. One of nature's great mysteries is why the zebra has stripes. One theory is that the stripes help the zebra cool down.On hot days the black stripes get a lot hotter than the white area of the zebra and under the black stripes there are special layers of fat for protection.Hot air then rises off the black stripes, forcing colder air down around the white areas, cooling the zebra down. This, however,is just a kind of theory. The stripes can also confuse predators(食肉动物,掠夺者)when zebras stay with other animals in great numbers.Zebras have excellent hearing and eyesight and can run at speeds of up to 56 kilometers per hour. They also have a powerful kick that can cause serious injury to a predator, like a lion,or an African wild ually the lead male of the herd stays at the back of the group to defend against predators if necessary, while the females and youngsters escape danger.Zebras are herbivores that feed only on plants and live mostly by eating grasses, although they also might eat a bit of the leaves and stems(茎)of bushes. They eat grasses for many hours each day, using their strong teeth.Spending so much time chewing wears the zebras' teeth down,so their teeth keep growing all their lives. As the dry season arrives and the grasses die back, zebra herds travel to find more food and water holes for drinking. Most zebras have no specific territories. They travel from place to place, never staying in one area very long.46.It can be inferred from the first paragraph that________.A.there are different opinions about why the zebra has stripesB.the black stripes help the zebra live through cold daysC.the zebra can be easily attacked by predatorsD.the zebra always travels with other animals47.According to the passage, herbivores are animals that ________.A.have specific territoriesB.only eat plantsC.kill and eat other animalsD.live in groups48.The zebra has strong teeth all their lives because their teeth ________.A.only chew soft grasses B.are used all dayC.are always growing D.are kept clean49.Which of the following statements about zebras is TRUE?A.They have poor eyesight and hearing.B.A lion can get injured by a zebra's kick.C.They can run 56 miles per hour.D.They usually stay in one area all their lives.50.Which of the following TV programs might the passage be adapted(改编)for?A.Hobbies & Leisure B.Everyday When they are at home they enjoy reading, watching television, creating art objects, playing computer games and so on.The most popular activity, however,is done outside. For the past 15 years, gardening has been the most popular outdoor activity in America.A new study was done by Organic Gardening Magazine. It says more than 78 million Americans are gardeners. This is more than 40 percent of the adult(成年的)population. The new study says that during the growing season:an average gardener spends 3or 4hours a week working in the garden digging, cutting, and planting and watering. They also spend money on their gardens .Each year American gardeners spend about 25 billion dollars buying seeds, plants, bushes and trees, and plant food to make their plants grow bigger. They also buy tools and even special clothes for working in the garden. Why are more and more Americans becoming fond of gardening? Most people do it for fun.Gardening makes their home more beautiful and makes them feel closer to nature.Gardening is also a good way to get exercise and working outside in the fresh air and sunshine can reduce stress (压力).T o some people, gardening is a spiritual(精神上的)activity. You plant seeds in the ground and water them. They grow into flowers and most of them die in autumn. But some will come back again the next spring, and every year after that. Most Americans grow more than flowers in their garden. They grow fruits, vegetables and herbs(药草).They grow food crops at home for many reasons. Some say it is satisfying to provide their own food like their ancestors(祖先)who lived on farms. Some say they can save money.Others say they want to have the freshest vegetables all summer long. Not everyone in the United States owns land for a garden.Yet gardening is a popular activity for them, too. They may also grow flowers in containers on a balcony(阳台)high above the street or grow herbs in little boxes in a window. They may also join a community(社会团体)garden.Usually, the local(当地的)government owns the land where the community garden is planted. It could be next to an apartment(公寓)building or in a park. The land is divided into small gardens. In this way, more people get the chance to grow things, even if they do not own land of their own.Judge the following sentences True(T)or False(F).1.About 40 percent of Americans like gardening.2.Many people do gardening in order to make some money.3.Some Americans grow food crops at home because their ancestors used to tell them to do this.4.Those who do not have a garden can only grow some small plants in containers on their balconies or in the boxes in a window.5.We can infer from the passage that the American government helps the gardeners in many different ways.(B)During the last Spring Festival 2,000 boxes of American oranges were shipped to Shanghai and sold out within two hours.Though no exact figures are available to show howseriously Chinese agriculture is affected by the WTO,the extent of the hardship imposed can be judged from Henan, where there is a grain reserve of 30 million tons—double its storage capacity.Lin Zuoji,a researcher at the Henan Provincial Academy of Agricultural Sciences, has described the effect of the WTO on Chinese agriculture as instant. He said that in the past a large amount of Henan's grain was sold to coastal areas, but as soon as China entered the WTO,enterprises in coastal areas began to import grain directly from abroad. It has been pointed out in the foreign media that China's 900 million farmers will be the most affected by the country's entry into the WTO.To extricate Chinese farmers from this difficult situation, some large agricultural provinces, including Henan, have started to encourage farmers to grow high-quality wheat and to help them adjust their farming structure. The Yantai municipal government in Shandong Province has for the past four years invested over 50 million Yuan each year into new breed research and development.Mr.Li says that for the time being the Agricultural Agreement permits the operation of“yellow boxes”and“green boxes”policies in China, which provides breathing space for the development of Chinese agriculture. During the Fifth Session of the Ninth National People's Congress,Premier Zhu Rongji stressed the need to increase farmers' incomes, and the Chinese Government has wasted no time in strengthening its measures to reduce the burden on farmers and lead them out of their current difficulties.1.The main idea of the first paragraph is that ___________ .A.American oranges are popular in ChinaB.The storage capacity of Henan province is larger than any other provincesC.Chinese agriculture is greatly affected by the entry into the WTOD.Chinese government should pay more attention to agriculture science2.Which of the following statements is true ___________ ?A.China's 900 million farmers will have no chance to earn a living.B.Farmers’ lives will be richer than before because they plant foreign fruit.C.If farmers have a higher standard of farming science, they will not be afraid of facing new challenges.D.The WTO will be in charge of China's agriculture.3.Which of the following places is not mentioned?___________.A.Beijing B.Shandong C.Henan D.Yantai4.What's the attitude of the author to China's entering the WTO?A.Neutral B.Positive C.Negative D.Nervous5.What do you think is the effect of the operation of“yellow box”and“green box”policies in China?A.They are helpful to farmers.B.They are helpless to farmers.C.They have nothing to do with agriculture science.D.The author doesn't mention it.6.The best title of the text is ___________ .A.Chinese Agriculture ScienceB.The WTO will bring in profits to ChinaC.China entering the WTO is a wrong stepD.The WTO and the Chinese Agriculture4. 短文改错Susan is seventeen year old,and she is very busy. She never 1.___________has enough time for that she wants to do.Like many other girls 2.___________about her age,she spends hours on the telephone talks to her 3.___________friends.She often goes out on the weekends, and she looks after 4.___________children for other families to get some money. But,of course, 5.___________during the schoolyears she herself has a lot homework to do. 6.___________During the football season,Susan is more busier than usual. She 7.___________and others pretty girls are cheer leaders. They jump up and down 8.___________together,cheering when the team has played well. When the team 9.___________is not playing so well, the girls try their best encourage the players. 10.___________The cheers are usually not long, but it takes a long time to practise shouting together.5. 书面表达五月四日,高三年级一班和二班之间将进行一次有关环保问题的演讲比赛(a talk show on environment protection),高一英语New Zealand 习题精选,英语试题《高一英语 New Zealand 习题精选》。

Parents surrounded the playground, offering encouragement. With less than ten seconds remaining, the ball suddenly rolled in front of my son’s teammate, Mickey O’Donnel. With shouts of “Kick it!” echoing (回响) across the playground, Mickey turned around and gave it everything he had. All around me the crowd erupted (沸腾). O’Donnel had scored! Then there was silence. They hit one another over the heads with chairs. And so it goes on until one of the men crashes through a window and falls thirty feet to the ground below. He is dead!Of course he isn’t really dead. With any luck he isn’t even hurt. Why? Because the men who fall out of high windows or jump from fast moving trains, who crash cars or even catch fire, are professionals. They do this for a living. These men are called stuntmen. That is to say, they perform tricks. They actually do most of the things you see on the screen. For example, they fall from a high building. However, they do not fall onto hard ground but onto empty cardboard boxes covered with a mattress. Again, when they hit one another with chairs, the chairs are made of soft wood and when they crash through windows, the glass is made of sugar! But although their work depends on tricks of this sort, it also requires a high degree of skill and training. Often a stuntman’s success depends on careful timing. For example, when he is “ blown up”in a battle scene, he has to jump out of the way of the explosion just at the right moment.Naturally stuntmen are well paid for their work, but they lead dangerous lives. They sometimes get seriously injured, and even killed. A Norwegian stuntman, for example, skied over the edge of a cliff a thousand feet high. His parachute (降落伞) failed to open and he was killed. In spite of all the risks, this is no longer a profession for men only. Men no longer dress up as women to perform some dangerous actions. For nowadays there are stunt girls, too.66. What can be inferred from the author’s example of the Norwegian stuntman?A.Sometimes an accident can happen to a stuntman.B.The percentage of serious accidents is high.C.Parachutes must be of good quality.D.The cliff was too high.67. Stuntmen are those who __________________.A.often dress up as actors.B.like to lead dangerous lives.C.often perform seemingly dangerous actions.D.often fight each other for their lives.68. Stuntmen earn their living by ___________________.A.playing their dirty tricks.B.selling their special skills.C.jumping out of high windows.D.jumping from fast moving trains.69. When a stuntman falls from a high building, _____________________.A.he needs little protection.B.he will be covered with a mattress.C.his life is in danger.D.his safety is generally all right.70. Which of the following is the main factor of a successful performance?A. StrengthB. ExactnessC. SpeedD. Carefulness第II卷(共20分)一、根据首字母和中文提示补全单词,使句意完整。

Our Spanish summer program allows ourstudents to learn from highly trained, certified teachers and be absorbed in thelanguage and the culture of Costa Rica.Features include:Intensive(强化的) daily Spanish classes;Extracurricular classes in dance, cooking, music, and handiwork;Outdoor activities including hiking, camping, rafting, and ziplining(高空滑索); Homestay with a local Costa Rican family;V olunteer work in needy neighborhoods. Our Teaching Methods:We are proud to use TPRS---Total Physical Response Storytelling---in ourcurriculum. This innovative method uses strange and amusing stories to teach new vocabulary, increase fluency, and get students involved by giving them the opportunity to alter the details themselves. Because of the silliness, creativity, and repetition involved, TPRS allows students to learn easily and remember information effortlessly.Memorizing vocabulary and listening to lectures on grammar are slow, inefficient ways to learn a new language. The best way to truly learn and commit new material to memory is through conversation. In our Spanish classes, students can expect to speak up to 80% of each class. By speaking in the new language freely and consistently, students can see progress faster because they are using the new grammar and vocabulary that they have learned at the same time. This helps the brain remember the new words and grammar structures for future use, making it much easier to progress.1. What does the program do?A. It offers weekly Spanish classesB. She even labeled(贴标签) everything. I always looked for everything. Over time, Kate got neater and I got messier. She would push my dirty clothing over, and I would lay my books on her tidy desk. We both got tired of each other.War broke out one evening. Kate came into the room. Soon, I heard her screaming, “Take your shoes away! Why under my bed!” Deafened, I saw my shoes flying at me. I jumped to my feet and started yelling. She yelled back louder. The room was filled with anger. We could not have stayed together for a single minute but for a phone call. Kate answered it. From her end of the conversation, I could tell right away her grandma was seriously ill. When she hung up, she quickly crawled(爬) under her covers, crying. Obviously, that was something she should not go through alone. All of a sudden, a warm feeling of sympathy(同情) rose up in my heart.Slowly, I collected the pencils, took back the books, made my bed, cleaned the socks and swept the floor even on her side. I got so into my work that I even didn’t notice Kate had sat up. She was watching, her tears dried. Then, she reached out her hands to grasp mine. I looked up into her eyes. She smiled at me, “Thanks.”Kate and I stayed roommates for the rest of the year. We didn’t always agree, but we learned the key to living together: giving in, cleaning up and holding on.4.What made Kate so angry one evening?A. She couldn’t find her books.B. Japan is on a fast track to “ultra-age” with people aged 65 or above accounting for 28 percent of its total population in 2019;it was 26.7 percent in 2017. On the other hand, the number of births in 2019 fell to its lowest (about 941,000) since records began in 1899.Demand for care services for elderly people has increased. A shrinking (缩小) working population means fewer able-bodied adults are available to look after the elderly. State-provided facilities (设备)for the elderly are not enough, which causes elderly people to turn to private ones but they are expensive. The country will be short of 380,000 of health nurses by 2025. The government has to turn to advanced robots to meet the shortage. A study found that using robots encouraged one third of the people to become more active and independent. Yet there is no robot that can provide the emotional support to the elderly.Japan provides a case study for China, which is also faced with a fast aging population. 17.23 million babies were born in China in 2019, about 630,000 fewer than in 2018. People aged 60 accounted for 17.3 of China’s population in 2019. With a shortage of elderly care facilities and unbalanced supply, China may find it hard to deal with the rapidly increasing number of senior citizens. To meet the challenge, the Chinese government should make policy changes, which Japan is unwilling or unable to do or even consider. China should pay attention to the signals its aging population is sending and take proper and timely action.8. What do we learn about the old Japanese?A. More and more old Japanese prefer to live on their own.B. A lot of old Japanese have to continue working at old age.C. Some old Japanese remain active with the help of robots.D. They are affordable.D. They are fashionable.10. What do the Japanese do to deal with the shortage of health nurses?A. They hire foreign health nurses.B. They employ advanced robots.C. They set up more nursing schools.D. They train the elderly to tend themselves.11. What is the main idea of the last two paragraph?A. Japan has to take action to deal with the aging population.B. Robots can’t provide emotional support to the elderly.C. China is now faced with a fast aging population.D. Japan’s aging popu lation issue is a timely lesson for China.DThe alarm sounds. People call these strange objects Unidentified Flying Objects(UFOs). These UFOs caused a lot of interest. Some of the reports about them are difficult to believe. Some have been explained in scientific ways. Others have never been explained. Here is an account of UFOs from a report.Dennis Burdens, who wrote an article, tells us that he once saw a UFO himself. He was having dinner one night with a friend near Tripoli, Libya, and after dinner the two men walked across a yard to his room to look at some papers. Burdens noticed that the moon looked strange that night.“It wasn’t the moon,〞 was the reply. They watched the light and saw that it was moving. It seemed to be an object rather like a big plate. In some ways it looked like smoke with a light on it, but it wasn’t smoke because it didn’t change its shape. It was moving in a regular way. That is to say, it didn’t go suddenly faster or more slowly, and it didn’t go higher or lower. So the two men decided that there must be men in it.After that, Burdens said that he felt eyes looking at him. He was being watched in the darkness. When it was nearer, they noticed that the bottom parts were brighter than the top.The bottom was yellow and the top red. But last Thursday, when he came back to the earth after a 21-hour trip to space,Yang Liwei’s smile was seen across the world above the magic words: "China’s first spaceman".The 38-year-old astronaut was sent into space at 9 a.m. last Wednesday by China’s Shenzhou V spacecraft, which went around the earth 14 times. He landed safely at 6:23a.m. the next day, making China the third country to successfully send a person intospace, after the former Soviet Union and the US.Yang was satisfied with his job. "I have seen many landing scenes before on video, and I think ours was one of the most successful," he said on a special plane to Beijing after landing. Born into an ordinary family in Liaoning Province,he became a pilot in the Chinese Air Force in 1987,spending 1,350 hours in the air. He joined the Chinese space programme 11 years later. While in space, Yang recorded everything he saw as well as showing China’s national flag and the United Nations' flag to the people watching on TV at home. He also ate a meal of diced chicken and fried rice, before takinga 3-hour nap. The whole project went according to plan, but space exploration is notas easy as it seems.Anyone who saw the destruction of the US space shuttle〔航天飞机〕Columbia on February this year will know that Yang took a great risk.He experienced extremely (=very) high temperatures, while the gravitational forces (重力) on take-off and landing were strong enough to force tears from his eyes. He has spent five years training to become a spaceman. "I eat all of my meals at the space programme’s dinning room and have never been able to take my son to kindergarten (幼儿园)," he said. "I’ve never met his teachers." But becoming China’s first spaceman has made all the effort worthwhile (值得的). "When I boarded (=got on) the spacecraft for the first time, I couldn’t help feeling excited," he said. "I decided that I had to fly it." To Chinese people, Yang is now a hero. One visitor to a Xinhua news agency online forum (网上论坛) said: "Yang’s trip is a giant leap (宏大的飞跃) forward for China." Officials say the next Shenzhou will be launched by 2021. China also plans to develop space walking and a space lab.64. What is the main idea of the story?A. China’s first manned space flight.B. A hero with great courage.C. The first Chinese man in space.D. How Yang Liwei became China’s first spaceman.65. How long did each of Yang’s orbits take on average?A. 1 hour.B. 1.5 hours.C. 6 hours.D. The story didn’t mention.66. Why did the writer use "giant leap" in the title?A. Because the space flight marked China’s great progress in the field of spaceexploration.B. Because Yang said it was a "giant leap" for mankind when he was in Shen Zhou VC. Because the space flight was a huge success.D .Both A and BEWhen you are feeling unhappy or forget how great you are, these are six ways to make you feel good about yourself.1) Look in the mirror and say to yourself, "I am a special person and there's no one in the world like me. To the Egyptians, green is a color that represents the hope and joy of spring, while for Muslims, it means heaven. Red is a symbol of good luck in many cultures. In China, children are given money in a red envelope to bring good fortune in the New Year. For many nations, blue is a symbol of protection and religious beliefs. Greek people often wear a blue necklace hoping to protect themselves against evils.People’s choice of colors is also influenced by their bodies’ reactions (反应) toward them. Green is said to be the most restful color. It has the ability to reduce pain and relax people both mentally and physically. People who work in green environment have been found to have fewer stomachaches.Red can cause a person’s blood pressure to rise and increase people’s appetites (食欲). Many decorators will include different shades of red in the restaurant. Similarly, many commercial websites will have a red “Buy Now” button because red is a color that easily catches a person’s eye.Blue is another calming color. Unlike red, blue can cause people to lose appetite. So if you want to eat less, some people suggest that eating from blue plates can help. The next time you are deciding on what to wear or what color to decorate your room, think about the color carefully.4. Which of the following would be the most proper title for the text?A. Colors and Human BeingsB. The Cultural Meaning of ColorC. Colors and Personal ExperiencesD. The Meaning and Function of ColorCNowadays, social media like Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat and Twitter are becoming more and more popular. People have completely made social media part of their daily lives. As a result, many people have developed an Internet personality. The Internet personality I am talking about is the one we shape on our social media sites. We are always posting information about ourselves for other people to know even when it can be completely untrue. Some people even go so far as to spend money in buying flowers or “likes” or buying a very expensive camera for their friends to take photos of them. I find it unbelievable. The time and energy spent on these silly things can only make us want to be accepted by more people.Social media are also a modern cause of depression: People see the perfect lives of others and consider their own imperfect lives as bad. Even kids deal with this. They don’t realize that the reason why they struggle to love themselves is that they spend all day receiving untrue information.I find that many people spend more time and energy in making sure that their online personality is worth accepting rather than caring for their real presence. So many times I have seen confident and beautiful girls on social media. But in the real world, they are extremely shy. They hardly talk to anyone and spend all their time using the phone.Social media have gone so far as to even negatively affect marriages. This is because of the fact that there are now “Instagram husbands”—people whose use is to take perfect photos of their partners throughout the day. They spend a lot of time doing that whether they like it or not. Needless to say, social media likely influence relationships in a negative way.I think everyone should stop using social media at least for a few months to experience the difference it makes to them. They may find life is very different and much better.7. What does “the Internet personality” in the passage refer to?A. The hope to develop a better personality.B. The personality developed through social media.C. The true personality shown by us on social media.D. The information we get about others on social media.8. Why are social media a modern cause of depression?A. We may read some upsetting news.B. We have to try very hard to be accepted.C. We can’t really find much useful information.D. We feel sad about ourselves through comparing.9. What does the example given in Paragraph 4 show?A. Shy people can also become confident.B. Social media make people become more energetic.C. Social media make people ignore their true presence.D. People today don’t consider their presence important.10. What’s most probably the author’s attitude towards people’s using social media?A. Uninterested.B. Negative.C. Uncertain.D. Supportive.二、(共5小题;每小题2分,满分10分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。

高一英语必修二 Unit 1单元综合测试卷(含答案)
高一英语必修二 Unit 1单元综合测试卷(含答案)第一部分阅读理解(共两节,满分50分)第一节(共15小题;每小题2.5分,满分37.5分)阅读下列短文,从每题所给的A、B、C和D四个选项中选出最佳选项。
AOpera and cinema have much in common: as a matter of fact, they use music, theater, dance and other art forms at once. Cross-referencing and inspiration for each other have led to several interesting experiments.Cinema, connected with opera, is very attractive for a long time. Opera has been used both as a setting and as a subject for cinema. From comic films to action films, opera scenes appear in a variety of genres(体裁). Whatever the film, scenes set in or around the opera tend to represent the most exciting moment in the plot.Cinema is also capable of mixing the visual elements of the opera: cameras can catch facial expressions from close or far, special visual effects can be added digitally, and montage (蒙太奇) can change the meaning of a scene. Far from replacing the operatic experience, opera-based films provide a different, complementary take on operas: they become a genre of its own, whic h has been called the “opera-film”. Adaptation of films into operas is quite a new development of the operatic world. It is, however, a quickly growing genre: more and more film-based operas are being produced. In the same way popular novels were chosen in the 19th century as plots for operas, nowadays composers turn to popular or relevant screenplays to attract the audience. In the future, cinema and opera are highly likely to become more and more closely connected. While opera is fighting for relevance in the 21st century with new music produced, and cinema is slowly losing its leading role to high-quality on-demand TV, the two media can work together to give rise to new forms of art, combining their advantages to create something that can become larger than the sum of their parts.1. What can be learned about opera-based films?A. It represents a new genre of films.B. It focuses on visual experiences.C. It has unique settings and subjects.D. It appears in a variety of genres.2. What can be inferred about cinema and opera from the last paragraph?A. The two should develop their own advantages in their ways.B. The two should cooperate to make something new and bigger.C. Cinema should take the lead in producing high-quality products.D. Opera should work harder to become a new way of art in the 21st century.3. What is the text mainly about?A. The replacement of opera by cinema.B. The advantages of cinema over opera.C. The interaction between cinema and opera.D. The similarities between cinema and opera.BIf there is one thing I’m sure about,it is that in a hundred years from now we will still be reading newspapers. It is not that newspapers are a necessity.Even now some people get most of their news from television or radio. Many buy a paper only on Saturday or Sunday. But for most people reading a newspaper has become a habit passed down from generation to generation. The nature of what is news may change. What basically makes news is what affects our lives—the big political stories, the coverage of the wars, earthquakes and other disasters will continue much the same.I think there will be more coverage of scientific research, though. It’s already happening in areas that many directly affect our lives, like genetic (基因的) engineering. In the future,I think there will be more coverage of scientific explanations of why we feel as we do—as we develop a better understanding of how the brain operates and what our feelings really are. It’s quite possible that in the next century newspapers will be transmitted (传送) e lectronically from Fleet Street and printed out in our own home.In fact,I’m pretty sure that how it will happen in the future. You will probably be able to choose from a menu, making up your own newspapers by picking out the things you want to read—sports and international news, etc.I think people have got it wrong when they talk about competition between the different media (媒体).They actually feed off each other. Some people once foresaw that television would kill off newspapers, but that hasn’t happened. What is read on the printed page lasts longer than pictures on a screen or sound lost in the air.And as for the Internet,it’s never really pleasant to read something just on a screen.4.What will probably be in the newspaper made by yourself?A.Sports and international news.B.A menu of important news.C.The most important news.D.What you are interested in.5.From the passage,we can infer .A.newspapers will win the competition among different mediaB.newspapers will stay with us together with other mediaC.television will take the place of newspapersD.the writer believes some media will die out6.The underlined phrase “feed off” in the last paragraph means “”.A.depend onpete withC.fight withD.kill off7.What is the best title for the passage?A.The Best Way to Get NewsB.The Changes of MediaC.Make Your Own NewspapersD.The Future of NewspapersCI have three kids and a great husband and I'm enjoying a career that I find challenging and fun. To the outside world, this feels li ke “success”. But there is still a voice in my heart asking if this is who I truly am. Only in silence do I hear the self and wonder who that person might be.So I booked a trip to find out. I travelled, for the first time, without my husband or kids. I went to Iceland with a friend, who shares an appreciation for wilderness and silence. For six days, we were immersed(沉浸) in wild, raw scenery and real weather—all kinds of weather. Climbing a mountain against rain and returning to a tent for a simple meal reminds you how little you actually need. And how strong it feels to be uncomfortable sometimes.I found silence in Iceland, and time to consider the me outside of career and the me outside of kids as I shared stories with strangers. When I stopped talking and just listened, I became more generous. I learned that choosing to be generous can create more space, more food and more warmth. But I didn't really gain any better appreciation of what I want from life or my job.I suspect the anxiety that drove me to seek silence in Iceland was losing sight of myability to choose gratitude and joy, and to be present in the challenges I set in my career and my family.I came home to noise, rush and love;with no less confusion on who I want to be. I know the answer isn't waiting out there on the top of a mountain in Iceland. Meanwhile, Hollywood is also eyeing the Chinese market, with offerings including Universal’s action film Fast and Furious 9. However, they should realize that after the deadly pandemic, Chinese audiences have more interest in movies that tell a good Chinese story.James Cameron’s documentary The Six and Marvel’s superhero film Black Widow are scheduled to be released on April 16 and July 9 respectively, and DC comics has produced a new superhero, Monkey Prince, based on the Chinese legendary Money King. Obviously, Hollywood is hoping to earn big in the world’s largest film market. But looking back to the Hollywood blockbusters in 2020, their box office performance in China was a big disappointment. According to China’s ticketingplatform Maoyan, Disney’s Mulan, DC’s Wonder Woman 1984 and Warner Bros’ Tenet earned 278 million yuan ($42 million), 167 million yuan and 456 million yuan, respectively.Meanwhile, homegrown Chinese films are getting more popular, which can be seen from the box office during China’s Lunar New Year holiday in 2021 and the Qingming Festival. Chinese feature film Sister, which deals with sister-brother relationships, quickly defeated Godzilla vs. Kong during China’s Qingming Festival holiday. Many observers said that Chinese audiences want to watch films that tell a good Chinese story, and the tear-jerking comedy Hi, Mom is a perfect example. The film tells a warm story of a mother-daughter relationship and has grossed 5.397 million yuan as of Thursday, according to Maoyan.Maybe it is because of the COVID-19 epidemic that Chinese people are turning their eyes more toward their own stories. If Hollywood still cannot really know and respect Chinese culture and just randomly mixes some Chinese elements into their films, it will lose a large amount of its fans in China.12.What does the underlined expression in the second paragraph refer to?A.The Maoyan film market B.The US film marketC.The Hollywood film market D.The Chinese film market13.What did Chinese audiences think of the Hollywood blockbusters released in 2020 in China?A.The films earned big money in the box office.B.The films failed to meet the Chinese audiences’ expectation.C.The films defeated these homegrown films in China.D.The films were criticized for mixing Chinese elements into their films. 14.Why is the film Hi, Mom seen as a good example of successful films nowadays?A.It is about a story that makes you laugh and cry at the same time.B.It is about a warm story between a mother and a daughter.C.It satisfies many people’s intere st in a film to tell a good Chinese story.D.It mixes many Chinese family elements into the film successfully.15.How can Hollywood make a change to keep its fans in China?A.Try to base its story on Chinese legendary.B.Mix many Chinese elements into their films.C.Know and show respect for Chinese culture.D.Make the films to solve the mother-daughter relationships.第二节(共5小题;每小题2.5分,满分12.5分)根据短文内容,从短文后的选项中选出能填入空白处的最佳选项。

When the ancient Games of the Olympiad were born, wrestling was already an ancient game. Widely recognized as the world’s oldest competitive sport, wrestling appeared in a series of Egyptian wall paintings as early as 5,000 years ago. When the ancient Olympic Games began in 776 BC, more than two thousand years later , it included wrestling and in the years that followed, wrestling featured as the main event. The sport would return in a similar role when the Olympic Games returned after a 1,500-year absence in 1896. Organizers, seeking direct links to ancient times, found wrestling was very popular across much of the ancient world, fromGreece, Assyria and Babylon to India, China and Japan. Greco-Roman wrestling, a style which was believed to be passed down from the Greek and Roman wrestlers of old was brought back into use. In Greco-Roman wrestling, the wrestlers used only their arms and upper bodies to attack. They could hold only those same parts of their opponents (对手). It worked nicely from a historical attitude, but another cheerful and relaxing style was sweeping across Great Britain and the United States by then. Known as “catch as catch can”, it had become popular at fairs and festivals in both countries. In 1904, the Olympic Games added the second wrestling event and called it Now, “freestyle”. Little Annie Sullivan would attack anyone who came near sometimes. However , an elderly nurse believed there was hope and she offered to help the child. Every day she made all her efforts to give little Annie words of love and encouragement. At last, doctors noticed a change in the girl. Then the day finally came when this seemingly “hopeless” child was released.Anne Sullivan grew into a young woman with a desire to help others as she, herself, was helped by the kind nurse. It was she who saw hope in Helen Keller . She loved her , , played with her until the flickering candle became a bright light to the world. Anne Sullivan brought wonders into Helen’s life. But without that kind and warm-hearted nurse, how could little Annie become such a kind-hearted teacher? And so it goes. Just how far back does the chain of love extend? Some doctors now think that the internal fat surrounding important organs like the heart or liver (肝脏) could be as dangerous as the external fat which can be noticed more easily.“Being thin doesn’t surely mean you’re not fat,” said Dr Jimmy Bell at Imperial College. Since 1994, Bell and his team have scanned nearly 800 people with MRI machines to create “fat maps” showing where people store fat. According to the result, people who keep their weight through diet rather than exercise are likely to have major deposits (储存) of internal fat, even if they are slim. Even people with normal Body Mass Index scores can have surprising levels of fat deposits inside. Of the women, as many as 45 percent of those with normal BMI scores (20 to 25) actually had too high levels of internal fat. Among men,the percentage was nearly 60 percent. According to Bell, people who are fat on the inside are actually on the edge of being fat. They eat too many fatty and sugary foods, but they are not eating enough to be fat. Scientists believe we naturally store fat around the belly first, but at some point, the body may start storing it elsewhere. Doctors are unsure about the exact dangers of internal fat, but some think it has something to do with heart disease and diabetes. They want to prove that internal fat damages the body’s communication systems. The good news is that internal fat can be easily burned off through exercise or even by improving your diet. “If you want to be healthy, there is no short cut. Exercise has to be an important part of your lifestyl e,” Bell said. 68. What is this piece of news mainly about? A. Thin people may be fat inside. B. Internal fat is of no importance. C. ADictionaries are not closed books. There is still plenty of room for more words in these great vocabulary authorities. New words are continually being created and added to our language. And many of today’s word experts can credit a famous mathematician with the creation of the method by which they develop many new words. The mathematician was an Englishman named Charles L. Dodgson. In addition to working with figures, Dodgson wrote books. His imaginative stories and poems have made Dodgson beloved to generations of readers. We know him, however, not by the name of Dodgson but by his pen name, Lewis Carroll.Lewis Carroll has delighted countless readers, young and old, with Alice in Wonderland, Through the Looking Glass, and numerous poems. In these works, Carroll developed dozens of nonsensical words such as “chortle” and “galumph”. Many of these words are combined naturally with more common words in the English language. Carroll referred to his made-upwords as “portmanteau” words, named after a kind of leather suitcase that opens into two compartments. The name was well suited, because most of Carroll’s words had two compartments. Rather than being entirely fabricated (虚构), they were usually made from the combined parts of two diffe rent words. A “snark”, for example, clearly came from a snake and a shark.Although Carroll died long ago, his technique continues to be used today. We clearly see his influence in such words as smog, brunch, and guesstimate.21. What does the underlined sentence probably mean according to the passage?A. Dictionaries are open to the public.B. Call his friends.CThe next time you go grocery shopping, try speaking to other customers. One summer day, I took a smile and a warm heart into a small store in Oregon and got far more than groceries. I love fresh produce (农产品) in the store, and not just for the amazing colors provided by summer’s bounty (慷慨) or the chance to joy over new choices from other countri es. It’s also because I just love watching people pick their produce. The day I was there I found a sale on amazing cherry tomatoes—along with a woman in her late 70s. Despite the fact that we were strangers, we began to discuss apples. She noted a proble m with the Pink Ladies. “They tasted like I was eating an unripe green apple from the tree,” she said, twisting her face as if still tasting the sour apple. I wondered if th is is something most of my generation can even remember doing. I surely do. I mentioned that I often could not resist the green yet tempting fruit swinging from an apple tree. This was the start for a series of discussions as we shopped—covering such topics as nutrition, new foods and the quality of produce. By this time a third woman had joined in our conversation. The three of us continued along, unexpected friends, chatting about family size and the troubles a mom might have serving healthful foods that please the whole family. Eventually we all went our separate ways, but in the dairy (奶制品) section I heard a small voice say, “I finally caught up with you.” It was the firstwoman I’d talked to, extending a bag of apricots (杏) to me. “I don’t know if your family will eat these,” she added, “but they have a super deal on them.” Again I was brought back to my childhood, when I also ate apricots straight from the tree. My mouth watered at the remembered flavor. The old lady didn’t realize that she’d given me far more than produce. With that offering came a sens e of community, a flashback to days when it was OK to talk to a stranger. She brought back memories of summer fruits right from the tree—and a feeling that somehow those apricots were a thank-you for sharing my time with her in a very unlikely place.28. One reason the author likes fresh produce in grocery shop is that ________.A. she enjoys observing people selecting fresh produceB. she likes watching people tasting fresh produceC. she produces fresh produce herselfD. she sells fresh produce herself29. What might be the problem with the Pink Ladies noted by the old lady?A. Their price was too high.B. Their color was too green.C. Their taste was too sour .D. Their size was too small.30. Why did the old lady bring a bag of apricots to the author?A. She found the apricots were on sale in the shop.B. She learned that the author wanted to buy apricots.C. She wanted to send the apricots as a gift to the author.D. She knew that the author’s family liked eating apricots.31. According to the author, what is the extra value of grocery shopping?A. It adds flavor and color to her boring daily life.B. It helps her to see the importance of family life.C. It gives her a chance to learn about nutrition knowledge.D. It brings her unexpected friendship and sweet memories.DAnger often makes us uncomfortable. When you find your anger too uncomfortable to process, please let it go. But remember to create a healthy anger in your children is to practice creating a healthy anger in yourself. Once you’re better at exper iencing anger and expressing it in a healthy way, you’ll be able to model a good style of anger for your kids. Some kids deal with anger by c reating a “false self”: a child who is perfect for their parents. People who have developed a false self are ofte n passive aggressive andseem shallow because they’ve hid away all the feelings with depth and character. How do we keep kids from creating false selves? We need to raise them in an environment where it’s safe to express feelings. Once you feel more comf ortable with your own anger, you can teach your children why anger is a helpful emotion. When your kid expresses anger, help them examine what it is that has made them angry. Why did it make them angry? How did it do that? Then, you can teach them that while emotions are never wrong and are always valid, our expressions of our emotions are within our control. People who are afraid of their own anger will never learn how to listen to what their anger is trying to tell them. Instead of teaching our kids tha t their anger is wrong, that “happy families” are never angry, or that all feelings of anger lead to violence and fear, we can teach our children that anger is OK. Anger is natural, it is normal, and it can be experienced and expressed in a healthy way.32. What is the main idea of the first paragraph? A. Anger makes us uncomfortable. B. Anger is difficult to deal with.C. Parents often lose their temper at home.D. Parents should model a good anger style.33. What would a child be like if he devel oped a “false self”?A. Polite and optimistic.B. Perfect and helpful.C. Negative and indirect.D. Rude and dishonest.34. What’s the main purpose of the last 2 paragraphs?A. To give tips to create healthier anger.B. To suggest ways to avoid anger.C. To show the harm anger does to kids.D. To stress the importance of expressing anger.35. In which part of a website can we read the passage?A. Food& RecipesB.
