Paragraph 3: If true, though, why did cold-blooded animals such as snakes, lizards, turtles, and crocodiles survive the freezing winters and torrid summers? These animals are at the mercy of the climate to maintain a livable body temperature. It’s hard to understand why they would not be affected, whereas dinosaurs were left too crippled to cope, especially if, as some scientists believe, dinosaurs were warm-blooded. Critics also point out that the shallow seaways had retreated from and advanced on the continents numerous times during the Mesozoic, so why did the dinosaurs survive the climatic changes associated with the earlier fluctuations but not with this one? Although initially appealing, the hypothesis of a simple climatic change related to sea levels is insufficient to explain all the data. Why does the author mention the survival of “snakes, lizards, turtles, and crocodiles” in paragraph 3? A. To argue that dinosaurs may have become extinct because they were not cold-blooded animals B. To question the adequacy of the hypothesis that climatic change related to sea levels caused the extinction of the dinosaurs C. To present examples of animals that could maintain a livable body temperature more easily than dinosaurs D. To support a hypothesis that these animals were not as sensitive to climate changes in the Cretaceous period as they are today
因果关系因:because, because of, for, as, since, in that, on account of, with果:so, so that, therefore, thereby, as a result, hence, thus, consequently, accordingly因果关系除了传统意义上的显性因果表达词外,隐性的因果同样是不可忽略的一个重要部分。
隐性因果:A 导致(因-果):cause, reason, lead to, give rise to, result in, render, make, let, ask, support, push, stimulate, spark, spur, fuel, produce, be responsible for如:The increased pressures of expanding populations have led to the removal of woody plants so that many cities and towns are surrounded by large areas completely lacking in trees and shrubs。
而来(果-因):result from, derive from, originate from, initiate from, stem from, be responsive to, be attributable to 如:“The extreme seriousness of desertification results from the vast areas of land and tremendous numbers of people affected, as well as from the great difficulty of reversing or even slowing the process。

Psychological researchers generally recognize that facial expressions reflect emotional states. In fact, various emotional states give rise to certain patterns of electrical activity in the facial muscles and in the brain. The facial-feedback hypothesis argues, however, that the causal relationship between emotions and facial expressions can also work in the opposite direction. According to this hypothesis, signals from the facial muscles (“feedback”) are sent back to emotion centers of the brain, and so a person’s facial expression can influence that person’s emotional state. Consider Darwin’s words: “The free expression by outward signs of an emotion intensifies it. On the other hand, the repression, as far as possible, of all outward signs softens our emotions.” Can smiling give rise to feelings of good will, for example, and frowning to anger?

因果关系因:because,because of,for,as,since,in that,on account of,with果:so,so that,therefore,thereby,as a result,hence,thus,coequently,accordingly因果关系除了传统意义上的显性因果表达词外,隐性的因果同样是不可忽略的一个重要部分。
隐性因果:A 导致(因-果):cause,reason,lead to,give rise to,result in,render, make, let, ask, push, stimulate, ark,ur,fuel, produce,be reoible for如:The increased presures of expanding population have led to the removal of woody plants so that many cities and tow are surrounded by large areas completely lacking in trees.
1】Paragraph1:Groundwater is the word used to describe water that saturates the ground, filling all the available spaces.By far the most abundant type of groundwater is meteoric water;this is the groundwater that circulates as part of the water cycle. Ordinary meteoric water is water that has soaked into the ground from the surface, from precipitation(rain and snow)and from lakes and streams. There it remains, sometimes for long periods, before emerging at the surface again. At first thought it seems incredible that there can be enough space in the―solid‖ground underfoot toehold all this water.1.Which of the following can be inferred from paragraph1about the ground that we walk on?○It cannot hold rainwater for long periods of time.○It prevents most groundwater from circulating.○It has the capacity to store large amounts of water.○It absorbs most of the water it contains from rivers.

Both the number and the percentage of people in the United States involved in nonagricultural pursuits expanded rapidly during the half century following the civil war, with some of the most dramatic increases occurring in the domains of transportation, manufacturing, and trade and distribution. What can be inferred from the passage about the agricultural sector of the economy after the Civil War?(A) New technological developments had little effect on farmers.(B) The percentage of the total population working in agriculture declined.(C) Many farms destroyed in the war were rebuilt after the war.(D) Farmers achieved new prosperity because of better rural transportation.
Environmental protection has become an increasingly urgent issue in modern society. The negative impact of human activities on the environment has caused widespread concern. This article aims to explore the causes of environmental degradation and propose possible solutions to address this issue."
The primary cause of climate change is the increase in greenhouse gas emissions, mainly from human activities such as burning fossil fuels. These emissions trap heat in the atmosphere, leading to a rise in global temperatures. Additionally, deforestation has also contributed to climate change by reducing the Earth's capacity to absorb carbon dioxide."

A. To argue that dinosaurs may have become extinct because they were not cold-blooded animals
C. What was the effect of the surprising observation scientists made?
D. Why did scientists want more information about the dinosaur extinctions at the end of the Cretaceous?
Example 1
Read the following paragraph to answer the question.

How do you read a paragraph?
Do you read the paragraph again and again when it is hard to understand or when it is hard to find the answer to the question?
Dissatisfaction with conventional explanations for dinosaur extinctions led to a surprising observation that, in turn, has suggested a new hypothesis. Many plants and animals disappear abruptly from the fossil record as one moves from layers of rock documenting the end of the Cretaceous up into rocks representing the beginning of the Cenozoic (the era after the Mesozoic). Between the last layer of Cretaceous rock and the first layer of Cenozoic rock, there is often a thin layer of clay. Scientists felt that they could get an idea of how long the extinctions took by determining how long it took to deposit this one centimeter of clay and they thought they could determine the time it took to deposit the clay by determining the amount of the element iridium (lr) it contained.

B. To question the adequacy of the hypothesis that climatic change related to sea levels caused the extinction of the dinosaurs
C. To present examples of animals that could maintain a livable body temperature more easily than dinosaurs
