大学英语(四)听说unit 4讲稿
In social life, time plays a very important part. In theU.S.guests tend to feel they are highly regarded if the invitation to a dinner party is extended three or four days before the party date. But it is bot true in other countries. In some countries it may be considered foolish to make an appointment too far in advance because plans that are made for a date more than a week away tend to be forgotten. The meaning of time differs in different parts of the world. Thus, misunderstanding arises between people from different countries that treat time differently. Imagine you have arranged a meeting at 4 o’clock. What time should you expect your foreign business colleagues to arrive? If they’re German, they’ll be band on time. If they’re American they’ll probably be 15 minutes early. If they’re British, they’ll be 15 minutes late, and you should allow up to an hour for the Italians

(B)Part FourShort PassageThe arrangement of classroom space is important to interaction. Most of us have noticed the importance of the arrangement to efficiency and comfort in our work. College classroom space should be designed to encourage the activity of critical thinking.Desks in any college classrooms are normally in straight rows, so students can clearly see the teacher instead of their classmates. E verything important obviously comes from the teacher. But actually, the teacher can correct this situation and create space that encourages i nteraction among students. The goal should be for everyone to be able to see everyone else.Arrangement of the classroom should also make it easy to divide students into small groups for discussion or problem-solving exercises. Besides, the fixed seats are also helpful for a teacher to remember students’names and faces. Small classes with movable desks and tables present no problem. Even in large lecture halls, it is possible for students to turn around and form groups of four to six. Breaking a class into small groups provides more opportunities for students to interact with each other and see other students’ thinking processes in developing new modes of critical thinking. Questions:1.What is the primary purpose of desk arrangement? (A)2.Why are desks in college classrooms normally placed in straight way? (C)3.Which of the following does not result form classroom arrangement? (A)4.How is the new arrangement beneficial for a teacher? (B)5.How could students easily form small groups in lecture halls? Disney, the Best Service Provider
Millions of people pass through the gates of Disney’s entertainment parks in California, Florida and Japan each year. What makes these places an almost universal attraction? Well, one reason is the way visitors are treated once they get there. 1.The people at Disney try their best to serve their “guests”, and to see that they enjoy themselves. 2. All new employees, from vice presidents to part-time workers, begin their employment by attending Disney University. Here, they learn about the company’s history, how it is managed, and why it is successful. All employees are shown how their part is important in making the park a success. After that, the employees go on to do more specialized training for their specific jobs. No detail is missed. A simple job like taking tickets requires four eight-hour days of training. Even Disney’s managers get involved in the daily management of the park. Every year, the mangers leave their desks and business suits and put on special service clothes. They take up any of the 100 jobs that make the entertainment park come alive. 3.The managers agree that this week help them to see the company’s goals more clearly. All these efforts to serve the public well have made Walt Disney Productions famous. Disney is considered by many as the best mass service provider in America or the world.

I’ve been talking to personnel as well as our staff at the factory. W: And what’s the picture? M: 10.We’ll probably have to hire a couple of engineers to help us modernize the factory. W: What about advertising? M: Marketing has some interesting ideas for television commercials. W: TV? Isn’t that a bit too expensive for us? What’s wrong with advertising in the papers, as usual? M: 11.Quite frankly, it’s just not enough anymore. We need to be more aggressive in order to keep ahead of our competitors. These investments will result in higher profits for our company. W: We’ll have to look at the figures more closely. Have finance draw up a budget for these investments. M: All right. I’ll see to it.
